I went for a mani pedi, left with a bleach stain. Accidents happen but they refuse to be accountable, won't reimburse me for the damages clothes or refund me for the mani pedi. Really disappointing! I made an appointment with a specific nail tech and i was given a different tech without telling me. I was in for a trial for my wedding nails (they knew this) and i was give the most junior nail tech. My gel manicure was very sloppy, had to remove after 2 days because it was falling apart. The worst part is that it is not cheap. After tax $100 for a mani pedi. Extremely disappointing for the price point. Saw the reviews and they ranged from good to bad. Paid more for a first time Brazilian. Don't know why I did, there wasn't extra service or advice or going from one side to the other so that if I wanted to stop it wouldn't look wonky (which was advertised by both the receptionist when I called and online). The waxer herself was a nice person, but I have a group of hair that was missed as well as a lot of small hairs from breakage she didn't even bother to mention why she did or did not fix. Possibly one of the best and most efficient facials and waxing services I've had in a while on vacation! I was able to get an appointment the day before (online booking was a breeze). This place is an easy Uber or TTS ride from down town. Anna ( from Portugal) was my aesthetician and she did my facial as well as waxing. Went for a spontaneous eyebrow wax yesterday and The Ten Spot did not disappoint! It was about 4ish 5ish PM so I was half expecting them to be busy with a post-work rush, but I got in right away. No appointment, no problem! A nice thing about this place is that it is clean, clean, clean. Very bright and inviting. You really feel like you're in good hands. As for the brows themselves: they are good! Can't expect much better from someone who you just met, literally a minute ago. I said that I wanted to keep them as full as possible, but with an arch and shape to them. She took that as "make the side ends pointier than normal", but sometime you've gotta do what you've gotta do to get the dream, even brows. read more

I paid $50 for a gel manicure that chipped less than 48 hours later. I phoned in to tell them (one day too late of their 4-day policy, which I knew nothing about) and all they could offer were future discounts. Yes, I would like to pay more for you guys to fix your botched job. Even more frustrating was the staff admitted that there could have been a problem with the way it was cured or the polish I chose (as some are prone to chip...thanks for the heads up). The fact that I have been a loyal customer to them for around 4 years made zero difference in how they treated me. Terrible customer service from the manager. This place is super nice and all the staff were very friendly. I went with my girlfriend for pedicures, and while I only have very limited experience (she took me once before I few months ago), these guys are the real deal. Never have I had so much done to my feet before in my life. I'm an avid hockey player so the calluses on my feet can be pretty real and they made short work of that, and even included a complementary toe waxing which I never knew was a thing. The beverages and services were top notch, and the staff really took their time with everything. The place was also super clean, and they even allowed us to change our appointment time on only 5 minutes notice. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they made me give them my credit card over the phone to hold the appointment time, which I thought was a strange policy especially considering they are by appointment only. Like if I canceled or didn't show up were they going to charge me a cancellation fee? And there was also no mention of any prices at any point until we went to pay at the very end, and boy it was a pricey one. I decided I needed some aesthetic services so I came here for waxing, a pedicure, and a facial. Melanie did everything from beginning to end and she was awesome! She was friendly and made me feel at ease. I would recommend going to her if you can. I took off a star only because the facial space, although was in the back, was still open to people walking by. Shernelle has given me beautiful gel manicures and pedicures from neutral colours to totally bold & bright. She's absolutely fantastic, super professional, always in good spirits, and is hilarious! Again, I'm so bias sometimes. I worked here for almost a span of 3 years. So The Ten Spots holds a special place in my heart. I first came here as a guest and even after working here, I still come. I know to expect services performed with great skill and knowledge. As well in a clean environment, which is super important. Glaze is definitely my girl for all things beauty. For years and to this day, she is the only one I let touch my brows. Seriously. I never thought I would take my brows so seriously. I now have a strange attachment to them and will only let Glaze be their master. She is shapes them and/or tidies them to perfection and now that they have red tint in... she tints them to match my fiery red tresses. HOW PERFECT! Also TVs in the waxing room is quite fantastic even though Glaze and I just gab away. I love that there are both Essie & OPI to choose colors from for nail services. Being licensed is nifty if you're popping in to get your nails did. Like I said, Glaze is my girl for any of my services. Waxing, facials and NAILS. I've been going for a few times, but this is the third time I've gotten poor service. About two months ago i arrived on time for my appointment and I was delayed by 15 mins. No offer to give discount etc. Second time was cancelled on 30 mins or so before my morning appointment because the technician was ill. 3rd - tried to rebook that last appointment where the illness occurred for over a week for a time that wasn't during work hours and again the technician was late. They were busy doing a pedi. After 10 min the receptionist offered 20 % off. I cancelled because I wasn't going to wait my entire appointment time. Third time is the charm. MEh. I really want to love this place. More based on what I pay every time I set foot in the door, than anything else. THE DETAILS: The Pedicure. $50 It was efficient, but appeared rushed. The foot/leg massage*. BOO. :( *there was none. The girl who did my pedi didn't offer me magazines. So I just sat there. Big ol' fail in my books. Manicure. I opted for the OPI shellac, Axxium Manicure. $50 It was done at at the bar near the freezing cold window, my back facing the window streaming with condensation and a freezing cold breeze. Oh, did i mention it was FREEZING??! The little white stool I sat on made me feel like a huge assed giant, and honestly, my ass isn't that big. It was awkward, and very uncomfortable. I had to mentally stop reminding myself I way paying $50 for this service. I received zero follow up regarding care of my new shellac polish job. I expressed that this was my first time. (more on this ...) The girl who did my nails was rather ... blah, and didn't seem eager nor excited I was her last appointment on a Friday night. And kept asking me the same questions, regarding the generic answer I had given her at he beginning of my pedicure. "oh so you're going on vacation. Oh you're so lucky. Will you be drinking & partying?! Oh it's going to be so hot!". I instantly felt old. Really old. Now, back to the care of my new shellac manicure. I was given ZERO care instructions. Nor how to remove said 'polish' ------- I was completely unaware that this polish 'grows out' like those old skool acrylic nails. I also didn't realize how thick it was going to be. While it kept my nails protected from breakage, the polish itself discolored (it was a natural light pink colour) into an unsightly yellow/beige shade after a week or so. Oh, and to remove it, yeah, you have to go in to get it removed. I had no idea about this ... sigh/ In a nutshell, I got what I asked for; a manicure and pedicure. Ok. So I've been wanting to try out this salon for a while. I am still on the hunt for the best brazillian in Toronto. I went online and liked the funny casual approach to their marketing so I tried to book an appointment online. Now, I don't have a credit card. Don't want one. Never have. And I'm not getting one any time soon. In the online appointment booking feature you need a credit card to secure your appointment. As I've just mentioned. I don't have one. So I called them directly for an appointment. The woman on the phone said that it was part of their cancellation policy to get a credit card number and secure the amount for services in order to book an appointment. And since I didn't have one I would need to come into their store and buy a gift card for the value of my service. So basically they insist that you pay for your service before those services have been rendered. And if you don't, they don't want your business. Are you kidding me? I understand a company trying to ensure that their appointments are kept and that they are bringing in money. That's fine. But this is pretty extreme and seems a bit dishonest. I need to leave and go to the salon and buy a $65 gift card for myself just so I can book an appointment for a wax and an eyelash tint? No. Not going to happen. If their services are as good as they boast, I could have potentially been a frequent and loyal customer. But I don't make it a habit of just handing companies money when all I've done is speak with someone briefly on the phone. This place is lame and I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Inconsistent quality and service for the price. $50 pedicure and $100 facials call for dependable services. Like any other preening spots, your experiences will be night and day - depending on if you have developed a familial relationship with the aestheticians. I am not a high maintenance person and only go for pedis/waxings when there is a special occasion. Only 2/6 of my trips here were satisfactory- one was facials, the other was brazilian. All my pedis here have been horrible. I don't want to name any staff here, but just as an example - last two times I was at the pedi/medi bar, I was ignored, the quality was not up to par, and the staffs were total snobs. Meanwhile, sitting next to me, another 'newbie' like me, was receiving the same horrible service, and the rest of the gang who seemed to know people there on first name bases, were feeling pampered and charmed. You can imagine my discomfort. The only advice I can give you is this - either tell them you were recommended here by a friend who is regular here, or prepare to develop a more personal relationship with your beauticians over a few (Expensive!) visits and TIP WELL to receive the proper treatments you deserve given the price. read more

I would have given this place a great review, but the quality of my mani in particular caused me to downgrade it. First, the good stuff. PROS: - Very clean and hygienic - Simple, bright aesthetic - Welcoming atmosphere - Friendly service and wonderful staff - Really loved Emma, who did my eyebrows and pedi (my pedi was amazing and my feet are so smooth and soft now) - Waxing was painless Now the bad stuff... CONS: - At the end of my mani, I was told to hang out for a bit while my nails dried. I was fine with this, but started to question it when 30+ minutes passed without anyone coming back to check on me. I approached the front counter and a manager apologized, so I forgave and left happy. It was a Friday night after all, and they were booked back-to-back. - What really caused me to downgrade my review, however, was that my mani chipped almost immediately. That night, the ends begin to chip off and by Sunday, chunks of the polish had completely fallen off. My nails also chipped and the edges feel rough today. After paying $50 for a mani, I expect a better job. - More expensive than other places (and I've had better mani's for less) Overall, I'm left kind of torn on this place. I actually enjoyed myself the entire time, but I'm extremely disappointed with my mani. My pedi looks great, my eyebrows look great, but my fingernails...I need to redo them tonight. $55 + tax and tip to get the fuzz waxed off your peach but very clean and thorough. They sanitize everything and they don't double dip their applicator sticks. I skipped on the cloth use though. I've been to other salons with questionable health practices (i.e. double dipping applicator sticks, no gloves) and am unsure as to how those places stay open. The 10 Spot is quite clean from what I can tell. TV playing in the background, I guess to pretend you're just kicking back on a lazy-boy without anything going on down south. Erica is very quick, thorough, and explains stuff well. She left nothing behind. Loyalty card: 9 of the same service gets you the 10th free (mani, pedi, facial, brazilian). I like them and I think I will be back to try a facial or a pedicure sometime. A clean, effective place with a loyalty card... I'm sold! read more

So many mixed feelings. I go here for my Brazilian, so obviously it has some redeeming qualities because I keep going back. BUT I've had so many frustrations EVERY SINGLE TIME I go here, I'd be hard pressed to actually recommend it to someone else. First - I go to Erika and she's great. Professional, funny, quick. No pain. Easy. The front of house staff is terrible. They ignore you. They never offer me a drink, I always have to ask, and then it's usually like I'm realllllly bothering them. They've never been on time for my appointment, so leave cushion room for yourself if you're headed somewhere. They never apologize for running late or even seem to acknowledge it. I've arrived early before (my own fault) and it was soooo hot, so I came inside to wait, and they were empty, but they treated me like a total bother for having come early - like, "Ummm you're early?!" which I guess is an annoyance, since they were planning on being late anyway.... Getting an appointment at a time you actually desire is a nuisance, too. I've been cancelled on a bunch of times for various reasons last minute, but be sure to read THEIR cancellation policy - you have to pay if you cancel within a day. Sigh. read more

The place is immaculately clean and there is a real "no fuss" kind of luxury going on. I go here because: I don't want to meditate, I want my vagina to have a fancy new hairstyle for a hot date on a Saturday night and I gotta go so I can try on 12 outfits with 9 pairs of shoes before he picks me up. I'm in and out. I also don't need rose petals and candles, this place gives me episodes of Friends to distract me from the very real terror going on below the belt. Thanks 10 Spot. OK, so Brazilian waxes suck. They are going to suck no matter HOW great the place is. BUT, that said, Ten Spot is the GREATEST place to go get the SCARIEST waxing done. When I went, I got to watch Will & Grace while my hoo-ha (and everything else) was being taken care of. The staff members seem to all have a great sense of humour, while at the same time being extremely professional. The place itself is gorgeous. Been here for several months for various services (pedicure, waxing, laser hair removal). I love the fact that they really care about hygiene. Equipments look well maintained and clean, and no double-dipping during waxing. All staffs are friendly and nice. Especially, I had Kala for waxing and Holly and Romana for laser hair removal, and they did great job! But, not giving 5-start review because of one of my visit when I got waxing from different esthetician and she actually watched Friends, instead of focusing on waxing. I wouldn't care if she had done a great job, but it was the most awful waxing outcome I've ever had. read more

Went in for a pedicure in hopes of getting an ingrown dug out. Place is nice and clean, nice staff, but man are they overpriced for what you get. $50 buck for a pedicure that took like 20 minutes. She wouldn't go full on to get my ingrown out. For that price they should cut off my toe if I asked. :-P For twenty dollars less I've gotten a better pedicure from two other places in town: Tiffany Nails and J&C Nails. Next time, I'll not be so lazy and take the streetcar or subway up town to save some cash and be able to walk without pain. read more

Amazing; best wax ever! Ask for Melanie; she is amazing! I love it here! Staff are friendly and helpful. Melanie is just brilliant; she explains what she is doing, is relaxed and will check in with you throughout the treatment to make sure you are ok. I was seen straight away, no waiting! While I was waiting for my friend to finish up I was offered a drink. You should book. Rooms are clean, dvd player; Modern Family was playing. I laughed all the way through my waxing. I had to get a facial really, really bad. Like, face was about to explode into some serious ugliness that had to be attended to - immediately. I was able to get into 10 Spot the next day, and even better, I could book online! I showed up, was introduced to my esthetician, and was taken into the room immediately to get down to business. This is a different facial than at other places, in that it isn't a dark room with ocean sounds playing in the background. You are in a comfy chair in a well lit room, and you may be next to strangers. Be not afraid. Its great! They are very clear about this on the website, so there are no surprises here. They use Dermalogica products, which I love. The facial was excellent, as were the extractions. No complaints here! I would definitely go back! read more

I love the Ten Spot, and have been going here on and off for a few years now. From the get-go I will say their prices are quite hefty, however they are the best in the city for brazilian waxing (and I have tried many). All of the technicians are good, with some being especially great. Jamie is hands-down my absolute favourite - she's efficient yet incredibly thorough. Our schedules don't always work out so I will trust any other technician, but she is my #1 recommendation. Romana is good and very professional, but she tends to rush the service, so you may need to finish off grooming yourself. Even so, she's better than any other brazilian waxer in this city, outside of the Ten Spot. If you want a clean, "quick rip" - you go to her! I had Charise once as well and she is also quite good, very customer service-oriented, and an absolute sweetheart. Overall I am very happy with the consistent level of good service here. She told me she loves this show and I wonder if it's all she plays...There is something comforting and yet disturbing about that concept. I like the 10 Spot. I have been waxed here and also had a facial. The waxing is standard and good, but expensive. The technicians were always professional and nice and I had no issues with them. The facial was... okay. I like the premise of it being a facial bar and "anti-spa". The array of things she did to my face were great (pre-cleanse, cleanse, extraction, mask, etc) BUT I was terribly broken out from it. I have probably 4-5 facials a year and I have never broken out so badly after a facial. I don't know if this was the products they used (dermalogica and skinceuticals, I believe). I think the tech was a bit too aggressive with the extractions, she was pretty rough so I have a feeling that was the issue. I would go back for a facial since the price is right, but would not see her again. Like most spas/salons, it can be hit or miss depending on who is performing the service. I have never had a nail service there, I would like to try it to see if they are good, but the prices is so high and the reviews do seem mixed so will wait and see. read more

Have had a couple different manly treatments here. The staff are great and the treatments had all been pretty dang fine. They typically have good deals too if you book online. EG. Mini mani when you book at pedi. That type of stuff. Also, they introduced me to something called Poopouri. You should ask them about it. They are pretty passionate about Poopouri. read more

Many good elements to this place, though I need to note that I am only reviewing them on their mani and pedi services (I don't normally avail of any kind of waxing or facial procedures so I can't comment on these in general). Their booking system is accurate and precise and so far I have not encountered any delays with any of my appointments.Their range of services is great and the prices very reasonable - currently I'm trying out a system of going in for a full mani ($30) every four weeks and doing a quickie mani ($20) in between. Nikki is extremely friendly and pleasant, does an excellent mani and pedi, and I always book her specifically. The rest of the staff are always very helpful and attentive. I am very satisfied with the level of cleanliness and sanitation practices they employ (check out their website for details on this). As for atmosphere, both the pedi and mani stations are well-spaced and allow you to still maintain a little bubble of relaxation around you even when it gets crowded. It's hard not to space out people watching on Queen Street as you sip your complimentary tea between polish applications. There's lots of entertainment around to keep you somewhat distracted should you choose, mainly in the form of magazines and whatever semi-cheesy early 90's movie they happen to be playing on their TV that day. Suffice to say I always somehow end up pleasantly spaced out and distracted on my way to ultimately being very pleased with the end results of my mani and/or pedi. Today there was a hiccup with my appointment and the manager, Alexandra, handle it calmly and in the end was able to accommodate and make me - the customer - happy. Great wax, great service, great set up, great location... New review based on manis and pedis here: the short of it? I've had better. I've been here twice for pedicures, once for a manicure and both times I have left with less than stellar results. The application of the polish is what really gets me. When I go to my usual place, my nails come out beyond perfect. And to be honest, that is what I'm paying for. I don't want it to look like I painted my own nails, I want it to be flawless. On both occasions, it was not. Pedicure 1, the polish was obviously on the older side and clumping. She tried to fix it over and over until I asked her to redo completely. Even after this, it still looked bad up close. Then with the manicure, I had the OPI gel and there was polish on the skin beside my nail. Although it was just a small amount, I'm paying to NOT have that otherwise I'd do my nails myself....for free...in my bathroom with my cat. So, for waxing? Sure. I booked an appt with Raquel, and it was pretty painless! I was really happy. I've gone back to her another time and I think I will continue. I've been seeing Melanie for well over a year now - she is the fastest waxer with minimum pain - she has a breathing technique that really helps you focus away from the pain. It's not the cheapest place for waxing but I've had a consistently good experience there so continue to go back. You can also book online which I always prefer. read more

The 10 Spot is where you go for two kinds of mani/pedi's: the fast, cheap and easy or the party kind. They don't last all that long, and it's not the cheapest (in comparison to the Yonge street quick and dirty) but it's a nice joint wiht good conversation, good TV and quirky party ideas like, "Martini's and Manicures". They have DVD players in their waxing rooms and they offer young, hip products, like vegan nailpolish. This is the place you go when you're a student or early twenties type, being all urban about it. Or you just want it fast, but not dirty. Also, it should be noted, there isn't much on Queen West, so thank God for the 10 Spot, but if you need a top tier pedicure, you're gonna have to go uptown, and you're gonna pay AND it's gonna take 1.5 hours of Flare Magazine and natural fruit infused tea.
