Very dry chicken sandwich. The lettuce was hardly in there. Side salad was decent. And the sandwich…read morewas very salty.

For me, visiting a McDonald's is never exactly a proud moment. It usually means I'm a) drunk, b)…read morehungover or c) suffering a momentary lapse of self control and ruining my most recent attempts to be healthy. We've all been there, I'm sure. Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.

This place was an absolute staple for me during exam time a few years ago, almost daily appearances…read morewere made! Little italy is probably the best place to head to on Byres Road if you're wanting a coffee or a quick bite to eat. Seating is on the short side, but turnaround is very quick so you won't be waiting for long. Little Italy sells various items like pasta (carbonara is a personal favourite), coffee and cakes, but the main item on show is the pizza. All the pizzas are prepared freshly in front of you, with a variety of toppings. A standard 10" with a few toppings and a drink comes to around £8-9 so the value is very good. When you order you recieve a buzzer which will go off when your pizza is ready, adding to the quick turnaround. The pizzas themself are one of the best in the area, with a nice tasty choice of toppings. My only complaint is the cheese used isn't the greatest. Another plus to Little Italy is that it's also takeaway. Ideal when you're studying across the road!

The best pizza place in the West End? It's a difficult choice to make but there's a good chance…read morethat it's Little Italy. I'm sure most people would at least put it in their top 3. It's not an enormous restaurant. A large bar/service area takes up a lot of space, as does the pizza oven at the back and as suck the seats are kind of arranged all the way around the edges. Somehow though, whenever I've wanted to sit in, they have managed to find a space for me. They do pizza and pasta mostly, with a few other Italian favourites. The coffee is really good and the cake is the ideal thing to bring as a surprise in a take away box to a friend who needs cheering up. Trust me, it never fails. The pizza comes as slices (really squares) or three other standard sizes, starting at 10 inch and is cheese and tomato by default. There isn't really a menu of standard toppings like, for example, mushroom and proscuitto, red pepper and goats cheese, Hawaiian, Four Seasons, etc. Rather, they just have all imaginable toppings and you tell them which ones you'd like. This way you pay for the toppings you want based on the size of pizza you order, and every pizza is, in that sense, personalised. Once you've placed your order you're given a buzzer (regardless of whether you're sitting in or taking out) and when it goes off you head over to that pizza oven and the chef will hand it to you with or without freshly ground black pepper, according to your preference. The pizza is always good too. Always. The base is great and the toppings are reliably fresh and delicious. Sadly, the days are gone when a snapfax and £4 could get you a pizza and a can of soda but their still very fairly priced for the quality you can expect.

I'm ashamed to say that despite seeing this van pretty much daily for the best part of four years,…read morethat I only bought some munchies out of it last week. I know, I know. Bad me. The burger van, looks well, like a burger van. However, don't let this lead you into thinking that there is nothing particularly noteworthy about this burger van. The service is super, super fast and the food is good. You can choose from basic burgers, chips and the like or go for a hot dog, a selection of 'morning rolls' or the infamous scooby snack. As Gavin says, the scooby snack is basically a full fried breakfast in a burger. Sadly, I was not brave enough to have one myself but did have a rather big bite out of my companion's. My, it was hot! Ideal for grabbing some good, fast food on the way home and you won't even have to endure the long, excitable crowds that chippies are filled with from 11pm onwards.

Absolutely everything that is bad for you (black puddings, fried eggs, square sausage, potato scone etc...) in one towering roll, the legendary Scoobie has been doing the rounds for years and has led to "Home of the Scoobie Snack" being emblazoned on the side of the small burger van which sits outside the main entrance to the Botanic Gardens. I don't know about you, but it makes me proud to be Glaswegian.
