One of my favorite hangout spots in Orlando with some of my favorite bartenders in Orlando (shout out to Shelby and Tate). They have a selection of rotating beers as well as wine, mead, and sangria. Check the chalkboard to see what special flavors of red and white sangria they have on draft (the Apple Pie white is one of my favorites). The vibe is dark and cozy and it's dog-friendly! When I was there, I ordered the Bienvenida a España red sangria and oh boy was it DELICIOUS. This is not your typical watered down sangria with more fruit and juice than wine. I had the opportunity to check this place out last night and boy am I glad I did. I'm not even a huge beer fan and I still loved it. It is tucked away in Ivanhoe Village between Princeton and Virginia. Just a heads up - this place isn't easy to find. It is in between two other businesses and it is easy to just drive by. But believe me when I tell you that it is worth the hunt. They have a pretty good beer selection and from what I've been told they actually have some pretty good craft beer choices. They had a nice sized list of bottled beers along with a draft beer selection that is constantly changing. I tried the Woodchuck Barrel Select and loved it! They do have a short list of wine available if that is your thing. And they have some fancy gourmet sodas that are pretty awesome as well. They don't have food but on some nights they do have a food truck parked out front. So you can totally order from them and bring it to your table. The atmosphere is pretty chill and you can actually have a conversation with the people you go with. No screaming over horrible music played by some DJ hiding in a booth. This was a big plus for me. Love the outdoor patio seating arrangement they have set up complete with candles on the table, actually quite a romantic spot for a quick drink. Sweet little neighborhood pub. Lots of local brews to choose from. Bartender, big Rick, was very helpful. He gave great recommendations. Service was excellent. I wanted to beers, but only wanted to have one beer. He allowed me to have half of each beer. That was perfect. It's a little warm inside, they're not running their air-conditioning low or they don't have any. It looks like there's a cute little patio outside. There is a small parking lot behind, so you don't have to park on the street. They have draft beers and bottled beers and canned beers. So there's something for everyone. The inside decor is really neat. The bar is live edge wood, so beautiful. Casual place to drop by and have a beer or two with friends. I am literally in love with this bar with the only downside being that I don't live close enough! I dragged some friends here after hearing they would be having a ton of Funky Buddha beers, including Last Snow which is a very limited beer (it was sold out within 2 days at all my local servers) that I just so happen to adore. First thing, this bar is hard to find and I drove by it once, missed it a second time, pulled into the clinic next door (got ambushed by two old protesters of said clinic), drove by the parking lot and ended up saying "I'm just going to park on these beautiful streets". The weather was lovely and I was happy to take a small stroll to the bar. The bar had a small porch out back with a disk-golf set, corn-hole and a food truck. We came in the back door and grabbed a seat at the beautiful wood bar. The staff here is relaxed but so nice! They helped us make choices, gave suggestions and talked favorite beers. During this time they were serving beers in plastic cups but I am not sure if they normally do that or if it was just because they were serving limited beers and knew people would be drinking more of a variety than normal. Something's important to me at every bar (and can really be a deal breaker) is their bathroom and this was one of the cleanest I have seen, especially in a small bar like this one. read more

And waiting 10 minutes is kinda annoying, maybe keep the beer settling behind the bar till it's a good pour. You wouldn't serve a nitro Guinness right after you poured it. It takes time. read more

I just realized I still haven't written a review for this place, even though I've been here a bunch of times, especially recently. I would say the Topher is a place that you'll probably find either by word of mouth, or by doing a search for a good craft beer bar. It's not a place that necessarily stands out from the road, and that's what makes it great. I actually first went there on a first date, and as awkward as first dates can be, the Topher helped lessen the blow with its super chill atmosphere and great craft beer. I may not have seen the guy again, but my relationship with the Topher remained. If you're a craft beer drinker, then this is the right spot for you. They have a rotating number of beers on draft, and also some in bottle I believe, along with wine and mead, though personally I only stick to draft beer/cider. The staff is great, and more often than not you'll see one (or both) of the owners working behind the bar. Go ahead and ask them what "Topher" means, they'll give you the actual definition :) In all, this is a great neighborhood bar, with a very chill atmosphere, the kind of place where I feel comfortable going for a beer by myself without feeling judged or having anyone bug me. read more

This is my kind of spot! If I lived in ORL, I'd come here...a lot. It's a little off the beaten path, not too big, not too crowded and they serve up some good beers. Including Funky Buddha (so I had to represent for the home team!) We sat outside and it was a beautiful Orlando night. There was a breeze, it wasn't humid......it wasn't South Florida weather for sure. We grabbed a table and chatted away while sippin' on beers & ciders. There were some interesting folks there and we made some small chit chat with a woman about how to get a dog to release it's grip when it bites down - I won't go into details....it's pretty sick. We also encountered someone who brought a baby in a stroller. Yea...to a bar....I know right? They sat outside and gazed into each others eyes as the baby snoozed away. And there were dogs. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and helped make more room when other ladies arrived. They went into detail about each beer and you could really tell it was their passion. They also had two ciders so that was a very nice addition for myself who is not a beer drinker. They also have wine and sangria. Their beer flight is only $8 and give you 5 samples and they are huge! I wish they had enough to do a cider on tap to do a flight! They also had goldfish to snack on at the tables which I think is key - add that salty snack and you will drink more, don't mind if I do! It was a bit nippy out so we took a large portion of their inside. Next time, I want to hang outside, it's an awesome location. It basically a shed turned into a kick-a beer bar. Fantastic bar with excellent, knowledgeable staff! The decor is warm, dim lit and eclectic making for a very cozy atmosphere for a small group of friends. I've been here hundreds of times and it never gets old, the rotating menu keeps things fresh and assured that there will always be something on tap for your tastes. There's no food served at the Thirsty Topher but often times food trucks will be out back and you're totally able to bring food in. They have a selection of popcorn if you're in the mood for something small and not too heavy. The Thirsty Topher overall is a fantastic craft beer bar and I would consider it an local Orlando staple. I've been to The Thirsty Topher a few times now and consider it the next big craft beer bar (Move over Redlight! Not really, I love you too...). It's location is the first bright spot. It's tucked away among warehouses in Ivanhoe (which I swear is positioned to be the next Milk District), situated between the Fringe offices and a ballet studio AND note that you probably will have to drive by a few times before you find it. As of now they have very limited signage but, having talked to one of the owners (Ron), this is intentional. They are trying to grow in an intentional way, versus growth for the sake of growth. Once you find this bar (which has a garage door as an opening) prepare to be shocked. You'll know right away that this bar is special. They have the most amazing bar top which is from one giant tree and holds the record for being the oldest bar top at over 2,500 years old! It's fantastic! the rest of the furniture is custom-made out of equally cool wood and the decor is very minimal/rustic. My favorite thing? No TVs. I can't stress this enough. Ron let me know that this is also intentional. This should be a place for real conversation, he explained. His bartenders are told to really talk to the patrons and help them find the perfect beer. This leads me to my next point: The drank. Mmmmmm, this place has the hook-up! The last time I was there they had the rare Cigar City Cafe Con Leche on tap. I was shocked that this hadn't been plastered all over FB, and Twitter, but once again, Rob told me that he wants everyone to get a chance to try the unique beer and if he put it out all over social media he'd sell out in a day or two. Are you starting to suspect that I bugged this guy with questions for a couple of hour? If so, you're right. And he was so gracious and cool about this beer newb pestering him about his new bar. I'm a big fan of a tasty pint and this place is one of my favorite little watering holes. When you walk in you'll be struck by the magnificent wooden bar top. It's gorgeous and much bigger than any other bar top I've come across. You may also notice there are no TVs -- the environment has clearly been designed for drinking exquisite beer and talking with friends -- refreshing in every sense. Naturally there is a wide array of beers but you won't find a Bud Light here; it's all off-the-beaten-track craft ales. There are also some interesting alternatives such as mead. I had a wonderful barrel aged stout, Van Brandy Baptist from Epic (and it was truly epic). My wife had the Nebula IPA -- also delicious. There was a food truck outside but on this occasion we weren't hungry. Bottom line, if you enjoy good craft beer you'll love The Thirsty Topher -- highly recommended! read more
