I ordered the Cullen Skink, as it was a Scottish dish I had really wanted to try on my trip. It came out in a timely manner. I found it to be just fine. There were very tiny, sparse pieces of a darker fish. The potatoes in the soup were undercooked and uniform, leading me to believe they were canned. Overall, it was decent and warming enough. For my drink, I wanted to order a local gin & tonic. The server was helpful enough to make a gin recommendation.

I got the seafood sampler as my main which came with mussels in a creamy white wine broth, smoked fish pate, fried fish, bread and sauce. Enjoyed the seafood, especially the mussels, though I would have preferred a nicer bread to soak up the broth and spread the pate onto. For dessert, I wanted to try the cranachan sundae, having never had cranachan. Inside was oats, berry compote, clotted cream (I think), ice cream and whipped cream. It was all excellent! My vegetarian friend enjoyed her veg burger. I felt the waitress was a little bit standoffish. Food came out in a reasonable timeframe.

They also had a couple of small sandwiches to eat. On the other side they had main Chinese food. So overall they had a LOT of options. We chose the northern hot beef, beef tender soup noodles, Singapore rice noodles and a hot chocolate and a slice of apple pie for desert. The hot chocolate and pie arrived immediately and looked absolutely wonderful. As we kept waiting for the main dishes, we couldn't resist and we finished off both. The apple pie was fresh and had that wonderful crisp taste with the right amount of crust and not too much sugar. The hot chocolate was the perfect mixture of frothy milk, milk and chocolate. We had to add a bit more sugar though. We ended up waiting a good 27 minutes for the food to arrive. Now normally this wouldn't be that bad but since we were on a tour, our bus gave us an hour to finish our lunch. It took us about 12+ minutes to find the place leaving us only 20 minutes to eat and no time to look around. This is a tourist area so it would be better if they can manage to get their food out earlier. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious and had great flavor. The staff was very understanding and helped us fuss around trying to get everything ready to take with us. We will definitely recommend this place and go again if we have some more time!!

When they bragged about making their sandwiches on site, I expected something more...my fault...it was okay for a quick bite at a quick stop along a tour. The more surprising thing is that this oversight hadn't even occurred to us until we sat down for lunch at the Bridge Cafe and saw that a couple of different breakfast plates were on option. It was not too late! I think we both went with the "Wee Yin," which was only £6 and came with an egg, meat (lorne sausage for me), bacon, a tattie scone, beans, and toast. I don't think I have a small appetite, but this was plenty. (The "Big Yin" adds additional good stuff for £2.5 more: haggis, black pudding, and mushrooms. I'd have to wait till the next morning to get some haggis and black pudding...) This was simple but hearty eating, and very satisfying at the midpoint of a drive from Skye back to the Edinburgh area. Spean Bridge is a charming little place, and this spotless cafe is colorful, has plenty of natural light, and a cheerful air to it. At one point, a couple of the young servers picked up instruments (acoustic guitar and accordion) just behind us, and I thought we were going to be subjected to acoustic jam versions of pop songs, just like those dreaded at a certain chain sandwich shop in the States. But this was pretty great, just an interlude of a couple of sprightly yet gentle instrumentals, and then they were back to their tables. Excellent spot.

The food and flavors are from the Highlands and Skye and I loved their placement, its a map of Skye and some of the food produced in that region. The chef is a young man and I saw him coming out of the the busy kitchen a couple times to take a break. He shook my hand when he asked what Whisky I was drinking and I told him a Gelnfidditch 18. The two problems with the restaurant were they had the heat turned on very high, it was uncomfortably hot and I would honestly rather have been cold. The other problem was they were very short staffed so the meal started out great but our server was invisible toward the end and we sat around for 20 minutes trying to see him so we could leave. Haggis + Paneer Pakora: Great Haggis fusion dish, felt traditional and yet paid homage to some of the new cultures that make up the UK. Slow Braised Lamb Shank: Rosemary Infused Mashed Potato and Roasted Root Vegetable. Very tender and delicious, our whole family shared this even though it started off as just my wifes dinner. Sole Veronique: Potatoes, spinach, and a cream sauce. Tasted OK but I thought the sauce was too heavy for the light fish it was on. If you go across the street from the restaurant and look down you can see the iconic row of different colored houses that a lot of people were taking pictures of.
