I don't ever really eat fudge or taffy at home, but I turn into a fudge and taffy monster when I make my way to Northern Michigan. I was excited for all the taffy at Mackinac Island, but definitely got my fill of taffy the day before here at The Taffy Barrel. It was such a fun activity for our 3 kids to fill buckets with every kind of taffy possible. Pickle taffy? Yes, it exists...and it's kind of good. They each got a bag and I couldn't resist a bag for myself, which I've been munching on for days ever since. I also got some taffy at the Kilwins in Petoskey and have to say The Taffy Barrel wins when it comes to the best taffy in the area. I know I couldn't come to Charlevoix without stopping here so highly recommend for others as well!! read more

Pricing aside, this place is a favorite. 5 stars go to places I want to (or do) visit every time I'm in an area. And I don't want to miss Taffy Barrel when I am in Charlevoix. It's so fun to plop each piece of taffy into the cute baskets. I often grab 3-4 pieces of each flavor that sounds good. The only bad part is when they spread them on the scale and I hear the high number that will go on my charge card. That said I'm happy to support them and glad they've stayed in business. These flavors and the fun memories of picking out candy on each trip make it worth the price. read more

What a wonderful lil shop. Candies everywhere! I love the old school candy (like the penny candy). Anyone that loves candy and taffy check them out. read more

Such a great shop in downtown Charlevoix! They have over 80 incredible flavors of taffy to choose from, as well as jelly belly, m&'m's and a million old fashioned candies too! The service is always sweet and I'll definitely be back for more soon. read more

Retro candy, mostly taffy in many flavors including dill, chicken and waffles and maple bacon. The other flavors were just what you expect. Good taffy. read more

So many flavors, and your purchase comes with a flavor guide to help you remember what you bought. They don't just sell five different pink taffies, and leave you to figure out which is strawberry, cherry, cinnamon, cotton candy, or peppermint. Each flavor has its own design and color combination that makes it unique. We bought a variety of flavors and can't wait to try them all! read more

FIVE STAR BABY ALL THE WAY!!! Plus I created a new word CANDYGASM!!! (Yes it needs to be added to the Webster's Dictionary). Absolute freshest, soft, most defined taffy flavors I have ever had in my life. Kicks butt over all my fav East Coast beach taffy shops, Mackinac Island and everywhere where else in our awesome country that I have tried. The owner lady told me that a lady makes all the approximate 90 different flavors for her. All I can say is that lady needs to start franchising some taffy shops! Yes it's that great. They have the most unique but well mixed flavors you could imagine. Jelly beans galore in every flavor and good old fashion rock candy on the stick in several flavors. Oh BTW if you like jawbreakers or have a big mouth friend, do buy one of their 1lb jawbreakers for $12.95. This is a must stop if you're driving on US 31 "Up North". I need a Taffy Barrel CANDYGASM now! Why oh why did I only buy 1 pound? read more

Cute boutique store in downtown Charlevoix with barrels of taffy in every possible flavor you could dream up. When you come in, you pick up wooden pail and pick out whichever candy selection you want. After filling your pail to the brim, you bring the pail to the cashier and she weighs it. You pay a certain amount of money per pound. You definitely should swing by here if you have a sweet tooth and love taffy. read more

The Taffy Barrel in Charlevoix makes great taffy.. each flavor is accurate to its label and doesn't just taste all the same. Cute store too

I wished I was a kid again when I walked through these doors. Although, I think I sort of transform into one, anyway. ("Ooo! Look at this one! Omigosh, they have *this* flavor? Awesome!") How can you not love a store with dozens of barrels of taffy? With flavors that you could only dream of? There are other assortments of candy, and some classics, as well. But I think the fun lies in selecting your own buffet of sticky, chewy goodness that is taffy. Great stop for families. Will keep the kids busy, for sure. read more

A great thing about small, beachtowns is their local candy stores. The Taffy Barrel is a perfect one. They only sell taffy, and they do it well. There are hundreds of flavors to pick from, with new ones being created monthly. The taffy is also chewy but not sticky, so no worries about finding a piece in your teeth two days later. The owner was a fun woman who was happy to help with any flavor suggestions as well. read more

Best salt water taffy around North America. Try all of the flavors. when you walk into the fine establishment, pick up a basket and fill it up to the top and enjoy during your time Up North. They have a nice selection of old school candies and gum as well. Friendly staff. 3 lbs of their taffy usually lasts me a few days give or take. read more

I do not like this store. There's just something about it. I went there once when it had just opened and was really disappointed. Everything is really overpriced and they charge by the half pound for candy that you can get much cheaper at Olsen's, Rexall, Glen's, The Dollar Tree... And you can get MUCH better quality taffy at Murdick's Famous Fudge for just about the same price. The only thing I liked about this place is they have some old fashioned gum that can be hard to find, plus they have some cute novelty candies. The atmosphere is kinda cute as well. *UPDATE* I've been to several other stores just like this one and they're all the same and charge the same price. This one does have a really good variety of Jelly Bellies, which are delicious. read more

The atmosphere is amazing and the options are abundant. There's so many jelly belly flavors and taffy flavors and all are enjoyable. i love coming here after work to enjoy some candy and saying hi to the employees. read more

Lots of old style, hard to find candies sold by the half pound but the real draw is the scores of flavours of taffy, both classic and oddball. You can find delicious egg nog that tastes like the real thing, oddly satisfying maple bacon and an oh so classic tasting myriad of fruit flavoured taffies. I was really thankful that they gave me a cheat sheet at check-out. My sister-in-law loves taffy, so we went in to grab her a few flavours when we saw the barrels in the window. I was shocked to see all the other barrels further in. It's sort of like the Taffy Answer to Jelly Belly jelly beans, which they have too by the way. I love Murdick's taffy as well, and the Taffy Barrel's carried taffy doesn't surpass them for handcrafted flavour, for one thing Murdick's is a totally different type of taffy, but they number of choices is amazing. Taffy Barrel's taste is great and has a chewier, less creamy mouthfeel then Murdick's taffy, again- different type of taffy. That doesn't make the Barrel's worse or better, just different. I, personally, got some of both. A big bag for the sister in law and some for me too. Also, a lot of the specialty, old fashioned candies that I haven't seen in ages. Oh, and it should be mentioned. I was in there for a half an hour and was asked at least four times if I needed help by several different people. Awesome staff makes it a great place to be too. You've gotta have cheerful folk in a candy shop! read more

A very old fashioned candy store that sells many varieties of Taffy. The taffy is Very fresh and soft. We have enjoyed eating what we purchased. We weren't actually going to purchase anything but just wanted to see what was inside the store. There was a guy at the door that invited us in and explained to us a little of the store and how to make a purchase. We felt very welcomed and appreciated the customer service. read more

This is a definite favorite for the kids whenever we're in town. I'm not a huge taffy fan, but they have a large variety of non-taffy candies as well. Almost all of the candy is sold by weight - just grab a basket and start filling. The selection is half the fun! This candy shop is definitely worth a visit. read more

Amazing selection of candy for our children. Too bad the female owner has a terrible customer service attitude toward customers. We had a stroller and the owner said "I don't think you should bring that in here." My wife asked "do you want me to leave?" The owner said "I don't care!" We bought our candy for our children but thought this needed to be posted. read more

Fun place! Very clean, cute, and well worth a visit. I love the big swinging barn doors when you first enter. We were greeted right away by two friendly workers who explained that the candy was all the same price ($4.45 per half lb.) so we could fill up our basket however we'd like. We ended up with a little over a pound of salt water taffy by going through the store picking out 1 or 2 pieces of each flavor. I would definitely return on my next visit! read more

"TaffyWalkin" Verb- pronounced: "TAF FAY WOK IN" Origins: CVX, MI - slang term used amongst local business owners referring to a strange cocky Frankenstein style of stepping strictly indigenous to villages of Northern MI immediately following a taffy sugar rush. Derived from the Polish/Latin word for :"ButtholeStrut" this specifically translates to the "lowest common denominator" act of (seemingly) be clueless to the fact that you made your 7 yr old daughter awkwardly drop her (ridiculously overstuffed) basket of goodies behind a barrel (because you assumed it was going to cost the same price as a sunset boat ride for the family) this coupled with the act of strutting out onto Bridge street like a Boss acting like you are deaf to the rantings of the staff as you depart, (making certain that your unconcerned self gets a clue that they are upset with you,,,.(they KNOW your touristy ilk, Man! They see it everyday!!) Meanwhile, the "taffy-walkers" lazily stroll amongst CVX flowered streets, stepping large and working that taffy gold.... Sit on a bench outside the store for a spell....terrific people watching. (oh yeah, a box of the popcorn is always good too.) read more

We bought $16 worth of assorted taffy flavors. About half of the pieces that we managed to eat were very hard. All of the flavors were very bland and we had a hard time telling what most of the flavors were. And when they say "salt water" they aren't joking, it's the saltiest taffy I have ever had. I would say we threw out 90% of what we bought. I would highly suggest trying before you fill a bag full and end up disappointed. read more

Candy! What's not to love? We walked out with a small bag - taffy, jelly-bellys, squirrel nut zippers - after having a pleasant conversation with the proprietor. read more

Wasn't sure I liked taffy until I tried a sample piece from the Taffy Barrel. Their taffy is super chewy and not at all sticky. Great selection of flavors and the taste matches the name 100% every time. Remember to grab a flavor guide so you can pick out the right flavor once you get home. read more

Hands down the best taffy. Soft, flavorful, and down right tasty. Will definitely be back soon.

The taffy from here is fantastic, however was very disappointed that their website directed me to send them a text for offers. I did and received an offer for buy a pound and get a half pound free. I brought my sister from out of state here and she went to the store website and completed the direction stated 5 minutes before going into the store. She also received the same offer. When we began our checkout process, the clerk informed us they no longer accept that offer. We explained that we had just received this text offer before coming in the store. They would not honor the text that we had received. Was very sad that I had told many people how much I liked this store and then to have them not honor their own texts read more

The Taffy Barrel has the best if everything: Great candy; huge selection; super friendly staff, and owners whose goal seems to be to create a clean, happy, smiling store where the customer is king. And their taffy has totally spoiled me for any other saltwater taffy.... It's that good! read more

This place is the best ever....The salesperson was extremely knowledgeable, and the flavors are so authentic, that whatever you try tastes like it's "real world" counterpart. There are so many flavors that it's hard to choose. We ended up with about 3 lbs. with a little bit of almost every flavor they had. Well worth the trip if you're anywhere in the area. Starting with and ending with, this place is the best ever... read more
