This was my first time at the studio and I will definitely be coming back! I was very nervous because I have thick, curly hair and I have a hard time finding a stylist that I feel actually listens to what I want. ANGELA. IS. MY PERSON. She was so thoughtful and friendly and I enjoyed talking with her as much as I enjoyed the time and care she put into my hair. She made sure to talk me through everything that she was doing and asked me for my preferences all along the way. First, the decor is very unique, posh and rusty is how I'd describe it, next.. parking is not a problem at all, most of all, Courtney is really great at what she's doing. She knows the balance of letting her client relax and also talking to you like your girlfriend. She did an excellent job with my hair, she asked me questions like "what do you like about this color?", when I showed her a picture from pinterest. She asked me if I wanted the highlights from the roots or sort of fading, she even asked if I don't mind her curling my hair to style it.. nope! Go ahead girl! Getting ready for a weekend trip, I went in for a hot shave. Nichole was patient as I was 30 minutes late. Despite the 2 texts reminder and emails I got. She was pleasant and completely took good care of me. The hot shave was soothing and very relaxing. I almost fell asleep in my chair... lavender scents and all :) I'm an alpha male who appreciates high class, "affordable high class". PROS all of the girls are soooo nice! we negotiated a great deal they were flexible with my constant changes they dedicated the entire salon to my party for no extra charge they listened to what we wanted and tried their best to get it done CONS my bridesmaids' hair took longer than expect and they did not schedule enough time for us none of their curls held and went flat before the ceremony even started a different process was done to my hair that wasn't done during my trial and it also went flat ADVICE make sure everyone gets a trial so that you know exactly what can and cannot be done and in what time frame (give yourself extra time) make sure everything from the trial is exactly the same Overall, I was happy with my makeup and somewhat happy with my hair (I wish it would have held for longer). My bridesmaids however, were very unhappy that they paid $60 for how their hair looked like when they woke up. read more

I am extremely picky with my hair, which more people should be. Next to your face, it's the second (or first) thing people see and it really can make or break any outfit you may be spending your paycheck on. It's easy to find a passable stylist. There are plenty of good ones. It's hard to find great and exceptional ones and Oceanside is lucky to have the Swank Studio--I live in Los Angeles and come here. Why would I waste my rent money for a haircut in LA when I can get a better one here? The atmosphere is awesome: free coffee, hot chocolate, great products, fantastic jewelry and apparel, and very well trained stylists. From hair coloring to blowouts to men's shaves and barbering, it truly has it all. It's not pretentious or stuffy, it plays great music, and the clientele are all down to earth. Just got a cut from Nicole who's awesome and Minh, the owner, is amazing as well--though these days she takes on less clients as business is booming here as it should be, I was lucky to get a same day appointment. Men, time to stop going to supercuts and random barbershops and treat yourself well. You aren't in junior high or high school and it's time to move on from that local place your mom took you to since you've been in elementary school--nostalgia's great though a well styled, professional haircut is better. The name days it all....Swank! From the decor, the personalities, and all around vibe defines its name. You would never think to find this gem in an apartment complex but you'll be happy you did! I went in for a trim with Courtney and she was very thorough about what I needed and wanted. I think every girl is weary about someone new cutting their hair but she made me feel very comfortable. I made an appointment with Angela based on Yelp reviews. The salon is on the smaller side, but is cute and airy. Angela took me right on time and offered a beverage. She is very sweet and easy to talk to. As I have curly hair, she asked about my hair care routine and agreed I had a bad Deva cut (somewhere else). I didn't want another Deva cut, so she cut my hair wet. It came out great. The price was fair also. I will definitely go to Angela next time I need a hair cut. read more

ANGELA is an awesome hairstylist!!! I've been a client of hers for over a year. I've had nothing but great and amazing results with her. She's professional, she gets to know her clients and makes you feel comfortable. We clicked right away. I've never felt as comfortable with a hairstylist as I have with her. I tell her an idea I have and she works with me to achieve it or she gives me an even better idea. I am a curly client of hers and she explained (AT OUR CONSULTATION) how she would be cutting my hair and the results and what to expect. Do your research of getting a legit curly cut so you know what to expect or at least have an idea. You get at least two reminders about your upcoming appointment, which gives you the opportunity to confirm it. Also, if you're setting up a consultation, you should go to it. That way you have time to discuss what you want and if you want to continue on with the haircut. Angela does everything she can to work with you. If you don't do your part, don't be all upset if something doesn't go your way. There's time set aside for what you set the appointment up for. If you decide you wanna add something else to your appointment, then COMMUNICATE ahead of time. (THEY HAVE CLIENTS OTHER THAN YOU AND A LIFE). If you want your hair done right and in a non rushed manner (because she takes her time with you), I suggest Angela. I found this salon from yelp reviews, and made an online request (love that option) for Nichole. I booked it for a balayage ombre but she also fit in a hair cut (which I needed). The cut looks great, the color was very nice, and I was very happy with my experience. The price was good, and I would absolutely come back for another visit. I wanted a low maintenance look, which was somewhat tricky since my hair already had a lot of color/dye in it. She did a great job balancing the colors out. I've jogged past this studio SO many times, so I finally went in for a haircut! Made an appointment with Megan for a cut and wash, and I love it! I don't do much to my hair, I probably get it cut MAYBE twice a year. I definitely needed a trim since I'm growing it out, and it was like she barely took anything off. It's still long and I love that. All the dead ends were removed, but I still have the length! I said just an inch or two, and that's exactly what she trimmed. Other times the stylist won't listen and will make one inch into FOUR and you leave with short hair, and that BOTHERS me so much! Luckily this wasn't the case! WOO HOO! I originally came to her after looking for a stylist who had received the Deva haircutting training as I have curly hair and Deva techniques and products are specifically designed for curly hair. She listens to her clients needs and desires and does her best to combine those ideas with what is practical and will translate well to your specific hair. Erika texted me immediately and i sent her a picture of my hair and pictures of styles that i liked as well as highlight options. When I went to salon she took her time during the consultation. I'm fully aware that my hair texture and face shape may not be the same as the models of the pictures I sent and I let her know they were just references. I completely trusted her judgement and I was rewarded by it. Erika explained what she would do with my hair and even asked several times if I was sure, giving me the option to change my mind before she did anything, which I found reassuring. I loved the results. The highlights blend beautifully and look natural, she managed to cut my hair in a shorter style that would look well regardless if it's styled or if I wear it with the natural wave. I received the BEST haircut from Irene a few weeks ago. I've been living in the greater San Diego area for two years now. I went to the "top" salons in Chula Vista and NorthPark San Diego and had the WORST haircuts in my life. Being a transplant from the East Coast with a stylist of 10+ years, I felt like I would never find someone out here. I saw the great reviews about the salon and gave it a shot, fingers and toes crossed. I communicated with Irene that I wanted just a few inches off but to also give her opinion on what would be best for my hair health. She washed my hair and began cutting. I have NEVER experienced someone being so attentive to detail, gentle, and informative on a cut before...I was shocked. The thing that impressed me the most was the communication on the under cut of my hair and her making the extra effort to make sure it was perfect. I turned to Yelp to help me find a good salon since I had just moved to Oceanside. Swank Salon was one of the highest rated and after reading reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. I called early between 8-9 with no answer, later found out they don't open until 10. I got an appt with Megan, who I really wanted to go to after reading all her positive reviews. She lived up to her reputation and more! She's very friendly and knowledgable. She asks what you'd like, and gives her input so she can add her own "little flair" into your cut and color. I'm happy I took her input because it turned out amazing! My color was so pretty and had lots of dimension on it, the colors blended so well together. The cut was great too. I'm happy I was able to start a new relationship with a great stylist! The place is very cute and modern. The products smell good and leaves hair feeling healthy. Erica is awesome! Not only did she provide me with exactly what I wanted, in regards to cut and color, but she was so easy to get along with. When you're sitting in a chair with a stranger for 3+ hours, you can only hope that you can easily get along with them, and not have elongated, awkward moments.
