Here is the quick story: Last Saturday (08-15-2026) I took my 2016 Apple MacBook Pro to Apple Genius Bar for diagnostic and repair, where I was received with utmost courtesy, waited there patiently for 1.5 hours, witnessed my computer given all kinds of diagnostic tactics by the receptionist, who did with all her earnest effort to revive it. Unfortunately I had to leave Genius Bar with the announcement that my MacBook Pro is "beyond repair." Unconvinced, I tried my luck on another store from online search and found The Device Lab, and Austin fixed it! Well, an old computer is an old computer and there is no need for much fuss or excitement about this triviality. But Austin left me with another impression: his sincerity and ability to do what he sets out to do, which is to repair. What can be cooler than a man who delivers his promise by doing what he likes and is good at? I spoke to Austin and found his business philosophy reasonable and truthful: doing what he likes, helping people, figuring out the cause of problem, getting things fixed without having to resort to replacement ( a favorite recommendation from big companies...). Behind this work ethic and principle is another guideline that directs his work: trust from his customers. I like that! O, by the way, there is another reason that urged me to write this review for Austin. He told me he started this company over a year ago, and I see in him what I had to go through back in 2004, when I started having my own tutoring center. I understand how a small business like his lives on word of mouth among customers, as it was with my own company. It took them roughly 3.5 weeks to "repair" my Ipad. However, they didn't even repair my Ipad, they actually gave it back to me in a worse condition saying there was no point in returning it to its original state since they couldn't fix it. I emphasized how I left my Ipad in great condition and it isn't fair that a literal device repair shop returns my personal belonging, damaged. The employee did not offer whatsoever any help to repair my Ipad of the damages they added onto it, and showed absolutely no concern over it either. Might I add, the issue the employee said they couldn't fix is fixable at another location so I have absolutely no idea why this employee thought it was okay completely giving up on my device (on the damages they added). They did offer to fix the screen once it starts working again... with a charge. I asked if it was going to be discounted at least and he said yes but probably not the kind of discounted I am looking for. I definitely wouldnt recommend this location when it comes to Ipad repairs.

They are hard-ish to find, they are in the industrial area in the west end of Camarillo. and you need to call ahead if you have specific parts that you need-because during Covid they closed off their warehouse, so you have to order by items now instead of browsing the aisles. But they are super nice & easy to work with. :)

They don't stock much of anything relating to ICs or transistors, but you'll find a selection of chassis, and hardware items to build up your prototypes. T One downside is that since they have so few walk-in customers, you can't get in to the parts area without waiting for one of the phone support people to break free and walk you over to the parts area. Another down side is that much of their shelf stock is very old. Spray cans of solvent may be half-empty from can leaks, and electrolytic aren't necessary going to be fresh. But with components like fans, relays, transformers, resistors, etc. that won't matter. They also carry hand tools, tool cases, heat-shrink, solder, connectors, adapters, plugs... just a lot of other stuff to create and repair electronic projects. Their pricing is not particularly cheap. The people working there (mostly in cubicles doing phone orders) are very nice.

All that I wanted to do was revive the machine. The repair technician Valerie confirmed my analysis. As the machine had two RAM chips, one 8 GB, the other 4 GB, she suggested that it might be possible to revive the machine if the 4 GB chip was defective. Simply taking it out would leave an 7 GB RAM chip which was sufficient for the machine to run. So she took it out, we rebooted the machine, and to my pleasant surprise it worked. As I plan to buy a new PC immediately, the 8 GB RAM chip will suffice for my needs. Valarie saved me the ~$125 cost of a new 16 GB RAM chip. She refused to accept any payment for her work.
