Views and vistas of the river and the manicured grounds were memorable, made doubly so during the splendid explosion of autumn foliage colors! Solid 5 stars. Even the water infiltration into our bathroom caused by a roof leak due to the two days of nonstop rain couldn't detract from the overall experience. Day one was waffles, bacon, and fruit. Our second and last day led us to a nice quiche with sausage and homemade crumb cake...drool. Preston took the time to sit and converse with us while we are and made a real effort to get to know us. We loved hearing some of his stories about the house and about the area. I highly recommend the Lewis house as an alternative to pricier chain hotels in downtown Saratoga and as another option to camping or staying at a motel. You will not be disappointed.

In the morning we served the best breakfast: day 1: homemade Danish with blueberries, fresh fruit, bacon, muffins, and eggs! Day 2: Apple cinnamon waffles, apple slices, and sausage. Mr Lewis and his wife were so friendly and made us feel right at home. He cut me fresh pussy willows from the garden to take home. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The Lewis House is walking distance to the village of Ballston Spa and about 10 drive to downtown Saratoga Springs and the racetrack. We will def be back for racing season!

We stayed in the Inn by the Mill last weekend and found it to be absolutely delightful. It was very…read moreeasy to miss while driving (which we did the first time), but it's isolation only adds to the charm. Upon driving in, we were almost instantly met by Judith who welcomed us and led us into the Grist Mill to register. Now I'll admit the Grist Mill is old and shadowy and certainly somewhat creepy inside, especially the use of a mannequin is a flower filled bathtub, and if I had to sleep in there I'd keep a flashlight on, but the oddness grows on you. After check in, Judith's husband Ron got hold of our ear, and boy can he talk! He's full of wonderful stories, but if you and your spouse don't have some kind of signal to give each other to get away, you'll be with him for an hour. Judith led us to our room, which is in the Mill house. The place is decorated in country style, and feels welcoming and comfortable. Beware the extremely steep staircases to the second floor. We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub which had the most powerful jets I've ever experienced. Back inside the Mill House kitchen, it's loaded with too much included food to possibly be consumed in one stay. Phenomenal Oreo truffle torte which will sit in your stomach like a log, blueberry and banana breads, and a cookie like a whoopee pie. Also a cooler with soda, water and V-8. And that doesn't even include the ice cream bar with all the toppings. The grounds are filled with shade gardens and the waterfall itself. Judith said we could take off our shoes and walk in the water, but the rocks were moss covered and looked too slippery. Overall just very peaceful outside and no sounds but the running water. We slept well on the comfortable bed, and went to the kitchen for breakfast. Breakfast is self serve, but the fridge is stocked with eggs, every breakfast bread product you can imagine, yogurts, juices, fruit, along with all the treats I mentioned earlier. Also a regular coffee maker and an espresso maker. I practically had to crawl out of there. About an hour from Colonie, I'd wholeheartedly recommend a stay there.

Wow!!! I can't put into words how amazing this place is. We've been to a lot of bed and breakfasts…read more quite a few that were :high end" but nothing compared to this magnificent place. There were a few rooms in the bed and breakfast itself but we chose to to stay in the cottage by the B&B "The Hog and Haus" which at one point in time housed pigs. This cottage is right next to a gorge that you can hear very clearly from inside the cottage and it lulls you to sleep. The cottage is rustic yet has all the amenities you could want (except television) there is a fully stocked fridge with soda, water, yogurt, a variety of fruit, milk, cheese (good brick cheese), creamer for coffee, and flavored seltzer water. There are also a variety of different kinds of crackers, cereals (the good kind), and baked goods that the host prepares daily. You also have access to the main house which is very tastefully decorated with antiques and a working pool table, and, get this.......an all you can eat ice cream sundae bar with all of the toppings and not one, not two, but over six flavors of ice cream!!!! There are also more snacks and beverages there. The cottage itself was more than worth the cost especially with the sound of the waterfalls in the gorge and the true cabin feel. If you plan to go to Cooperstown or even just want an awesome getaway (this place is well worth the trip from anywhere) come to Johnstown to stay in this charming historical place. Oh yeah..... there is a ton of history behind these walls including being part of the underground railroad. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Howes Caverns Motel is run by the Howes Cavern. When you're checking into your motel, you actually…read morehave to go to the cavern to check in. That's how you get your key. I attached the paperwork and the inside paperwork that is given to you when you come to the motel. You can see on the paperwork that there literally cannot be any emergencies or you'll get charged for them. We had something crawling above our heads the enter night. It sounded like something running fast in one room and something tiptoeing in the other room. This would not have been on their emergencies so we didn't call. We were woken up with pounding on our door from room service. We were not ready to get going at 8:24 in the morning so we had to get dressed to answer the door. Check out is by 11, which is normal and fine, check in had to be done by 3:45 or they would let us know where they were putting the keys? Needless to say, we checked in by 3:45. There were no food options, store options or any accommodations available after 3:45 PM. Do not have an emergency, they will charge you. Our experience was not pleasant and we will not be back to the motel. The pool was closed and that wasn't an option for us to do either.

Staying at the motel was extremely convenient as the main attraction is a short walk from the Motel. The suit consisted of 2 rooms with 2 double beds and a shared bathroom. The only down side to the shared bathroom was the water pressure, which made the shower more of a gentle mist than a shower. The pool was still open mid September which was great, however not heated so was a bit chilly to dip. Overall though this spot is clean, comfortable and a great value!
