We were on a tight schedule with the tour bus, but they were super accommodating to us. Put our food order in right away and let us pay when it came so we could hop out. Food was absolutely delicious. We had the cod and the lemon sole. I wish we had had time to sit and enjoy it longer.

Oysters - mignonette and Vietnamese style. Delish!

Of our 10 day stay in the UK (London, York, Edinburgh, Highlands) - this was my family's favorite stop. Food was local, authentic and delicious. The service was technically fantastic but in general, the team made us feel welcome and taken care of. What a meal - it was beautiful, delicious and delightful! Thank you team!

10/11/2014: here's another review I've been sitting on for over 4 years...good grief! We arrived in the charming village of Fort William this day. I couldn't get enough of the seafood in Scotland. Talk about fresh. It practically jumped out of the water onto the plate. Crannog was no different; it was only that much more amazing and sat at the end of the dock on a loch and only served what they caught on the day. Like...what?!?!?! Yes, please! The venue was a lot larger on the inside than it looked from the street. It was a wet, cold night and the restaurant was nice and toasty. We were greeted by the friendliest hostess who told us we could hang our coats on the overloaded large branch-y coat tree. She led us into the dining room and the further we got into the room the more it felt like going to your family's house for a holiday meal. It was great. The ambiance was so warm and inviting as were the people seated around us. We ordered beverages and appetizers from the hostess and moments after she left our server came and greeted us. Two of the large parties near us were celebrating birthdays and included the entire dining room in the celebration by having champagne delivered to all of our tables. I've only seen things like that in movies. It was awesome! I love a place that gives you time to actually sit and drink and talk and eat your starters before delivering 5 more courses and your check to the table. We ordered a table salad that was so delicious and soup. I cannot remember what soup but it was like cream of asparagus or mushroom which I am a sucker for both. I just remember it being so rich and creamy and I did finish the bowl. We were allowed time to let things digest a bit before our entrees were brought out. I was ready to crawl onto the plate when I saw my halibut. It looked so yummy. He had the languostines which I'd never had before but were like eating a combination prawn/lobster. It was perfectly cooked and sweet and I could have eaten all of his meal, too. The service and food were out of this world. We closed down the restaurant with the two large parties. It was a great evening!

This restaurant has nicely done decor and good-looking, good-tasting seafood. The price is as high as you'd expect for this quality, but as a tourist, the experience is worth it. The soup and the bread and butter that they serve is also very good. One of the best meals I had in Scotland.

My husband and I found this place while exploring Scotland. We can't decide what's better the food or the view! Both were an experience we will remember forever!

Solid restaurant choice in Fort William, a tad pricey but understandable for location. Atmosphere is quaint, service is fine. The food is well prepared - mussel starter was filling and delicious, panko breaded egg was perfectly presented and also delicious.

Stopped by for lunch as we drove from Glasgow to Isle of Skye. I had the two course lunch special. There were about 4 starters and 4 entrees to choose from. I had the Apple & Fennel Soup for my first course. It reminded me of a warm apple sauce. It had a good flavor to it and was a nice way to begin my meal. For my entree I had the grilled whole plaice. I've never had this type of fish before. It's served whole, face and all. It was very tender and tasted great with the capers and butter sauce. Watch out for those bones though! Overall, the food wasn't bad. The service could use some work. The "manager" had to tell our waitress to get us bread. It also took a while at the end of our meal to get our bill. Despite that, it's worth a visit if you're in the area.

We are Brazilian's who lived in Scotland about 20 years ago and are back for 2 weeks. I am very keen on good food, and consider myself very pick. And I am very positively impressed with the outstanding quality of food we are overall tasting in Scotland. Our first night towards the Highland is in Fort William, where The Crannog Seafood restaurant is. We came for dinner and were firstly amazed by the location. By the Lock, with breathtaking views of the water and mountains with some snow left on the hilltop . And then we continue to be impressed by the warm and friendly Highland service. Our waiters were very kind, adding a feeling of welcoming to our dinner experience. The food was very good, from a mixture of the daily specials and the regular menu we had the cold and hot salmon, the leek and potato soup (as starts) and the hake pistachio crushed fillet and the crannog fishcake with salad and rouille (this from the starter list bug big enough to be a main) as main courses. The wine was a good deal delicious Karrikiri Tempranillo. And for dessert (oh my God, I can't believe we did not resist it) was tbe amazing banana pudim with butterscotch sauce and ice-cream. What an amazing meal, and view, and night. I just love Scotland!

I ordered the filet of wild halibut with peashoot and watercress risotto and it was delicious. I was quite surprised and a little disappointed by the serving size compared to the price. My husband opted for the lemon and thyme chicken. Again, the serving size left a lot to be desired. After the exchange rate, dinner was $112. I don't think I would come here again as the price isn't justified by the portion size or the ambiance. Also, the waitstaff were just standing around watching everyone eat which was strange.

After making reservations over a month ago, we were very excited to dine in at the Loch Leven…read moreSeafood Cafe. Location is great with views of the Loch and surrounding mountains. Our initial young waitress was very attentive and graceful throughout our dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of the main courses we desired, so we both opted for medium-rare Ribeye steaks. My partner received a proper medium rare steak, while I received a steak that was medium well to well done throughout most of the steak. A small portion of the steak was medium. Ultimately the steak was unevenly and over-cooked. Confusing, since the other steak we ordered at the same time was perfectly cooked. I dreadfully had to send a steak back to the kitchen for the first time in as long as I can remember. Our young waitress was very understanding and seemed to agree when I showed her the difference between the two steaks, and said no problem we will re-cook it for you. A little while later, an older waitress came back to the table with my original steak, who expressed that the owner/chef was currently present in the kitchen, reviewed (and perhaps cooked the steak?) and disagreed that the steak was perfectly medium-rare. I was obviously shocked at this point given we had an actual medium rare steak on our table to compare it to, and the difference was obvious for anyone with normal vision and proper cooking experience. She cut into the thickest part of the steak to show me, and what was shown was medium at best, and ignored all of the overcooked rest of the steak I had cut into previously without taking a single bite. This is where things turn truly awry, disappointing, and unprofessional. The older waitress suggested I must not understand what medium rare is in the UK, since I am American. Very condescending. I had previously also received a bit of an attitude from her when asking if they had a wine pairing for the steak (they didn't), which is common when you have a £30+ ribeye on the menu. I immediately corrected her saying that I do understand proper doneness of meat (both of us have restaurant experience and are avid cooks) and it's actually a universal standard, and this was the most overcooked steak I received in the past month I had been fine dining across Scotland. I was given the option to order something else since the chef was not up to preparing a new steak, but I politely declined to order anything additional after feeling so disrespected and seriously questioning the capability of the chef at this point. I chose to split the proper medium rare steak we did receive, and finished off our evening. The steak we did eat was just average for the price. Fortunately the co-op down the street was still open and we were able to prepare an equally adequate meal at home. The fact that the owner/chef at no point came out to discuss the issue was very disappointing and lack of accountability was a bit baffling. In the end, I was rightfully not charged for the steak on the final bill, but this was easily our worst dining experience across a month of dining all over Scotland, both Michelin-starred and more low-key restaurants. I've had nothing but extremely kind service in the whole of Scotland except this establishment, and it appears this sentiment is expressed in other recent reviews. I would suggest to skip this one and consider other great options in the area with more capable cooking staff.
