She has always given be what I ask for and not what she wants! For many years after waxing and threading my face would break out horribly and would would not heal for two weeks. She grabbed a bunch of braiding hair that was not at all the color of my hair so she sent someone to go buy some. They came back with braiding hair that also did not match my hair color. She claimed that once she started braiding it wouldn't be apparent but the braid started to look bulky so I asked her to just braid my real hair, it's long enough. She had a bit of an attitude once I asked her to not use the fake hair. Against my better judgement I let her finish. To top it off she took scissors and start cutting away fly always, from my real hair!! I got home to find that the parts were not even and braids were all different sizes. Please do not bother.

It is where I was introduced to Dazzle Dry (DD), my preferred nail polish system, and where I realized doing my nails can actually be relaxing. I really enjoy their intimate set up (only two nail stations) and the biggest pro for me...no acrylic/chemical smell. They also do hair, facials, waxing, and massages, though I haven't experienced these services. The Dazzle Dry manicure is $30 while the pedicure is a bit more at $65. The service is so meticulous and gentle, it takes a full two hours. Their technique is different than what I have experienced in the neighborhood and their service is consistent. It truly feels like you are getting pampered and my hands and feet look brand new everytime. Sava is such a treat and well worth the price. If you've never tried DD before, it's vegan and said to last two weeks without chipping. This is mostly true, but of course gel (which they recently started to also do!) is king when you are going to be super active and in water. DD is perfect for day to day, and Sava has an extensive collection of colors. The owner, Iwona, is a fantastic technician, as is Monika. Love them both, and catching up with them is always fun during my service. I look forward to continuing to support this lovely business and feel lucky to have them close for my nail care needs. Ps- Call in advance for an appointment, especially during the holidays. They are closed on Wednesdays! Pay in cash and save some coins.

Perfect name for this place as Doris certainly knows her wax!…read moreThis was my first debushery visit since having my now 7 month old so boy was I nervous. But after snagging an amazing deal on lifebooker loot, I figured would give the Waxpertz a try. GREAT experience! Now I don't know about anyone else but I am never THAT comfortable with a stranger milling around down there, no matter how many times I've done it. But Doris had me at ease, so much that we chatted through most of the process (which I generally don't do or enjoy) but she was very easygoing and not OVERLY chatty or aggressive. Excellent bedside manner! And again, she knows her wax! The whole wax was almost pain free. Doris knew what to do it certain areas and was thorough! I have had quite a few brazilians in my day and gone to some the well knowns from J Sisters, and Bliss to Completely Bare. Honestly it's hard to say I have had an amazing experience at any of them considering what is going down... It's a delicate situation.... Waxpertz was a pretty great experience! I knew I was in the hands of a pro who was not just interested in getting as many people in and out the door as possible but was genuinely interested in doing a thorough job and providing great customer service! Those of you who have read some of my past reviews know I have seen the good, bad and just plain weird. All clear! This place is legit and I will definitely be back. Well done Waxpertz, well done!

My coworker and I booked this appointment over a week in advance which was a bad experience to begin w/. To book this I had to call repeatedly, there was no voice mail box or any indication that I was even calling the correct # and I had to email the website to get a reply for an appointment. We arrived for our appointments 5 mins early. My coworkers was at 1, mine at 1:30. At 1:50, the aesthitician came out to say she now didn't have time for my appointment and I'd need to reschedule. My coworker said to absolutely NOT reschedule as she actually stopped the wax midway b/c the aesthetician did not know what she was doing, used multiple types of wax, and didn't know how to finish the waxing. I called to get my money back from the site I booked from, which I was able to do. When I called the salon to let them know I wouldn't be back, the aesthetician gave me EXTREMELY personal details regarding my coworker private areas and told me I had a terrible attitude and she was GLAD I would not be coming back in, then hung up on me. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I KNOW what I have been paying. She insisted always $55. I thought better of her. All she has to say was that she raised her prices. I will not step foot in this establishment again. This woman is a crook, a liar and someone not to be trusted. Shame on her.

I've been to a few salons/studios and nothing felt right. I've been from queens to the UES.. Either their technique, their approach, their "bedside" manner, the products they used.. etc etc just didn't work! I combed through yelp reviews and instagram and came across Essence and was really excited to solidify services with her! I went in for a Brazilian and underarm wax and half way through the waxing I honestly forgot that I was getting waxed! Essence is beyond kind, and makes you feel comfortable immediately (not in that cheesy.. small talk waxer way) but her energy and presence is effortlessly calming, friendly, and I felt like we could talk for hours. If you are looking for someone to wax who is through, gentle, meticulous, and sanitary.. I say book with Essence. She's knowledgeable about products, skin care, has hella skin tips, and you will want to keep talking long after the wax! She's also an educated m black woman who is amazing at her craft!! It was really poorly done. To Marion's credit, she fixed it after I returned an hour later but I still did not get the look I hoped for. So, just as a precautionary suggestion: If you have locs and want them highlighted, go to someone who is a colorist of locs. Marion is very good at other hair styles, but I would not go to her to have my locs colored again. I respect Marion's work in general, but do your research.
