So when i happened across this Yemeni coffee shop i was intrigued. I got a "pitcher" (i guess they don't serve just a cup?) of the Mofawar (spiced coffee with evaporated milk) and Qishr (sp?) which is spiced coffee made from the coffee bean husks of all things. Beautiful presentation on a tray with tiny espresso size cups and sort of beaker pitchers with the coffee to refill your cups. Mofawar was kind of on the bitter side for my taste which i suppose is inevitable due to the amount of spices - looked like a quarter cup of spice sediment at the bottom of the beaker. I was expecting a flavor mix like chai but could only taste cardamom - one of my least favorite spices unfortunately. So it was not my taste but was an interesting experience at least. The qishr husk drink was actually more like chai tea - also may have been heavily cardamom flavored, and i couldn't taste any coffee element that the husks might have contributed . More of a curiosity to try than anything I'd order again. I also tried various food items - olive cake - bland - baklava - oddly pasty layer combined with larger chunks of nuts - not my favorite- i think it had both pistachios and almonds. - a warm sliced egg and cheese on croissant- this one was truly delicious- i think there might have been some magic mix of spice and sesame seed sprinkled in it. That aside - i don't think the pastries are better than mediocre quality , and the heavy silty nature of Yemen coffee with overpowering cardamom is not for me. Not having had Yemen style coffee anywhere else i have no idea if this is a great example of it at its best or not.

We visited Qawah Valley from California during the FIFA games specifically because they advertised that they would be streaming the matches. When we arrived, we asked if they could put the game on, and the young employee working the cashier (who appeared to be a high school or college student) abruptly told us, "No," with no explanation or effort to help. Instead, we ended up watching the game on our phones despite choosing this place because of their advertised promotion. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. When ordering a savory item, I politely asked what type of meat it contained. The same employee responded, "It's meat." Thinking he misunderstood, I clarified by asking whether it was chicken or beef. Instead of answering the question, he repeatedly and condescendingly kept saying, "It's meat." It was such a bizarre and dismissive interaction over a very basic question that any customer has a right to ask. What was worse was that the item turned out to be stale, cold and chewy! Customer service can make or break a business, especially in New York City where people have endless options. If you're going to hire inexperienced employees, then invest the time to properly train them on basic professionalism, courtesy, and product knowledge. They're the face of your business, and your revenue depends on how customers are treated. If they're unable or unwilling to provide even the most basic level of hospitality, then it's worth investing in better hires. It's a shame because Qawah Valley is a beautiful, spacious café in an incredible NYC location. They've invested a ridiculous amount on the real estate of this location but a nice space means very little when it's paired with some of the worst customer service I've experienced. I won't be returning, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a welcoming café experience.

My regular size chai latte was $5.99, plus an additional charge of $.85, for my requested almond milk. I understand that. Things are up in price pretty much all around. It is May 2026. SBUX used to charge extra for almond milk, but now they don't. Maybe eventually that will happen here. But, either way, this chai latte was made fresh, right before everyone's eyes. I also splurged on a chocolate latte once. It's on the menu as a "real chocolate latte" and it was as advertised: very natural chocolate flavor and not sickly sweet. It's not the quickest because they take a lot of care in making their drinks, but their drinks are definitely worth a little wait.
