Apparently their dinner schedule is a bit erratic. We were lucky to find them open and get a reservation, which we had to stop by to get because they don't answer the phone. I love salad and found theirs to be teeny tiny. I wanted more than a bite of apple and a bite of beet. I ordered the special mussels. They were large and sweet. I was surprised to tons them bathed in a rich cream sauce as that was not mentioned on the menu description. Didn't taste or see garlic or shallots, just a sprinkling of chive. My husband had a burger with haggis. We ordered a honey ice cream with fresh fruit. Here again, the portion was large but the fruit was barely there. The waitress was charming and attentive. The restaurant is attached to a bar. I think the entire town was there tonight. read more

This is a great local pub in Ballachulish where you place your order at the bar. I tried for my Birthday some Haggis with Drambuie sauce and it was very good. The service is on the slow side but the place was packed. The food is very well presented! Their fish and chips is absolutely delicious! The ambiance and atmosphere is relaxed. read more

Amazing food and cool pub/restaurant. Been in Scotland for 4 days now and this is the best meal I've had. Came at 6pm on a Wednesday with no reservation and was able to get seated for 2 right away. Service was great and the waitress answered all of our questions. Orders the mussels (small), haggis bon bons, featherblade of scotch beef, and the spicy venison burger. All were very delicious. Highly recommend for lunch if you are passing through or for dinner if staying in town. read more

This bar will fool you. It looks like a typical Scottish bar from the outside and inside. The secret it hides is the excellent food they offer. We heard rumors that the chef used to own a Michelin star restaurant and wanted a slower paced life in Scotland. We don't know if this is true or not. The food quality we received, however, was certainly up to very high standards. We entered and were greeted and seated immediately. I ordered a beer and my wife had cider. We enjoyed our drinks and then I ordered the lamb and my wife ordered the beef dish. Both arrived in around 20 minutes and looked and smelled great. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The best food we had in all of Scotland! Having just seen the mussel farms we ordered those for the table and they were the most fresh and flavorful morsels of goodness. For mains we had salmon, sea bass, braised beef and burger. They were all well cooked and presented and hit all the right flavor notes. My favorite was the braised beef. The flavor of the beef and the sauce were so perfect. We all dipped everything in that gravy!! Great service too!! read more

I had the braised beef shin and it was amazingly good! Super hearty and tender. My partner had the venison haunch at the recommendation of our server and he was quite happy with it. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Laroch the other night. We started with a bowl of mushroom soup. So flavorful and delicious! After soup, my wife had the Caesar salad with some of the braised scallops on the side. I enjoyed a bowl of venison chili and some risotto. The chili had a great consistency and interesting flavor. It was spiced just right! The risotto was warm and cheesy and just perfect for moderating the heat from the chili. A gem! Yelp guided us here when we were staying up the street for the night. Kind of a fancy restaurant with a classy, old pub feel. We had some beers, chatted by a fireplace and each had an incredible meal. Husband had braised pork belly and I had lamb loin chops. Our meals were melt in your mouth good and a fantastic meal we felt we'd deserved after eating a lot of grocery store food on our road trip. Service was friendly and not overbearing. wonderful little place in Glencoe! a notice: they do require a reservation if you plan on eating here anytime during the main travel months! the food here was wonderful and so were the drinks and desserts:) one thing to mention is that since this is a small town they have minimal staff so wait times can be longer but that didn't take away from the enjoyment of the meal or the drinks! the servers were all very young and were doing a wonderful job! read more

Great little pub and nice restaurant in Ballachulish. Good beer selection and there are two menus : a pub menu with salads, starters, burgers, fish, and chips (£5-15) and a higher priced, fancier rotating menu for the restaurant next door (£15-25). My fish and chips was spectacular, with homemade tartar sauce. The burgers looked great too. Kids penne pasta had homemade sauce. Will definitely go back. read more

My wife and I were greeted with a big smile by both waitresses and we chose to sit in the bar side, it's a nice rustic bar with a fire. Both the normal and special menus have a big variety of dishes from Cheese plates to Fish and Chips and a selection of dishes using local scallops, mussles and salmon then more evening dishes with lamb etc. We were there for lunch and started with the special soup and a cheese souffle to share. I had the Carrot, Honey and Ginger soup and she had the souffle. The soup was amazing and I reluctantly swapped half way for the souffle. The souffle was nice but I was hoping she wouldn't like the soup. Not much chance, she loved it dammit. It's the best soup I've tested, really amazing. For mains I had a club sandwich which was good, but then I tasted the scallops from her salad. That is how a scallop should be cooked and should taste. I knew I should have gone for something seafood! A really excellent meal with genuine friendly service and better than meals I've had at 3-4 times the price. Great atmosphere and wonderful food. We came in on a busy night and only got a small table with stools. When some other guests left we switched to their table which was bigger and had real chairs. We had to push their dirty glasses and napkins aside, and then it was ignored by everyone. The waiters that passed by a number of times didn't clear it. Not even the waiter that brought our food cleared it. The staff completely neglected to clear the table for us even though they were busy with other tables around us. When leaving we of course had to pay. The switch of tables (long before we had any food served) had messed things up even though I told the waiter right after we switched. We had to remind them what we had had during the evening. We paid and left only to realize later that I had not read the bill carefully enough. They had charged us for two deserts even though we only had one to share. It would have been so easy to make this a 5 star review. The food was 5 star, but the service wasn't. read more

Great pub! Middle of nowhere in the highlands but the menu was detailed and tons of options. Ah h a large menu I actually wondered how any of it would be good quality... trust me AMAZING fish and chips, good value for your money. I don't understand how this place has 5 stars. We had the most dissapointing dinner we have had in the UK at this place. While the food was decent, the service was horrible. We were incredible friendly (both my husband and I have been servers in the past so we have a lot of empathy for servers) but, wow, this was such a waste of time and money. We actually had to to ask 5 times for water and multiple times for everything else. At one point we ordered a beer and asked for a Whisky list and 30 minutes later... nothing. I ordered a dessert, despite my husband laughing at me saying I would never get it. 20 minutes later I canceled the dessert and asked to pay. I did notice that a party of ten who seem to be locals walked in and got seated and taken care of immediately. I don't know if we were being shunned since we "weren't from round these parts" but no one seemed that interested in taking care of us. Super dissapointing. read more

Best fish and chips I've ever had. Batter was light, tarter sauce was sour. LOVED it. Lentil soup was good. My husband had haggis bon bons, braised pork belly with scallops and apple and potato and rhubarb fool for dessert. Atmosphere was great. The outside of the building looks old white washed Scottish cottage. The bar is a cross between a pub and a modern bar but charming. The main restaurant was modern. They also serve outside (if it isn't raining!). You should get reservations as it gets busy. read more
