Taco w/meat (Top: Pastor, Middle: Barbacoa & Carne Asada), Shrimp Taco (bottom)

I've always passed by a Taco Stand location and kept meaning to try it. I came here on a Friday night and was immediately surprised because I didn't know what to expect. This place serves authentic Mexican tacos, not Americanized versions. The music was playing Spanish hits by Selena, which created such a great vibe. If you're looking for a sit down experience instead of a taco truck, this is the place. There was plenty of parking, the service was very kind, and the restroom was clean. As for the food, it was incredibly delicious. The corn tortillas were fresh, and the portions were generous. They were not stingy with the protein at all, so it definitely felt worth the price. The most flavorful tacos were the pastor and shrimp tacos. The pastor meat was especially tender and juicy. Overall, this will definitely be my new go to date spot whenever I'm craving tacos.

Jiroo is an absolute professional! Top notch customer service and very personable! Had a very minor issue and he took care of it! I will add this, it's better to get the tacos fresh! Using door dash isn't the same experience or Uber Eats. Food: every taco was made fresh and full of flavor. The Carne Asada that was amazing. The pork taco was good as well. The Barbacoa was phenomenal. The breakfast tacos were amazing. The salsa were good too. I want to say the tortillas are homemade because everything was phenomenal. This is a great location, you gotta love the drive-through. I love that you can place an order drive-through pick it up and go on your way. Parking is always tough in this side of town so the fact that they offer drive-through was a huge plus! I will definitely come back. This will be one of my go to places for tacos in the future. Excellent customer service and great food! Thank you Jiroo.

Definitely go with corn tortilla! There's an entire sauces station on the side which is much appreciated, just wished for more flavor in the shrimp/carne asada tacos I got. The fried fish taco became soggy on the flour tortilla.

I have been waiting for this Taco Stand on Westheimer to open for quite some time. I finally got a chance to try it today when I shopped at my favorite thrift store - Out of the Closet. I walked across the street with 2 friends. As we walked in, I immediately noticed the easel sign promoting Negro Pozole. In this freaking cold weather... hell yeah. I wanted some hot soup. One of my friends ordered shrimp and fish tacos. The other guy ordered a fish taco. The dining room felt crowded as so many stools blocking the aisles. We were there after 6 pm on Saturday. The place had a few customers. The wait was kind of long. We waited 15 minutes to be exact. That's when I noticed so many things wrong. My soup was room temperature. Disappointed. My friend got 2 fish tacos on a tray. The other guy got one shrimp taco. They were polite at that time as why they didn't tell me. I also asked for a receipt when I placed the order but the cashier walked away after the register was closed. Because I got distracted after I joined the rewards program and got $7.60 reward for next time. I completely forgot about it until another customer asked me how much I paid for mine. I truly didn't know because I should have a receipt. Ugh. This restaurant is new. There are many kinks need to be worked out. Like we literally wasted 2 containers of pickled carrots. Because me and my friend only wanted to try one piece. We had to take the individual containers for each of us. My other friend actually took our leftovers with him. I wish there was a better way handling it.

Originally ordered a to-go order but had a meeting cancel, so I asked if I could sit at a table. The weather was nice so I opted for a table outside and the TVs and breeze did not disappoint. The location is near a bus stop so there's a steady stream of traffic outside of it, but it isn't distracting. I ordered the gringo burrito with chicken and beef and it didn't disappoint. And I loved the habanero and jalapeno sauces.

Service wasn't bad. The taco however was dry as #%^*! This is my second attempt here. Not worth it.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The entire experience was disappointing from start to finish. First, it took an unusually long time to place our order. When our food finally arrived, it was completely wrong. We informed the staff, and while they said they would fix it, we ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for the tacos we originally ordered. The food itself was not worth the wait. The tacos were extremely greasy, and one of them was missing the grilled onions that were supposed to come with it. The corn in a cup was also disappointing it seemed to be mostly water with very little actual corn. Overall, the restaurant seems very disorganized, and the quality of the food did not meet expectations. There are plenty of authentic taco trucks and local spots that offer much better food and service. Unfortunately, I won't be returning and cannot recommend this place to others. Save your time and money.

Carne asada supreme burrito, chips come with dine-in order but not to go

Newest location in my neighborhood, the drive thru is key for me. I think they're open til 4am on weekends. These are not the best tacos in Houston. For me it's convenience and it's pretty good food. They have the variety-agua frescas, salsa station, chips and queso tacos burritos quesadillas etc I was here for the first time after 1am during the Halloween Montrose pub crawl so opinions a bit skewed but my burrito was good. I only ate half of it, such a big portion. Service was quick and easy. But I have had Taco Stand sober many times too, Heights location! (Also with the drive thru model) This location has a full parking lot I think, in addition to a good amount of of patio/inside seating. Their business concept is open space, not an enclosed building per se. This group is expanding a ton in Houston- Burger Joint, Taco Stand, Happy go lucky (snow cones) and The Pizza Place coming soon too.

    Mark W.

A new fast casual concept from the team behind Burger Joint. When we first got there, I notice the handicap parking is all the way in the back and I did not see a ramp, it was after I made my way to the restaurant that I was able to explore a bit and discover the ramp is on the other side of the restaurant, is on the side that faces the street Mulberry St. If they spent some more money on marker the the ground on painting a walking pathing leak from the handicap spot to the ramp, it would be nicer. You order at the counter and you pick up your food at the counter also. They have a big patio seating here. The food is reasonably priced. First the meat for the tacos are great but the corn tortilla is not fresh made, it taste like pre-made from a factory tortilla. The green salsa is spicy! I love that they have a drive-thru and they are open early for breakfast and you can order ahead of time on the app.

Brisket, egg, cheese and refried beans
    Sherrie C.

I placed my order at the drive-thru and sat at the window for about 5 minutes, just on my phone, thinking they were finishing it up. Then I realized no one had even come to the window. I finally tapped my horn, and a guy came over and said the lady was bringing my order. When she did come, she explained she was the only one there handling the front, drive-thru, packing orders, everything. At that point, I honestly felt a little bad and apologized, because I thought maybe I hadn't been patient enough but realistically, it just seemed like I had been forgotten. Now... let's get to the food. The tortillas? Fresh. Like really fresh--definitely the highlight. But everything inside? No flavor at all. No salt. No pepper. No seasoning. Nothing. I had brisket, egg, cheese, and refried bean tacos--and somehow, all of that combined still tasted like... nothing. The tortilla carried the entire meal, but I had to trash it.

    Juan P.

Service long wait there was about 3 cars in drive thru when I went and only one other couple ordering at the same time. My wait for a burrito and one taco was about 25 min terrible . The burrito had a little bit of meat it had more beans and rice than anything else, the taco had a lot more meat tasted better . Ambiance was calm only about 6 people once I left . Taco stand is ok not on the top places to eat at for me and this is exactly why .

Pescado taco, they forgot the pineapple.
    Jennifer T.

I got the shrimp taco and the Pescado taco. They were both extremely bland and I definitely will not get again. My son got the picadillo and it was cooked down so much that it tasted more of a chili than anything. I did enjoy their queso and chips and my husband enjoyed their Barbacoa . It's great that they're open late in the middle of the week when you're not wanting fast food but the food is just mediocre IMO.

How my food was packed. Not appetizing

Drive though took over 25 minutes The young lady that took my order was rude They were out of queso When I finally got my food the bag was falling apart because it was packed poorly

Inside it is a one room eatery with counter service. My first visit was to try the Birria Burrito for $16 with the meal delivered about 10 minutes later. It consisted of their Birria meat cooked for 4 hours mixed with chorizo, cheese, rice, beans and sour cream all wrapped in a large flour tortilla seasoned with their special red colored seasoning. With the meal came a cup of consomne'. Guy Fieri would say, Welcome to Flavortown! It was delicious. The Birria beef was so tender and the flavored flour tortilla with that proprietary red seasoning they use was perfect. It was a very filling meal and well worth the price. So much so, I thought about it the next day. Another visit was to try one of their specialities, the Quesabirria for $14. This meal consisted of 3 grilled and crispy corn tortillas seasoned again with their special red colored magic dust. The tortillas had the delicious Birria meat and cheese inside and I again loved them. The tortillas are only slightly crispy and the meat, cheese and tortillas memorable. This meal also came with a cup of consommé for dipping. Another nice thing about eating here is the customer service. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful. The guy bussing the tables acted more like the owner than an employee with his helpfulness and the actual manager came out to check on us. Impressive for a counter service restaurant. Tacos Dona Lena deserves its reputation as one of the best restaurants of its kind. Incredible food and employees all at very reasonable prices. I love that they give radishes, cucumbers, and plenty of limes on the side. I definitely love all of the toppings and the more the better! The churros came with classic condensed milk and dulce de leche which is just carmelized condensed milk. The churros were crunchy and warm on the outside and had a chewy texture like mochi on the inside! Super yummy and not too sweet! I liked both sauces and would definitely get this again.
