100's of beers and great IU vibe makes this spot a go-to for a beer and a starter. Service is outstanding.

The Tap remains one of my favorite places in my favorite city of Indiana. I am especially a fan of their southwest chicken salad. There are nights when this place is simply too busy and too loud. But that has to be expected from a sports bar in a college town. But I've always had very good experiences with the food here.

    Beer Cheese Burger

Good burger, would recommend switching out the "liquid cheese" for a more grown up option of cheese.

This was the bill that Erica brought to us after we complained about how bag the food was that we didn't eat.

Well they keep deleting my review so I keep putting it back up. I came here for my anniversary in 2019. I had the awful waitress named Erica. The receipts to have her name on it in the pictures below. This lady started off okay. I ordered a hamburger with the cheese on the side tell us what the cheese on the side so I could put as much cheese on my stuff as I wanted and it wasn't just slathered on there. I had been here before so I knew how it was. My husband ordered a chicken Caesar salad. We got no refills this whole time. The waitress kept running over to the booth where her boyfriend and all of her other partners were and just talking smack about everybody. Very unprofessional. When I tried to let her know that the cheese was on the burger and all over the tater tots rolled her eyes, whatever I asked for it to me made correctly so then they brought me out a burger with nothing on it just a Patty and a bun no cheese on the side no lettuce tomato pickle onions nothing. Still brought me out another thing of tater tots with cheese on it so I gave up on that. My husband sees our salad was spoiled. You could smell it you could taste it something about that salad was off. We let her know she rolled her eyes again and then went to complain about it to her boyfriend for 20 minutes instead of turning her tables. Normally when there are multiple issues going on at a table you let your boss know or the manager on duty or whatever right? She did not. We were drinking banana beer that they had on the menu which was delicious but we kept having issues with the food. So two and a half hours go by we're ready to leave because obviously they can't make my burger correctly and I can't remake whatever my husband wanted I don't remember at this point. So we get the bill. Erica had charged me for the burger that I had not eaten as well as the chicken caesar salad which we still had on our table untouched with a piece of chicken spit out in a napkin next to it. We asked why they were still on the receipt because we didn't eat them she told us you ordered it you pay for it. I said that's not how it works mind you I am pretty calm at this point because I get that it's a misunderstanding she is not calm. So then I asked for a manager she straight up told me no and walked away and went over to her boyfriend's table. And then proceeded to tell everybody at the table what was going on with my situation, whatever. 30 minutes go by I'm still telling her every time I see her I want to speak to a manager and she's refusing to talk to us at this point. So I get up and I go to the bar and I'm pretty upset at this point but I'm not yelling. I ask for the manager. The guy be on the counter asks what the issue is and I said I'm having a problem with the waitress and the food. So I talk with the manager there's a really tall guy I don't remember his name might be in the original review if you can find it. He had no idea what was going on. So he fixed the bill we just had to pay for the beers. This made the waitress upset. So we put cash down with the receipt. And I'll have you know this irresponsible child of a waitress kept my change. All of it. So I asked her where my change was. She just laughed and walked away so I again ask for a manager I was done at this point. So then she comes up to the table and puts all nickels and pennies on the table in front of the manager. I made the response how childish. And I said that's so weird that this establishment has no quarters at the moment and she said that she would have to go up to the safe that was upstairs. Which was untrue so the manager had a talk with her don't know what was said but so then she never walked upstairs to switch the change out but magically we were able to have quarters in our change again. So then I complained to the manager again how she lied about it and I said I watched her the whole time she never went upstairs she just went over to her boyfriend's table stared at us laughed at us and then walked behind the counter. Let the manager know that we're never coming back this is Despicable at this point how we are being treated. He apologized he said that he would have a really long talk with this person and how he didn't understand why she was acting this way because she has been there for 3 years. I said she's acting this way because her boyfriend and everyone that she's %@^@^@^ is sitting at these booths over here so she's showing off. So obviously we leave no tip. I do the initial review it gets flagged can't use the server's full name okay switched it resubmitted it she flagged it again and then she wrote me a personal message that's on my other post on here. So then I messaged corporate. Then corporate got a hold of me and asked if we would be willing to come back and have a free dinner on them and I believe I said I would think it over but at that point there was no way I was stepping foot back in that place.

Loud but friendly, I was here for a beer in the evening where I found a table and was able to write a few Yelp reviews before winding up for the night. A few TVs tuned in to sports (no Indiana game on this evening) and so I was mostly undisturbed despite it being pretty full. Friendly service, spendy beer, a good spot for wifi. Nice ambience, good selection of local beers, excellent service! We were visiting from out of state for the parents weekend. Stopped by here for a beer and a bite. Loved our hostess - Kiley! She told us about the beer samples that this place offers....they brew their beers locally. We tried four of them and my obvious pick was the one with hints of coffee - Night Huntress! My husband had the Bionic. We tried their Tap Fries with different dipping sauces....loved it too. Definitely stop by this place to try it once while in Bloomington!

The weekend we went happened to be Bloomington Pride, so this place was packed. A fun mixture of college students, 20 something's, and older folks. You enter through a tall fence off of an alleyway, so I'm guessing it's challenging to find if you don't know where you're going, but that's part of the fun. Of the 4 lesbian bars we've been to, this place wins for best decor hands down. We're talking zebra print walls, stuffed unicorn heads, yonic art, glow in the dark paint. Great vibes. They have a super cute outdoor patio as well, and I loved the little food truck on the patio that opens at 9 pm! Great waffle fries and hot sandwiches. Nothing hits as right as hot cheese when you're drunk. They have tons of fun specialty drinks on a menu behind the bar! Also a great mocktail menu for the sober community! Everyone was super welcoming in this space. The one complaint I have is the Dj... we came here to dance the night away and barely made it to 11 pm because the DJ didn't play any recognizable songs or songs with a dancing beat. There were only around 10 people on the dance floor at a given time. On the other hand, this is the first lesbian bar I've been in that has had an operational dance floor with anyone on it, so that's a win. I can't wait to come back again the next time I visit Bloomington!

Its a safe place to foster community of any kind. They support so many local organizations it makes my head spin. I do know the owners on a personal level. That doesnt sway my 5* vote. They are true women who do care. It is undeniably the best place to dance in BLM any day of the week. They do have great drink specials. Upon arriving, we showed our IDs to the first bouncer, who directed us to a second bouncer for an additional ID check before entering the pub. The second bouncer reviewed my ID and approved me without issue. For context, I am a current graduate student at IU, born in 1997. He then examined my friend's ID. She was born in 1998, yet he told her that her ID was fake and attempted to confiscate it. My friend firmly insisted that the ID was legitimate and asked what she could do to verify her identity. The bouncer claimed that the ID did not look like her and stated that she could prove it by using Face ID on her phone -- a request that made no sense, as Face ID can be used by anyone with access to a phone and is not a valid form of identification. While this interaction was taking place, white women were continuously passing us in line without being subjected to the same scrutiny or additional ID checks. The bouncer did not stop or question them at all. It is important to note that in my friend's ID photo, she was wearing a blonde wig and eyelash extensions, which she was not wearing that night. Despite these differences, it was still very clear that the ID belonged to her. Eventually, the bouncer stated that he was done speaking with us and suggested that we take the issue up with management. Once inside the pub, the first employee we spoke to was dismissive. He waved his hand at us as if to shut down the conversation and said, "You're here, you can just stay." We explained that the issue was not about being allowed inside -- it was about being racially profiled and feeling unsafe and unwelcome spending money at the establishment. As we attempted to explain this, a man standing next to the employee aggressively turned toward me and shouted, "WHAT," in a threatening manner. As a woman, I felt unsafe and intimidated. Engaging in a confrontation with a visibly intoxicated man who could physically harm me was not an option. Another employee, Connor, eventually stepped in and attempted to provide some comfort. He expressed empathy and stated that although he is white, he understands what it feels like to be a minority. While he cannot fully understand the experience of being a minority in America, I did appreciate his effort to acknowledge our feelings and the fact that he was the only employee who showed us any compassion. Based on this experience, I encourage people of color to be cautious when supporting Upstairs Pub, as our treatment made it clear that this is not an environment where we felt respected, protected, or supported.

During my college years, a good portion of my Bloomington memories are from the Bluebird. Fantastic bands, good friends and a somewhat aggressive number of drinks were the common theme multiple nights a week. Now that I'm OLD(er) the visits are less frequent, but when the right bands are in town and my calendar isn't slammed with adulting, I still find the Bird to be my favorite place in town. The original Bluebird was about half the size it is today. Several years ago, they bought out the restaurant next door and added a large additional space, leading to a pretty big bar/nightclub with a 'bar area' that includes a nice full bar, booths and tables, and the 'live music' portion which has a big stage, plenty of room for big crowds, and a warehouse vibe that is second to none. When you arrive, you'll start to see pictures of the amazing acts that run thru the Bluebird when they're just on the cusp of being 'huge' - from REM to Miranda Lambert to Gryffin, just about every genre is represented and it's nice to say 'I saw them with a few hundred of my friends' after you give ticketmaster your kidney to pay for their giant stadium shows. Reasonable drink prices, good people behind the bar, and the best bands currently playing the area, you can't go wrong with a night at the Bluebird. I wish I was still young and able to do multiple shows every week, but for now I'll just appreciate having it in my backyard so I can attend with the mood hits . Best bar in Bloomington.
