Classic Miami institution that recently relocated nearby and it still has that classic Coconut Grove vibe. Highly recommend.

The Taurus now has Salsa nights on Saturdays. The dance floor is quite small so dancers take over the entire patio area as well and carve out a little corner for themselves to show off their moves. There was no cover when I last went. Very nice crowd, good looking and definitely serious about Salsa. read more

This was my first time at Taurus and although our waitress was wonderful, the food order took really long, and when it finally came out, we had side items missing and some of our order was wrong and one of our orders didn't even come out until we were done eating. They took forever to get get those missing items out that we had to request to go boxes. I'm giving this place 3 stars because even though we really didn't complain, the manager and waitress felt so bad for all the issues we experienced that they knocked off some items from our check and gave us a free appetizer. The food was very good. I had the Grilled chicken wings, I ordered the Taurus Barbq sauce, but I got the buffalo wings instead, but they were really good and I had a bite off the Chef Alex burger and it was delicious. I really don't understand how this place got so many negative reviews! I think it needs to be taken for what it is; a simple no frills bar with a very laid back atmosphere. I've returned here almost every Wednesday since my first visit a few months ago. First off, they have a great ladies night on Wednesdays.... I think it's all well drinks, American beers (even the good ones!), and prosecco (a tasty one at that) are free until midnight. The bartenders are always super friendly and attentive. I LOVE the outdoor seating! Such a great place to hang out and people watch! I haven't tried the food (my reason for only giving 4 stars) but I plan on trying a burger on my next visit. read more

The new gem of the grove! I was invited by a friend to this place and was glad I went. Very nice old school bar. You feel very at home sitting in the front porch area knocking down drinks. I had the chef Alex burger and my girlfriend ordered the margarita pizza, both were very good. The service was great and they have a wide selection of beer and whiskey. I went on a Monday night for live music and had a great time. The Waygu sliders w/ goat cheese were memorable. The wines by the bottle are reasonably priced and the outside area offers a great space to lounge in a quiet part of the grove. They also offered the Calamari menu from Calamari next door and allowed you to order from both restaurants on the same bill which was truly a great feature because between the two restaurants there really is no place to complain on either food or choices. It's unbelievable I had never been here before, being that it's been around forever! But, I finally made it and I loved the vibe; I loved the huge beer menu. The food was ok - I had a burger, which was decent - not the best I've had. I've been coming here since before I was old enough to drink and this place has been a Grove institution since way way back. One of the original characters in the Grove. Yes, I called a place a "character". This place has its own soul. Very authentic to its Coconut Grove roots and you may catch this vibe when you enter the place. You just have to sit and have a drink and wait for it, wait for it, something authentic will come over you. I feel like I'm in my home. A comfort. That's what a good bar is. An extension of your home. But with strangers it in. But strangers that are chill just like you. Not part of a chain or a fake Starbucks community feel. A real bar that stands on decades of well worn history. If these walls could talk, the stories they could tell. The people that have walked through this place and had their moments here. Famous and infamous characters. Regular neighbors and common folk. A true neighborhood bar. Everyone and anyone welcome. Oh, and comedy night on Thursday nights is a true hidden gem. Real standup!!!! Wow I'm reading all these other reviews and I can't believe that we are talking about the same place. In my experience with bars in the Grove, (and I've had many) I have yet to go to a true pub style bar that really embodied what a bar should be, a place to have a real cocktail. Upon walking in I was warmly greeted by the bar manager Nicolas, (very handsome by the way) and he explained to us how he really tries to stress cocktail education and cocktail culture. My girlfriends and I tested his knowledge and asked him to make a few cocktails and he wowed us with his presentation, fresh ingredients and bar flare. All of the ingredients behind the bar are fresh and they have a selection of over 20 beers with one of the cheapest happy hours that I have ever seen between 4 and 7pm everyday of the week. Suffice to say our first experience was great but we wanted to see if it would stay that consistent, so we went the next Friday when the bar was packed with a live band. Again Nicolas was their but he let his beautiful bartender Susan take care of us. Susan, just like Nico, made all the drinks with fresh juices which was great. She also impressed my boyfriend with her knowledge of single malt scotch. Later we got burgers and wings which were phenomenal, easily the best in the grove. Anyways I feel like I can't say enough about this place. Great service, great cocktails, and its alittle bit off the beaten path of the regular Grove crowd so you can come to the Taurus to hang out casually and with alittle bit of privacy. read more

great for salsa dancing (w a bit of merengue, bachata, and end of night reggaeton thrown in) on Saturday nights. great, fun crowd, and gets crowded after 12:30. no idea about food. someone behind the bar may have given me a slight dirty look for asking for water. but the other bartenders were totally obliging when i asked. just tip a $1 every so often if u just order water. wish it was one of those salsa places that just leaves a pitcher of water and glasses out with a tip jar. nice surroundings and setup of the space and outdoor areas, decent area of town to park/valet the car. read more

Taurus is the best spot in the Grove hands down. Every Friday I look forward to grabbing a seat outside with my friends where we exchange stories and enjoy drinks (they have a great happy hour btw, and the service is awesome). It's a cool spot to gather with friends and people watch. Also the bar menu is yummy. Not to mention you can order from Calamari next door and still enjoy a laid back vibe. I absolutely love this place and the burgers are delicious. The staff is friendly and the manager is very attentive. My only complaint is the cleanliness. It is REALLY dirty. One one of my visits I was sitting on the front patio and keep noticing debris in my drink - it was coming from the rafter above - just falling into our food and drinks. On another visit I sat on the back patio and you could see all sorts of carts and dirty equipment stashed against a wall. I love dive bars - and will be back - but to the management at Taurus - please - it's time to clean! read more

The bourbon selection was good, though this review is in regards to poor management/customer service. I was overcharged $18 on my bill, which I did not notice until a couple weeks later as it was added on to the tip. Most likely an honest mistake, either the bartender thought the 2 was a 20 or mistyped the amount. Regardless, I have called numerous times over the past month. Each time, there was no employee on site who was capable of offering a refund (I called at all hours of the day). I also left my number each time and was promised a call back later once a capable manager arrived. So far I have had no response from anyone at Taurus. I live in Tampa, so am unable to go by in person. I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company. Very poor and disrespectful customer service and I would never recommend this place on principal. read more

By far the coziest bar in The Grove. The staff is probably my favorite part about this spot, Ian is always the absolute best with my friends and I. Huge craft beer selection, as well as tons and tons of whiskey! As if this bar couldn't get any better...they allow dogs...inside and out, so for an animal lover like me this is pretty much a drunk girls heaven. So I came in for brunch with a couple of friends and the service was AWFUL. My server Vicky was very rude. She implied I was having a terrible day, I figured it was from the service she offered. The whole scenario was a fiasco, nobody seemed to turn the page through the whole visit. It seems that once one person gives you bad service they create a pact. Nonetheless words wouldn't suffice the reasoning to not wasting your time in this bar, restaurant or whatever it is they consider it, don't waste your time here. My friends and I went on a Tuesday for trivia. . . What a mediocre experience. Cocktails are a bit pricey ($15 for a Sazarac, and 7+ for most beers) I have the burger, which since they do two thin patties instead of one larger it's sopping in grease, falls apart immediately and cannot come prepared to the temperature of ur liking. It's 15 for the burger and an extra 3 for bacon. The trivia host was the worst. His questions were subjective such a the 5 funniest chapelle skits and how much does the rock Johnson weigh. Which is the antithesis of trivia. Trivia is supposed to be indisputable facts. The thing that irritated me the most was the dog inside the bar. It bothered everyone at our table while it sniffed at our feet, and climes all over the bench we were sitting on. Being as I am allergic to animals I find this to be particularly obnoxious since there was a perfectly suitable outside patio for the animal and owner. Overall I would only recommendation Taurus for a quick happy hour pit stop. read more

Apparently they share the kitchen with the restaurant next door, which was the reason our food never came out. It took more than an hour to get an appetizer and had to leave before getting our burgers. I would be okay with the wait if the place was packed, but the entire inside was EMPTY. Burgers shouldn't take too long to come out, but this kitchen is run by absolute morons. The service was great, but the kitchen is horrendous. I feel bad for the servers in a place like this. Walked in and wasn't greeted. I didn't think anyone was working except for the bartender but eventually found out that some of the people who looked like guests were actually employees who for some reason didn't greet or direct people coming in or passing by them. When I found a server, he happened to be funny, kind and attentive although he basically told me I had to tip him even though I had a groupon which was kind of weird but I do understand that some people using groupon don't tip correctly which is what he explained. He was honest too which was nice because most servers advise you to get the most expensive things on the menu whether they are the best or not. He actually advised us to get one of the cheaper plates on the menu and it was pretty good! We got the burger which under different circumstances I would have felt was not worth $15 because of the lack of flavor but apparently they only make 12 burgers a day because they're always fresh and I did appreciate how fresh and simple it was. The server educated us and the ambiance was very nice. We would have waited for the comedy but it started too late. There ended up being an older crowd at the restaurant which was interesting(60+ years). I would come back if they have comedy at a more appropriate time for people who have work in the morning like me but would not come back for food alone because the place was a little bit on the pricier side. read more
