The Stockade Inn is in a great location. It is charming, well priced, clean and comfortable. It is not a cookie cutter run of the mill hotel. It is historic and lovely. If I have to voice a complaint, it would be that the hall lights are a too bright and the light comes in under the door to the room. Aside from that, it is delightful and I will stay again. Communication with the host & staff was terrific too. Graham's coffee shop in the building is also convenient and excellent. read more

Our family planned a Memory Lane trip led by Linton High School 1964 grad Tony Rotundo who grew up asa Union College faculty kid on Seward Place. He's also a historian so we got a lot of local history plus trips to Gershons deli, More Perreca's, and Cornell's. We loved the hospitality and beauty of the historic Stockade Inn where great breakfasts and coffee can be had. We will come back when they have their bar and fine dining up and running. The elevator is a converted closet type. They have a leak somewhere and the smell is pervasive throughout. The glasses in the room were not clean. It was quaint, but not lovely. Yes, it has free parking. In Kentucky there is an amazing historic hotel in Berea south of Lexington, The Boone Tavern. Unfortunately while I would like to compare the two, there is no comparison. The Boone Tavern is a gem, tucked away, and splendid. I wish I could say the same about the Stockade Inn. We were the only people there except perhaps for one other couple. I would not go back to the Stockade Inn. read more

If you're looking for a cute little quaint place to stay for a night or two definitely stay here. The staff, John and Zakhar are wonderful people. They were so nice and accommodating. We only stayed for one night for a wedding near by. We wished we could've stayed longer to walk around this charming town. If you are in Schenectady definitely stay here. Comfortable, charming, beautiful historic building, accommodating owners, yoga classes on site, and an all over peaceful, warm experience. I am used to staying at the usual traveler hotels for frequent business trip and this was over the top homey and warm. I loved walking around the neighborhood which felt safe and easy to navigate. Don't miss this. Unless you prefer chain hotels and the smell of disinfectant to history, real wood floors, comfortable bedding and privacy......highly recommend! Where do I start? The Stockade Inn is truly a magnificent experience. The staff is incredible. We have learned that they have all worked together loving the Inn for over a decade. I'd been here for dinner a few times while growing up and always liked it. It always felt so cute and fancy but not uncomfortably so. So when I was on the phone with my parents discussing wedding location possibilities, this was the first we all suggested. We set an appointment to look at it even tho my parents and I were convinced after looking at the wedding packages. But since the husband is from New Mexico and the wedding was going to be on my turf, he had to approve it too. He immediately loved it and we settled on a date and a place all within a week and a half of getting engaged. The entire time the staff (Jeff, especially) was so helpful and so willing to take our questions. Everything was what we had hoped for and it was so great to have the ceremony and reception in the same place. As well as having a bunch of our friends and family staying in the same hotel as we did the night of the wedding. I will still come here for dinner and I will always recommend The Stockade Inn for any wedding I can attend. Oh, and the bridal suite is very nice but, VERY dark, even in the daytime, so don't plan on being able to take many pictures up there while getting ready. We visited the Inn this week for a wedding. The first floor, and staircases are beautiful. The architectural details are absolutely stunning and I loved the layout. My friend's wedding, held in the Inn, was perfect. Plenty of room to spread out and we could easily sneak upstairs to our room for a breather. We set appropriate expectations for our room- as it's a historical building and they try to maintain its character, furnishings are comfortable, but not modern. We did appreciate the free WiFi, tv, and desk. The bathroom needs a little help from a cosmetic standpoint. No place to hang a hand towel, wiggly toilet, missing tiles, etc. The shower was hot and the lighting was good, so we tried to overlook it. We were frustrated with two aspects of our room. Despite cranking the AC all the way down, our room was a sauna. We were incredibly uncomfortable all night. Opening the windows did not offer any relief. The mattress was also unbelievably firm and uncomfortable. Despite the quiet (we didn't hear a peep even though there were wedding guests surrounding us on all sides) we didn't sleep at all. We did love the staff. One of the servers at the wedding became our best friend and made sure to make her first stop at our table during cocktail hour. There was never a line at the bar, and everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working at the wedding. Even though we slept like garbage, we thought this place was sweet. My friend picked a gem of a spot for her big event. I think we just got a bum room- maybe that's our fault for booking late? read more

Invariably it is the kind of inappropriately, shrieking loudness that prevents any real conversation and would be more at home in a drunken college bar. Only place to stay when visiting Schenectady. The history is amazing.From a bank to a private home, to a school to a gentleman's club, there is so much that took place here which adds to the character and atmosphere. Each room is unique, and the accommodations are perfect. Anything you need, it is either in the room or a call away. It isn't overdone, in a good way, in that it maintains its character by being original and historic, not trying to be trendy or out of reach with their patrons. The staff is amazing, and there is a very nice bar/restaurant with live jazz too. Highly recommend checking it out! read more

A grand and charming historic landmark in Schenectady's stockade. It's curb presence is stunning and the interior is equal and properly appointed. Walk in and you are greeted with a beautiful staircase, to the right seating jazz type area and also cozy bar area with more seating. The staff is very accommodating and the food was very good. Expensive, great menu choices. Nice option of APPS in the bar area, which is attractive other than smelling of very old stale cigar smoke! Dining room is formal and sparse. Great service.Beautiful presentation. Delicious crab bisque with large chucnks of crab in it. Too bad, one piece of crab tasted amoniated- otherwise I would call it perfect. The lobster mashed potatoes are chock full of pieces of lobster meat- wonderful. Delicious side of sauteed leeks- very flavorful and savory - with white wine and thyme. There is no skimping on portions here. We were suprised with how huge the entrees were, and the piece of excellent fresh coconut cream pie for dessert could have fed 3 people! My one (and common complaint )is that the chef is too liberal with the salt. Unfortunately, my husband suffered from a very upset stomach the next day, but I was absolutely fine and would return. read more

WOW! Words can not even begin to explain how wonderful our stay was. We were traveling for work and found this hidden gem. We truly felt like we were staying with family. The room was very clean. It was updated but did not loose its classic 1910 charm. Bed was very comfortable with a view of the Dutch church across the street. The staff was very warm and welcoming. Christine was always available to answer any questions while making you a great cup of coffee. The bartender/server Paul,salt of the earth kind of guy, always served up amazing food with great conversation. Always with a smile and a welcoming charm. The Chef is spectacularly talented. The menu although small offers a great selection. The surf n turf bruschetta was some of the best food I have had in 20 years of traveling. It was a close tie to their lobster BLT. Even if you don't have the time to stay in the exquisite Inn, I highly recommend you take the time to stop in for a warm conversation and a bite to eat. read more

I stayed at the Stockade Inn for one night this weekend, attending a reunion held there. I had never been inside the building. Located in the heart of the Stockade, the neighborhood atmosphere is quaint and pleasant. My bedroom was on the third floor. The building is not "updated" - older windows, other fixtures. But, the room itself had everything I needed: a comfortable bed, free wifi, a spacious bathroom with basic amenities. The event I attended was catered by the Inn - the food was tasty, plentiful, and the waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay there again. read more

My husband and I have lived in Niskayuna for 2 years and finally have made it to the Stockade Inn for dinner. We have read and heard both positive and not so positive reviews, so we were a little skeptical. We were very pleased with our experience, Our waitress, Nina was excellent. The meal is presented at a slower pace, We do not like to be rushed from one course to the next , so this was perfect for us. I am sure if you let them know ahead of time that you are on a schedule, they would adjust this for you. We started with the poached lobster salad, very generous with the lobster! I enjoyed the Parmesan encrusted sea bass, and my husband the fillet with lobster mashed potatoes (YUM). For dessert we shared the coconut cream pie. This is different than what you may be used to, it reminded me more of a cheesecake consistency. I found it to be better than any coconut cream pie, I have ever had. My husband who is an expert cappuchino drinker, said Nina made one of the best cappuchinos he has ever had! We were very pleased with all aspects of our dining experience. We ended the night in the lounge at the bar for a few drinks. Love the atmosphere in the lounge and the bartender is wonderful. We will certainly be visiting again. read more

If I was able to give this awful establishment zero stars, I certainly would. I mistakenly booked a room for the wrong weekend. After calling to attempt to rebook for the weekend I needed it, I was told they were completely booked, which I understood. I then asked if I would be able to cancel my booking and receive a refund. I was told by hotel management that I would need to correspond with the website which it was booked on. I did just that, but the website was unable to contact the hotel management after trying for multiple days. Once finally getting in contact with the hotel, I was then told that the hotel wouldn't be giving me my money back. I did everything I was told to do, jumping through hoops, and was still stiffed and unaccommodated by this horrendous hotel and its vile management. I'm extremely disappointed and wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. read more

I got married in the Stockade Inn about a year and a half ago. Cory, who planned the event, was amazing. He was accommodating, calm, and didn't miss a beat. The food was wonderful, the ceremony and reception rooms were perfect, and they even put together centerpieces when the florist delivered them unassembled (Surprise!) to keep the bride from melting down. I have only two negative things to say. I was on a high floor in a gorgeous room the night before so I could get ready on site. There was NO hot water for my shower. I let it run for nearly 30 minutes and it never got hot. Then....my wake up call never came. Luckily I was already awake. I suppose the bottom line is the restaurant is great, the catering and service top notch (and surprisingly affordable), but the Inn could use a bit of work. It's impeccable in appearance, but hot water and a wake up call would have made the experience perfect. read more

In short, the most disgusting room I've ever had the displeasure of staying in. Within 5 minutes of getting into my room I was ready to leave. Not before taking pictures of the millipedes (bugs) on the walls, the dirty comforter on the bed with a hole in it, the dirty bathroom floor with missing tiles, the stained carpet, and the ratty broken windowshades that couldn't be closed. Perfection! The service, drinks, and FOOD are amazing! We came here on BUSY, BUSY Valentine's Day eve. I was immediately surprised and impressed by the friendly staff because we were seated early. Our server, Joanne, was wonderful, prompt and very friendly. She went out of her way on a busy night to get my husband (a history buff) literature on the building's history. If she doesn't know the answer, she finds out and delivers. We never had to wait long for anything from her on a busy night! :) The drinks were perfect. My husband had the best martini he's ever had (and he has had many!). I had a perfect apple martini and a great glass of wine. Their beer and wine selection is excellent. We never had an empty glass thanks to the prompt and friendly staff. :) The bartender knows what they are doing! The food...AMAZING...there is no other way to put it. We started with a crab cake and salad. We were full at this point because the portions are generous and incredibly delicious. Who would have thought a crab cake and caesar salad could be so flavorful and perfect? Although we were starting to get full, we could not turn away from our delicious entrees. I had the cedar planked salmon that was cooked to perfection. It was served with a delicious sauce and comforting risotto. This is a moderately priced restaurant, however, it is worth every penny. We paid three times as much at Glenn Sanders at a previous dining experience; however, the quality/portion of the food, service and ambiance does not hold a candle to the Stockade Inn. This is our new favorite! We will be back and I highly recommend anyone to try it! read more

We wanted something a fancy so we decided to try this place. We have been here for party's but not for dinner. We were not disappointed. I had the lobster salad which was very large. It had a ton of lobster on it and the dressing was perfect. Just enough. I also had the sea bass...... yummo!!! Done to perfection. My boyfriend got the pork shank. It was very large and had tons of flavor. Service was fast and friendly. It is a great place if u r looking for a place for a special occasion. Dinner after the theater. What a beautiful old building. This place used to be called The Mohawk Club (The Lower Club) It is beautiful. Our dinner was very nice. The waitstaff is very attentive and our food was good. I would love to be closer to be able to eat here more often. I think it is a great place to have a special dinner. I hope to plan more dinners here after our shows at Proctor's. it is a great way to spend an afternoon and evening. read more

I got married here in October and I couldn't have had a better experience. As soon as you step inside you'll be blown away by how pretty it is. The rooms for the ceremony and the reception are gorgeous and not like most cookie cutter ballrooms. They really provided a very elegant and romantic setting. The inn rooms are also beautiful. Each one is different so my out of town guests had fun going from room to room to see what the decorations were like in each one. My husband and I really enjoyed the honeymoon suite, it was beautifully decorated. The food was exceptional, especially according to all the guests. As the bride, I missed out on most of that. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees were all really well cooked. That's a pretty amazing thing to properly cook 85+ meals that need to be out at basically the same time but they did it. No overcooked dry steak or fish for us. The service is top-notch as well. The bartender, waiters, and all the other staff was just a pleasure. I want to get married there all over again! read more

We were looking for a clean, reasonable property somewhat close to the new Rivers Casino and Saratoga Race Track, so we chose The Stockade Inn. What a hidden gem. Located in a residential neighborhood, the Inn is clean and loaded with history and charm. Our room was beautifully appointed, quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was newly remodeled and ample. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. A continental breakfast is included and was perfect: delicious coffee, an array of tea, muffins, bagels, cereal, yogurt and juices. A wonderful small hotel in the sort-of-charming Stockade district. Large, beautiful rooms, fantastic bathrooms and a nice bar/lobby. A minuscule, ancient elevator might suggest using the stairs if you're claustrophobic. But that's a picky point; just a really nice, old-fashioned hotel. read more

I just had my wedding at the stockade inn this past weekend. Everything was absolutely perfect. Their attention to detail is incredible. They set up our center pieces, laid out our favors, decorated our cake, kept the entire evening in schedule, and even saved the top layer of our cake for us without us asking. The food was incredible, and everything looked stunningly beautiful! I'm a fan of this place because they are the nicest bar within walking distance in the Stockade Dist. Live music one a week at least, comfortable seating, private rooms, good capacity, and the owner is most often on hand-always a good sign.
