A good option for sushi if you're at liberty station. They are pretty busy for a small corner space. Wait time can be anywhere from 15-40 mins. The counter employee does inform you before ordering. The sushi rolls are well balanced in flavor. Menu pricing is in the higher end for some classic items. I ordered 3 salmon rolls and a California roll for my kids. A Kuro sushi pop for myself, a tequila sunrise and fresh prince for everyone to share. It was right under $80 for everything.

Was excited to try this place. Came in on a Monday evening, there were a few orders ahead of me and was informed of a 25 minute wait. Ordered the Kuro push pop (Krab, Tempura Shrimp, Panko, Sesame Seeds), and received the wrong one. Instead, I got the Kirro (Salmon, Avocado, Cucumber, Yellow Tobiko). Pretty disappointing, since I'm not a fan of raw salmon.

I came in here to try the viral sushi push pop and it was good! Not necessarily worth the hype, but it was fun, for sure. There was a loooong line and the it seems like they were understaffed. One guy making the rolls and one guy at the register. It's definitely fun, and trendy though.

Fun to get a sushi pop but the sushi itself is very mid. I've had better sushi from the grocery. Also the woman working there wanted nothing to do with customers. I asked for wasabi and chopsticks and she looked at me like I shot her dog. It's the only place around with sushi pops so I get the hype but hopefully better sushi places will start to have them.

The Sushi Stand This placed looked good so we decided to hope in line and get a roll. The line moved kind of slow and the display of sushi didn't have much inside so they were pulling sushi out from other coolers. The boy who took our order didn't really have any hospitality or inviting feeling, he was just there to take orders. We ordered the Salmon Nigiri and the What's Poppin Roll. What's Poppin was a pretty decent roll, not the best I've ever had but it was fried nicely without cooking the salmon inside which I liked. The salmon nigiri was a little too slimy and tasted like the ocean, not in a fishy way but not in a good way either.. I would honestly pass on this place, if you're craving good sushi, I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to the public market for it.. it was a Saturday when we came so you would expect the sushi to be freshly caught but I don't think it was.. Good but not great sushi.. I will skip it next time..

First time at Liberty Public Market? It was for me, and my culinary compass was spinning out of control- until I caught a glimpse of The Sushi Stand. The Sushi Stand is, well, a sushi stand that sits (stands?) at one corner of the massive 22,000 sq ft food hall. With clean aesthetics and an eclectic menu, it instantly stands out from its many competitors. Rolls are made to order so wait time is expected but reasonable and worth every minute the second you unpackage. Lined parallel along the edges of a rectangular box, the presentation of the two rolls was arresting. The Beef Roll (shrimp tempura, seared beef) and Black and Yellow (spicy tuna, seared hamachi) were both sumptuous. Details like truffle aoili and seared lemon slices on the rolls, respectively, underlined their best flavors. I'm not sure what stall I'll end up at next time I'm at this market, but The Sushi Stand sets a high bar. Sitting at the corner doesn't mean you're unimportant. Conversely, sometimes, it means that you're a cornerstone.

Went for the infamous sushi pop! Great concept, but it's just sushi in a push pop. Service was great, sushi was made to order, so was a bit of wait. Got to look around the market and come back. Expensive for it to be in a push pop. a whopping 18$! but i guess you're paying for the vibes of eating a push pop sushi

One of the many stalls within the food halls of liberty station but a good one. You can order any sushi roll as a sushi burrito which is what I did with the salmon avocado roll. I found the fish to be fresh and of good quality. Service was quick and with a smile and they had my order ready within about 5 minutes (when I went there wasn't much of a line). It's tucked away in the corner and has a few communal seats in the area like the rest of the food hall.

Every time I met liberty market, I always go to the sushi stand. It seems like it's always the same guy that works there and he's so nice. I always order the cucumber salad and California rolls and they are delicious. I can't speak to the ambience because I don't eat near the sushi place. I usually eat in a different location, but I'm sure it would be cool to eat around there.

Surfin' USA Roll

I absolutely adore Liberty Station Public Market & I decided to grab a roll from The Sushi Stand tonight. I opted for the Surfin' USA ($18.50)-(Krab, Shrimp Tempura, Avocado, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Sauce, Spicy Mayo, Fried Shallots, & Negi) It also comes with sesame seeds but I'm not a fan, so I asked the chef who took my order not to include them. The roll was freshly prepared in front of me and it was ready in about 10 minutes. I brought it home & was delighted by the aesthetic presentation of the roll. I also appreciated the sturdy paper box with sliding cover, little paper cup for my soy sauce, the wasabi & fresh ginger. The Roll: in a word... Delightful! It went down my gullet like butta. The flavors were fresh and smooth. This was an incredibly enjoyable treat! Sushi Stand has quite a few roll options, onigiri, poke & more. You will not be disappointed if you try The Sushi Stand! Notes: Indoor & outdoor seating throughout the Public Market Area, tons of parking, it can get very busy on weekends!

Surprisingly great... one of the best I've had. The rice was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of sticky. The fish was fresh and not too fishy. The ginger was fantastic. And the customer service was great. The sushi chef was on point and pretty fly for being a white guy. If I lived here I would definitely come back lots

Worst service, tried to rush us and didn't even take our full order, food was only just meh, not worth the price...

Liberty station has the Sushi Pop!!!! It was fresh and delicious, due to the heat we ate in the car with AC blasting. Service was fast and friendly. Go check it out!

I've heard incredible things about Azuki Sushi and have been wanting to try it for the longest time. We arrived right at opening without a reservation and were seated almost immediately. The sushi bar is intimate and cozy, and we loved being able to order directly from the sushi chefs. We started with the toro sashimi, followed by Spanish mackerel nigiri, and finished with an incredible roll (I wish I remembered what we ordered because it was that good!). Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. Azuki Sushi and their staff truly exceeded our expectations. If you're a sushi lover, this place is a must-try! I couldn't recommend it more and would absolutely encourage anyone who appreciates great sushi to add it to their list. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Well,…read moretechnically, I made a reservation while we were driving around looking for parking, so we got a little lucky there. We were a small party, which probably helped. We ended up seated upstairs, and the space was adorable. I tend to gravitate toward traditional Edomae-style nigiri, where the focus is on the quality of the fish, the rice rather than a lot of bells and whistles, aka sauces. But I also appreciate a creative roll when it's done well. We enjoyed the Bonsai roll, with its crunchy taro and sweet potato. We also had the salt and pepper karaage, eggplant, otoro nigiri, hotate nigiri, and vertigo roll. The drinks were tasty, too! While I enjoyed our meal, I wasn't completely blown away. That said, I do think it's hard to judge a restaurant based on one visit because not all dishes are created equal, and maybe I just didn't order the right things. Overall, Azuki is a cute little spot in a nice area, with a variety of offerings and good drinks. A pleasant sushi outing, and I wouldn't mind coming back to try a few other things on the menu. Next time, I'll remember to take photos and I might let the sushi pros guide my ordering a little more!

I loved that crab was used in multiple dishes, like the warm dish and soup. I wish the nigiri was bigger in general, on the smaller side compared to other spots. My first impression of the restaurant was, it was beautiful restaurant with a counter that seats 14. First off, Chef Maru and his entire staff was absolutely fantastic and professional. They were all attentive on refilling water and tea. Chef Maru himself was absolutely awesome, he explained each course that was served. Which was the right way to do it. Omakase: Omakase 20 pieces at $180. It's a great price, but in my head there had to be a catch to it. The starter and appetizer started out strong. Everything (fish) were all fresh, so when the nigiri course started that's when everything went south. The nigiri that chef served was really small and it's not your standard size nigiri .There's barley any shari ( sushi rice) and fish. If felt like I was sampling each nigiri. You can't really enjoy it when it's that small. The only highlight was the Uni from San Diego. That felt like a month full, other than that everything just felt like a tease. Don't let my photos fool you, it was all zoomed in. My wife and I had many omakase before and lelf happy and satisfied. This was the first time that we ever left after an omakase meal and was still hungry and a little disappointed. I would love to give Sushi Maru more stars but I just can't after this vist.

Soichi is tucked away in a little neighborhood between North Park and University Heights. It's a tiny, intimate restaurant with just a few tables and seating at the sushi bar. When we arrived, the hostess greeted my friend by name and even asked about her husband. I thought that was so sweet and knew we were in for some great hospitality! We sat right in the middle of the sushi bar and ordered the omakase tasting. Our server was great and let us try three different sakes before deciding which one we wanted. Chef Soichi was so warm and friendly, and I really felt taken care of the entire time. The fish was seriously melt-in-your-mouth incredible. I loved the appetizers, and everything was seasoned perfectly. After the main course, we were still a little hungry, so we ordered an extra hand roll with uni, tuna, and salmon, and OMG it was soooo good! For dessert, our server recommended the white sesame ice cream, which I absolutely loved. Another really sweet moment was when Chef Soichi pulled out his guitar and serenaded guests who were celebrating their birthdays. How cute is that?! I also got to chat with him and found out he's from Yokosuka, Japan, where my husband is currently stationed. I'm actually visiting next month, so he gave me some fun recommendations on places to check out while I'm there. Such a nice personal touch! There are two omakase options: $145 or $165 with additional nigiri. If you're worried about leaving a tasting menu hungry, get the nigiri. I lost count of the courses and was completely stuffed by the end! The highlight was getting to try fish I'd never even heard of and some genuinely creative flavor combinations. You do need to be an adventurous eater--think oysters and fried shrimp heads--so it may not be ideal for someone hesitant about seafood. There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.
