So of course we had to try one. We got a scoop of the turtle cheese cake and petoskey pothole. They were perfectly creamy and the flavor just bursted in your mouth. We also got a caramel apple for the little, they certainly weren't disappointed. The store felt like a blast from the past with an antique and classic feel. The service was polite, well organized and kind. I want to go back and try more ice cream flavors and fudge! If you're in town on a hot day, definitely stop in this ice cream store!

We have a tradition of stopping in after the parade on the 4th of July, with a line out the door both ways, and they are all still smiling even if it's 90 degrees from customers letting all the A/C out. The owner always works the holiday too. And I mean always, this is a 15-year tradition, and a great experience every time!

I recently stopped in on July 4th and picked up a dozen red, white and blue decorated cookies to bring to a friend's house that was entertaining. I found some with fireworks decorations and some with smiley faces. Needless to say, they were well received by the hostess and the guests enjoyed them. Even on a busy holiday morning, there were delicious looking donuts and baked goods, and the aroma brought back all kinds of emotions from my childhood too. Johan's is old school but that never goes out of style. Service was not the friendliest but it was not bad. You order at the counter and pay and you're out... easy peasy. While I took my cookies to go, there are some tables outside if you wanted to sit down for a few and enjoy your treats there. If you're in the area, definitely stop by Johan's for a tasty pastry (or two) and cup of coffee!

You can choose a cup or a cone, or opt for a milkshake or sundae. They also have a lot of different handmade chocolates and truffles, as well as packaged snacks and drinks. One day, I got birthday cake ice cream here (had chunks of cake and sprinkles in it) and another day I got the best gummy worms ever to take to the pool (they were SO good). There is a little ice cream window on the outside of the shop, but I'm never sure if we're allowed to use it, as no one is usually at that window. This spot is cute, but seems to slightly change identities each year. I'm sure it's hard to have a business in such a seasonal spot, but thanks for re-opening each year, as we alwaays look forwarad to going!

We all ordered one scoop of ice cream including the three children. I enjoyed my creamy salted caramel in a cup. The ice cream was creamy and tasty. My total bill excluding cash gratuity was $44.50. My family enjoyed their ice cream so much that they returned here again for more ice cream the next day. Few things get a 5 star rating from this guy, but Kilwins always does…read more Kilwins is a specialty chocolate shop with roots in northern Michigan. Don and Kathy Kilwin started the company some time ago and later sold it. New ownership later grew the company with franchises in many states, sprawling from Michigan to Florida and out west to Colorado. This particular location can be tricky to find as it's located inside the Hallmark store. During our visit, I found out this is one of two locations grandfathered to be allowed to have a store within a store. Specialty ice cream and chocolates and all so delicious. Try them all! Their specialty is Mackinac Island (Michigan) fudge, which are offered in several flavors. (Tip: Fudge is not chocolate so don't eat large quantity of fudge in a single sitting or you'll be sitting elsewhere with a rumbly in the tummy). Many Kilwin stores create some of their delectable chocolate products in store. You can watch them in action making in-house fudge or other treats. NOTE: Ever want to know what's made in-house and what is shipped in? Just search on products for the Kilwins label. If it lists an address for that local store, then it was likely made there. If the Kilwins label lists a city of "Petoskey, Michigan" then it was likely shipped in - but still delicious. Just know Kilwins chocolate is a little more expensive than your ordinary Hershey bar - but the quality is so much greater and well worth it!
