More expensive than I anticipated and for the style of restaurant it is. Our food was delicious…read morethough so no complaints there. I ordered the filet of wild halibut with peashoot and watercress risotto and it was delicious. I was quite surprised and a little disappointed by the serving size compared to the price. My husband opted for the lemon and thyme chicken. Again, the serving size left a lot to be desired. After the exchange rate, dinner was $112. I don't think I would come here again as the price isn't justified by the portion size or the ambiance. Also, the waitstaff were just standing around watching everyone eat which was strange.

After making reservations over a month ago, we were very excited to dine in at the Loch Leven…read moreSeafood Cafe. Location is great with views of the Loch and surrounding mountains. Our initial young waitress was very attentive and graceful throughout our dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of the main courses we desired, so we both opted for medium-rare Ribeye steaks. My partner received a proper medium rare steak, while I received a steak that was medium well to well done throughout most of the steak. A small portion of the steak was medium. Ultimately the steak was unevenly and over-cooked. Confusing, since the other steak we ordered at the same time was perfectly cooked. I dreadfully had to send a steak back to the kitchen for the first time in as long as I can remember. Our young waitress was very understanding and seemed to agree when I showed her the difference between the two steaks, and said no problem we will re-cook it for you. A little while later, an older waitress came back to the table with my original steak, who expressed that the owner/chef was currently present in the kitchen, reviewed (and perhaps cooked the steak?) and disagreed that the steak was perfectly medium-rare. I was obviously shocked at this point given we had an actual medium rare steak on our table to compare it to, and the difference was obvious for anyone with normal vision and proper cooking experience. She cut into the thickest part of the steak to show me, and what was shown was medium at best, and ignored all of the overcooked rest of the steak I had cut into previously without taking a single bite. This is where things turn truly awry, disappointing, and unprofessional. The older waitress suggested I must not understand what medium rare is in the UK, since I am American. Very condescending. I had previously also received a bit of an attitude from her when asking if they had a wine pairing for the steak (they didn't), which is common when you have a £30+ ribeye on the menu. I immediately corrected her saying that I do understand proper doneness of meat (both of us have restaurant experience and are avid cooks) and it's actually a universal standard, and this was the most overcooked steak I received in the past month I had been fine dining across Scotland. I was given the option to order something else since the chef was not up to preparing a new steak, but I politely declined to order anything additional after feeling so disrespected and seriously questioning the capability of the chef at this point. I chose to split the proper medium rare steak we did receive, and finished off our evening. The steak we did eat was just average for the price. Fortunately the co-op down the street was still open and we were able to prepare an equally adequate meal at home. The fact that the owner/chef at no point came out to discuss the issue was very disappointing and lack of accountability was a bit baffling. In the end, I was rightfully not charged for the steak on the final bill, but this was easily our worst dining experience across a month of dining all over Scotland, both Michelin-starred and more low-key restaurants. I've had nothing but extremely kind service in the whole of Scotland except this establishment, and it appears this sentiment is expressed in other recent reviews. I would suggest to skip this one and consider other great options in the area with more capable cooking staff.
