Art of Breakfast Buffet
Hannah L.

As I had been staying at the hotel, I wanted to see how great their breakfast was. As I walked into the ballroom where the buffet and plated breakfasts were served, I was instantly teleported back decades. The ambiance and atmosphere of the room is absolutely beautiful. They have this gigantic mural that covers the front wall of the room, and I could sit, eat, and drink whilst staring at it all day. They have options of a buffet or to order a la carte, which I greatly appreciated. I had ordered a la carte, but I wonder if I would have been better off with the buffet option. I had ordered the Pittsburgh City Benedict and their Baked Egg White Frittata. Both dishes did not have great presentations; nor did they taste good. The potato wedges provided as the sides were not crispy, but a mixture of soggy and slightly undercooked. The best part of the meal was the runny, but not poached, egg. The service provided wasn't too bad. I would see many servers walking around the room, but my own server stopped by my table for a total of 3 times: to take the order, serve the order, and at the end of the meal. I wish someone would have checked in along the way. Overall, I was very disappointed with the meal. However, I do wonder if their dinner service provides a different quality of food and service. *Atmosphere: 8/10 *Food: 2/10 *Service: 4/10

Delicious food, quiet dining room and great service. I honestly expected a little more hustle and bustle but I suppose this place is hopping during conference season. It's hard not to stare around the room while you're eating - it's just stunning.

...we were in town for a concert and made reservations here afterwords. Had reservations and were seated. Waitress informed us that there was a limited menu which should have been conveyed to us beforehand. We bit the bullet and decided to stay. The place was pretty empty but the service was glacial. The kicker was the $60 steak. We won't be back...

Pricey as a hotel restaurant usually is, and most staff are great. I came here for breakfast most mornings while I stayed at the hotel for a conference. Breakfast starts very early (630 or 7) which is great for me. The dining area is very airy. I liked sitting in the booth opposite/facing the entrance wall. I ordered several different things: Two egg breakfast comes with seasoned potatoes. I ordered gluten-free toast. It comes pre-buttered for you which I thought was strange. Pittsburgh city Benedict on the gf bread was bland but looks good. The sauce really tasted like mayo. At least it had a lot of pastrami. Buffet on Saturday and Sunday had lots of pastries (I could still order the gf bread without an up charge which was great), multiple kinds of breakfast meat, and 2 kinds of eggs. They also had salmon to make locs if you wanted. I also each morning got an espresso. Sadly sometimes this was rung up as a "latte" even when I ordered a single. This means $6 just for a little bit of espresso! Makes no sense; they need to have an alternate option to key in or train all the wait staff to ring it in right. Occasionally the bacon came out very crispy too.

A lovely, relaxing space for breakfast or brunch. The William Penn is a perfect example of a grand old downtown hotel that's been perfectly preserved. Brunch is only being served buffet-style due to staffing shortages, but there were multiple options including an omelette station, smoked lox & bagels, and delicious sage breakfast sausage. The service was by far the highlight of the meal -- a professional waitstaff that let no cup go empty! This is always one of our favorite places to stay and eat!

Sandwich

The menu has some interesting options to say the least but I was surprised with how much I actually enjoyed my sandwich. The portion was very filling and the house-made chips were absolutely fantastic. I am staying at the Omni William Penn for a business conference and was looking for somewhere to grab a bite, I was not disappointed with this place. I would not say you should go out of your way to come here but if you're staying in this hotel or nearby, its a nice place ro grab a bite.

High Tea

We did High Tea. Our server Robert was so sweet and gave us amazing service. The treats were fresh and tasty. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend.

When I was staying at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, I got to experience a part of their historical part, their restaurant called the Terrace Room. This hotel screamed history from the moment I waked in, which was awesome. There were plenty of seating, and the architecture was really amazing, They have original molded plaster ceiling with mahogany arches. Beautiful chandeliers and elegant atmosphere. This restaurant was opened in 1916, and I got to peek into the history even just a little but by being in this space. The variety of the buffet was pretty nice, I was liking what I was seeing. They had eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and so much more. What I enjoyed the most was their smoked salmon. Very fresh and tasty! Unfortunately, I was not super hungry, so I didn't get as much as I wanted to try. I did get some eggs, breakfast potatoes, smoked salmon, blueberry maple sausage patty, mini muffin and fresh fruits. They were all pretty tasty and I had no complaints. Their special sausage patty was juicy and packed with flavor, and smoked salmon was meaty and fresh. They were not amazing, but I was happy with their offerings. The server was very nice and friendly. Food was better than I expected, especially the selections. I wish if I was hungry enough to have more... Regardless, I had a nice breakfast here, surrounded by rich history.

Baltimore re Benedict
Stella F.

I went for sit down breakfast while staying at the hotel. They also have a buffet option but didn't look too special. Service was quick and friendly. They have free refills of orange juice (~$4). I got the Baltimore Benedict ($19) and the flavor was delicious but it was overall pretty gooey as there was no English muffin or bread base, just the crab cake, poached egg, and hollandaise but the side of potatoes was a nice relief. Overall if you're staying in the hotel give it a try otherwise you might be better off else where for the price.

This review is for the afternoon tea service. The Terrace Room is located within the gorgeous Omni William Pitt hotel, intruding into the lobby. It is a wonderful spot - you really feel like you've stepped into a slower paced time, which is just perfect for tea. It's great for people watching too, since there is bound to be a wedding party taking their photos in the lobby. However the $30 afternoon tea service didn't quite live up to expectations. Our server was absolutely delightful, but the other staff member who seated parties, was very unfriendly. Her perfume was also so strong that we could smell it from across the room, which detracted from the experience. While it wasn't too expensive (in NYC, afternoon tea is upwards of $60-100 or more), I've had afternoon teas in the Northwest for around $30 and the quality just didn't match up. I was disappointed that that the quintessential cucumber sandwich didn't make it to the plate and the ham/cheese sandwich was just blah. The scones and macaron were pretty good but the other desserts were sub-par. I would have expected desserts on the level of Gaby et Jules for the price and the location. Overall, I had an okay time but I could have skipped it.

Thé Victorian Tea

I had afternoon tea here on June 1, 2019. I was super excited however, realized that there could be many improvements for the tea service and overall atmosphere. I understand that the Omni William Penn is a historic building however, I think it could use a lot of updates. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it has to look like it. Everything in the beautiful room could be updated. The colors seemed really faded and even the beautiful flowers just blended right into the background. The afternoon tea was subpar. The service was extremely slow and the pastry chef does not seem to be well versed in simple baking techniques. The scones were way too flat and hard- I think they might've forgot to include baking powder in the recipe. When the food was presented, no one explained what each item was. I was extremely underwhelmed with the food. A few items were decent however, nothing was unique or outstanding. Would I recommend this place for a tea outing? No. When I am attending a tea service, I am expecting decadent food in an equally luxurious atmosphere. The service was extremely slow and did not seem that attentive. The food was average and the décor was too stuffy and outdated.

Apteka. This was perfect for my wife, who is vegan. An all vegan Eastern-European eatery. Great weather added to the ambience. Plenty of plants in the background. We started off with Hungarian fried bread (Langos) and then followed it with Salatka ziemniaczana. Potato salad with greens. Entree we had the pierogis. I mean, we Had to, back in Pittsburgh. Only thing missing was the cookie table but the dessert was great as well. Everything was comforting and filling. Plenty for us two. They had a special collab beer with 2 Frays, a brewery that is really solid. Was just starting off when I was leaving Pittsburgh 5 years ago and now has been pretty popular in Bloomfield. Overall, Apteka offers fine dining, inspired dishes with a vegan twist, and is a must. Reservations are a must as dining is limited to the weekend.

This resulted in a chaotic atmosphere at the two places where you could order food and constantly having to get up from your table every time you needed something. The staff essentially became food runners and they were not very pleasant. We were told that we could not have an appetizer followed by our main course as "food comes out as it's ready." With the bar being backed up, this meant we received some apparently pre-made food even before our drinks arrived. Again, it felt chaotic. The final proverbial "straw" was that they sat strangers right next to us at the same table which was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. All in all, it was hands-down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. :(

The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. I was last at Point Brugge in April 2022, when the grub and warm welcome were well-worth the price. I'm not sure what has happened since then, but if my most recent experience is anything to go by, SERIOUS changes have to be undertaken at this once gem of Point Breeze for it to justify the equally serious price increases that have gone by since then. The food: BLAND and prepared without care for the customer. To start off, my companion and I both got the "soup du jour." It was tomato and onion cream. Completely mediocre and far too sweet. I could've bought a prepared soup at Trader Joe's of the same quality. For our mains, I got a $36 (!) salmon with fried veggies and lentils. The fish was OK (it's hard to wreck good salmon), but the veggies were positively DRIPPING in oil and the lentils were salted to all hell. I could not finish the latter. My companion ordered a $16 vegetable sandwich and specifically requested no red onions. Guess what? The sandwich and its side salad were chock-full of red onion slices. So much for customer service. The restaurant: GROSS. The remnants of mussels and other food items were LITTERED all over the floor of the "top" area of the restaurant. The walls are full of cracks; the paint is peeling; and where the drywall meets the floorboard, AVERT your gaze! Giant, gaping holes pepper the entire lower part of the wall, as if positively begging for a rodent infestation. How is this up to code? The service: UNFRIENDLY. I think we were served by the manager. He had sort of a strange attitude and cadence, and only asked us anything about the food BEFORE we had started eating the soups. Consider asking us after we've finished something? I think he was mad that I had only ordered a water. Sorry! Alcohol is bad for you, and I for one wasn't going to slurp down a sugary "mocktail" next to all those oily mushrooms. Next stop? UPMC Presby. Apart from him, the staff was underdressed and loud (although, for what it's worth, a bit friendlier). However, I prefer to know if I'm interacting with a paid employee or a freight train driver who has just gotten off a 16-hour-shift driving on the CSX mailine. I get it: nobody is expecting you to wear a tuxedo in 2026. But let's at least try to outdress the most casual of customers, no? Considering Point Brugge was once a place I took people from out-of-town to show off the East End, this is a sad, sad fall from grace. I will NOT be going back, and, as long as they don't get their act together, neither should you. Not in this economy. $36 oily azz mushrooms...
