We stayed in the suite which had its own private bathroom, a very comfortable queen-size bed, and chairs to watch TV; WiFi was also conveniently available. The next morning Melissa had prepared a delicious breakfast for us with fresh fruit cups, homemade scones, English muffins, jam, a homemade frittata, orange juice, tea and coffee! We were very pleased with our stay! Melissa is a wonderful hostess and proprietor of a Bed and Breakfast that we highly recommend !

I had forgotten to print tickets to Saratoga for the Whitney and she let us use her printer. Accommodations were both very comfortable and beautiful with an amazing bed frame made by the local Amish. The breakfast was delightful consisting of fresh peaches and cream, delicious blueberry pancakes and steaming hot coffee. Very homey feel to the living room. Would definitely stay again as the price was more than fair. We were just there as a layover between Cooperstown and Saratoga. The town of Fort Plain seemed past it's prime so wouldn't go there as a destination, but A White Rose came up roses as a very relaxing place to stay between two points.

Wow!!! I can't put into words how amazing this place is. We've been to a lot of bed and breakfasts…read more quite a few that were :high end" but nothing compared to this magnificent place. There were a few rooms in the bed and breakfast itself but we chose to to stay in the cottage by the B&B "The Hog and Haus" which at one point in time housed pigs. This cottage is right next to a gorge that you can hear very clearly from inside the cottage and it lulls you to sleep. The cottage is rustic yet has all the amenities you could want (except television) there is a fully stocked fridge with soda, water, yogurt, a variety of fruit, milk, cheese (good brick cheese), creamer for coffee, and flavored seltzer water. There are also a variety of different kinds of crackers, cereals (the good kind), and baked goods that the host prepares daily. You also have access to the main house which is very tastefully decorated with antiques and a working pool table, and, get this.......an all you can eat ice cream sundae bar with all of the toppings and not one, not two, but over six flavors of ice cream!!!! There are also more snacks and beverages there. The cottage itself was more than worth the cost especially with the sound of the waterfalls in the gorge and the true cabin feel. If you plan to go to Cooperstown or even just want an awesome getaway (this place is well worth the trip from anywhere) come to Johnstown to stay in this charming historical place. Oh yeah..... there is a ton of history behind these walls including being part of the underground railroad. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

I think that the quality of a visit to a B&B depends on 2 factors - the accommodations themselves…read moreand the hosts that own the B&B. Both of those factors were off-the-charts at the Inn by the Mill. My fiancee' (well, now fiancee'... :)) took me up here on a 2 night trip for our 4th anniversary together and right away, I fell in love with this place. The numerous fountains and gardens framing the mill house are hard not to be enchanted with, and this is just the beginning. Ron and Judith are gracious hosts, with Ron having some amazing stories to tell. People wrote in the guest book in the Mill House that Ron should write down his memoirs, and listening to him for ten minutes will make you agree. The main Grist Mill Emporium will amaze you, with its numerous games (billards table, checkers, puzzles, tv, etc.) and of course, its amazing ice cream parlor with complimentary ice cream, toppings, sodas and other beverages! Heading over to the Mill House (the main guest house), you will instantly feel the sense of whimsy that Judith's decorating is trying to achieve. The outside koi pond compliments the larger pond in the Grist Mill. The porch is wonderfully day-dream inducing, especially if a recent rain has fueled the waterfalls into a loud stream behind the mill. The plethora of treats in the house's kitchen is evident as soon as one walks in, with the small cooler of baked goods courtesy of gourmet cook Judith (their famous oreo truffle torte is NOT to be missed!!) There is a fully stocked fridge (eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc.) along with every kind of tea and coffee that you would need...the living room and lounge areas are just magical and really evoke a great feeling of warmth that is a great way to start your day on vacation. My guy and I stayed by the Hog-n-Haus, a beautiful, romantic sweet little cottage literally right at the cliff of the waterfalls. Just beautiful and serene.... the perfect place to propose to your girlfriend of 4 years, which my guy did on August 3rd :). Thank you Inn by the Mill, for a truly wonderful and memorable experience. I couldn't have asked for more.

Each morning's amazing breakfast was exceptional and my hosts Roland/Steve were very accommodating, If I was ever hungry, it would have been my own fault, but each morning's breakfast got me started in fine fashion! One morning my hosts allowed my sister to enjoy the breakfast with me, even though she was not a guest. The Inn is an oasis from the busy world and while I was staying there it allowed me to finish one book, and take in all the ambiance of a richly appointed Inn. The Portobello is ideally situated so that I could easily get to Utica, Herkimer, and the wonderful Little Falls Canal Days celebration during my stay, Driving a car is a delight in the Mohawk Valley! Just an ideal place to stay full of peace, quiet, and friendly conversation. Thanks Roland and Steve!

The room was spacious and clean (though a little musty when we first arrived). We couldn't get the tv to work, though not a big deal (and I'm sure they would have been helpful had we asked about it). The property itself is the real draw. High in a valley, it is surrounded by forest and has great views of the valley below. We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub, and made a fire one night in the fire pit with wood they provided. They also have two gas grills and picnic tables, though we didn't use these. The breakfast was pretty basic but still filling, though seating is limited inside and the screened in porch is not heated. Overall a great place to stay when visiting Cooperstown and the surrounding area. Can definitely recommend to others.

August Lodge in cooperstown was a friday date night destination. My mother in law resides in…read morecooperstown so we dropped the little one off early and had a day to ourselves at this beautiful mountain getaway. Reading previous reviews we were on the lookout for a gravel unpaved road leading up to the lodge. To our surprise, the gravel road folks grumbled about in previous reviews has been paved into a proper road with lights on the left side of the path to guide your way in the evening. as it was a Friday in August most of the families that stayed for the week for dreampark had checked out and I believe there were 20 rooms booked for the weekend. We were greeted by a friendly young man who was courteous and enthusiastic. The lodge was more than accommodating with an early check in (we called ahead to confirm it was ok) and we were given a room with 2 king sized beds, a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom. As our experiences with hotels this summer was less then spectacular I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room and that the filters in the air conditioning unit seem to be regularly cleaned. No musty odors, cobwebs or dust to be found in the room. the kitchenette was spotless with 2 electric stove burners, microwave, sink, and mini fridge. I checked in with the yelp app (they have free wifi) and noticed there was a 15% discount upon check in. I went back to the front office and asked the young man who seemed confused and said he'd inquire. Quite honestly at this point I couldn't care less. If we got it, great but the experience and the lodge already proved themselves to be worth the price. Our next stop was the hot tub and pool. Outdoor and overlooking a stunning mountain view it was hard to pry ourselves away after a couple of hours to shower and go eat. We talked with the young man at the front desk regarding the dinner options in the area and decided on the red shed. I would have checked in at the red shed but there was no reception in the area. After dinner, we came back to a lighted path leading us to the lodge and found another equally as pleasant young man on the night shift. we inquired about the fire pit and if there would be one that evening. He jumped up and led us outside and got a fire going! Sitting outside in adirondack chairs sipping wine in cooperstown on a clear night has got to be one of the most awe inspiring view my eyes have ever witnessed. There isn't a constellation in the sky that hides from your view. You feel both amazed and a part of something much greater than your own existence. We were truly grateful at the chance to witness such a beautiful site atop the mountain. Our beds were as comfortable as they appeared and the room was equipped with directTV for our viewing pleasure. In the morning we woke up early to see the sunrise over the mountains (pics posted), had coffee and a continental breakfast in their main area behind the check in area. it was quaint, relaxing and had a screen room with rhododendron chairs that were comfortable and funky. I couldn't recommend this place more for a relaxing stay. Side note: they do have a game room with a couple of coin operated games and an air hockey table along with a swing set for the kids out front. We didn't get to utlize the spa, but heard the masseuse was good at her craft. *After leaving we received a call from the sister of the young man who checked us in. She figured out the yelp discount and applied it to our account. Thank you August lodge for not only the great relaxing stay but the follow through. worth the visit, just make sure there's availability as it fills up during peak baseball season. highly recommended for dreampark families.
