Great place for pub food. Lots of TVs for a variety of sporting events. Service was good considering it is a pub.

A few weeks back a group of us decided to have a West End dinner. After much indecision, and some appalling menus elsewhere, we ended up here. Now I pass by here quite regularly but I've never actually gone in. When we arrived, it was super busy and the only free table was booked. The waitress was great (and was super all night), moved a couple of things about, and voila - we were seated. Starving doesn't come close to how I was feeling, so I opted for the chicken roast. Which was awesome - several big chunks of the best cooked chicken I've had in yonks. Tender, moist and very flavoursome. Throw in mixed roast veg, a couple of Yorkshire puddings, and loads of smooth, almost smoky gravy, and I was a very happy diner The only thing that made the dinner better was desert. I totally persevered and worked my way through the most delightful sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream. Holy b'jeezo!! I could eat that every week (ok, day!), easily! What's not to like about big slope?? Well nothing really.. They have a nice outside drinking area and inside is all dark and cosy.. I like the decor as it has an old Scottish pub type feel but in a funky modern way.. I have been here a few times for drinks and food.. The space is nice and the booths are big (try not to sit in the back of the booth as its a nightmare to get in and out when you need the loo) The staff and service have always been good. It's kid and dog friendly. I've never had a bad meal in here, they do the best skinny fries and they're Sunday roasts are a must.. Good food, good vibes and good drinks. The Big Slope is a great place to have a chill and catch your breath after a day in Kelvingrove Park and it is a nice place to have a rest if you find yourself in the Argyle Street area of the West End. I first came across this bar when some friends moved into the area and I was impressed by the outside beer garden and the selection of drinks. It is quite small but rather than feeling cramped this adds to the cosy feeling that the Big Slope oozes. I have been for lunch and I was mightily impressed at the quality of pub grub that sat before me. All too often pubs use food as a way to compensate for the loss of revenue they experienced following the smoking ban but this is not the case at the big slope. The menu is not the most elaborate in the world but in true Gordon Ramsey fashion they have created a simple selection of food that tastes great. The vegetarian option changes but I had a delicious cheese fondue and the carnivores at the table said the Fish and Italian sausage dishes were great. read more

You know how sometimes you get this preconceived notion of a biz that sticks in your head and stops you popping in and giving it a go? Yeah, well this was one of my places before I bit the bullet and popped in for a spot of lunch... glad I did! Inside it looks just like the kinda place where you could enjoy a few beverages on any given evening. Trendy but not too hipsterish, with some nice wee decor features. Grub wise the lunch menu is good, reasonalby priced and pretty darn tasty. Having a wee butchers at the beer selection, it's worth noting that these guys are echoing a number of Glasgow bars in stocking a far better selection of beers than before. Cannie quite mind what's on offer, but I seem to remember seeing a few interesting ones that I've def earmarked for tasting v soon! Worth a visit? Aye totally. The Big Slope is a bar with the laidback cool factor in one of the best areas in Glasgow to go for a night out. Formerly Air Organic, The Big Slope has a few tables lodged outside so customers can see people strolling along Sauchiehall Street above them. However, the last time I visited, the long redheaded barmaid took the laid back thing too far, taking ages to serve me, finally pouring my drinks then taking a break to chat to her pals before strolling over to allow me to pay. The Big Slope is a cool little bar that always seems to be busy. So my first recommendation is that if you'd like to eat here in the evenings (especially Thursday-Saturday) is that you book a table. Once you've got your table, get comfy. The staff are great and the atmosphere is relaxed. The bar selection isn't enormous but they've got a few tasty wines, some nice beers and a cocktail selection (I tried the cucumber cooler on my most recent visit and it was super refreshing). Oh and pro tip: A lot of the cans and bottles of beer have surprisingly low prices. I've not eaten here often, mostly because it's so busy, but we tried the pizzas last time we were there and... where was The Big Slope during Pizza Week? They need to get involved if there's a Glasgow Pizza in 2017 because their pizza game is strong. Very thin, crisp bases and fresh, tasty toppings. What's not to like? What else should you know? Well, they have a really popular pub quiz on Thursday evenings at about 9 pm, which is a lot of fun and there's some seating outside which I fully intend to make the most of if we get much sun this Summer. read more

We like coming here as a stopping off spot between visits to Kelvingrove Park and Art Gallery. Above standard home-cooked pub food: you can order some top-quality iberico ham freahly cut from the ham leg gently sweating on the bar and still choose from hand-made burgers and pizzas. another field trip with the office crew after work... big slope is small and dark but friendly and lively. i was determined to have fish and chips while in scotland and here's where i had them. huuuuuge plate so we shared, but really good. crispy, flavorful with loads of fries, er I mean chips. perhaps i'm so used to paying san francisco prices but was so pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the evening was. drinks for everyone! solid pub. read more

I'm not one for watching football in pubs. Period. I see absolutely no point in having my football watching disturbed by loud cheers, swearing, shouting at the ref and not to mention beer spilt all over me. I'm one of those rare breeds that just wants to watch (and sometimes enjoy) the game and doesnt feel the need to discuss every strike, decision or goal. Anyway, considering it's opposite the hotel I stay in I'd not been in before but we ended up in the Big Slope to watch the last part of a football match we started watching on the other side of Kelvingrove park. It is a pub very much for the locals and although there are few screens, they are small but great if you just want to keep an eye on the score, rather than going to watch a game especially. A nice, cosy local pub which we will no doubt pop into next time. read more

I've only been here a couple of times for fairly uneventful drinks, but have been impressed with the decor and laidback atmosphere. It's one of the many decent bars in this slightly under-rated part of town that straddles the West End and the City Centre. It's got a somewhat wintery theme giving it a cosy atmosphere, and it attracts a nicely discerning clientele that's slightly less student focused than most places further west. All in all, a pretty solid place to be poisoning your liver. read more

I love this place, summer or winter it just doesn't matter to me, the ambiance is great. The food is a tad slow to arrive and a bit more expensive than other places but it is worth it. I love their calzone's, Parma sandwich and rabbit lasagne. Plenty of good drink's. I would have given the big slope 5 stars maybe SIX if it wasn't for the fact that it's a bit dearer than I like. If they could make a bottle of house a tad cheaper I'd visit a lot more frequently. There just aren't enough good (or even decent) bars in our fine city that you can sit back and watch the football in while enjoying nice company and not having to sit on your hands. Big Slope, however, provides a decent atmosphere in which to catch a game of footy. Situated right beside Kelvingrove Park, this place can get seriously busy on the odd sunny day but don't let that put you off. Neither let the huge Big Slope advertising outside distract you from the fact that a good wee pub lies just through the doors. Quiet a trendy bar but with an old school kind of feel (with stag heads and stuffed grouse as little adages). The food on offer is rather good. I can personally vouch for the fish and chips - but ask them not to salt the chips as they rather over done mine! I like this place a lot. Despite being pretty swish aesthetically it's unpretentious and attracts a good mix of suits and students; the former primarily during the day. While the food isn't groundbreaking, there are at least attempts on the menu to breakaway from the usual burger and chips fare of city bars. And everything I've had has been very tasty too. This is also a popular pre-club pub, although the music played is fairly eclectic, and frequently you will find fliers and passes for places such as the Soundhaus and Sub Club being distributed here. If that's not your bag, then simply relax in the cosy beer garden in the summer months or crowd around the fire in the winter. I was really excited about my first trip to Big Slope, as I had heard great things about the place and the staff had been helpful beforehand when I emailed to enquire about dietary requirements for my colleagues and I. It was about a week before Christmas when we visited and when we arrived, there was a nice ambiance, mulled cider on the menu and a Low song was playing, so I was quite happy so far. Shortly after our food arrived, the waitress brought over a tray of drinks, but dropped a couple of the glasses onto the table, resulting in broken glass in some of our food and drinks, as well as on and around the table. Naturally, we requested that the affected meals were replaced and we moved to another table, although the waitress didn't offer much in the way of an apology and seemed slightly annoyed at our request of fresh food and a new table. At this point, half of us were eating our unaffected food, while the other half waited hungry, so we asked for a couple of portions of chips in the meantime which, again, seemed to cause slight annoyance and inconvenience to the server. After quite a wait, during which the rest of us had finished our food, the remaining food arrived and two of us ordered coffee. On the subject of the food: while tasty, the (only) vegan and gluten free option of butternut squash curry was served in quite a small portion, which I didn't think was worth the £10 it cost, as a much larger burger and chips cost the same. When she brought the bill, the waitress told us that the two portions of chips and two coffees had been removed from our bill, which we weren't satisfied with, given that this barely covered the cost of just one of the affected meals and we didn't feel it made up for the time wasted, inconvenience caused and altogether unpleasant experience. We were already pushed for time, as we were on our lunch break and we felt uncomfortable with the whole experience, so we didn't complain, although I don't think we really should have had to, as the inconvenience caused was quite clear. Overall, I left feeling quite unhappy with the experience. I just wish that the staff had made more of an effort to rectify the situation and perhaps been more pleasant and apologetic, rather than causing us to feel like we were inconveniencing them. read more

The bar is very welcoming with a funky snowboarding theme, the staff were pleasant and the drinks reasonable. It used to be Bar Miro (going back a bit) then one of Glasgows first style bars (Air Organic) after a patchy period where it went down hill a bit it's been reinvented as the Big Slope (reference to the big slope in the park the only place to drink your carry out when the suns shinning) a ski lodge / baronial / retro boozer / gastropub. Sounds like it shouldnt work but despite the deer antlers and achingly hip playlist on the sound system this is a comfy wee bar for a quiet drink during the week and popular but not crazy busy at the weekend. read more

A really great bar hidden down off the main road. Well worth a look if you ever in the area. Great atmosphere and really good food.
