Great ice cream location as a refuge from the heat. We love Kilwins and this particular location in downtown, Petoskey, is no exception. There is a larger store on down the street with free parking and a large parking lot but after shopping downtown this was the perfect place to stop for a refreshing treat. Once you enter the door, the smell of chocolate hits your nose! Kilwins offers all sorts of chocolate you can imagine. As we walked in they offered us some fudge samples. The employee giving samples was super nice and inviting. No tours available but they do offer glass views of chocolate making in the process. We had never heard of this place but luckily when we were driving to our hotel we saw a huge tour bus by the entrance and I thought " whatever that place is, it must be special for a tour bus to go there"!! Boy, was that the truth! We have gone there two days in a row! Just walk through the entrance and inhale!!! It smells like chocolate heaven! We tried a few samples of fudge before we settled on three flavors! We bought milk chocolate covered "sea foam " which is like an airy brittle. So good! Both days we bought waffle ice cream cones. They make the waffle cones right there! They were still warm when they handed them to us. Only get one scoop but get two flavors! I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy the 10 pound chocolate bar to share with the family at Christmas!!! They have tours but we didn't do that this time. read more

I don't think this place gets enough recognition. Heather and Keaton helped us out while in the store. Both very friendly and knows a thing or two about customer service. This is what customer service was like 30 years ago. When you walk in the door, these two wonderful people greet you. They check in to see if they can help in any way. Truly an amazing experience! This Kilwins is a staple of P-town. This is a great stop to get some "Mackinac Island" Fudge. They sell a lot of it so it stays pretty fresh. They also have deals where if you buy a certain amount you get one slice free. They sometimes run out/don't have certain flavors though. Their other sweet treats are really good too. I rarely have a vacation in Northern MI without stopping in to a Kilwins for some goodies. read more

Wow, what a cool place to go. This is a growing Chocolate making company that originates from Petoskey. They give free tour guides, Dave was ours and he was great. We had a 4 & 2 year old and were asked if we wanted the accelerated tour, just thought it was cool they were thinking of us. The unaccelerated tour is 30 minutes and was a joy. The friendliness of everyone working there made it fun to be there and you get to learn about the company and some interesting facts. The ice cream was even in early spring (30 degrees outside) was phenomenal and you can only get it in there stores. For sure a great place to go in cold or hot weather. read more

First of all, been coming here for several years and have had nothing but positive experiences. However today They wouldn't do two flavors in a single even though they have done that multiple times before. Not only did they not do that, but they were rude about it. I also wanted a to go ice cream and asked to keep it in the freezer while I walked around and the rude teenage employees told me they "didn't like to do that." Then I payed and she did not hand my change back to me but proceeded to throw it on the counter. I believe this Kilwins is located in downtown Petoskey...anywho, the ice cream was delicious and a little pricey ($9.70 for one scoop cup and a two scoop in a cup), but the employees weren't as friendly as the other shop owners around. I wish I would've gone to the Kilwins down the street, where they normally have the chocolate tours. read more

One of the more expensive fudge shops you could visit in MI, but fun nonetheless. Staff was friendly and offer as many samples as you like. They even have a tour you can take, unfortunately we got there right after the last tour of the day started, bummers. It runs M-F until 330pm. They have everything from brittles and truffles to ice cream and caramel corns and, of course, the fudge. They had a good selection of fudge, although not the best from other fudge shops in town, and if you buy one pound (I think) you get another free. Very large and new shop and crisp and clean. A must visit if you like fudge samples! read more

We were also looking for sugar free options for my father and one of the staff walked us to the section to assist. The selection was great and the items we purchased were delicious! Probably one of the highlights of our trip to Northern Michigan was the Kilwin factory. I say factory because I'm not sure what else to call this place. There was a free tour that was guided by a rather entertaining older gentleman who clearly loved what he was going in retirement. The smile never left his face as we donned booties and hairnets to start the adventure. It was cool to see chocolates being made and the smell...amazing! When we got done, we were given a small free sample to get us all talking about what we would buy and almost literally inhale before we got to the car. The fudge being made was done by caring staff, who would talk to you through the whole process and you could get a few slivers of sample fudge before you decided to buy anything. Of course, we bought several slices to take with us and we left with a lot to talk about on the rest of the trip. I suspect that we will go back there next time we're in the area just to sample some more and get our chocolate fix of fudge for the trip home. read more

We signed up for the free chocolate tour, so we were able to go back in the kitchen and see the candy making a bit closer. Tour guide was friendly and informative and tour was interesting, though somewhat shorter than the half hour on the sign (but it was free, so no complaints here). We each got a free sample at the end as well as a coupon. Couldn't resist picking up several treats on the way out...the goods are somewhat pricey, but that's expected when you're buying this sort of thing. Everything was delicious!
