Howes Caverns Motel is run by the Howes Cavern. When you're checking into your motel, you actually have to go to the cavern to check in. That's how you get your key. I attached the paperwork and the inside paperwork that is given to you when you come to the motel. You can see on the paperwork that there literally cannot be any emergencies or you'll get charged for them. We had something crawling above our heads the enter night. It sounded like something running fast in one room and something tiptoeing in the other room. This would not have been on their emergencies so we didn't call. We were woken up with pounding on our door from room service. We were not ready to get going at 8:24 in the morning so we had to get dressed to answer the door. Check out is by 11, which is normal and fine, check in had to be done by 3:45 or they would let us know where they were putting the keys? Needless to say, we checked in by 3:45. There were no food options, store options or any accommodations available after 3:45 PM. Do not have an emergency, they will charge you. Our experience was not pleasant and we will not be back to the motel. The pool was closed and that wasn't an option for us to do either. read more

For the price, and location this place is a true gem! Located right at the site of the historic Howes Caverns, this motel provides clean and comfortable accommodations with a view like none other in the area. Stayed here in the family suit for Howe caverns "Naked in a Cave" event where you explore the cave and it's wonders, wearing nothing but a smile and comfortable shoes! Staying at the motel was extremely convenient as the main attraction is a short walk from the Motel. The suit consisted of 2 rooms with 2 double beds and a shared bathroom. The only down side to the shared bathroom was the water pressure, which made the shower more of a gentle mist than a shower. The pool was still open mid September which was great, however not heated so was a bit chilly to dip. Overall though this spot is clean, comfortable and a great value! read more

Clean, spacious, gorgeous view. We got the stay and tour package which included free fudge and a 9 lb gem bag the kids were able mine themselves. The pool is small but soooo refreshing after a day in the hot sun (we started the day at the Herkimer diamond mines). The cavern tour was awesome. The cafe was just ok. read more

I stayed at the motel on a recent trip to Howe Caverns with my boyfriend. We stayed there as part of one of their package deals with tickets to the caverns. Included in our package was a souvenir tray, flowers, champagne and some homemade fudge in the room upon our arrival. Our room had 2 double beds and was comfortable. All rooms are non-smoking. I liked the bathroom area, which had a separate room with the toilet and shower and another room with 2 sinks. There was a TV, but stations were very limited. On site there is a pool, but it was snowing so we obvious were not using it. The convenience to the caverns is the real appeal. It is also about 4 miles from food and businesses in Cobleskill. In all, a comfortable place to stay overnight when making a trip to Howe Caverns. And if you go off-season, the rates are even more reasonable... read more

My family LOVED staying at Howe Caverns Motel. We were going to do a Super 8 or something similar, but decided to stay on site for the "experience". What a great decision! Motel room was very clean, up to date, and spacious. Our package included 2 adult tickets for the caves. ($50 value, this was one of the big reasons we chose to stay here) Free fudge after the cave tour was a great treat, the "gem mining rough" was probably the biggest hit of the weekend with our young children, 5 & 8. There were free souvenirs (nice ones!) in the room. Pool was fine. The view is spectacular. It turned a really nice experience into a really great one. read more

Staying here while touring the caves and doing the adventure park. We got the king size room but the Jacuzzi is non.functioning. The room is very cozy and big and the view is awesome.. Wish there was a dresser in the room and there is no ice machine on the premises which is needed since there is no freezer compartment in the fridge. Great place to stay for a short getaway!! We just stayed two nights. The bathroom setup is very nice, shower toilet in a separate room from the double sink area, which makes changing and getting ready much nicer when there are several people needing to shower. It looked modern and up to date. Fridge, microwave, tv, desk... two beds- firm, but comfy. Very clean. Friendly staff. They have a nice outdoor pool area, which was clean and we were able to enjoy it. Spectacular view and can't beat the proximity to Howes Caverns... there is Secret Caverns, mini golf, go carts, plus what Howe Caverns has to offer... we took a very nice ride into Albany from there... good rates, pretty standard check-in/check-out. We stayed here for one night to visit the caverns. We arrived after the motel lobby area was closed so we had to go to the caverns check-in for our keys. The man that worked there was very welcoming and super informative. We did the Tour & Stay package so some fun souvenirs are included with that. The motel itself looks like a typical motel from the outside, but the rooms inside were great! They must have been redone recently because they are clean and modern. The view of the area outside the room is gorgeous! I would not hesitate recommending this place to anyone needing a place to stay while visiting the caverns! read more

Wonderful stay! The room was very clean and organized. There was a signature glass, magnet, and book about the caverns in the room. Okay place to spend the night if you need a place to sleep and are visiting the Howe Caverns I guess. Room has no cable and a very tiny old projection television. In the future I would definitely go to another hotel in Cobleskill if I needed a place to stay the night. There aren't any places to go that are close to eat or get anything either. Most are a 15 to 20 minute drive to Cobleskill. Average place to sleep and spend a night. read more

Eh, if you're getting married here it's almost necessary because if the convenience. No real frills unless you like seeing naked people because of the naked events at the caves. I got married at the caverns & family & children saw naked people because the nudist would leave their curtains open. We booked this motel because it was close to Howe Caverns. We booked a little late because all the single rooms were taken and what's left were double rooms. The room was very clean, but has a strange smell. The air conditioner is very strong, but loud. The bathroom is connected to a room with two sinks. The room also comes with a microwave and mini fridge. The television is out dated, but we didn't have time to watch TV shows. The view outside the hotel was beautiful. Stayed here to do lantern tour at Howe caverns which was wonderful but we ended up disappointed with the motel. The room itself was very nice, clean, comfortable. Our problem was the lack of TV service. It was non existant. When we checked in the TV was off line and they told us they were working on it. We did the tour that night & when we returned it still wasn't working. The room was not badly priced but I do expect for the price to have tv service. The next morning the staff took off a whole 27.00/ 10% from the bill even though we had another problem of carpet tacks sticking up out of the floor and we kept stepping on them each time we entered the barhroom. Staff didn't care in the least. Not once did she apologize for any of the inconvenience. The night caretaker was more apologetic. read more

Place was ok, but glad we didnt have to stay more than 2 nights. Stayed during Cooperstown induction weekend and this was the closest place I could find. Was about $200 a night for completely out dated room and no breakfast. The price of the room did include a lantern tour of the cavern though. read more

My wife and I stayed this motel August 30, 2015. We arrived just as the hosts was about to leave, 6 p.m. We quickly received the keys and since the host was getting to leave we didn't take a look at the room first. The room was two doors from the office, which by the way the office is closed at night and no one is on duty; have to call an emergency number if you need something. We should not have expected much from a small Motel, but we were looking for a place to on our return trip from Maine to Virginia. Beds were horrible, air conditioning was terrible, the room smelled like a dentist's office or worse. The room smelled to me as if it the room smelled very strongly of a fuel or chemical smell. It just wrecked of a strong fuel smell that made my wife and my throats sore in the morning. Woke up several times during the night concern if the place was safe air quality and if it was a danger to our health. In addition to the smell the air conditioner rattled each time it turned on with a sound of water being drained as it turned off. I would guess the filters have not been changed in years. If this motel had been in a city we would had been very concern since the people around the place seemed to be on the shady side. In fact one lady had a cigarette in her hand as she opened the door of her room, not smoking room, next to us as she open the door to let her daughter in. They can claim they are nonsmoking rooms but sure does not appear to be enforced. I believe they have people staying on a weekly if not monthly bases on some sort of housing federal or state program. The room had flies and bugs, old gross bedspreads, loud rattling AC, uncomfortable beds, old carpet, semi cool refrigerator, an old box TV set that provides fuzzy channels only and a smell sort of like stale mixed with moth balls when you first enter room. Even the Wi Fi does not work in trying to hook up to it. Bathroom is updated and nice and you can't beat the view from the window. Recommend if you are considering staying at the Howe Caverns Motel, go elsewhere and spend a little more since you will be totally unhappy with this place. It is old and the owners do not care since they have your money and will provide not refund or even a part refund. read more

This is my favorite place to stay when I come to Cobleskill. April in reservations is very knowledgeable and helpful. Melinda at the front desk of the motel is extremely friendly knowledgeable and helpful absolutely love her. Pam is also extremely knowledgeable and helpful keeps my room spotless and will help in any way she can whether it be questions about the area or questions about the motel I absolutely love her too. Nice, fairly clean motel. Not a motel person but this one meets my expectations. Beautiful view. Warm heater for the off season. Two sinks in bathroom very nice. Separate shower & toilet area very nice. Nice layout. My son's only complaint is each bed had only 3 pillows. Since we had 4 people one person was without an extra pillow. I'm sure we could have gotten extra pillows & blankets but we did not ask. Lots of outlets for charging devices. Two usb outlets on 2 lamps. Room has a fridge & microwave. read more

The room we stayed in had an unbearable smell of I'm not even sure what. I seriously considered sleeping with the door open. We bout lysol and cleaning wipes at the wall-mart down the street, they did nothing. My cloths and belongings smelt like the place days after we left. read more

I give the motel 3 1/2 to 4 stars if you understand that it's an old motel and accept it for what it is. This is not luxury but it is cozy, clean and convenient. Stayed in the Family Suite with my 3 kids; 7/7/4. It is two rooms back to back with a shared bath. Two double beds in each room, each with a small (dated) tv. There is a small fridge and microwave in the common hallway. It's the first room in the building so it's subject to some wind. Not a big deal but noticeable during the night. Went out to dinner then bought some microwave popcorn & drinks for the room. The only disappointment would be the small tvs and limited channel selection. They are hooked to Dish Network with about 12 channels, none of which are kid appropriate after dinner hours. Channel list needs updating in room binder but there are so few available that you can click through them pretty quickly. A DVD player would have been helpful. However we didn't come to watch tv so all in all we enjoyed it. The kids had a good time and that's all that matters. read more
