Highly recommended! With all the sudden rain, a very tall chinaberry tree fell on the roof of a home that I'm currently leasing. Luckily there was no damage. I appreciated that a well-managed, well-mannered team showed up on time, worked efficiently and did little to disturb anything. I stayed at home to ensure that our rather protective Lab wouldn't go crazy but after the initial excitement of a door bell ring, he just went back to bed. Within 90 minutes, they removed one very large tree from a precarious location and trimmed some rather large branches off other trees that were near the roofline. I suspect other companies would try to upsell taking care of the other trees (or merely wait until it became a problem in the hopes of repeat business. Amazingly, not one branch was left on the property and the roof was spotless when they left. I can't review the pricepoint because the property owner took care of this. I will say this - service-wise, The Tree Man will not disappoint. read more

I have a large Cottonwood in my backyard that was starting to touch my neighbor's roof and needed a trim. The Tree Man did a fantastic job. The crew was in and out in under an hour leaving the tree exactly how I wanted it and no trace that they'd been here in the yard. Jason came out for a consultation and was very helpful in identifying the trees, potential issues I should look for in the future, and what should be done now. I got a quote from another company that claimed to "beat any competitor's price" and it was DOUBLE the price that The Tree Man quoted me. I see a lot of good reviews, but when Jason came out to look at our back yard, he didn't seem interested in our issues (leaning hackberry I was concerned about and another tree pushing over our fence) but instead only wanted to trim some small limbs over our roof for $200 or a full canopy trim for $1000+. He left leaving me feeling rather perplexed over what the issue was. I received a follow up email after I rejected the estimate and pointed out what our real issues were, to which he apologized but yet again didn't give me an estimate on the work. He could of just said he wasn't interested, but I found it all odd. read more

Jason is like The Lorax from Dr. Seuss; he speaks for the trees. I was pretty sure my pecan tree was toast and was mainly hoping to protect my house from the falling branches. Not only was Jason able to trim off the dead stuff, he also was able to trim it well enough to save the tree. He was honest with me about the remaining life expectancy of the tree (5-7 years). He also suggested that this is a good time to plant a new one beneath it so that it can grow under the shade of the older one until it needs to come down. I've been living in Austin for a while, and my wife and I recently bought a house. It has nice, established trees (woohoo), but they needed trimming. I can work with this - I have a dinky electric polesaw (small chainsaw on a pole) and I like climbing trees... I trimmed some of the lower dead branches, but there were still a lot there. I also noticed that a couple of my elms had mistletoe, and I want them to be around for a while. After a lazy afternoon spent in various precarious situations with a bunch of tiny spinning blades on the end of a stick at the top of a ladder and clinging to branches, I started to think about the torque the pole was exerting on me and the ladder, and then about falling off the ladder or out of the tree with the saw. I do some bouldering so I considered getting ropes and a harness myself, but I'm rather attached to being alive and out of the hospital at the moment, so the more I thought about it, the more I thought, "This is a really stupid idea." I even looked at renting a hydraulic lift for a day, but it was prohibitively expensive. I decided to call a professional. During the time we had been renting, I had seen several crews of guys that various landlords hired come in and butcher great trees. Am I a treehugger? I'd say, "no," but I do love my trees - call me crazy. At any rate, with some apprehension, I decided to look at some reviews. This was one of the first ones that came up. I like to read negative reviews, because they can be more helpful than positive ones, because, well, stupid people write reviews too. The only negative review was from a guy with a personal vendetta who never even spoke with or had work done by Jason. Hmmm... Anyhow, I called Jason and he actually called back while I was leaving a message. I had already left a message with another guy who came out later during the day, so Jason made sure to come out pretty quickly. He immediately set me at ease with my concerns about hacking my trees up, and then we discussed one of my mistletoe trees and he was super positive about his ability to save the tree in question and leave plenty of branches. After the initial conversation, I was actually excited about getting my trees trimmed. It was readily apparent that Jason knew what he was doing and wasn't just one of those butchers. I called a couple of days later to set an appointment, and he came out first thing in the morning with one of his guys. He was very professional and they cleaned up everything after they were done. My trees look great, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Their bid was below what I expected as well. Jason is a great guy, and you won't regret giving him your business. A few months back my husband contacted Jason and got an estimate for our trees. He didn't like the one I got, so he did his research and really liked what Yelpers had to say about The Tree Man. Since I was out of town, I didn't have much say. All in all, we are happy with the service provided in trimming our trees. It still saddens me greatly that we had to chop down two of them, one of them being the largest in our yard, but we trust what he said needed to be done. That all said, I have a few issues. I arrived home to all this work being done in my yard and was kept up to speed by one of the crewmen and not really Jason. I don't even recall Jason telling me he was done - he just took off. I would've paid him right then and there, but he never gave me the opportunity. I just find that rude. My bigger issue is also tied to payment. We opted to pay via check since we didn't have a paypal set up with that bank account. So, we mailed one in to the address on the invoice. Only to be told days later that "oops, we forgot to update that - we have a new address." Needless to say, the check never arrived after a few weeks of floating thru USPS and then we were forced to do a stop payment on a several thousand dollar check (that cost us $29) and figure out another means of paying. I get it - stuff happens - but I do not feel we should be held responsible for the $29 fee especially when we did everything they asked, they were just not on top of updating their paperwork. Did they ever offer for us to deduct that stop payment fee? No. And my husband is too nice to ever ask. Those few things left a sour taste in my mouth. All in all, do I think Jason did a good job trimming the trees, yes. Are there better people out there? Maybe. Worse? Sure. Would we hire them again .... that's still left up for debate. read more

I went to a couple of garden centers, looking for trees.....and I asked for recommendations for someone to do some tree trimming and planting of a few trees in our yard. The Tree Man, Jason Fincher came highly recommended. I called, and he called me right back. Off to a good start! Our trees were overgrown and really needed some attention. After I described the job, Jason made an appointment to stop by and look at our yard and the trees. Right on time, he came by and gave us an estimate for the work that needed to be done. He listened to what was important to us, he provided suggestions for how to approach the work, and he suggested types of trees to plant for different parts of our yard. Jason loves trees - and it shows in the thoughtful way he approaches his work. Jason scheduled a day to bring his crew to our home and he came in the morning on the day we planned. Jason and his crew trimmed the trees and made them look beautiful! He also ground out a couple of stumps that had previously been left in our yard. He went to two garden centers and picked up the trees i had picked out at each place. He planted the trees in our yard, and left a great layer of mulch around each tree. He even added microbes to the soil around the existing trees for us! When Jason was finished with the work, he picked up everything and left our yard looking clean. In addition to the excellent work that was done, his price was significantly more reasonable than the other two estimates we had gotten before we selected Jason to do the job. Our yard looks great. OK, I am upping my rating to two stars, as I was finally emailed proof of insurance. So he does actually have it apparently. I really had my doubts on that. And since it took 13 days before I received that proof, I needless to say hired someone else who could provide that information more promptly and got the work done. Everything else I stated in my previous review stands. But if you decide to use him, the form I was mailed yesterday said he is covered till March 2016, I believe it was. But if you do get a bid from him, I would suggest requiring a time line for when he will fit you in. Especially if it is a small job. read more

Jason knows trees, and cares about them. He is easy to talk to, and explains what is necessary. I initially called him to trim a relatively young oak tree. He told me for that tree, aeration was higher priority. I end up doing both. He also pointed out that my back yard and front yard have different species of oak trees. Duh, I never even realized that, just always wondered why they shed different leaves ... LOL. He said the oak trees in the back yard are fine and won't need any work right now. Jason made several suggestions about my yard too, which are all much needed Spring cleanup work, I knew, but just don't have time to find the right crew to do it. So I got a quote from him which seems very reasonable. For someone who knows plants, knows how to plant them and how to care for them, and shows up, works together with the crew, his rates are very reasonable. His crew is very good too. It feels like every Spring, I use a different crew to do cleanup. Next Spring, I won't need to look for another crew. I know who to call. read more

Jason is the kind of guy you want around your trees; he knows a lot about trees and will advise you on the best approach, rather than just butchering indiscriminately. We interviewed three tree services to trim back our 80 year old pecans - there were dead limbs hanging over the roof - but we didn't want to trim more than was necessary. Wow! I just can't say enough good things about Jason Fincher and his team. He was friendly, knowledgeable, professional and affordable. We had five trees trimmed, four of which hadn't been touched in years. His rates were fantastic, the work was completed quickly and he insisted that we be happy with the job before providing payment. After walking the yard, we decided to have a few additional limbs trimmed. Again, Jason was more than accommodating of our request. My boss was looking for some tree work done around his yard. I was in contact with Jason for a bit, and he was very flexible with our schedules (and surprisingly not too upset about my lack of availability when it comes to phone calls). He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and very quick to respond. He was able to come out within the week to give us a free estimate, then had the work done shortly thereafter. He gave a very reasonable estimate, and gave very good advice that was in-line with what my boss was looking for. As to the actual services, the trees look fantastic and healthier than they have in a long time. The yard still needs some other landscaping work, but the trees at least look wonderful. Arizona Ash requires special pruning to actually help lengthen its short life span. A lot of tree trimmers "clean up" the inside of the tree instead of trimming the outer edges of the limbs, which is more difficult and dangerous for the workers. Tree Man Jason and his crew did the job right, and quickly too. Jason, the arborist, came with the crew which isn't always the case with tree trimmers. I have a healthier tree with a beautiful shape, too (not easy to achieve with Arizona Ash). The professionalism this crew demonstrated was excellent. Love your trees? Treat them right. It's not cheap, but it's the price of shade in Texas. read more

Am very pleased with Jason (The Tree Man) and his entire hard-working crew. My wife and I recently purchased some land with many cedar and a few oak trees. I was immediately in touch with a nice woman who scheduled for Jason to come out and meet with me for a consult. He did, rather quickly...and was patient enough to handle my many questions and offer great advice on strategic long-term approaches to care for our trees. I scheduled for the trimming to be done, and his crew arrived early on the day he said they would. Great results...took more than one full day since this was so many trees, and they cleaned up entirely. We loved that! We thought a few of these trees might have to be chopped down entirely...since we didn't know that a little pruning could go a long way in the health of the trees. Thankful he didn't just come in and start chopping away! We have scheduled more trimming for our backyard trees as well...and have consulted with him about planting future trees and overall care and maintenance for the yard. I needed trees cleared off my house because we were selling it. Jason was able to give me a quote by just looking at some pictures I e-mailed him. He sent me a quote via e-mail, I accepted it online and he was out in the next couple days to do the work. He invoiced me via e-mail and I sent a check. Easy peasy. Jason came out to my house and gave us a quote for a healthy amount of work including removal, house clearance, fence clearance, and removal of dead wood. He answered all my questions and identified many of the mystery trees I've been curious about since we moved in. He sent a quote (reasonable compared to others I received for the same work) and politely followed up when he hadn't heard from me. Ultimately, we did not choose to hire him for the job instead choosing to allocate those funds to other home projects.
