I would have given this 5 stars but we did wait over half an hour between or starter and main, altho it was an actual god send as we were all like burst couches from party to hard the night before :P we ordered the JC combo for starter which was awesome, a little bit of everything and shared between three it was just enough. I recon if there was only two of yous sharing a doggy bag would be required; which they do provide if u ask :) our mains were superb, steak, chicken pasta and southern fried chicken. these we did need doggy bags for as there was more than enough to feed a small army. generous is an understatement d(^o^)b the staff were all very welcoming and the place was spotless I would definitely go back and I would definitely recommend it to any one who hasn't been :D

I first visited Carrigans for a family meal on my Mum's 60th birthday. Loads of people had recommended it to us and we thought we should check it out to see what all the fuss was about. Safe to say, all of us had a great night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been a handful of times after that occasion, and each and every time the food has been outstanding. Carrigan's is situated at the top of Low Waters Road in Hamilton which is pretty far out from the town centre. The building has served as a pub for 15 years now, and recently won 'Independant pub caterer of the Year' in all of Scotland which is a pretty big achievement considering there is a gastropub on every corner of town. The restaurant is in the same building as the pub but sits seperately so if you are there for a family meal you don't get the hustle and bustle of the people there. The restaurant is split into sections, each divided by glass panels and it looks really stylish whilst still inkeeping with the homely feel. My personal favourite dish is the Amalfi Pasta, penne with chicken in a white wine and brocolli sauce. It is amazing! The portions are massive which is quite unusual for a modern restaurant. It's really inexpensive for the quality and portion size of the food, with a typical main dish costing between 6-12 pounds. I can also recommend the chicken burritos which were great, but i couldn't even finish half of it! There are little buzzer stations on the table to press if you need service, or want to talk to the manager. This is a great idea as it means you never wait long for service. I have never drank in the bar so i can't comment on that, but it is always busy and vibrant, with loads of events on like quiz nights and special guests.

Peri chicken, veggies and some amazing chunky chips! This was a delicious dinner.

decent pub style or beefeater style food. Good for a weekday quick bite, not really for special occassions or a good meal out

Situated at the top end of Hamilton (on the road to Strathaven) it's slightly out of the town centre, but it's worth the extra few minutes drive to get there.

Plenty of options available in the 2 courses for £12.95 menu ( I hate when you only get a couple of choices on a fixed price menu, feels a bit mean! ). I opted for the Prawn Cocktail, followed by the Ham and Pea risotto. The better half decided on the Mozzarella sticks and the Fish and Chips. If I'm being picky, the risotto was made with long grain rice and should really have been more tasty given the amount of ham in it, but it was certainly passable. The Prawn cocktail was very good. The sauce was defo homemade and the addition of the crispy toasts was a good little twist on the usual combo. The lady friend confirmed that both her courses were very tasty, so I'll take her word on that! Only one real complaint: it's February, turn the heating up folks! It could certainly have been a bit warmer where we were seated but that's the only real gripe. We will definitely go back, but might wait til the chilly weather is past!

The Goth is one of those pubs that is a little social hub, hosting groups such as the choir I attend, art classes, rugby club shindigs and the like. There is the main pub, a restaurant section and upstairs, a bar/lounge area that tends to be the area where private events are held. The space itself is bright, and the pub itself is popular, and seems to build a level of loyalty amongst those that frequent there. They have their own microbrewery as well, but I haven't tried that as of yet. Rather cool though - as you can peek in to see it as it is at the back of the main room itself. Foos wise, it's all rather pleasant, if not exciting. But, there are lots of reasons to like it - gluten free is available, and there are a couple of decent vegetarian options. Their cullen skink is a meal in itself. I also visited recently for a rather raucous Christmas meal, dining on homemade fishcakes and vegetable crepes... which when it came out was a sizeable beast, rather than the dainty item I had imagined. All very nice food and definitely a worthwhile option if you find yourself peckish in the vicinity of Prestonpans. Come on in, there might be live music, or an event running, you never know.

Doesn't help the fact that it was a bank holiday. We manage to book a table while there but it wouldn't be ready for half and hour or so. It was ok, we ended up grabbing a couple of pints and seated near the bar. They did offer us a hi top table of we were interested instead of waiting for a table. But, we declined. Once we got seated, which was better as we had a table along the window with the water view. Dinner with a view. Our waiter was amazing, friendly and always with a smile. Chatted with us which was quite nice as some place just wanted you to order right when you sit down. Menu, good selection. Except that they ran out of oysters. We wanted a dozen, which then found out that they inky had five available. Which then ended up being three. Seafood restaurant, along the waterfront and they were out of oyster. During a bank holiday, that sucked. Beside that, the mussels were amazing. Cocked in the broth that was quite tasty. As well as the pate with the chutney. Our main was quite good as well. Everything was flavorful. With every single bite, there was no room for dessert. Overall, service was great. Highly recommend booking a table even if it's mid week as it does get quite busy. They have a full bar. Out door seating along the patio that overlooks the water is beautiful. It wasn't t open as it was quite chilly but on a nice sunny day, it's worth it. Food was great, staff all very friendly, good food and good vibes.
