Our first time into this shop / cafe was not on a normal afternoon. It was right after the Ryan Shay miles had concluded. The store was SLAMMED and likely had been all morning. It's a reasonably large space, and well played out with gifts and edibles. Apparently their syrup must be loved to sell it in a 2 gallon size. lol We ordered a smoothie, a cold brew and a hand pie. Aside from it taking a long while to receive our order and the place being packed, everything was delish. 1 * subtracted only that the cost was over $30 with tip. A little steep. Very cute store with some good quality items. Stay away from the coffee. My wife and I ordered their maple syrup lattes and were not impressed. It tasted bitter and the milk was very foamy. Not only that but they charge $6 for a latte, $1 extra for their maple syrup, $1.25 extra for a milk alternative and $.25 for decaf. Got the 16oz iced maple latte. It was almost NINE dollars and that was just with normal milk, no extra nothing. If it had been amazing, I may not have minded paying that much but it was so mediocre. Couldn't taste the coffee and barely could taste any maple. After we ordered I also heard the girl making drinks saying she didn't know how to make it and was like learning how to make it on my drink so that was interesting. After a long hot, day of hiking in Petoskey State Park, we headed to Charlevoix to enjoy the town's offerings. We stopped in to grab a cold drink, and were about to buy some bottled lemonades when we saw their "smoothies". If you're expecting a traditional smoothie made with ice, this is NOT it. It's coconut milk blended with fruit (or whatever your drink comes with), and it comes out at just above room temperature. I got the green machine and my daughter got the Michigan cherry. Both tasted like fruity coconut milk, with no real distinctive flavor. The staff was nice and the shop is cute, but we were so disappointed that we spent $25 (yep, not a typo) on these drinks. I don't know the ounces but it was not more than 16. We tried to finish them but ended up only drinking about a quarter of the cup, and by then the ingredients were separating. I got an iced vanilla latte with oatmilk, the flavor wasn't great and the milk to espresso ratio were off for a latte. This morning I went to get a cute beverage before getting on the ferry to beaver island. Walked in at 7:59 and was the second one to order, ordering a smoothie. After waiting 15 minutes and watching no drinks be made, I kindly told the female working that if it hadn't been started it didn't need to be made because we needed to leave. I then asked if she could put the $12 I paid for a singular smoothie towards someone else's order since it was not made and she gave a snarky response and poor body language. While waiting the 15 minutes I watched her get on her phone, and only three coffees be made in the time frame. Such a cute establishment with so much potential. Such a shame that the start of the weekend away was greeted with such negativity. There are much kinder and calmer ways to communicate with customers and work more efficiently. What I witnessed this morning was not efficient or welcoming. Truly a shame. I went to harwood gold on a gloomy Thursday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't super busy, and I had a pretty good experience. The meat pies were pretty yummy. They were incredibly hot and took a while to come out. Once they cooled down they were much better. I wish they were a little bigger but it was a great snack. The interior decor here was pretty cool! I liked the vibe, it felt northern and hip. The service was good too. No complaints from me! read more

My coffee was delicious. The store is charming. Great place to pick up local jams and maple syrup. Family business!

The baristas are very sweet, however, I came in for an iced latte and for the 16 oz (their largest size by the way) it was nearly 13 dollars with the syrups I'd asked for. The syrups look and taste very cheap, like the kind of coffee syrups you could buy for yourself at any grocery store, and the expresso was very watery instead of creamy. I also have a friend who worked there at one point who told me the pie warmer had been broken and she was told to microwave the thawed out pies to save time so customers didn't have to wait. The pies are good, but finding out that they arrive at the store to be frozen, thawed, and then microwaved ruined my appetite a bit. The whole vibe of the store is great, with lots of cute household items and ceramics, but everything was very expensive and I feel like I could find similar products for cheaper from people who actually make them. If you don't mind spending a lot of money on watered down coffee, then you do you. I, however, will not be stepping foot in here again. read more

What a great find on bridge street! Its relaxed and welcoming vibe was perfect for our light lunch. We orders a lamp hand pie and ham and cheese croissant. The lamb pie was tasty (I could have eaten another one). The "ham and cheese" in the croissant were very sparse. The pastry was good. I ordered the coconut iced chai, and my husband ordered the coconut caramel latte. The chai was delicious, but the latte was lacking the promised flavors, but tasted of artificial flavorings. Overall it was good, but not a total success. The one thing we were surprised about was the cost of our "light lunch". $38 before tip was a bit more than we expected. read more

LOVE at his place We had the brisket & veg and the lentil & veg pies for breakfast with a coffee and a maple & sage latte and we recommend all of the above! The pastry is perfectly thin but hearty- not soggy- and not heavy at all. It's like the lightest version of a lunch pie you'll ever find- except we ate it for breakfast and then went back to buy a frozen one to take home. The lovely woman working, seemingly alone, on Sunday morning is a barista whiz- lots of customers any she was whipping them out. (So tip accordingly) Also went back in for a bottle of coffee infused maple syrup (coffee beans inside!) and the cutest Charlevoix tote for a gift. This is our new favorite stop read more

To start I must say the beef & mushroom pie was quite tasty. $12 for a meat pie is a little high but perhaps not too bad for a tourist town. Again it did taste good. However $9 for a bottle of ice tea is scandalous & possibly there are no prices anywhere in sight and the staff being ill tempered is probably the result of the egregious beverage prices. read more

Harwood Gold is the greatest coffee shop and restaurant in Charlevoix. It's gorgeous inside, like an old country store, no different than the kind you might find in Cape Cod. The people behind the counter are the best; the service is always efficient and friendly. The coffee is delicious. (My favorite is a cafe au lait.) Meat pies are very good. The overall quality of the food and drinks are great. Although this part of the experience at harwood gold is pleasant, the service is not. It almost feels like an inconvenience to the workers to order and they almost act like they are unhappy. It's not like their unhappiness reflects in the quality of the products, but I would much rather have my coffee handed to me with a smiling face, rather than a distasteful attitude. read more

My coffee was probably one of my favorites that I've had so far in Charlevoix- creamy and sweet, but not overly so. I didn't try a pie, but Reid said he would definitely eat another one, in the future. They had a few other options for food, also. I grabbed some maple sugar cubes + a jar of maple pb. Wife got a iced chai latte here last weekend. It was the best chai latte on earth. I don't know what they did. It was creamy, rich, and delicious. Did they stuff it full of narcotics? I don't know. It's a cute shop/cafe but you know it's a bad sign when their prices are not advertised on the menu. This was my second time here. First time my husband and I stopped in before a hike to get iced chais in the summer. They were good but not much ice at all, they got warm very quickly. This time I came in by myself got a small hot chai (about 6$) and meat pie (almost 11$!!). It was fine but I was shocked to spend 17 dollars on a quick outing to read and relax. I wanted to try another recommended coffee place in town so popped in today. Coffee was good, and I ordered the last meat pies for my family for breakfast (steak/vegetable and brisket/portobello). Both delicious - both tasted like beef stew. I grabbed the last egg/bacon pie to cook tomorrow for breakfast - was surprised it costs $40. After all was said and done, I left spending over $100. Was visiting a family member in Charlevoix, MI and wanted some coffee while walking the downtown and looking at the shops. Saw a "cold brew" on the menu and knew that was the way to go...always a good decision. Well, unfortunately for me, the "cold brew" wasn't going to be brewed until April or something according to one of the girls behind the counter. The girl that helped me out was friendly btw, but the other girl seemed annoyed by my order. I settled for an "Americano" and what had been described to me as "just like it." On first glace this place seems a little pricey, but after tasting the quality and filling products I feel comfortable with what I spent. A friend and I stopped in on our way out of town... Decor/Atmosphere First, let me say, this place is SO warm and cozy. Was easily the most organized shop/bakery combos I'd been to in a while. Not to mention the view of the water. Food The pies... Wow, so hearty and fresh. I ordered the mushroom/leek pie and one of the premade salads. They brought the pies right to the table, piping hot. I ordered a 16oz "Organic" Earl Grey tea, there this morning . It came with one Bigelow tea bag in a cup of hot water. Apart from being one of the cheapest and inferior teas you can get , it was not organic and clearly tea bags are apportioned for an 8oz cup of water, (see the brewing instructions on the box) therefore two tea bags are required if you serve a 16 oz cup... I asked for second tea bag and asked why they advertise in the board that they serve organic tea... they don't! To be fair it's really hard for us yea drinkers in the USA.... I wonder how coffee drinkers would like ordering a 16oz cup of coffee and they get only 8oz of coffee and the rest is hot water. There would be war I bet!!! read more

This shop is adorable! We had lunch here which included a variety of their meat pies (and a veggie one) and drinks. The atmosphere is inviting and they use old mismatched china which is a sweet touch. The pies were really good-would definitely go back and splitting a few kinds with others is a nice way to go! Love this cafe, the atmosphere, a maple tasting bar and aussie pies, can it get more unique then that? The products for sale in this establishment come from a nearby farm. There products are so good, maple syrup with vanilla, or rosemary and other one of a kind combinations. This is a great place to relax and read or just take in the local scene of what this region of the country can provide. The pies were great and the coffee is good as well. I hope this cafe stays around for a long time. If I were to give one critic it's that the price is a slightly high, but that would not stop me from going back again. Hope we can go back again sooner rather than later. They had books for the boys and crayons so that kept them busy. All in all this is a cozy, stylish hip place to have a bite and try something that isn't the norm for a coffee/cafe. read more
