Not a big deal, but I don't know that this is something you'll really know until check-in. The building a few doors down where I stayed also appeared to be historic though a bit less grand on the main level than the main house. The lobby of the building was festively decorated for the holiday. With the bright windows, a sofa, Christmas music playing, and a tree twinkling, one afternoon I couldn't resist getting a little work done in the lobby. My room was cozy with a small kitchenette, bed, arm chairs, and desk. The arm chairs are cute but not very comfortable. The desk was perfectly positioned overlooking the windows, which made for a great spot to work. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced (it was sinking on both sides with a high spot in the middle). For my solo traveling girlies: +The inn is not staffed all night +Doors have old fashioned keys, deadbolts, and chains +The surrounding neighborhood seems nice and safe enough +Parking is slightly off site and requires walking around the block or through the back of the property. If you don't need to bring a car, I'd opt for uber +I think there may be some permanent residents in the additional property (a couple doors down from the main house) All and all, it's a beautiful, historic property, which is one of my favorite sorts to stay in. I wouldn't likely stay there again solo, but would absolutely stay with my partner!

The main one being that I was unable to enjoy the tub as much as I would have liked. The first night the jets didn't work, and someone was nice enough to come by the next day and fix it. Later that night I was looking forward to finally using the tub as intended (and even cancelled a spa day for it) but the other guests had already used all of the hot water by then. I left without getting much of any enjoyment from the tub, which is the main reason I booked the room in the first place. The other issue was the parking situation, which, to be fair, I should have anticipated before booking, considering its location. The parking spot doesn't come with the room, so you must pay extra to access it, and finding it in the dark after dinner is not easy when you have to follow a paper map and there is a line of cars behind you. Walking back to the inn alone in the dark was also pretty unsettling. Overall, this experience was the opposite of relaxing. I will say that the property is very pretty, though, and seemed to be clean.

True Italian cuisine. On the second night, we tried a wood fired pizza and it did not disappoint! The following paragraph, and the pictures attached, was from the email sent to the owner/operator after our first, and only, night. The email was resent after receiving a generic "Thank you for staying with us" email on 8/21/26. When we left in the morning I also sent a text message to the contact number we were given. As of the date of this review (8/30/26) I have received no response in any form. I cannot argue the lack of refund due to accepting the policy when booking but I would expect an acknowledgment of my communications. I will say that the common area inside did appear to be nicely maintained and clean. My rating is based on the significant differences between website photos/descriptions and actual conditions and the complete lack of response to my communications. "We were very disappointed in the condition of the inn. Aside from the cosmetic condition around the outside of the building, we were disappointed to find light bulbs out in our room, the bathroom doorknob that appeared ready to fall off, curtains and blinds that did not block the streetlights streaming in, missing blinds on one window, windows that could not be locked, no apparent climate control for our room (even a table fan would have been helpful), a thoroughly unimpressive view of basketball courts and a skate park (not Washington Park) from our window, and under the bed looked like it had not been cleaned. While the room was sufficient enough to sleep in for one night, we did not feel that it was worth staying as we were celebrating an anniversary and had expected a more intimate and comfortable stay. The pictures and descriptions from the website appeared to be somewhat misleading. I recall the refund policy did not include early check outs but in light of the multiple deficiencies at the property that prompted our early departure, and given that the room will be available to you for rebooking, I am respectfully requesting a partial refund of 50% (just the room fee for 2 nights) of our reservation cost. My room was magical and as a writer I loved the synchronicity of the rooms theme being for writers. The decor was nostalgic filled with beautiful antique finds as well as family heirlooms. I loved how personal it all was. The location was close to downtown and lots of restaurant options to choose from. What stood out about this visit is I had the best sleep I've had in a long time. There was a feeling of calmness and to be able to travel and have that feeling is unmatched a beautiful memory. I had this waking up and John cooked his famous breakfast, which all of us that were staying at this beautiful bed-and-breakfast got to enjoy. Long story short: This place is amazing!…read more Long story: Everything about this place seemed to good to be true when I read the reviews but to my surprise Hotel Mountain Brook hit every one of my expectations. First off, the location. It's located right off the main road through Tannersville and is perfectly perched right atop a hill, so you're surely gonna capture some great views of the mountainous landscape. The place itself is so incredibly quaint and gives off the homey and warm cabin/lodge feeling. There's only about 20 rooms/cabins to reserve so the staff to patron ratio is very good. And it shows because the staff went out of their way to communicate with everyone and have a friendly chat. It's run by a two people, Sarah and Ryan, who were always around for help. And they were incredibly polite! The rooms themselves were DOPE. Great views, and warm even in the 15 degree weather. The bathtub jets worked so well to my surprise which was great for a jacuzzi like dip after a day of skiing at Hunter Mountain. And the perks! The common space had a game area with an entire wall of DVDs you could take to your room and watch. And if you got hungry or thirsty, there were all sorts of snacks, hot drinks, soda, coffee, you name it, all available in the common space - on the house. Breakfast was every morning, 8-10am and the selections were plentiful. The staff would approach your table or wherever you chose to sit and tell you what was on the menu for the morning and they would prepare it FRESH and bring it out to you. I gots more to say but this should be enough to convince you to pay a visit here next time you're planning a trip to the area!

We enjoyed the old movie and music theme in this updated prior rectory. After spending the last several years of travel in hotels and Airbnb's, we have come to remember how personal and inviting B&Bs are. This particular one, however, is one of the best. The BB is two blocks from Warren Street for quick access to restaurants and shops. There is also a retail shop on Warren Street where you can spot many of the unique items from the house. The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! We spent most of the mornings and afternoons on several hikes throughout the area - all of them peaceful and beautiful. The waterfalls at the end were stunning.

But what really makes this hotel is the proprietor, Joe. He is warm, friendly, and witty. He is low-key and provides a type of customer service that is uniquely his own. This place wouldn't be the same without him. He gives this hotel its kind personality. Joe is a Host to his guests, as opposed to a Hotel Manager. He provides his guests with bikes, as well as umbrellas when it's raining. -- He thinks of everything. Further, Joe is an animal-lover. He was instrumental in founding a retirement place for race horses. The place is called Old Friends. It is for older horses who have completed their racing and breeding years. There is no other place like it. I highly recommend this hotel, and obviously, Joe.
