Ordered the steak pie and ale- super yummy. Comes with a good portion of the steak soup and ale, carrots and green beans huge puffy pastry. Great flavor!

Cullen skink, and haggis/neeps/tatties snack portion.

I had a small dinner because I was still SO full from lunch. But nothing to complain about!! Came on a Friday night at a bit after 7pm and snagged the last table. Seriously super popular, I watched so many parties come in and leave because all the tables were taken. Seemed like a good mix of locals and tourists :) I ordered the Scottish tapas - haggis, neeps, and tatties. DELICIOUS. I had this dish once before somewhere else and the turnip and potatoes barely had any taste...but here, every bite was perfectly flavored! Also had the cullen skink (haddock potato soup.) Also delicious. If you're looking for the perfect individual portion of the most authentic Scottish dishes, can't go wrong here.

We were driving through Fort William and stopped in at the Tavern Cafe for some lunch. The waitress was very helpful and we had a good meal.

Tavern, gem of a High Street pub

The Tavern is a must when in Fort William. It was after dark and most businesses were closed on high street but this gem was open and so inviting. The interior was dark and wood and exactly what you would hope a Scottish pub to be. Our server was cheerful and helpful with cocktail recommendations. I tried the Flower of Scotland and it immediately replaced the Moscow Mule as my fave. For dinner I had Cullen Skink, a delicious, warm, satisfying soup made with fish, potatoes, and leeks. I so enjoyed this place. Once home, I couldn't remember what was in the Flower of Scotland. I emailed the Tavern and Gordon kindly sent me the recipe! Talk about great service. I now make them for company and give a toast to Scotland.

Great food - I had a steak pie - and very kind servers. The service was prompt and the ambiance was a nice pub.

Staff were friendly and service was good. Started with garlic bread and a pint, then I had the steak and black pudding pie while my wife had the Mongolian beer. Both very tasty and served piping hot. Cleaned the plates! A sundae for desert was a good way to finish. Regular bar in the other room was crowded and noisy - seems like a popular meeting spot. Altogether a very pleasant experience

Getting here was the most special, maybe. Having driven a car on the left for the first time ever on this day, wanting to have a beer or two, and staying in an apartment in nearby Corpach, we didn't really want to drive on this evening. On a beautiful evening, we investigated the Corpach waterfront (the end (the beginning?) of the Caledonian Canal) and took in the unbelievable views along the waterfront path (the Corpach shipwreck, Ben Nevis, the loch, and so on), and we wandered on over to Caol and the Lochy. (We returned via the canal path itself; you can jump on just across the street from the Lochy.) I see from Tripadvisor that plenty of tourists get to the Lochy, but it sure seemed like a locals' spot on the night we were there, with a number of families present. Although the outside of the place suggests that it might contain a dim warren of rooms, it's actually a couple of brightly lit larger rooms with a bar in the middle, where you order your food and drinks. Venison burger for me was pretty tasty--although it came only with caramalized onions and goat cheese, which left things a little dry--and the wife's fish and chips were OK. Like I say above, the food was fine, but not especially memorable. Several beers were on draft, and everything was reasonably priced. 3.5 stars.
