I had been there several years ago. I thought we'd go again see how the ambiance was. Bartender was polite..drinks were decent and fairly priced. The place needs a makeover big time if they want to attract more customers. There was no A/C so the place felt stuffy. The women's bathroom not only is it 1 stall..but the floor was dirty and wet..the sink was clogged and I'm pretty sure over flowed by the end of the night. I was charged 20$ for a vodka cran and a plain coke. Owner told me 4$ for the coke how is well vodka 16$ when I talked to the owner he said are you sure like what would I have to lie about simply walked out and grabbed my drinks at the liquor store next door. Hole in the wall dive bar. Older lady that drives a blue old car and paints her hair blond always looks angry. If you are looking for a drink with better ambiance and service keep driving down the road. If you're ok to just have a quick drink this is not a bad option. Same lady is always harassing people about parking directly in front of the bar. Only she likes to park there. Yet the people that go to this bar take up the entire parking lot for the other businesses at this lot. read more

i went to this place with a buddy, the security guard, and the two bartenders who helped me all did not check my ID to enter or buy beer. my friend and i both purchased a beer for $6 each and apple payed the lady bartender for them. about an hour later after talking and playing pool we went to grab another round from a different bartender, manny, and he tried charging us each $7! when i mentioned how they were $6 earlier he said it was because of happy hour but he'd charge us $6 BUT the signs in the bar says that happy hour is $5 beer so someone's lying somewhere. that's not all and this is bigger. while waiting for my nearly $7 beer manny and another guy who i would find out was the owner of the bar started making jokes that everything they touch at the bar has STD's! manny went to grab the owners phone to change the music in the bar and the owner said "don't touch that! everything has STD's here!". lastly, i am anemic. i crave and chew ice. i went up to the bar and asked manny for a cup of ice after already purchasing drinks and the guy next to him says "why do you need a cup of ice? what? do you have a bottle? i'm the owner of this bar and if you have a bottle i'll have you kicked out!" THEN i was ID'd by him after already being let in and buying drinks. after he finished yelling at me, as i walked away, i overheard him call me a douchebag to manny. terrible vibes, terrible service, terrible atmosphere. you're better off buying a drink from the sweet lady at the liquor store a few shops over and drinking out front. read more

Came to shoot pool and it was ok at the beginning because it was empty. Towards the end of the night we didn't know the table counter that leans along the window was loose and broken until after we leaned on it and it knocked down our full beer. The older blonde lady at the bar refused to replace the beer that fell due to their broken counter and was rude about it. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE OR THESE PEOPLE. the owners, Gloria and manny who are mother and son, are crooks. they ask for a $250 deposit from the bands to cover any damages, saying it will be returned at the end of the night. they refused to return the $250 deposit not because of damages, but because they didn't clear $1500 at the bar. that was never communicated. We arrived to a tired strip mall in Downey at approximately 9:30PM. As soon as we entered our friends joked that it would take an age to get a drink and to order three beers at a time. They weren't kidding. We attempted to order our second round and the person behind the bar served all of the males in our group cold beers and handed me a room temperature bottle. I took one sip and realized I couldn't drink it; when I asked for a replacement she slammed the new one down on the bar and simply said "$3.00". If there were cold beers then why the hell would you serve me a warm one to begin with? I had her put the warm one on ice and drank the cold one. Not a single tip was given that night (all puns aside). The short lady with blonde hair and heavy make up who I believe is the owner if not acts like the owner and acts like the bouncer is rude and bias. May I include without checking my I.D this woman accused me of drinking when she clearly saw me and my friend go outside for a cigarette knowing there is no A/C and was hot as tits. Good lord. If you decide at age 45 to pick up a meth habit, binge drink and hit your wife then you will have a place to hang your hat but until then, steer clear. I was booked for a show here last Friday and showed up ready for a great night of friends, music and drinks.. I would like to first draw your attention to the hole in the men's room door which coincidentally was the size of a man's head and obtrusively covered with a "Bud Light" banner ad. Anyways, I disregarded that gem and focused more on the 25 cent machine inside the bathroom that offered me "the screamer condom" or even some "real pussy pictures." I put in my quarters and was disappointed when it didn't work. I ended up playing a few games of pool which was the highlight of my night. As far as drinks go, I paid $7 for a Vodka Redbull and was pretty bummed when after waiting 10 minutes for a waitress, watched her pour BARTONS Vodka in my glass. BARTONS. I bet that whole jug of Vodka cost $7. Anyways. Long story short there are 2 kinds of dive bars and this was the kind that you don't want to find yourself in on any night of the week. read more

I have been going to the Stardust for years now. It's got it's good nights and it's bad. Depending on what night you end up there really makes a difference. They have live bands throughout the week, free shows, cant complain about that! Everything from Metal, to Indie, to Freestyle hiphop... though the one hiphop night i went got a little too raunchy for my taste. Let's just say it involved REALLY drunk chicks and lots of boobage. Hahaha! I have been to the stardust for a Halloween Party, to see many random bands, and to see many friends bands. Sometimes just to get a quick drink and play some pool. The bartenders are pretty friendly, and so are most of the regulars. This is a bar for anyone. My dad often likes to hang out at the Stardust [and he's almost 60], so do many of my friends in the 20-30 yr range. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Yes, I'd take away stars! First and foremost I've been around the dive bar scene almost 20 years now. I've seen some shady things happen. But blatant drug deals? C'mon man! The service was sub-par at the best. The pool room is a joke. (because you have pool tables doesn't make it a pool room, spend your money at hard times if you want to play pool). Prices are moderate for beer, you'll just have to wait 15-20 minutes to get one. This place could be great, the bartender was amazing but the manager was constantly berating her. She couldn't do her job because she would come to serve me and he would start yelling at her to serve his friends for free or something... she ended up walking out because he tried to steal her money out of her tip jar. The owner needs to learn how to operate a business. I wouldn't be surprised if this place was shut down soon. read more

Pretty good spot, considering its Downey. Despite it being a hole in the wall I had a good time here! Not the prettiest, or hippest... but its got some really good qualities... No cover, live music, cheap drinks ($2 domestic beer early in the night... then it just goes up one buck!), pool tables, friendly bar tenders and staff, and pretty clean bathrooms. Went on a Sunday night and the place was pretty damn full for the bands playing.. which is more than you can say for some places on Sunset on that night. over all, good times! read more

Sometimes we just have to live a little on the edge and try a new place. We ended up here, The Stardust. This place has a youthful friendly crowd. The bartender was very accommodating, and although I was ready to bash the KJ that night for favoritism and attitude, she really surprised me when she "cyber stalked" me to send me a really cool email. Wandered in on some car show night. Payed $12 to get into a shitty bar. Ordered a michelada made by the younger beautiful dark haired bartender. Was delicious. Sitting at three bar with my friend who was driving. 5 minutes later older short haired lady asked both of we wanted another drink. Went there for the first time this weekend. About what you'd expect from a place that is maybe a step above a dive. We got carded on our way in by some guy that apparently doesn't even work there. He could've just as easily charged us a cover and we'd have paid him. I suppose the definition of a club these days is a minimum of a 'cash only', no draft beer bar attached to a room with a stage and something more than a single unisex restroom. Speaking of the facilities, as others have mentioned, the novelty machine in the men's room is about the only memorable piece of decor in the entire place. For entertainment, they do have a small room with a couple of pool tables and an old Pacman arcade that appeared to be broken, sadly. The only saving grace for this dusty gem is the bands that were performing that night. We got to see some incredibly talented musicians put on a very entertaining show (musically as well as visually) that kept us there long enough to order a few mediocre drinks. We ended up leaving not long after the live music was over. Not much more I can say about it...my star rating pretty much sums it up. Kudos to whoever books their talent, though. read more

I have never come here when it wasn't to support someone that was going to be up on the stage. That being said, let's get down to what to expect at this bar: Restrooms: Sometimes clean, sometimes not. Always run out of materials before the end of the night. Definitely have a smell to them. I like that the mirror room is separate from the one toilet they have so the girls don't take up the sink when you're trying to wash your hands and get out. Drinks: Beer selection leaves A LOT to be desired. Mixed drinks depend on your bartender. Prices are ok, it's not that it's expensive, but it always feels like you're settling when ordering. And it's cash only. Ambiance: It's always going to be friends and family of the bands, or the local folks who hate the music and just sit at the bar all night. There will be some random people hanging out at the pool tables, but it's not a place where you go find new friends or try to make a love connection. The music depends on the night you go, they never really promote so you just have to know who's playing or look at the flyers by the door. Bands can get a little loud sometimes. I'm going to keep coming back, but like I said, it's for friends and family, not the bar itself. read more

I wish I could give 1.5 stars for this place. They have shows here which is great but they clearly do not promote them as the shows are always filled with friends and family of the bands who are playing. Pool tables are nice to have in there. However, there are gangsters and drunk trouble makers wandering aimlessly in this strip mall. The people who hang out here are older or up to no good. Definitely not a place a girl in her 20's wants to hang out. Bartender gave me a free glass of water. Went back for another and the manager made me buy a bottle of water. I wouldn't recommend this place. They have a stage and rarely use it, but even when they have bands they can't fill the room because its just some punk garage band learning the 3 chord basics. They have a pool table (that qualifies as a sentence right?). The bar isn't anything special either, just run of the mill choices. I once tried to come on a date here and a giant brawl spilled outside between dirty ghetto kids too, so be aware of the aspiring cholos. read more

I've been here a few times to see my friends' band play. The best thing I could say about the place is that the parking was great and the drinks weren't half bad. Once you go inside, the place is old but its of what one could expect from the area and exterior. As long as my friend's band continues playing here, I'll continue to go. read more
