Came here on a wet and windy evening and enjoyed a great dinner. We came early (before 6) as our…read moreB&B advised everything quite full, and were given a nice corner table next to a couple of regulars who filled us in on local sights. Staff were friendly and service was good. Started with garlic bread and a pint, then I had the steak and black pudding pie while my wife had the Mongolian beer. Both very tasty and served piping hot. Cleaned the plates! A sundae for desert was a good way to finish. Regular bar in the other room was crowded and noisy - seems like a popular meeting spot. Altogether a very pleasant experience

The Lochy was fine for what it was for us--a very casual, very basic pub dinner after a relatively…read morelong travel day from Edinburgh--but it was probably the most average food we had of nine or ten days of mostly great eating in Scotland. Getting here was the most special, maybe. Having driven a car on the left for the first time ever on this day, wanting to have a beer or two, and staying in an apartment in nearby Corpach, we didn't really want to drive on this evening. On a beautiful evening, we investigated the Corpach waterfront (the end (the beginning?) of the Caledonian Canal) and took in the unbelievable views along the waterfront path (the Corpach shipwreck, Ben Nevis, the loch, and so on), and we wandered on over to Caol and the Lochy. (We returned via the canal path itself; you can jump on just across the street from the Lochy.) I see from Tripadvisor that plenty of tourists get to the Lochy, but it sure seemed like a locals' spot on the night we were there, with a number of families present. Although the outside of the place suggests that it might contain a dim warren of rooms, it's actually a couple of brightly lit larger rooms with a bar in the middle, where you order your food and drinks. Venison burger for me was pretty tasty--although it came only with caramalized onions and goat cheese, which left things a little dry--and the wife's fish and chips were OK. Like I say above, the food was fine, but not especially memorable. Several beers were on draft, and everything was reasonably priced. 3.5 stars.

After roaming around the town and a tiring day out, being South Asian, we were craving some rice. We spotted this place and decided to give it a try. We walked in and were greeted with warm, smiley faces. The restaurant was almost empty, which made us a little unsure at first -- but we decided to settle down and order: * Chicken Szechuan * House Special Fried Rice And wow... what a meal it turned out to be! The Chicken Szechuan was absolute gold -- perfectly cooked, loaded with veggies, and coated in flavorful sauces. The House Special Fried Rice was good too -- though I personally would have loved it a bit spicier or with more veggies. The pricing was reasonable (thankfully not £17 for a single basic meal ). Service was very good -- simple, polite, and efficient. The décor was typical Chinese style, nothing fancy, just a couple of servers managing the place Overall: simple place, tasty food, good service. 4/5

It's 5-star as in I don't think you find much better pub fare in the middle of Scotland. Fort Augustus isn't a sleepy little village - it is a touristy area with people trying to catch a glimpse of Nessy - so while there aren't a ton of options, there are a number of places to eat and I think for a less pricey meal, this is definitely your go-to. We were at the tail end of a long road trip and were headed back to Edinburgh, but needed dinner. Stopped in here as they had a couple of options for my pescatarian fiance. We split an order of mussels - I'm pretty sure we liked it but honestly, its been a while and I don't remember how good it was. However, based on my entree - I got the Chicken Escalope - this meal was delicious. The chicken was essentially just a lightly breaded chicken breast with a large side of veggies, but however they cooked this, it was delicious. Not only was it a lot of food, but it was really tasty. On top of all of that, our server/bartender was a young guy in his 20s who seemed to know everything there was to know about Scotch. He had some fantastic recommendations that unfortunately, I could not find to bring home, but really enjoyed the scotches I drank there. He was also very friendly and accommodating, and helped make the meal one of the more memorable ones. So yes, I know many of you would look at the 5-star rating and think I simply drank too much scotch. You wouldn't be wrong. But neither am I. As far as pub fare goes out in the middle of the country, this was excellent.
