Had a quick lunch here and appreciated the outdoor seating. Our waitress was very kind and informative. She was also attentive and offered to refill our soda before our glasses were even empty, which was so nice. I didn't drink, but the food I ordered was great. I got the tap fries appetizer that came with the sample of dipping sauces and I would come back for that alone. I ordered the Indiana pork tenderloin sandwich and it was as huge as it should be! The Tap menu features something so useful, so simple, and so utilitarian that I simply can't believe that this is the first time that I've come across it. With two pages of beers brewed in-house, determining what to order could prove confusing if you had to go off of names and descriptions alone. Obviously, the types of brews are listed as well, which helps, but there is also a small Cartesian graph with Sweet/Bitter on the X axis and Dark/Light on the Y with the type of beer plotted. This is GENIUS! Between the striking number of quality-sounding beers listed and my appreciation for their menu ingenuity, I'm already feeling very favorable toward The Tap. I mentioned the large selection of beers, both their own and many others on tap as well as some 1700 in bottles or cans. There are also ciders and a few other brews, but there is limited wine and no liquor, so don't come in looking for cocktails. You'll be able to find something that you'll enjoy if you even marginally like beer. Or good food. I didn't mention the food yet, which is excellent! Appetizers, entrees, desserts? Got it all and everything has great flavor! Service was also amazing! Our server was a former bartender who knew the answer to everything we asked as well as being quick and friendly. The space is large, with lots of pub tables, booths in the back and a long, winding bar that sits below a small stage for live acts that looks over the two rooms. TVs are present, but not overwhelming, thankfully. Rather, the many paintings of sports or the foot traffic outside seen through the two walls of windows distract the eye more than anything. COVID-19 update to my previous reviews. Called the Tap today and ordered two freshly filled crowlers. The friendly customer service dude told me I could come in to pay (which sort of surprised me, because I thought businesses were only doing curbside right now). I explained to him that I am OLD af, so he said he would bring it out to the car. Ten minutes later, I pulled up, showed him my ID, signed the CC receipt and he loaded the beer into my car. I wasn't thrilled about having to sign the CC receipt, sort of wish they would try to figure out a way to not make people sign during this virus thing. He told me they had been cleaning the pens between each transaction though. The beer (Bionic Dragon Blood Orange) was delicious and super fresh. Looking forward to the pandemic fading away and enjoying beers (and food) at the Tap again soon. In the meantime, curbside is the way to go. read more

The parking is a bit tight but great walkable downtown square otherwise! I strongly recommend installing the Parkmobile app when visiting because all the parking meters are parkmobile. The Tap has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food all around. I recommend the brewberry crunch draft and the firecracker shrimp tacos! read more

This is a hard place to rate since it's both a bar and has a full menu of food. My friend and I enjoyed our food, but it's a bit overpriced for what you get. If you like beer they have a huge selection of on tap and bottle/can beer. Make sure to call ahead about events/trivia going on. Their website clearly stated that trivia was happening the night we went and they had no sign posted to say otherwise. We were lucky to have just happened to mention it to our waiter so he could tell us it's not happening. I find it difficult to settle on a rating for a place like The Tap that is equal parts restaurant and bar, but I'll treat it as I would treat any other restaurant. The TL;DR here is that it's a good place to go and just grab a beer or two, but not necessarily a destination restaurant or anything as far as I'm concerned. My first time ordering food from the tap, I was focused on keeping my bill as cheap as possible, so I got the cheapest beer on the menu and the cheapest dinner (a grilled cheese). I wouldn't recommend doing that, so if you're on a budget, come here when you're feeling like being a little spendier. The grilled cheese, to my memory, was just a greaseball. My second time ordering food, I got the turkey cranberry club, which was actually pretty decent. They put a lot of meat on the sandwich, but were actually pretty skimpy with the cranberry stuff, which was what made the sandwich good! Just wanted more of it on there. I will also say that The Tap's fries are pretty good. I don't think they live up to their reputation in the same way that Nick's fries do, but regardless they're still good. My friend's meals on this second outing earned mixed reviews--the bean burger was a notable "don't get this again." The beer at The Tap is definitely the highlight. They have a ton of varieties on tap. Not too many other drinks to pick from, but they have some shandies and other fruity beers that non-beer-drinkers might enjoy. And they'll tell ya! I joke with my friends that the waiters at The Tap make choosing your beer feel like the most important decision you've ever made, like you've been given the nuclear codes or something--LMAO. They really push the samples. Gotta hand it to them, they want each person to find their perfect beer. All in all, fun spot, just not a go-to for me and not necessarily a dinner destination. read more

Omg can't believe I've never reviewed the Tap! It's the perfect place to go for live music, watch a game, or to sit outside. They have a wide variety of beer (as one would hope lol) and a nice selection of food. The pizzas are perfect for splitting between 2 not super hungry people, or if you're very hungry I would recommend just getting your own lol. Def recommend the margharita pizza! The fries are also the go-to. All of the different sauces, you're bound to find one you like. Perfect app to split between 2-3 people. They have a monthly burger special, but I've never tried one. We were the only people in there for a while and then two other parties showed up in the end. The service was awesome and we really enjoyed the food. We got The Tap fries (must-have!), Indiana Tenderloin (the reason we went to the Tap), BBQ sandwich and Fried Green Tomatoe BLT. My only negatives are that The Tap Seltzer tasted like vinegar and that we weren't given silverware&had to request a knife and were still only brought one set. I didn't know they had chicken and waffles for brunch! If you know me, you know that I loooove chicken and waffles. The chicken is different from other places. It wasn't fried in batter but it coated in breadcrumbs. Still really good. The portions were really big. My boyfriend got a couple of beers to start out with. They have a Three Floyds beer on draft but he said that it was kind of sour and not much to his liking. He is usually a huge Three Floyds fan so I am surprised he didn't like the beer as much. I got a mimosa. I'm not a huge drinker so my Asian glow was strong halfway through my drink. Overall, the service was okay. It was anything to brag about. I always have a pleasant experience at The Tap. The general ambience is never too undergrad-y, even on game day. And while I really love Upland, The Tap is just at a more convenient downtown location. The shareable pub food is great. My favorites: *PRETZEL STICKS + BEER CHEESE (Seasoned warm pretzel sticks with savory craft beer cheese dipping sauce.) - the warm pretzel sticks are nice and fluffy and the perfect vehicle for the dipping sauce. mmm. *DILL PICKLE FRIES (Lightly breaded fried dill pickles served with ranch dipping sauce) - this one is my favorite. It never disappoints! I love that they also cut it into a "fry shape." Everyone raves about TAP FRIES (House seasoned french fries. Served with 4 house-made dipping sauces: beer cheese, Parmesan garlic aioli, sun dried tomato pesto crema and chipotle ranch.), but I think it's just ok. The sauces are unique but the fries aren't as good as Upland's! With their extensive beer on tap, you're bound to find one that suits your palette! Service is really hit or miss though. Yes this is bar that's almost always packed with students, and game days forget about getting food in less than an hour and a half, however outside of game days I really love their food and this is a go to for us for lunch. Their margarita pizza is delicious, but more importantly they offer impossible burgers for a delicious meat free option! I also love their house salad, unlike most places house salad it's not just lettuce, they have a ton of toppings (cucumbers, boiled egg, tomatoes, etc), and their fish options you can add to the salad are always yummy (mahi and ahi)! read more

I've been here many times over the last year, and the tap has yet to disappoint! The apps here so great, my favorite are the dill pickle fries, it's perfectly fried, and so yummy. The pretzels are super good too! The apps are large enough for sharing with your party, I'd say one app per 4 people. The entrees are great too! My personal favs are the burgers and the firecracker shrimp tacos! I usually alternate between them! I also really like the wings, you can go wrong with any of these. I'll be honest, I'm not a beer drinker but I do love their root-beer! They have a large selections of brews, and even offer non-alcoholic options for those who don't drink! This is one of my new favorite spots at Purdue. I actually like that they have a restriction for 21+ years old only since it is a tap restaurant. It's like a nice place for upperclassmen at Purdue to gather while still having a great place to bring your parents when they come to visit. I have had a different variety of their menu since they've opened and I've loved every item, even the salads (which sometimes aren't the best at other grill and burger places). You really need to try the truffle parmesan dip for your fries as it's the best dipping sauce I've had. The customer service is great and they always have a beer to recommend when you are trying to figure out what to try. It's even better that they have free sample sizes so you aren't stuck with a whole beer that you don't enjoy! The only problem I've run into here is the music is excessively loud. My wife were in town around lunch and after street parking, we began wandering towards the courthouse and spotted the Tap. I had been to the one in Indy (near the start of Mass Ave), but not to this one. Guess what...I liked this one better! They have a large dining area as you enter (and a smaller one that can probably be used for private parties in the back). We picked a spot for ourselves and before long, we received the food and beverage menus. We went for one of the round high tops that have backless stools for seating. Note that the tables have coat hooks underneath, so if you want to take your jacket off and stay awhile, you can use the hooks without having the garment leave the table. Great idea! We both ordered sandwiches and got seasoned fries with our order. My wife's Cali Club was served on a bun and had chicken and avocado as the main ingredients. I went with the Cranberry Turkey club and it was as huge as it was delicious. Between the two of us, we had plenty of fries left and I saved half of my sandwich for dinner in the to go box. I also had a flight of four of their house beers and got two of them that I had sampled before: Nefarious Nectar (9.2%, 29 IBU) and Midnight Fuel (6.3%, 50). The Nectar had a lot of spiced flavor while the Midnight was a strong coffee taste. I also tried the Plum Parship single Belgian (4.8%, 18) which fell a little short on the plum flavor but had a pleasant wheat taste. The Tapenator (7.5%, 25) was a dark lager with dark chocolate and fruit flavors that I though was good on its own, and stood up to the flavors of the sandwich and fries. I complimented the book he was reading, which led him to ask me for other book recommendations. I miss living in a college town. We were seated in the back room, where things were incredibly quiet (nothing was really busy yet, but the back room was deserted). My friend picked a cider to start. I had the beer cheese burger, an impressively flavorful burger topped onions, beer cheese, and smoked bacon. I intended to eat half; the burger had other plans for me. The food was a disappointment to say the least. We stopped for a burger because the menu showed several choices. They even stated "hand pattied" however they were machine produced and tasted of soy. Similar to a gas station burger. Yuck. Our waitress was new - she stated so - and it was clear as she served our food to us without providing any napkins or cutlery and we had to request that our table be wiped down.
