Our first time into this shop / cafe was not on a normal afternoon. It was right after the Ryan Shay miles had concluded. The store was SLAMMED and likely had been all morning. It's a reasonably large space, and well played out with gifts and edibles. Apparently their syrup must be loved to sell it in a 2 gallon size. lol We ordered a smoothie, a cold brew and a hand pie. Aside from it taking a long while to receive our order and the place being packed, everything was delish. 1 * subtracted only that the cost was over $30 with tip. A little steep. If we lived in the area, I can imagine this place becoming a semi-regular stop. read more

Very cute store with some good quality items. Stay away from the coffee. My wife and I ordered their maple syrup lattes and were not impressed. It tasted bitter and the milk was very foamy. Not only that but they charge $6 for a latte, $1 extra for their maple syrup, $1.25 extra for a milk alternative and $.25 for decaf. The barista was very kind, but I wouldn't come back for their coffee again. read more

When you walk by this coffee shop you're drawn in by the cute little boutique. They have in the front with cute little knickknacks to buy of local Charlevoix in Michigan Items, staff is nice however coffee is not the best quality if you are somebody who is really into a good roast, if that means it's not strong. They don't use the best milks. It is the shelf box milk so if you're picky about what kind of milk you get in your coffee, I definitely don't recommend. It seems more of a simple coffee shop, food options are also very minimal. They have what tastes like McDonald's parfaits without the fruit and some bagels one shelf's. Some pastries that look good. Hard to find good breakfast options when needing fast but healthy when in charlevoix. read more

Visited Hardwood Gold while staying in Charlevoix this August. Cute place but service subpar. Husband and I ordered iced tea which was just a tea bag in ice water for $11 for two. When we finished the tea I went to the counter with my empty glasses and asked if the person sitting at the counter could fill them with cold water and she said she would for $1,50 each!!!! It did not require new glasses just some water. Talk about terrible customer service. Never giving them our business again. read more

Charging $25 for a 16oz matcha latte and a premade microwaveable burrito is pure evil. Breakfast burrito was terrible and drink was mid. No amount of good ambience is worth this outrageous pricing. Would not recommend this place to my greatest enemy. read more

Got the 16oz iced maple latte. It was almost NINE dollars and that was just with normal milk, no extra nothing. If it had been amazing, I may not have minded paying that much but it was so mediocre. Couldn't taste the coffee and barely could taste any maple. After we ordered I also heard the girl making drinks saying she didn't know how to make it and was like learning how to make it on my drink so that was interesting. Cute inside and lots of cute things to shop for but will definitely not be back for coffee. read more

Harwood Gold - Maple latte - $8.69, bland and weak - Specialty Food Near Me - Charlevoix, Michigan

After a long hot, day of hiking in Petoskey State Park, we headed to Charlevoix to enjoy the town's offerings. We stopped in to grab a cold drink, and were about to buy some bottled lemonades when we saw their "smoothies". If you're expecting a traditional smoothie made with ice, this is NOT it. It's coconut milk blended with fruit (or whatever your drink comes with), and it comes out at just above room temperature. I got the green machine and my daughter got the Michigan cherry. Both tasted like fruity coconut milk, with no real distinctive flavor. The staff was nice and the shop is cute, but we were so disappointed that we spent $25 (yep, not a typo) on these drinks. I don't know the ounces but it was not more than 16. We tried to finish them but ended up only drinking about a quarter of the cup, and by then the ingredients were separating. Our mistake for buying such a drink at a coffee house. read more

The service and vibe of this coffee shop were incredible, however, the coffee wasn't great. I got an iced vanilla latte with oatmilk, the flavor wasn't great and the milk to espresso ratio were off for a latte. The muffin was delectable though and I loved the cute items in the shop for purchase. read more

I went to harwood gold on a gloomy Thursday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't super busy, and I had a pretty good experience. The meat pies were pretty yummy. They were incredibly hot and took a while to come out. Once they cooled down they were much better. I wish they were a little bigger but it was a great snack. The interior decor here was pretty cool! I liked the vibe, it felt northern and hip. The service was good too. No complaints from me! read more

My coffee was delicious. The store is charming. Great place to pick up local jams and maple syrup. Family business!

This morning I went to get a cute beverage before getting on the ferry to beaver island. Walked in at 7:59 and was the second one to order, ordering a smoothie. After waiting 15 minutes and watching no drinks be made, I kindly told the female working that if it hadn't been started it didn't need to be made because we needed to leave. I then asked if she could put the $12 I paid for a singular smoothie towards someone else's order since it was not made and she gave a snarky response and poor body language. While waiting the 15 minutes I watched her get on her phone, and only three coffees be made in the time frame. Such a cute establishment with so much potential. Such a shame that the start of the weekend away was greeted with such negativity. There are much kinder and calmer ways to communicate with customers and work more efficiently. What I witnessed this morning was not efficient or welcoming. Truly a shame. There was zero sense of urgency, a line out the door, and two workers who didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. read more

The baristas are very sweet, however, I came in for an iced latte and for the 16 oz (their largest size by the way) it was nearly 13 dollars with the syrups I'd asked for. The syrups look and taste very cheap, like the kind of coffee syrups you could buy for yourself at any grocery store, and the expresso was very watery instead of creamy. I also have a friend who worked there at one point who told me the pie warmer had been broken and she was told to microwave the thawed out pies to save time so customers didn't have to wait. The pies are good, but finding out that they arrive at the store to be frozen, thawed, and then microwaved ruined my appetite a bit. The whole vibe of the store is great, with lots of cute household items and ceramics, but everything was very expensive and I feel like I could find similar products for cheaper from people who actually make them. If you don't mind spending a lot of money on watered down coffee, then you do you. I, however, will not be stepping foot in here again. read more

What a great find on bridge street! Its relaxed and welcoming vibe was perfect for our light lunch. We orders a lamp hand pie and ham and cheese croissant. The lamb pie was tasty (I could have eaten another one). The "ham and cheese" in the croissant were very sparse. The pastry was good. I ordered the coconut iced chai, and my husband ordered the coconut caramel latte. The chai was delicious, but the latte was lacking the promised flavors, but tasted of artificial flavorings. Overall it was good, but not a total success. The one thing we were surprised about was the cost of our "light lunch". $38 before tip was a bit more than we expected. read more

LOVE at his place We had the brisket & veg and the lentil & veg pies for breakfast with a coffee and a maple & sage latte and we recommend all of the above! The pastry is perfectly thin but hearty- not soggy- and not heavy at all. It's like the lightest version of a lunch pie you'll ever find- except we ate it for breakfast and then went back to buy a frozen one to take home. The lovely woman working, seemingly alone, on Sunday morning is a barista whiz- lots of customers any she was whipping them out. (So tip accordingly) Also went back in for a bottle of coffee infused maple syrup (coffee beans inside!) and the cutest Charlevoix tote for a gift. This is our new favorite stop read more

Coffee is bitter, both the cortado and the caramel cold brew. Oversweet cold brew with not enough oat milk. Very pricey. $17 for these two drinks. read more

To start I must say the beef & mushroom pie was quite tasty. $12 for a meat pie is a little high but perhaps not too bad for a tourist town. Again it did taste good. However $9 for a bottle of ice tea is scandalous & possibly there are no prices anywhere in sight and the staff being ill tempered is probably the result of the egregious beverage prices. read more

I love a smooth espresso and had high expectations based on my daughter's good iced coffee last year. It was very expensive coffee tasting water . A plain oat milk latte: just awful. So weak and zero creaminess. read more

The meat pies are good but small and pricey. About the size of a small round donut and cost about $12. There's no display case showing you what you're going to get it. No prices listed. read more

We stopped here on our way through looking for a refreshing beverage. We got a salted latte and they literally just dump straight salt into drink and tasted like I was drinking right from a salt shaker yuck.... and we also got a chai and they way overfilled it handed it to me pouring out all out from the lid and was supposed to be cold and it was very room temp!!! super cute story with their farm and store front is sooo cute lots of local product homemade products would skip the cafe coffee shop read more

Hand pies are delicious. Super cute merchandise and atmosphere. Highly recommend the tumeric latte, too. Lovely view of Round Lake. Casual. Vegetarian and carnivorous options available. I had the lentil one, tasty indian-inspired spices. My friend had the beef and mushroom. We agreed the "pies" were tasty. read more

Cute coffee shop in Charlevoix offering a variety of beverages. Multiple milk alternatives and flavors available. There is a small gifty area in the front with maple flavored everything--syrups, trail mix, mustards, sauces, etc. Cute & fun atmosphere. Good place to get some work done as well. read more

Harwood Gold is the greatest coffee shop and restaurant in Charlevoix. It's gorgeous inside, like an old country store, no different than the kind you might find in Cape Cod. The people behind the counter are the best; the service is always efficient and friendly. The coffee is delicious. (My favorite is a cafe au lait.) I recommend Harwood Gold to anyone visiting Charlevoix. You won't regret it and be glad you did. read more

A highlight here is coffee but try their meat pies. Yum. We loved their lamb pie--we just took them home and heated them up. Perfect with salad and so convenient. Priced right too for a quality product with a homemade flavor. read more

Best latte ever and it was with almond milk! I had a cinnamon roll latte, sub almost milk and sugar free vanilla. My wife had a spicy mocha which was crazy good too! We also had a salad- ok, super healthy, nothing fancy and a beef pie which was amazing! Those lattes though. My goodness. Go here! read more

Excellent coffee and baked goods. We got an Americano, a brewed coffee, a protein bar cookie, a lentil pie - the pie was absolutely delicious. Coffee was very good. Protein bar was so dang good. Highly recommend. read more

Cute little cafe + store with all things maple Got a vanilla latte with almond milk + my partner got a regular latte and a breakfast hand pie. My coffee was probably one of my favorites that I've had so far in Charlevoix- creamy and sweet, but not overly so. I didn't try a pie, but Reid said he would definitely eat another one, in the future. They had a few other options for food, also. I grabbed some maple sugar cubes + a jar of maple pb. Will likely go back for a jar of maple black fig jam that I was eyeing.. and more coffee (of course) Plenty of outdoor seating too.. with some beautiful views of the water. Will definitely go back. read more

Meat pies are very good. The overall quality of the food and drinks are great. Although this part of the experience at harwood gold is pleasant, the service is not. It almost feels like an inconvenience to the workers to order and they almost act like they are unhappy. It's not like their unhappiness reflects in the quality of the products, but I would much rather have my coffee handed to me with a smiling face, rather than a distasteful attitude. read more

I waited for 20 minutes for a bagel just to have someone else take mine. When mine finally came out it was the wrong one and all she had to say was "oh". Very rude and expensive. read more

Hand pies are delicious, espresso is top-notch. Very glad we stopped here on our drive through.

$9 for a large salted Carmel cold brew that wasn't cold nor salted carmel flavored only salt. Seriously overpriced. Do not recommend.

I wanted to try another recommended coffee place in town so popped in today. Coffee was good, and I ordered the last meat pies for my family for breakfast (steak/vegetable and brisket/portobello). Both delicious - both tasted like beef stew. I grabbed the last egg/bacon pie to cook tomorrow for breakfast - was surprised it costs $40. After all was said and done, I left spending over $100. I would give 4 stars for the meat pies but for this price I may try another place. read more

Was visiting a family member in Charlevoix, MI and wanted some coffee while walking the downtown and looking at the shops. Saw a "cold brew" on the menu and knew that was the way to go...always a good decision. Well, unfortunately for me, the "cold brew" wasn't going to be brewed until April or something according to one of the girls behind the counter. The girl that helped me out was friendly btw, but the other girl seemed annoyed by my order. I settled for an "Americano" and what had been described to me as "just like it." I added pumpkin spice flavoring. In essence, the drink sucked. I poured 3/4 of it down the drain. See my review about Espresso Bay...now that was some good coffee! read more

Wife got a iced chai latte here last weekend. It was the best chai latte on earth. I don't know what they did. It was creamy, rich, and delicious. Did they stuff it full of narcotics? I don't know. But it was amazing. It has ruined all other chai lattes, and I will spend the rest of my life chasing that impossible perfection. Caveat emptor. read more

It's a cute shop/cafe but you know it's a bad sign when their prices are not advertised on the menu. This was my second time here. First time my husband and I stopped in before a hike to get iced chais in the summer. They were good but not much ice at all, they got warm very quickly. This time I came in by myself got a small hot chai (about 6$) and meat pie (almost 11$!!). It was fine but I was shocked to spend 17 dollars on a quick outing to read and relax. I probably won't be back, Charlevoix needs a bustling cafe with dollar espresso shots and simple menu. read more

On first glace this place seems a little pricey, but after tasting the quality and filling products I feel comfortable with what I spent. A friend and I stopped in on our way out of town... Decor/Atmosphere First, let me say, this place is SO warm and cozy. Was easily the most organized shop/bakery combos I'd been to in a while. Not to mention the view of the water. Food The pies... Wow, so hearty and fresh. I ordered the mushroom/leek pie and one of the premade salads. They brought the pies right to the table, piping hot. Overall If I were on this side of the state I would make time to visit. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Even offering a similar location on our side of the mitten! read more

I enjoyed my Latte so much! I also ordered a handheld meat pie. I had the chicken, leek, and mushroom. It was good too. I appreciated the flavors and concept, next time I want to try another flavor. The shop was a relaxing place to hang out for a while and enjoy our coffee. We met a local gentlemen that made our visit extra enjoyable. read more

The shop was adorable. However the pastries and bagels tasted like they were bought in mass quantity from Costco. We threw ours out. I also ordered a sweeter iced green. It came out hot. I kindly asked to switch it out for an iced, and she slid over a cup with ice and poured the steaming hot tea into it. It was just a melted mess. Disappointing as we were visiting out of town and wanted to explore. read more

I ordered a 16oz "Organic" Earl Grey tea, there this morning . It came with one Bigelow tea bag in a cup of hot water. Apart from being one of the cheapest and inferior teas you can get , it was not organic and clearly tea bags are apportioned for an 8oz cup of water, (see the brewing instructions on the box) therefore two tea bags are required if you serve a 16 oz cup... I asked for second tea bag and asked why they advertise in the board that they serve organic tea... they don't! To be fair it's really hard for us yea drinkers in the USA.... I wonder how coffee drinkers would like ordering a 16oz cup of coffee and they get only 8oz of coffee and the rest is hot water. There would be war I bet!!! read more

This shop is adorable! We had lunch here which included a variety of their meat pies (and a veggie one) and drinks. The atmosphere is inviting and they use old mismatched china which is a sweet touch. The pies were really good-would definitely go back and splitting a few kinds with others is a nice way to go! Good place for gifts as well-they well tea towels and a variety of syrups and related goods. We did find their syrups etc. for sale in other shops (in traverse city) for cheaper than the store however). read more
