Without hesitation our guide immediately recommended the Old Thatch Tavern. First of all, it is centrally located and easy to find. Once there you're taking by the decor and homely feeling. The staff were amazing. I wasn't drinking hard liquor and they guided me through a variety of Apple ciders that were delightful. They made the entire experience 1000% better. Their advice and knowledge really made the stop one of the best drinking experiences we had in England. Little by little more members of our crew continues showing up and eventually we had a full blown part going. Again, it was a blast! I can't wait to go again, make a stop at the Old Thatch Tavern and relive some of the memories.

It was 10.25 on Wednesday evening, February 25th, but we were turned away by the young barman, as he said he had already called last orders and wasn't letting anybody else in. Now, my husband and I were very disappointed, as everywhere else in the town had been so welcoming and accommodating. We walked across the road and had a few drinks in another bar, as there are plenty of nice places to choose from, BUT, if I was the owner of this establishment, I would not be best pleased at young bar staff turning my customers away. That is a lot of revenue to lose over the year if this is happening every night, especially with the cost of living at its current high and the daily struggle that pubs face to stay profitable!! Maybe a bit of staff re-training wouldn't go amiss and a reminder of who pays the wages!!

They were just not very gracious about seating us or making us feel welcome. We were walk-ins and felt like second class citizens from the moment we arrived. They offered us a table in the back we didn't like and requested a specific table in the front room but we're told it was "taken" (but remained empty the whole time we were there). They finally moved us to the empty patio but said "we need this table back in one hour." The server was unable to offer any suggestions, instead saying "everything is good." As for the food, my wife had oysters which were fantastic. I had the burger, which was a pile of meat of every kind on a soggy bun. They simply tried too hard with a burger. When I asked to have the sauce on the side, they said that I could have it "on or off" but not in the side. They'd bring me ketchup and mustard on the side. Strange rule... Ultimately, we probably didn't try enough of their food to make an overall comment that n food quality, but in terms of service, they have a long, long way to go even if their food is spectacular.

Started with grilled foie gras and a fried egg, which was a good combination (the toast was a little chewy so I bypassed it). As a main, I had crispy pork belly and better than I expected. For several days, I was craving crackling and I assumed this would have some. Not only did it, best crackling to meat ratio I have come across, fantastic. Only disappointment was the crispy noodles were non-existent, though the Asian salad was also good. For a dessert had cherry clafoutis (or something like that), which was like a warm cherry cake served in a hot pan. Fantastic.
