Got macarons for my wife for Valentine's Day and she loved them. The quality is undeniable.

If you live far from Oxnard, CA, like I do, you can find them at Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market, Bistro & Seafood Market located within the Farmers Market at the Grove on Fairfax, located on 3rd Street in Los Angeles, CA, near the Palazzo and Park La Brea apartment complexes and the Holocaust Museum.

In case you missed this: http://www.yelp.com/list/the-great-socal-macaron-throwdown-los-angeles-2…read more Whether or not "Food Item A" is better than "Food Item B" is generally a matter of personal preference. We all have varying degree of taste. Most reviews are written based upon our limited exposure, and therein lies the dilemma particularly with regard to the Parisian Macaron: Does one rate based upon limited knowledge and what's relative to personal likes and dislikes? OR...Does one rate based upon accuracy and adherence to authenticity? Guilty as charged, I have written reviews based upon limited exposure and preferences on a myriad of food topics, but when discussing the macaron, I would like to believe I speak with some authority, however, I respectfully defer to Fia R. who I deem Queen of the macaron. While performing a macaron search for the Los Angeles area, yelp returned a curious business with a 4.5 star rating: Les Macarons Duverger...in Echo Park of all places! Finding out the hard way that LMD (reference henceforth) does not have a "Brick and Mortar" storefront or physical address to refer to was frustrating. The address associated on yelp was erroneous and refers to a business that at one time sold these macarons but discontinued their sale. LMD is based out of Culver City, CA. The discovery of Monsieur Marcel at The Original Farmers Market as a local reseller excited me. MM was close enough and I didn't have to wait for a particular hour of the day at a given location just to try these macarons. My desire to try their freshest offerings prompted me to email LMD. Their swift response highlighted the fact that MM receives deliveries twice a week and that their supply is indeed fresh. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4DgEBxFNn7JtKKNc9830Ig?select=-QM2NdY8EjcZ-EHAODuzRw The purchasing power of your $19 yields one dozen macarons of a variety of flavors. Among the flavors included: (2x) Blueberry Lavender, (2x) Vanilla, Pistachio, Raspberry, Praline, Chocolate, Passion Fruit, Coffee, Pumpkin Pie, Salted Caramel. (For the record, LMD's macarons are not as vivid as my photo depicts. The linked image above was captured with Pro HDR and manipulated. They are much more pale in person.) My review can be summed up in a single word: Disappointment. ***BEGIN USELESS RANT*** Attention yelpers who rated LMD 3+ stars: You have NO idea what an ideal macaron is...especially if you claim to have tried 'Lette Macarons and likewise claim LMD's to be better. 'Lette's macarons are the closest you will find to an authentic Ladurée macaron here in the Southland (and the west coast for that matter). So to all the inexperienced macaron enthusiast who gave great ratings, here's a hint...great macarons ARE NOT brittle and dry as these. ***END USELESS RANT*** LMD's fragile macarons were anemic with paltry ganache fillings sandwiched by parched cookies. Refer to photos below: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4DgEBxFNn7JtKKNc9830Ig?select=ctOMJkvF_AqNwY4ly3XfIQ http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4DgEBxFNn7JtKKNc9830Ig?select=oJOsgOJ_hpffazLrc97x3A http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4DgEBxFNn7JtKKNc9830Ig?select=d8neatJbJ_WhagVXIBU5Yg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4DgEBxFNn7JtKKNc9830Ig?select=S5IyLrDnzwZYC952HICtGQ Blueberry Lavender: 2.5/5 Vanilla: 2/5 Pistachio: 2.5/5 Raspberry: 1/5 Praline: 1/5 Chocolate: 4/5 Passion Fruit: 1.5/5 Coffee: 2/5 Pumpkin Pie: 1.5/5 Salted Caramel: 2.5/5 Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Pistachio were the only macarons with a moist cookie (thank heaven). They were, however, not exempt from the same issue of exiguous ganache. As I conclude this review, please let it be known that it is my sincerest desire for LMD to succeed and prosper. It is imperative that adjustments be made because in its current state, LMD's macarons are inferior and disastrous. Please correct your technique and be generous with your ganache filling. 1.67 stars (rounded up to 2)

When I was there, it was mid afternoon (before closing) so it was calmer all around. I love their pastries, but the recent price increases do make them a luxury item. Kouign Amann are my fave, but any of their croissants are also great. Had a Hot chocolate at the Camarillo location, and they even had a little latte art in the milk foam. Server was much more talkative and friendly because it wasn't crowded when I went. In general I felt a friendlier warm vibe compared to Ventura location, but either one is great for classic European vibe, and great pastries.

It's a casual & cute cafe that always hits the mark and we love seeing their growth all over the 805. I stopped in for an iced matcha and decided to try something new and I'm so glad I did. Huge kudos to Ashley for recommending their breakfast crepe (not something I'd normally order, but WOW was it good). BREAKFAST CREPE: A fluffy crepe filled with soft, melty brie, eggs, bacon, arugula and tomatoes, absolutely delicious and so well balanced. I'd get this again in a heartbeat. 10/10 ICED MATCHA: Washed it all down with a sweet iced matcha, just how I like it...lightly sweet, a little creamy, and still packing that earthy matcha flavor. 8/10. Definitely a great location in the heart of old town camarillo. Nice staff, clean interior, cozy vibes and good food.

Let me just say, I'm a big fan of Frost It!…read more My hubby & I started coming here for their amazing cupcakes when they opened. Quickly, we became regulars. I can't even name all the flavors that we fell in love with, but red velvet, lemon, strawberry, salted caramel & chocolate peanut butter just to name a few. We were sad when we found out that they were transitioning from a cupcake store to a by-appointment cake shop, but I understood why. My husband & I vowed that when we got married, we would use them as our wedding cake baker. So, when we decided in July 2015 that we were getting married, we set out to make an appointment in a few months. Our appointment was scheduled for June 2016. Our friends who were visiting us, one of them was a bridesmaid, came with us for our cake tasting. My bridesmaid also paid for our wedding cake as a gift! I was blown away at such an extravagant gift ($800+)!!! We ordered for a 3 tiered ombré cake based on our wedding colors... sapphire, emerald & turquoise. The cake was supposed to be sapphire on the bottom tier & slowly transition to emerald & transition to turquoise. The flavors we picked were lemon, white velvet & chocolate. The cake was beautiful, but not quite the ombré cake I was expecting. There wasn't a seamless transition in color, which is what ombré cakes are known for. The flavors were right, but were not on the their assigned tiers. I didn't bother to complain as we were already on our honeymoon when we realized that our cake contract didn't match the cake we actually got. The cake was beautiful & delicious, so I didn't care at that point. Unfortunately, many guests didn't get the chance to even try out me cake as the cake cutting didn't happen until much later in the night & it started to get very cold. The venue saved most of our cake & we took part of it to eat with our of town family leaving the next day. They all commented that it had been one of the best cakes they've tried. So, nonetheless, I was still happy with the cake, even with the mistakes & that is my reason for 4 stars & not 5. Check out their Instagram page, you will get a much better idea of the kind of cake artistry they are capable of. Beware, you'll get hungry looking!

They used all of our reference photos and delivered the exact cake we expected. Not to mention how delicious and moist the flavors were!
