Wow, shame on me for not writing a review on this place considering how much I love it. If you like a good, thoughtful selection of craft beer and/or sangria, and/or infused vodka, or ALL OF THE ABOVE, you can't go wrong at Thin Man. It's in a great neighborhood that attracts a good crowd and if you're a smoker like me, you'll appreciate the patio. The decor is funky, kind of southwest meets New Orleans...I personally like the pictures of Jesus next to the beer list...nice touch. They also have really cool mood lighting...the light purple hue that is supposed to make everyone look flattering. It worked, I had a few beers, looked at myself in the mirror and took myself home. Anyway, great spot, The ONLY reason I'm not giving the 5th star is that the service can be touch and go. I think this is one of the best bars in Denver. It's a bit far from downtown areas, but well worth the taxi ride south. All the vodka varieties and craft beers let you mix things up. The bartenders are great, but they can be a little short staffed at times, especially as the night progresses. The garage door helps to keep things cool inside, and the patio out back is a great place to just relax. Mix up the vodkas-- cantaloupe and ginger ale is great, so is the cucumber vodka with ginger ale. Ask the bartenders, and they'll steer you in the right direction for a mixer to make a killer cocktail. read more

Fun little bar with spacious back patio that you random activities at time (I've seen people bring puzzles, coloring books,etc). Right next to Vine Street pub so I like going there for dinner and here either before or after for a drink. They have various infused liquors which you can order however you want - my favorite is jalepeño infused vodka with a splash of pineapple juice! Your first thought when you walk into the Thin Man may be how strange the lighting is. It's pretty dark with these red tinged Christmas lights which puts you in the mood for either napping or um...just "the mood." You'll probably quickly forget how strange the lighting is though once you move onto how strange all the Jesus paraphernalia is. That sense of strangeness will only last until you see the flamingos wearing miniature toupees all over the place. What I'm trying to say is the Thin man has a lot of character. It also seems to have a lot of regulars. They also have a nice selection of housed infused vodkas and draft beers along with the normal stuff available at bars. The bar is narrow and tends to fill up pretty quickly, but the atmosphere is always nice regardless of how crowded the bar becomes. read more

Was supposed to meet up with a group of friends at St Marks last night but we changed our minds and hung out at The Thin Man next door instead. This place is really cool, with it's strings of blue lights and offbeat decor. The bartenders were really friendly and while there did not seem to be table service, I got my drinks SUPER fast when I hopped up to the bar, no standing around for ages waiting to be noticed. They have a fantastic selection of infused vodkas that I want to try but I stuck with Ace Pear cider since they have it on tap and I haven't had it in ages. There were only two drawbacks, one of their massive painted posters actually fell off of the wall onto another patron and no one offered to help her, but she didn't seem too upset, so no stars off for that. The music volume was up a bit high making it tough to have conversations, but again, I was there with a large group. Had it just been me and one or two friends, conversation would have been zero problem at all. The only reason there is a star off at all, really was for parking. At 6 PM on a Wednesday I ended up having to park a block and a half away and trying to cross 17th on foot which was pretty perilous. I would advise trying to find a spot that doesn't require the dash across 17th! I will be back for sure. read more

I've lived in the City Park West neighborhood for my entire life and it's unfortunate that The Thin Man has turned out to simply be a gentrifying replica of everything else unlike the unique bar that it claims to be. I was always excited to try out The Thin Man once I turned 21 but after my first few experiences I have decided to give up. I was excited to have a neighborhood bar that existed before the blatant gentrification and hipster take over, but not only do the patrons have nothing to do but stare and talk about "social issues" ill prepared, the bartenders act like they're not getting paid to serve their affluent customers. I highly doubt that The Thin Man's business would ever suffer because most people go there for the hip atmosphere but I've only been there a few times and one of the bartenders, Tyrone, seems to already have a grudge. I may not be a "usual" or a "friend" but each time I've walked up to the bar, he just stares stone faced like my presence offends him. To make things more bizarre, I ran into him at a restaurant outside of The Thin Man where he proceeded to point at me and roll his eyes, talking loudly to his friend. I'm not sure how I offended him by ordering a drink, tipping well, and sitting at a table quietly. I can definitely say that although The Thin Man's vibe has remained spunky, the pretentious attitudes are prevalent and they're not exempt from the exclusivity and alienation that's become so popular in the neighborhood. The Thin Man hasn't changed my life yet, but I think it has potential. It's also a nice place to run into friends. I love interior exteriors ... inside places that look like they should be outside. Thin man feels like a nicely decorated alley in Italy, with red paper lantern lights strung against the sky/ceiling. The open garage-door front adds to the effect. Jesus Mary Joseph and the Pope! There's a lot of religious stuff on the wall, an orgy, really. I think they lost their religious significance after Jesus painting number ten went up, just before the day-glo green crucifix made it onto the wall, nicely setting off the limes hanging nearby. Lots of infused vodkas to choose from, grappas galore, but all I had was the beer on tap. Tyrone was nice enough to give me a taste of something he thought would be similar to Fat Tire (since they don't have that). I would give it five stars, but it hasn't changed my life yet. This is a great little bar nestled amongst some restaurants on 17th. Ventured out with a friend to meet up and she wanted to give this a place a try since a little birdie told her about the eggnog served here. Upon arrival this place wows the eyes with the eclectic collection of art and religious memorabilia on the walls. What we found intriguing was the story. When the guy bought the bar he was looking for a good omen and a way to ensure good luck and a customer brought in a picture (can't remember which one) - this lead to all the customers starting to bring there artwork and other items for the wall. So really the locals decorated the walls and it definitely has that personal touch feel. I have to give a shout out to our amazing bartender - he was delicious to feast my eyes upon and never let us down all night. We opted for some beers on tap and to split an eggnog. Turns out the bar doesn't have the eggnog - the bartender said he could get some next door and make us one. Now that's service! Eggnog mixed with brandy to top off the night - outrageously delicious. We both fell in love with eggnog right then and there. Great bar in a nice neighborhood with an eclectic crowd and a good liquor selection - can't ask for much more. read more

With its dimly lit red café lights, odd/eccentric/charming décor, solid tuneage and delicious drinks, this place is cooler than the other side of the pillow. Other reviewers have said things about "actual character" and "zero pretense." There is something to lighting and doing it right that changes up the feel of a bar and the night completely. Very quaint romantic little spot to take a date to. Plenty of pretty people. Drinks are poured well and they have a good variety of drafts and vodkas to keep you from getting thirsty. Awesome low-key bar to kick it with some good friends. I love this place! It is pretty small and very cozy inside on a weekend evening, but the drinks definitely make up for it! They always have a new vodka flavor infusing with some interesting things everytime I've visited. My personal favorites I would have to say, are the cinnamon vodka and the pineapple vodka (not mixed together of course). They also have regular, yet still delicious, flavors such as vanilla and cucumber. If you get there early, it would be recommended to grab a seat out on their open if the weather is nice. I've only been to The Thin Man a couple times, but I honestly don't go enough. I love the energy and decor here. It's absolutely amazing and super unique. The staff is super friendly and very attentive without overdoing it. I had a few beers which I've had before, but the one drink that stood out to me was the spiced wine. It was delicious! If you have never seen the classic 1930's Thin Man film series you need to do so. The films are high quality and a real blast from the past, much like the Thin Man bar itself. The decor is post-prohibition era with pendulum lights hanging over a very tastefully decorated bar. The bar staff, though always busy because of the crowds, are super professional and nice. One of the female bartenders offered to take pictures of me and my friend after she noticed my camera. The signature thing is their infused vodkas. You can see them lining the counter of the bar. Infused vodkas aren't quite as easy as they look. I have enjoyed infused vodkas from lots of great bars like Red Square in Mandalay Bay in Vegas and Russian Samovar in NYC and I can say that The Thin Man does a comparable job with such. The cucumber is perfect on a warm day; you should take yours outside as they have outdoor seating. Really pleased with The Thin Man and will be back! read more

If I could transplant any bar in Denver out of it's current hood, and into mine, this one would definitely be in the running. I love the infused vodkas and creating my own concoction to which soda can be added. All the fruity flavor minus the sugar equals a less intense hangover in the morning. I particularly enjoy the cucumber. They're also something like $5 which is not too bad. Also noteable is their ever-changing decent beer list. The space itself is long, narrow, and has a nice laid back vibe. They also have a real wood burning stove in the middle (the tables surrounding it are the envy of me in the dead of winter). We stopped in most recently before the Yelp event at Breathe. Our bartendress, in addition to being the only one working, was adding logs to the fire. "A true bar wench!" the boyfriend noted. So yes, only one person doing everything can be a downfall, but she handled it with finesse. Another downfall is finding seating, but it's not too hard if you go early enough on a Saturday. They share a wall with neighboring St. Marks so paninis and whatnot can be ordered from next door. If you're looking for a night out with good drinks but don't feel like dressing up for it, Thin Man fits the bill. read more

Get the cucumber infused vodka!! It's so good! I like The Thin Man because they have a lot of infused vodkas which are really fun to drink. I love vodka! They also have a good variety of beer and liquor. We came here after leaving Goosetown Tavern because there were creepy guys who wanted to hook up with us and also because our private car had arrived! It was awesome.. Some interesting choices in dive-like decor (without the smelly homeless person smell). Jesus paraphernalia everywhere. I personally can't stand the pink Christmas lights strung all over the bar, but others seem to love it. The best part are the prices. Each vodka soda will cost you a mere $5 a pop, so you can sit there all day and try plenty of their concoctions until they take your cup away. The bad? Really, really slow service with an attitude. I've been to a few New York bars who carry this same vibe (which takes some getting used to). However, with the underwhelming crowd and bartenders who feel the ruder they are to you, the bigger tips they deserve, I'd suggest bringing your business elsewhere. read more

Best bar I've been to in Denver, hands down. The Thin Man was our last stop of six destinations on Halloween night and it is the most charmingly, fantastically, endearingly weird place. Like, sci fi movie weird. I know it helped that it was Halloween, but the giant paper mache skulls bouncing around to the beat, the pink light bathing the crowd, the dance floor roiling with happy, eclectic people just having a great time, and the delicious drinks meant that we fell head over heels for this particular Man immediately. The DJ was awesome as well. We loved it so much that we went back the next day and bought the t-shirt. Seriously. Seriously, there's never been a night, weekday or weekend day, that I've found myself here where it is not jammed packed. There may be moments of calm, but then another crowd moves in to occupy the vacant space. So if you come here with a group, be prepared to not have a spot. Or hover and swoop in when an open table appears. There are reasons why The Thin Man is *the* place to be on 17th and Vine: swanky, dark, sultry, intimate interior; Infused vodkas and great, rotating local brews on tap; fun, interesting people are always willing to chat if you find yourself stag. This place has a funky vibe at night. It's one of those long, narrow bars that also serve food during the day so there are plenty of chairs and tables. The biggest downfall is that the bar tenders don't try and sell their specials, and they take forever to get to you. They clearly have their favorites. I must admit, the first time I went to this place, the Jesus imagery freaked me out a little. I had been there for about an hour...when all of a sudden, I looked up and saw picture after statue after picture of Jesus staring down at me. It was a little unnerving.... However, the assortment of flavored vodkas took the edge off, and the fact that they have Abita beer on tap really made my day. In addition to great beer and vodka, this place shares a space with St. Marks, the coffee shop, next door. This was my two-three times a week "neighborhood" bar, except I was commuting there from South Denver. I'm not going to lie, as the Thin Man actually factored into my moving closer to the City Park area. The allure of infused vodkas, be it while reading on the patio in the early day or mingling with the usuals in the dead of night, is unmistakable. And when it's a beer-sort of day, their selection is one of the more eclectic in town. The staff, with the exception of one, since departed individual, is always friendly and attentive. S. has long been on my top 3 bartenders in Denver list. Of course there's then the dimly lit, narrow layout of the place with the unique decor that seems to bring a little extra quirk to your usual neighborhood bar. I once brought a friend here during Lent and willed him into drinking through the persuasion of the many leering Jesus portraits. So why just four stars now? Either house sales in the area are booming or more people have learned about this place over the years. It seems loud and crowded most nights and it doesn't let up for some time. And while I realize I've been getting older, the crowd seems to be getting notably younger. There are admittedly times where I walk by with every intention of getting a drink and move on because I just stand for the bustle that particular evening. Fun fact about yours truly: I am extremely claustrophobic. Not in the "locked in a pitch black room" sort of way, but in the "Oh, dear god in heaven, there are people pressing up against me EVERYWHERE" sort of way. When I get in a crowded bar, I can act a little weird and snippy, especially at the bar. I find that this claustrophobia is exacerbated when the venue is basically a long hallway with far too many tables packed into the length of the place. I think you can see what I'm getting at here, because I'm pretty much defining the layout of the The Thin Man. Panic-inducing layout aside, this place isn't bad. The blasphemous little imp in me loves the wall of Jesuses and the drink selection isn't that bad. The patio is quite lovely, and I would opt for that in the Spring and Summer months. I'm not sure if they have cocktail servers for the tables or not, since there aren't too many tables and no one visited my table in the 45 minutes I was there having a pint with some friends before a show. read more

I feel like I've been in the dark for years and someone finally brought me into the light--the red light, that is. Some friends took me to The Thin Man for the very first time this past weekend. What else can I say that hasn't already been said? Well, probably not much, but I'm going to write a review any way. I love the block. It's got a very laid back, emo vibe. Not that I'm emo, but I don't judge, so its fine by me. Sandwiched between an Italian eatery (Il Posto) and a coffee shop (St. Marks) this place has a lot going for it. It has a cool outdoor area with five or six tables. It has a long bar and a few scattered tables. It has pictures of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the likes looking over customers as they enter or exit the bar---this can't be a bad thing, right? The thing I love the most about The Thin Man is the infused vodkas. We were told they had great Mojitos but they were out of simple syrup and mint that night. I thought I was bummed until I saw the flavors of vodka in beautiful glass jugs on the counter. I opted for the cucumber vodka with ginger ale. I picked the winner. All my friends were envious--I love that! But I got the last of the cucumber so they had to move on to cantelope with gin and/or other mixers. Other availble flavors that night were: pepper (rumored to be hot but great with tomato), orange, pineapple, lemon and a few others I can't remember. I can't wait to go back! I can't believe I've not reviewed this place yet! I've been here a few times already and it's one of my favorite bars in all of Denver. The only hard liquor I drink is usually vodka, and they have several infused vodka flavors here. I love to get that mixed with club soda for a very strong and tasty drink. I'm serious though these drinks are STRONG...two have me going pretty good. Love love love the decor, the strange religious decor just feels right in this place. Very small/narrow and hard to get tables at times, this is a great place to hang with your friends. I'm sad that I never used to come when I lived over in the hood, but its worth it for me to trek from the highlands every so often. read more

Their mojitos are amazing. I didn't try any of the infused vodka (I try to stay away from vodka), but my friends were happy with the beer selection. What didn't make me happy? Temporarily losing my husband's credit card. First, the bartender asked me to make sure my husband didn't have it. Then he asked me to make sure of that again. Am I an idiot? It's not in his wallet, dude. We left the bar our phone number, and we also left sans credit card. That's a good way to end a night. They did comp all of our drinks, but seriously -- that kind of thing is a night-ruiner. I agree with another reviewer on here that the lack of a mirror in the women's restroom is a -1. read more

Being 4'2" 350lbs I had a hard time getting through the bar. The name says it all. I was even wearing my fitted Wal-Mart jump suit and I pulled the hell out of my hot pink fanny pack strap to gain an extra inch, but no dice. When I finally made it through the door and sat on 3 bar stools I had a great time. Like everyone says the vodkas will drink up nice. The pineapple is pretty tasty. Whatever you do, don't try the dingleberry. The beers are great and the lighting will make your eyes bleed joy. read more
