This was my first time getting Korean food, and I'm so glad I finally decided to get it. While the restaurant looks shady and scary, once you walk in, you'll be transported by the smells. I ordered a spicy bulgogi beef, and chicken egg rolls to-go. The egg rolls are some of the best I've ever had, and this beef is so perfectly tender and the sweet and spicy flavor is just delicious. Best Asian food in the UNT area.... at least until Hanabi ramen opens Edit: have now gone back 4 or 5 times and the food is always good. Walking here from the UNT campus this little restaurant is pretty good. For 8 dollars I really got more than I expected. I ordered the eagle box with spicy chicken which was good but not exactly memorable. The chicken came with rice, a side salad, Kimchi, fish cake, a small bowl of soup broth, fruit, and various tempera such as shrimp, onion and a dumpling. The typical Korean sides. Out of everything I really enjoyed the kimbap my friend ordered for around 4 dollars though. It was simple, cheap, and hit the spot. I know good Korean food! I lived in Korea for 2 years. We are a mixed Korean family. I have been eating Korean food since 1982 in Korea, in Hawaii where there is a large Korean community and in Southern California where Korea town in Garden Grove & Irvine has some of the best Korean food outside of Soul! Heck I even cook my own Korean food! Please do not waste your time here. The food is tasteless and even tastes old. I ordered the spicy pork and was asked how spicy which I chose the spiciest! Not even that spicy ??? How can you mess up kimchee? Seriously! The portions are micro small, the typical kimchee side dishes that you are accustomed to getting are a joke. I received 3 different sides that were so small I ate each of them in one bite. And the kimchee was not good at all. I make my own kimchee so I know what a typical winter kimchee is supposed to taste like. For $15 bucks I expect to be full. I ordered at a walk up bar and then I was called to go get my own food. Why in the heck are you asking me for a tip?? There is nothing tip worthy. This place is basically on the university campus. You are robbing students! Seriously. Oh and how in the heck can you mess up sticky rice? It was watery and tasted like tap water. Absolute garbage! I almost never leave a one star but I had to wash out my mouth because it was so incredibly disappointing! If you're around the Denton area or on the UNT campus and craving Korean food, this is the closest Korean restaurant. Otherwise, you'd have to drive to Carrollton for your Korean fix. But they never fail to deliver. They've changed their name and their menu has changed a few times now but their food is still delicious and flavorful! The pricing is pretty cheap too so you don't have to worry about going broke for Korean food! The store is a bit hidden and the parking lot is a bit small but that doesn't change the fact that the food tastes great! Definitely recommend! read more

I really wanted to love The Taste, but unfortunately after two visits it seemed just an average Denton restaurant. I have loved Korean food in the past because of all the vibrant flavors, but only found rather bland items here. On my first trip we tried the fried seaweed rolls and the bibimbap bowl. The rolls were a little greasy and chewy. They didn't really pack much flavor at all. The bibimbap bowl had a lot of fresh veggies but hardly and flavor. We kept adding sauce just to make it good. The rice at the bottom got hard very quickly and just wasn't enjoyable. The second trip I tried the kimchi fried rice as I have never had that before. Again, this dish didn't have much flavor and I found myself adding sauces. The rice and kimchi were cooked well, but just wasn't anything special. Also it was kinda small for $8. The restaurant itself is small and the parking lot is kinda a pain. The bathroom was kinda gross. On my second trip the staff wasn't very friendly either. Was craving korean food, so went here for lunch since it's near UNT campus. The staff was friendly, environment was nice. The only dislike I had was that there was no parking spaces. The restaurant was located near a gas station, and the space was packed. I ordered the sizziling bibimbap with pork, and it came with three small sides, this red sauce, and a small bowl of miso soup. I wished that they put little slices of tofu in my miso, because the soup was kinda plain. Boyfriend ordered korean bbq, and it came with rice and miso for $13.99. It didn't come with much, so when he finished his food, he was still hungry. Overall, this is a good place to go for inexpensive (only $8.99 for a meal) and good korean food. Several months ago my husband and I tried The Taste for the first time and we were taken such good care of!!! The owner asked if we had been there before and I explained to him that I wasn't familiar with Korean food and was excited to discover Denton had one I could try. He went over the whole menu with us and answered questions and was so sweet! He explained the Korean sides, portions, spiciness level (I am such a wimp about spicy) and you could really tell how much he cares about his business. It was touching. I have been there four times, received stellar service from all the different people and the Eagle Box is a great deal. You get an entrée, steamed rice, salad, tempura shrimp and vegetables, a fried dumpling and Korean sides: kimchee, daikon and fish cake which were new to me. Kimchee is too spicy for me though my husband liked it and I really liked the fish cake! My favorite eagle boxes have been the Bulgogi Beef and Pork Cutlet, both were so good and great introductions for people new to Korean cuisine. I really liked the Kim Bob (like sushi) and personally feel the egg rolls and fried dumplings and tempura shrimp are much better quality than other places in Denton and I have had a LOT of those around town. I enjoyed trying the Korean packaged pastries, there is one with an egg custard filling that was very tasty. They are on UNT campus making it easy for students to walk to though parking is very difficult. They are located in a small parking lot with a gas station and salon and there are only two spots exclusively designated to the restaurant. However, they have a great to go menu that has pictures of everything and you can call in an order (they welcome that) and pick it up real quick if you are worried about it being a crowded time of day. I have been able to find parking each time but that may or may not have to do with me going on Friday evenings or Saturdays. If we support this business and help them thrive maybe they can eventually expand to a vehicle friendly location. I may not be an expert on Korean food but I can 100% tell you this food tastes outstanding- it's superior to most of the options around town, the service is great and I personally find it really important to support small businesses. Reward them for what they are doing right and enjoy some great food, made by someone who obviously cares. read more

Bulgogi House is officially no more. Taking over where Bulgogi House left off as THE Korean place in town, is Czen. Brought to us by the same owners as Czen in Hmart... think Bulgogi House with newer, nicer tables and chairs, new owners, and a slightly revised menu. O, and much better service. Or think Czen in Hmart... without the rest of the food court and with a menu that non Koreans will find easy to understand. Foodwise, Czen offers a tasty bulgogi and a tofu soup that has a nice balance of taste and kick. And then there the dolsot bibimbap... which I didn't try, but the smell of that sizzling rice made me with that was what I had ordered. We walked in Saturday night (family of 3) and should have immediately walked out. The young man behind the counter had a tissue stuffed up his nose - he was handling silverware, trays, and the sides. Our fault for staying, but while our food was being prepared in the back, we watched him pull out the tissue, blow his nose, handle a couple of items, then wash his hands very briefly in the sink without soap. We kept waiting for the two adults in the back to tell him to take the tissue out of his nose, but they didn't seem to notice either. Gross! With the flu going around, this was unacceptable in our opinion. Compared to Korean restaurants further south - I would still recommend traveling to Carrollton or Royal Lane. The sides were a joke - I think I counted a tablespoon worth of kimchi. I got the bulgogi and it was only mediocre. We were desperately hoping for a better experience to save our trips south. And as everyone else complained - there is virtually no parking so you have to walk quite a ways. I wish I could find one positive, but unfortunately I cannot. read more

The taste is attached to a gas station that for all practical purposes is on the UNT campus. You would never notice which is a shame because it is honestly one of the best restaurants in Denton. I'm so happy this place is here considering I'm a student at UNT and my cravings for Korean food will no longer have me drive 25-30 minutes to Carrolton to get some. Although this place doesn't have dishes like Naengmyeon (which is literally my favorite) The dishes here taste amazing, I've eaten from the Spicy Pork Bulgogi to the Bibimbap. The food is always served out sizzling hot and ready to be served. If you're wanting to get a combo type style of food, look into the Eagle Boxes. They serve certain types of meats along with other small little dishes in the box at a reasonable price. My only complaint is the serving sizes of the side dishes, I LOVE kimchi and pickled radish whenever eating my food and when they give it to you it's like they're handing you the scraps. Not to be offensive or anything but I really think the side dishes do the whole meal a big service alongside. Nonetheless, this restaurant is amazing and I'm coming here all the time to eat after classes for lunch or dinner. read more

The best deal- always consistent, price never changes, KIMBOB it is like Korean sushi the biggest difference is they rub sesame oil on the outside of the seaweed. The inside has rice (duh), egg, imitation crab, fish cake (very small amount so not fishy at all), carrot, root veggies, Chinese Chives, and Yellow Radish. Second best deal- Their ramen is great especially for anyone who has only ever had instant ramen noodles and used the little packet to make a "broth". Although there wasn't much broth what there was of it was super flavorful, a little spicy, and rich. The dish is $5 and comes with side dishes. If you don't think that will fill you up get the Spicy Seafood Ramen with is $6.99 and that ramen has mixed seafood and a spicier broth. The staff is really nice here, and the food comes out in a timely manner. This is a great place to go in Denton if you are looking for some good Korean food. I've been here a couple of times and leave feeling satisfied because the price is good and the portions are good. This past time I ate the spicy rice cakes which were delicious. I usually order this fish at other Korean places in Carrollton, and this Denton restaurant didn't disappoint. I ordered their sizzling stone bimbimbop the first time I went and felt like it was lacking in flavor. The portion size was good and the rice did have that stone pot crunch, but I was missing some of that pickled/seasoned vegetable flavor I've experienced with other bimbimbops. I still recommend trying this place out because they do have some tasty dishes. Be aware that parking is minimal because the parking lot is small and there are a lot of college parking signs near by. read more
