A busy spot, and for good reason! We were greeted and luckily seated right away! It was a fairly busy night with lots of large groups. It had a nice view of the ocean, big windows to look out. Excellent seafood with mediocre service. Our party of 6 agreed we all loved our dinners. I had the fish and chips which were fantastic. Tasted very fresh with a nice light batter. They also had them available as Gluten Free for one our guests which was great. My husband had the mussels and he said they were the best that he has ever had! I finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was a perfect ending to the meal. It was large enough for 2 people to share. The ambiance was nice even though the restaurant was empty (March). We were a bit surprised that the service was so lackluster and inattentive since they were not busy. Luckily, the food made up for that. read more

Excellent quality seafood. Beautiful ambiance. Unbeatable location. Lackluster service. The salmon entree was perfectly cooked, topped with a crispy pesto and breadcrumb that added an herby zing of flavor with a little crunchy texture. It was served on a pepper and potato mash with spicy green olives and all together it just worked beautifully. The trio of smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. Kids ordered salmon with fries which they inhaled. These were the best fries we've had on our trip so far. Really enjoyed everything with our meal until we tried to get our servers attention for 15 after mins to get the check. We were going to get dessert, but we had to wait so long we decided against it. Dinner at the waterfront fish house in Oban. My son ordered the steak and half lobster ! The mussels were fresh and delicious in a wine sauce. The atmosphere was buzzin' and very loud. We (Americans) just returned from 10-day tour of Scotland, and this place was a standout. We arrived mid-day without a reservation, which was not a problem, although it filled up very fast after we got seated. Nice view of the harbor from the dining room. Service was pleasant and efficient. We felt welcome. The seafood in particular was fresh and bountiful. The mussels appetizer was an absolute FEAST. The seafood chowder was well seasoned and delicious, although just a bit sparse on actual fish and mussels. Still worth it, and very comforting on a chilly day. My salmon was perfectly cooked and the best I've had in a long time. My wife enjoyed a classic, well-executed fish and chips. The kids opted for turf: venison burger and duck, which they liked. Nice location in Oban on the water. Staff was friendly but food was pretty subpar at best. We ordered the seafood chowder which had a few small pieces of flavorless fish and it was in a VERY thick and heavy also flavorless broth. It looked like Hollandaise sauce to be honest. We also got oysters and were not aware it's spawning season for them so they were VERY creamy and we almost couldn't eat them. For our entrees my fiancé got the fish and chips which was very very greasy and I got the surf and turf salad. There were 2 pieces each of scallops (which were great) squid (good) and shrimp (not very good) and then some pretty fatty and overcooked very thin pieces of steak. There was WAY too much dressing to the point it was pooling in the bowl and everything was sopping wet with dressing. Definitely not worth the $. Overall it was all unnecessarily heavy and the actual fish wasn't the focal point of the dishes but rather the fatty/heavy flavors and ingredients were. Nice location on the water - but it's very warm inside if you go there in the summer months. There's very little ventilation and some of our party had to periodically go downstairs and outside for fresh air. Three of our four entrees arrived but we were informed when the arrived that the kitchen was unable to make the 4th entree. The person in our party who ordered that quickly ordered something that really wasn't what they wanted. Nice location on the waterfront but what blew my mind was that the scallops were cooked to perfection in a delicious sauce. Too often ultra -fresh lovely scallops are over-cooked. Here, they were perfect. The fresh mussels were beautifully cleaned and oh-so-flavorful. The salmon was good. The sea bass stuffed with crab and stuff was orgasmic. And each side was excellent. Four stars for the food but sadly only one or two stars for the service. We visited on a busy Thursday evening. The restaurant was pretty packed and they were turning away folks who didn't have a reservation. Fortunately we'd booked in advance and so were seated quickly. We a half dozen oysters and the seafood taster platter for two, an order of the haggis ravioli, two fillet orders (Stone Bass and the local Salmon) and a couple glasses of wine. Finished up with the cheesecake dessert. The food was honestly delicious as noted. Sadly the service was painfully slow, to the point where we multiple times had to flag down staff to try and figure out what was going on. We were seated at 7:45 but weren't able to actually pay our bill and close out until nearly 10:45PM. We asked four times over a period of 30 minutes before finally receiving the standard tap water, and they forgot to give us our cheesecake until we reminded them again after another 15 minutes. We were done with the appetizers quickly, but didn't receive our mains for another 30-40 minutes and it took another hour(!) from that point to get the attention of someone, put in our cheesecake order, and finally receive it. Towards the end of the meal the staff were mostly focused on cleaning up the restaurant as by that point it was fairly late. I'm fairly certain our experience was atypical and we were just unlucky with timing or our assigned staff, since multiple tables on both sides of us were turned over more quickly. And the food really was great and fairly priced especially given the quality and great location. At the end we were hopeful they would proactively acknowledge their mistakes and at least comp us the cheesecake given the insane delay, but sadly that was not in the cards. read more

Stumbled upon this place near Oban Ferries and was pleasantly surprised! Great view and nice atmosphere and service! Got two starters - pheasant mushroom risotto and salty chilli squid with pork belly. Really enjoyed the latter. Hubby had the smoked haddock chowder which was tasty and my sister tried the wee haggis pie which was more mild in taste than I've had before. The pork & black pudding burger was very meaty and pretty good. Would probably return to this place to try more seafood! read more

Just ok. The food was actually pretty good but the service was awful (although somewhat typical for the UK) but you would expect a tourist town to have better service honestly. You need a reservation. They are quite rude if you show up anytime earlier than your reservation time also. Price is on the higher side. read more

From our trip in Mid July: My wife and I found this place during our stay in Oban. It was a nice restaurant with a view up on the second floor of the ferry. We came at a good time to get seated and they were able to accommodate us based on our not staying more than an hour. We had their fish and chips and it was delicious. Well done. The servers were fantastic and friendly. I even got a great recommendation for a place to get drinks afterwards. My wife had a white wine and I had a Scotch Whiskey. Both were delicious. If you are looking for a nice place to dine out that will not break the bank, The Fishouse is excellent! read more

I had my first oysters here for my birthday. They were deicious, salty & fresh. We ordered the Sauvignon Blanc house white for our drinks, it was served in a bucket of ice & was poured for us. I had the sea food chowder for my starter, it was very thick & creamy with salmon mussels & prawn, however I got 1 mussel, so was basically salmon chowder. It came with a whole meal bread, however I asked for more as it was tiny (which annoyingly I got charged for). I ordered the 3 ice cream scoop & sticky toffee as my desert, it was still lovely & warm & the melted ice cream with it was perfect! The candles on the table were battery operated which made the restaurant cold, it's next to harbour & chilly so some candle warmth would have been nicer. The staff were friendly & attentive & had good etiquette also. I had a nice time here, however it was very cold & thought was rude I got charged quite a bit for an extra slice of bread & wasn't told till got bill. read more

Wonderful views! The dining room has giant picture windows and overlooks the water. All of the decor was finished using high end materials. The food was as great as the views. We had the mussels and the lamb burger for our mains. Both had great flavors and the portion sizes were just right (room enough for dessert!) For dessert, we had the lemon posset which I would recommend for something on the lighter side and the sticky toffee pudding (always get the scoop of ice cream) really hit the spot. We were looking for a restaurant that not only served seafood but also had a selection of non seafood items as one of our group is not able to eat seafood. We were not disappointed. Although it was during a slow season for the area we had first class service and great food. The waiter made sure that we understood the menu and answered all our questions. Food was brought to the table and cleared away in a timely manner. We feel we got very good value. The waiter advised that non-fish items are prepared at a separate work station, using separate cooking pots, even deep fryers. This provided a safe and enjoyable experience for our allergic person. Located in the upper story, the area where we were seated afforded a lovely view of the harbour. The waiter even ran after us to return a forgotten glove. My husband and I arrived in Oban on Wednesday Aug 8, 2018. We stopped at the Fish House for dinner at 5:30PM. The young woman who met us at the door told us we could have a table until 7PM when it was reserved for. We said we could eat dinner in an hour and a half. We sat down but never got waited on. We waited until 6PM but no wait staff approached our table. There were several families with badly behaved children. The servers were all over them. Perhaps they wanted to move them on but no one approached us at all. We got up and walked out. The young woman who seated us never asked us why we were leaving. It was strange. Pleasant restaurant tucked away near the main ferry terminal and the railroad station. It gets very busy though so it's best to make a reservation. The service was attentive and efficient, and the food was excellent. There were lots of things on the menu that I would have liked to try so it was hard to make a choice. We shared a smoked salmon appetizer, and then I had scallops and my husband had stone bass with smoked salmon mashed potatoes (which he raved about).
