This was a great casual place to have a pint or a bite to eat while in Glencoe. We went to the Boot Bar that is at the back of the inn. It's such a great atmosphere with a cozy area to eat in front of a wood-burning cast iron stove. It's a very pet friendly place as well. We saw a cute doggie enjoying the warmth inside the bar. We ordered the chicken casserole special. It was good despite the price being a little too high for what it was. I'd expect to have a puff pastry on top of it for that price. Although, it was very tasty even though the presentation was not all that great. It was served with mash potatoes instead of chips. It was good. They have a big variety of local taps. I went with the Jock Pumpkinhead Stout from Loch Lomond Brewery while my husband had the Man O'Hoy from Orkney Brewery. We were very happy with our local brew selections. It was a very nice atmosphere for lunch. If you're a Harry Potter fan, then you may want to take that hike from here to the filming location of Hagrid's Hut. The pathway up to the hut is just a short walk from the inn. The inn itself is kind of unique with the ice ax and ski décor. It reminded me a little of Ketchikan for some reason. Maybe it was the 5 Points of Contact photo that I saw by Peter Daynes. There's also a display of ice axes designed by Hamish MacInnes. Our tour guide in Ketchikan was coincidentally named Hamish. Wow, everything does come around full circle. It all turned out to be a nice lunch experience in the Highlands. read more

Went to Glencoe when I caught a cold. I didn't have much appetite and didn't want to explore or taste anything I never tried. I figured mac and cheese is the safest... And it was delicious. Creamy and cheesy.. Hope I will have an opportunity to go back and tried other stuff. read more

An Excellent Place for a Bite After Hiking This was part of a perfect highland day for us. We took a hike up Devil's Staircase just down the road about 10 minutes, then came to the restaurant after our hike a bit wet, tired and thirsty in the early afternoon. What a lovely spot to refuel and refresh oneself! I had one of the specials for the day - a steak pie - and a beer. It hit the spot. Some in our party ordered a great tomato basil soup, and some had hamburgers or chicken. We ordered one sticky toffee pudding which may have been the best version of this classic we had in our visit to Scotland (and we tried many). If the restaurant itself is busy when you arrive and your party is all over 18, you can walk way around to the entrance for Boots - a huge bar - and be served your meal there. (It connects inside for the staff, but guests need to walk around.) You order at the bar and give them your table number, and they will deliver your food. I highly recommend this spot. read more

Unique spot close to where we were staying in the Glen Coe area. They have two restaurants beside each other. We went to the "21+" location-they do live music/shows some nights but unfortunately not the night we visited. They had a lot of beers/ciders on tap--I got a flight of 3 and highly recommend the whiskey cider. The brie appetizer was good too. I had the baked sea bass-I recommend, especially the pesto sauce on top! The fries were just okay. Everyone in my party was satisfied with their meal. I would be sure to go before 7/7:30 PM to avoid a wait/large crowd--we arrived right before a big crowd got there around 7! You order at the bar which can lead to some confusion/longer waits for food to come out. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area! read more

Clachaig Inn was a short walk from our hostel, and provided for two fun evenings out. The restaurant was cozy and warm, with a number of cider options. We had a meadowsweet cider and ginger cider the first evening, along with our pork & chorizo chili and haggis. Both dishes were delicious. The second evening we had the fish and chips and game meat pie, again great dishes. The bar on the other side of the inn serves the same food, just pick up style from the counter. We had a couple drinks in the bar while playing pool. Great atmosphere. You must try the boozy hot chocolate. Super good. read more

Clachaig Inn checked all the boxes. It was within walking distance of our lodging, is in the most picturesque setting imaginable, and, as their website claims, really does have legendary atmosphere. It's exactly the kind of place you want to walk into to complete a gorgeous day in Scotland. Thrumming with energy but full of charm, it was filled with locals and visitors sharing stories about whatever adventures they had lived that day. A little hectic, but definitely atmospheric. The food was good. Hearty, home-style cooking with a modern flair. We all ate well after a long day of walking and hiking nearby. Drink selection was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the desserts. I can't say it was the best meal we had in Scotland, but I can say we stayed sitting and drinking for longer than any other place we went to. I don't say this often -- I will definitely be coming back to Clachaig Inn one day. read more

The Clachaig Inn is a must for travelers wanting an authentic Scottish experience. Nestled pleasantly against the hills of Glencoe, this inn and pub are an oasis for travelers. The pub offers great pub food options and the rooms are pleasant and comfy. It's usually busy, book your accommodation. Location is fabulous...right in the middle of Glencoe area and a fabulous base for walking and exploring this region. One of the most spectacular places on earth. The accomodation is basic and value for money is not great for what it is. The restaurant is ok and serves pretty decent food and there is a pub that almost looks like a student bar with an extensive list of single malts and locally brewed ales. If I come to Glencoe again I would happily stay here. Dont expect luxury as you wont get it here. read more

The food was good and it is a cute space. The trail along the stream is beautiful if you want to stretch your legs. The scenes for Hagrid's hut in the Harry Potter film Prisoner of Azkerban was shot close by so you can ask someone there is you want to visit the site. read more

This place was recommended to us by our host at our b&b....were so glad we stopped in! You order your food at the bar and take a seat. We were lucky and had a beautiful sunny day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the fantastic views. Food was great and drinks were too. I bet this place is also a fun spot at night for drinks. A wonderful place in the Glencoe hills to catch a bite to eat. Can't speak to the rooms, but the bar and restaurant are in a stunning location. There's actually two places to eat - one is around the front and has more of a cafe/restaurant appeal. The place you ACTUALLY want is around the back and it's called Boots Bar. Stone and wood, a wood burning fire, several beers on draft, a selection of many scotch whiskies. You go up to the counter and order your food and your number is called out...sit where you want. Our food was ready before our beers were fully poured!! Homemade, delicious and healing in portions. Nothing fancy but good pub grub. The steak and ale pie was on special and it was delicious. Definitely recommend this pub as a stop along your Glencoe travels. read more

Setting is excellent in the late Fall/Winter at least; sitting by a fireplace in a traditional pub setting, dogs and owners alike settled in, while a nearby brewer gets set up to do a tasting. As an American, very much reminds me of Asheville. Food was decent too, but the drinks and atmosphere are the stars. read more

Wow, I can't believe I'm the first reviewing the place. We stopped here on our way through the Highlands during my visit to see some friends. I believe they filmed some scenes of Harry Potter around the corner. The surrounding area is breathtaking. The food here is outstanding. It's fresh and locally sourced. The fish and chips were unlike any I've had in the UK. The batter was more like a panko, but not as light, it was delicious. I had a wild boar burger that was seasoned perfectly. But beware, no Hawkers or Campbells allowed, as the sign says up front! read more

Did not think I could find a meal this nice, in these portions, at this price in essentially (and with all respect, Highlanders) the middle of nowhere. This is the perfect place to be after a day of hanging out in the cold and wet Highlands. And they made my girlfriend vegan dairy-free haggis. read more

Stopped here for lunch during a Rabbie's 3-day tour and they were able to accommodate our 16-person tour group without an issue for lunch. Lots of whiskey and other alcohol choices too, but we just came for the lunch. Really enjoyed the chili though and everyone was pretty envious when it came out. read more

I am dying to give this hotel a higher star rating. The accommodation is comfy, and a welcome relief after hiking several hours in the rain. It's far from luxurious, but that's ok. The setting is lovely--I can't wait to return to the Highlands. Most of the people who work here are friendly and helpful. The big drag: breakfast was a disaster. It started late, which is a downer if you want to get out and about. They were very disorganized (maybe understaffed?), and it took me 30 minutes of BEGGING the same two girls several times to get a cup of coffee. Since in this area it's not easy to get to another place for coffee / breakfast, this really detracted from my experience. read more

Called in for lunch after a morning's walking. Could not have chosen a better spot. Fantastic views of the Glen, great Highland hospitality, marvellous selection of local ales and good grub. We just had a light bite (tasty salmon baguette at good price) but we'll definitely be back for a longer visit and more substantial meal - not to mention ales! Just ask the welcoming bar staff for samples if you don't know what to go for - or if you just want to try a few! Not for nothing was this the Great Outdoors pub of the year 2013. read more
