The owner, Preston, and his wife made us feel right at home. Within 10 minutes of check in we were offered fresh fruit and homemade brownies. Our room (Green Room) was decent sized, had AC, an electric fireplace, and a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was served right at the scheduled time and was excellent. Day one was waffles, bacon, and fruit. Our second and last day led us to a nice quiche with sausage and homemade crumb cake...drool. Preston took the time to sit and converse with us while we are and made a real effort to get to know us. We loved hearing some of his stories about the house and about the area. I highly recommend the Lewis house as an alternative to pricier chain hotels in downtown Saratoga and as another option to camping or staying at a motel. You will not be disappointed.

In the morning we served the best breakfast: day 1: homemade Danish with blueberries, fresh fruit, bacon, muffins, and eggs! Day 2: Apple cinnamon waffles, apple slices, and sausage. Mr Lewis and his wife were so friendly and made us feel right at home. He cut me fresh pussy willows from the garden to take home. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The Lewis House is walking distance to the village of Ballston Spa and about 10 drive to downtown Saratoga Springs and the racetrack. We will def be back for racing season!

We expanded our search and came across Maple Shade Bed and Breakfast, and what a lucky find. It was a little over an hour from Manchester, where we spent the day, but well worth the drive. This B & B is set on 85 acres of rolling farm land as far as the eye can see. We pulled in and was greeted by the owner Joanne. She was very welcoming and showed us our room, the Ivory Room on the first floor. We found out she had a last minute cancellation and we were very lucky to get the room. The room has a king bed, very cute and comfortable and plenty of room to unpack. She showed us around and explained that breakfast is between 8:30-9:30 each morning, come whenever you wish. After we settled in we took a walk to the Adirondack chairs overlooking the cornfield and enjoyed a sunset with a bottle of wine we had brought. We slept well and breakfast the next morning was delicious...freshly baked muffins, fresh fruit and made to order omelette and the following day was delicious French toast. Their hospitality is just delightful and we hope to return in the future!

We did not really see the grounds that night when we drove in. We had to 'self check-in' and found our room. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the room was. We had a wood burning stove, flat screen TV, huge bed with comfy bed linens, and a huge private bathroom. The next morning we woke up to the smells of breakfast. We made it out to the dining room and there was a delicious spread along with the owners serving us and making plenty if conversation. We really enjoyed it. After breakfast we took a walk around the property, WOW. It was amazing. The farm is so pretty and truly a great spot for leaf peeping. I can't wait to go back next year!!

There is absolutely no other place with better value. As seen in all other reviews, Barry could not be a better host. He gave us detailed recommendations on everything we asked for, and even called a bar, Helsinki, to check if there were any tables left as this place has minimal standing room (only he knew this as he is the expert on everything in town). Then, again we booked last-minute train tickets back home and gave him just 20 minutes notice. Barry insisted on making us breakfast-to-go and driving us to the train station there even though we had time to walk. In just 5 minutes, Barry made us the most savory yet simple sandwich (which was the topic of conversation for part of the train ride back.) His breakfast was the best meal we had during our entire weekend in Hudson - 100% fact. Eating breakfast outside on the porch was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. Location is walking distance from the best shopping and food in Hudson, as well as Amtrak. If anyone else is looking, this is the only place I'd recommend.

From the street and the upper parking lot this hotel looks closed but drive around to the main entrance and everything starts to take shape, The front steps lead up to a very cozy lobby with a fire in the fireplace and beside that is the front desk. The staff at the front desk were very efficient and friendly with getting us checked in. The whole decor is colonial in style without being stuffy. The room was different in style than the front lobby. The room was extremely comfortable and cozy which was needed after a long night of travel and the first college tour. From the desk and headboards the style was a bit more modern with the bathroom door being a barn door style . The room was very quiet and the view was serene. In the morning the complimentary breakfast was a little above average with a couple unique items like fresh scones. This is a place that I would book again if I needed to stay in the area. All in all, it's not bad for the price.
