    Mussels were very good!
    Amadeo D.

Waited 45 minutes for our order on a Tuesday night. Order was wrong. Service was inattentive. Food was mostly bland. The best part of my meal at Cuan Mor was the unexpected fried Haggis that accompanied my steak frites. Because I wasn't expecting it, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was! Otherwise the meal was mostly disappointing. My steak was under-seasoned, and sub par quality, although I ordered it medium rare.and it was served as such. It was drenched in a creamy peppercorn sauce, which barely tasted of pepper. The fries were good and thin and crispy, and it came with a few onion rings which I enjoyed, but the steak itself was a disappointment. I did enjoy the mussels we had as an appetizer, but then we had to wait almost an hour for our main course. My kids burger came out wrong and he was pretty sad about it after waiting nearly an hour. Wine selection was sub average for this part of the world. Skip this place.

I love that this place was walk-ins only and it seemed to be working for them because it was packed! We were told a 45-minute wait and were pleasantly surprised to be seated in 20. They had a nice waiting area/bar in the back and buzzed us when our table was ready. We got the salad and the fish pie. The salad was superb, great flavors, lots of legumes with protein, very fresh. The fish pie was very fishy.... This may sound obvious, but it was too fishy for me (even though I love fish and eat it ~3 times a week). The preparation, especially the addition of smoked fish made the pie overpoweringly fishy. The inside was a bit dry and so were the potatoes. The broccolini were totally flavorless (steamed with no seasoning). Regardless, I ate the whole thing. The rest of the tables around us had food that looked and smelled amazing so I'd definitely give Cuan Mor another try.

    Fried Sole & Prawns

After a visit at the Oban Distillery, go next door and enjoy some great Fried Fish at Chan Mor! FAST Food: I ordered the Fried Sole & Prawns and we also got some wings and fries. The sole is thinner than the usual Cod, but really good. The prawns were fried too and really good. My dish also came with a small corn on the cob. Atmosphere: very nice Pub feel, with current music playing in the background. They have a full bar, which we didn't partake in because we just had our full next door. Service: a truly international team, our waiter was from Hungry, another from Malaysia and of course at least one local. Everyone was very nice and our food was brought out quickly. Tip: grab two tables by the front window and look out over the bay.

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing time at this restaurant. The spicy corn ribs were tasty! My husband enjoyed the Vegan Katsu Curry- he found it very flavorful! I really liked the Homemade Steak Pie- the gravy is amazing. For dessert I had the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I've ever had- I'd recommend getting it with a scoop of vanilla and my husband loved the Speculoos Cheesecake with the vegan cream. We liked the busy ambiance and were pleased that even during a busy evening, our waitress was attentive, food was flavorful and everything came out in a timely manner. We have already recommended to friends and family.

The Scottish Steak Pie served nice hot and tasty.

Food is good, we'll made and tasty. The kitchen cares about the presentation of the dishes. The dark wood paneling sets a nice ambience. The staff was friendly and attentive and they helped each other out helping food come out quickly while still hot. I definitely recommend a visit!

When you want a great weekend away, Oban is such a great place to be! Island hopping and some amazing food makes this village a highlight for every guest that comes to visit Scotland. One of our favourite places to eat is Cuan Mor! Right on the bay, the atmosphere is fun and the food so good! We just had to have the steak pie and stayed for way longer than we should have...but it really is a great place to relax and enjoy the evening . Well done all!!!

Glamour shot of the smoked salmon. Super noms.

Oban was a lunch stop on the Scottish Highlands tour I took at the end of April 2019. Our driver recommended a popular, beloved fish and chips place but when you have to eat gluten-free, what do you do? I imagined my entire lunch break time would be consumed by a meal here, but I was happily surprised by the quickness of the service on a Sunday afternoon, no less. Two different and pleasant staff members ensured my drink and food orders were taken quickly. I ordered two starters: local smoked salmon with leaves and slices of baguette and black pudding served Hebridian style with potato mash and a soft-boiled egg, sat atop a potato rosti. What can I say about the salmon? As an American, I'm (sadly) used to the overly salted stuff that comes from the grocery store, sealed in plastic and on a suspiciously shiny gold backboard. Oh my word. This salmon was perfectly soft and buttery. I was actually surprised it came with a salad, which was very welcome. Not fishy at all, it didn't need the lemon wedge provided. I like black pudding. I mean, I really like black pudding. I've had it on many occasions around the UK. This one was less spicy and assertive than others I had, but the presentation of the food was gorgeous. Layer upon layer of loveliness were revealed as I sliced through the potato-covered 'snowman' and the perfectly poached egg. On a good day, it must be amazing to sit in one of the tables outside. Yes, I came at lunchtime and could have saved £10 by ordering a land meat enchilada lunch special, I see that one of the commenters did exactly this and moaned about it. But WHY ON EARTH would you order meat at a seafood restaurant???

Very lovely lunch joint at town of Oban! The waitress was lovely, staffs were friendly and good thing the food loved up to the standard too! Great value and decent food. Nice pub. Sadly ran out of baileys!

Seafood sampler for two, a larger appetizer. Smoked salmon (not the lox - thinly sliced oil cured salmon) was the best.

He had booked the Mezzaine level which is a private area which accomodates 30 people. Now to try and book this is near enough impossible as it's always fully booked so I would book well in advance. You also have to lay down deposit, I looked into this a couple of years ago for my birthday but it was too much hassle. The meal was for 7.30 and I arrived about 20 past 7 but the main table was full and only holds 24, so the 6 left had to sit at tables for 2. My man and I felt really left out. Others felt bad for us and said if advertising for 30 it should be a table for 30, which I totally agree. It was a set 3 course menu for £19.95. The first course of soup was the only meal I enjoyed. Now I've been here many times for meals and always had a really good meal and experience. We were always served last and the waitress used our table to set down some of plates while she was serving. That felt awkward and horrible, we thought she was serving us but she was like "Oh yours will be here soon, just using your table for now while I'm serving." "Eh cheers!" And being last meant the food was cold. Was truly disappointed in my fav dessert of apple pie and custurd. Yuck! I think they had flavoured it was something weird too and it wasn't cinnamon, which I love. After a while people starting leaving so we were able to sit at the table later but we still felt like outsiders mussling in, so needless to say we didn't stay long. I prefer the restaurant downstairs, again you need to get in early to book at table or wait using a buzzer system. I also like the bar just sitting having a few drinks. The quiz on a Thursday night is ok but the DJ tends to talk to people he knows over the mic all the time, so you're getting a one sided conversation that you haven't got a clue what he's on about. Hopefully when I go back it'll be a better experience.

The table did feel quite cramped though for such a large group as we were set downstairs next to another booth - may be nice to have a large table separate for special occasions. The staff were accommodating in weaving in and around the sleeping baby too which was kind of them. Everyone's food orders came out with great timing and no one had any gripes. Such large portions for the meals and everything tasted as if it'd been cooked fresh! I opted for the seafood platter (normally a sharing appetiser) which had a lovely selection of smoked salmon, prawn cocktail, scampi and sweet chilli prawns. Would've been good to have some bread/oat cakes served with it to serve e.g. the smoked salmon onto. One issue may have been the fact the waiter asked my Granda 3 times if he was finished with his dinner. Now it was clear he wasn't as he had loads left and infact had the fork up to his mouth. The servers at times were a bit pushy to clear the table but a bit of consideration, especially of older clientele wouldn't have gone a miss. That being said, I can't wait to return to try some more of the menu as you really are spoiled for choice here!

Coincidentally, I had just a few weeks earlier walked past the church (?) and thought that it's pretty cool that you can wander down a side alley and find a pretty lovely square. That's Glasgow for you though I suppose. Our first moment included us waiting at the door to be seated - mind you, the sign specifically says you should go the bar to be seated. Duh, blonde moment. It makes total sense though, the bar staff don't have a view of the door because of the big round pillar in the way. We had a good laugh about it though. Word to the wise though - sitting anywhere close to the door can get rather drafty. Especially when it's cold outside. The place was really busy with a rather eclectic mixture of people - older men, business people and later on some youths who were pretty drunk and relatively inappropriately dressed. Anyways, on to the food. My friend went for the pork and black pudding burger with the fried egg. Be advised that there is chopped bacon in the pork mince and so don't worry about the pink spots. It comes with a side salad and some fries. I myself wen't for the veggie haggis burger (I don't know why) but I do not regret my choice (salad and fries as sides). It was very, very tasty, crumbly and extremely large. The cheese was melty and wonderful but I wish there had been a little sauce of some kind and maybe a little more spice in the burger itself. The fries were on the dull side, bland and semi old and cold. We also shared some onion rings which were pretty tasty. The batter was crisp and not dripping in oil, but it could have done with a stronger flavour I think. We drank some house red, which was mediocre but helped, and at the end, although extremely full, we had some peppermint tea to forego the dessert. The tea comes with some pretty amazing little sweet treat and so dessert was definitely not needed. It's definitely a hidden little gem in Glasgow!

However, situated on the edge of the city's east end, it's hard not to be encapsualted by Cafe Source. Formed in the basement of the truly sumptuous St Andrews in the Square, the cafe/bar is tastefully decorated and is virtually a cocoon in one of the least appealling areas of the city. While football fans could be battering lumps out of each other little more than five minutes away, more sophisticated locals and those in the know are likely to be supping a mojito, enjoying authentic and delicious(although not cheap) Scottish grub and watching a Laurel and Hardy film in here. Were this pub situated in the West End it would probably be unbearable, but so inconspicuous is its location that it maintains an extremely laidback and friendly vibe. The staff, in particular, are excellent. Visitors would be well advised to order a taxi from here if they're leaving late at night, but that shouldn't put them off coming in the first place. This is a lovely venue with some of the best local food on the go. Oh, and if you combine it with a gig in the upstairs venue, you're talking about one of the best word of mouth nights out in the city.
