I already spotted items that can be used for gifts for friends. Take a look and check it out.

Gifts for all, from babies, brides, adults, card players, wine themed gifts for wine lovers, hair accessories, loud, personal safety alarms, pillows with clever sayings, artwork, practical gifts, AND LOVELY GREETING CARDS FOR ALL OCCASIONS....to everyone else...something for everyone! I had the great pleasure of meeting one of the owners-what a delight, Leigh Anne was welcoming and so kind and helpful. Fine customer service does certainly exist here :) And, complimentary gift wrap for items purchased here! Also, a gift wrapping service available for a fee, for items not purchased here. A few months ago, I had seen a NY1 news story on TV, featuring this lovely, small gift shop, and I knew I had to visit. I loved an item shown in the story and I wanted to help support small businesses, so I finally made it over to this gem of a gift shop. It's like a hidden secret, for those in-the-know, because ...You won't actually see inside the shop from the street level. See my photos, and you'll see the folding board sign with arrows letting you know where the entrance is on EAST 53rd Street, between 2nd and Third Avenues....walk down a few metal steps, and follow the arrows, to this very special gift shop. And, if you're wondering what item brought me to the shop, it is the very popular, fantastic umbrella that LOOKS LIKE A WINE BOTTLE!!! It is NOT GLASS. The umbrella is housed inside what appears to be a wine bottle. It is a very well-made umbrella, with great quality spokes. There are wonderful colorful designs. I have a royal blue "bottle case" with dogs and cats, love it!! Everyone who sees it LOVES it!! Such a clever umbrella!! And, I bought another in colors of brown, black, cream, with a black/cream houndstooth design. There is a great selection, and no surprise, this item is one of the most popular gift items. I gifted myself! You can too! Who deserves a gift more than you today?! And price points are quite reasonable. Gift yourself!! LOL I also bought 3 hair clips, and I'll be back to buy a few more. The quality is very nice. I used to have very long hair, to my knees, so I'm particular when it comes to hair accessories, I'm looking to make sure the edges on the clip are finished, not rough so that it does not damage my hair. I was so happy to find an assortment of various sized clips. Nice quality. And I didn't have to hunt for them in various drug stores or other specialty shops. Years ago, the best clips were made in Paris, France. These days, you can find nice quality hair clips in various shops. How convenient that I found some good clips here. I'm writing this September 2025, and my best advice for those who may celebrate birthdays, and holidays with fun gifts, visit this shop. If you keep a gift closet , stop in here, for sure. And if you have space to keep just one gift on hand for unexpected situations, then come here, and buy the clever wine bottle umbrella, because it is the coolest gift for a man or a woman. FOR HOLIDAY SHOPPERS--start now, it's okay to start slowly, but start, and then, by December, you will be done with your holiday shopping. And you will have less anxiety, less stress, and be calmer each day. :). And for 2026, buy a gift a month, and you'll be all set by the 12th month, and you won't have big end of year gift bills. LOL. It can be your NEW PLAN FOR GIFT-GIVING. And less stress. And much more fun!! Start here, start now. Enjoy! There is lots to see in this wonderful gem of a gift shop. Have fun!

There are three John Derian shops in a row, mostly with similar themes. My first review was…read moreconcerning their famous Christmas ornament extravaganza, which was fun, but overrated. The ornaments were overpriced and the store was overcrowded. I saw the store mentioned in another New York guide and decided to give it another try. This time was a lot more fun. No crowds. No one huddled around miniature Christmas trees. Things here are pretty expensive. Not out of the realm of the middle class or upper middle class, but this is no affordable vintage thrift store. That being said, there are some very fun things here for people wishing to build a whimsical home. Fun glassware, tableware, lamps, tramp art. Furniture, but let's be honest, you can find the same slub velvet pieces in thrift stores for much less. This was a cool place to enjoy design and how to arrange store displays. Kookie things like stuffed animals. Colorful textiles. A big mix of inventory, from older looking stuff to more modern. Maybe a bit of an old country English vibe. Employees were nice, though a little reserved. Which I honestly appreciate when employees aren't pushy, but let you know they are available. A fun place to peruse, buying or not, and very instagrammable.
