So, let me tell you a little story about my favorite spot in Georgetown, The Spot! My partner and I moved from the big bad city to quiet little Georgetown in October, 2016. While we were exploring the area and looking at houses, we stopped at The Spot for a quick bite on a Sunday afternoon. It was good; and I don't mean food good, I mean everything good. The waitstaff, the atmosphere, EVERYTHING! I couldn't have been happier that we found our dream house, but also a friendly watering hole within walking distance of our new home. Fast forward to the present. You know how in "Cheers" when Norm walks into the bar, everyone greets him with a hearty hello? Well, The Spot is now my "Cheers" and although they may not know my name, they definitely know how to make me feel welcome. Trivia on Tuesday's and cocktails on Sunday Funday are best enjoyed at The Spot. My only suggestions, and these are merely suggestions, are to crank on the AC and bring back 2-for-1 burgers (because the bacon jam alone on the Spot Burger is a gift from the gods!). we came it at 12:30, it wasn't too busy. It took 10min before someone came over. it took 30min before we got our drinks. 50min later, the couple next to us left when the waitress came over to us I started to speak "we've been here 50..." then she snapped "it's coming..." while walking away. All 3 of us got the same burger but for some reason my fries were stone cold and soggy. only 1 waitress and she was in no hurry. bartender stood there doing nothing. we heard our burgers or fries start cooking a good 20min after we placed our order so cook was in no hurry either. Although the Spot had some growing pains when they first opened, it is now my favorite place to frequent on the north shore. Food is great, atmosphere is lively and fun, waitstaff is friendly and inviting, and the bartenders are fun. I frequent the place with friends and family every week. Music, trivia, locals night, girls night, etc... All good stuff. Two suggestions: take-out takes too long, and place is outgrowing its space already. But overall, you can't go wrong here. read more

First time I've been to this restaurant, and the last. Most of the food was mediocre, but the Truffle fries weren't good. Total waste of money. Not to mention the fries were lukewarm and semi-limp. Not crispy or hot. They sat in the kitchen a while, about 10 minutes before being served. First, the SPOT hardly puts any truffle oil on the fries. You can watch the kitchen line cooks making the truffle fries while sitting at the bar. You can see right into the kitchen. The kitchen adds probably a teaspoon of truffle oil for an entire giant metal bowl of fries, which is about one big fryer basket, or about 4 normal portion-sized servings of fries. The kitchen staff squeezes the truffle oil from a plastic bottle over the fries for about a one second pour. Truffle fries are supposed to have a tablespoon of truffle oil per single potato, cut up into fries, which is about 1.5 normal servings. Truffle oil isn't that expensive, especially when you can buy it in bulk commercially. Second, the kitchen staff only - but very heavily - drowned the fries in salt and grated parmesan cheese. The only thing you can taste is the parmesan cheese, sticking to the deep fryer oil on the fries. Truffle fries are supposed to have equal parts of salt and PEPPER, and fresh cut PARSLEY, and only a MILD sprinkling of grated parmesan cheese. Basically, at the SPOT, you're only buying regular french fries coated with parmesan cheese at a ridiculous truffle fry price. I've had better, and know the difference. the fried pickles were delicious with their jalapeño sauce dip. The sushi is a bit pricy for just eight pieces but definitely fresh fish and made well and I'm a sushi critic. The Mac n cheese is probably the best Mac n cheese I've ever had. it was made just right. read more

Went there on a Saturday with my wife and two teenage sons . Service was slow got a water after about 10 minutes. I ordered the Ruben sandwich which was $15 so I was expecting a nice sandwich. When it arrived was very disappointed I have never seen marble rye bread so small ! It barely had any meat inside it . My wife got the meatloaf which was very dry. Have been here three times since it opened. I ordered the BEST fish and chips I have ever eaten outside of London. The haddock was so buttery and flaky, and they got the crust just right. My boyfriend, who loved burgers, was in burger heaven with his meal. It was a little bit loud, though, and we couldn't help from noticing that the older couple next to us seemed displeased with the atmosphere. We got takeout the other night I'm not saying that it was bad but I'm not saying that it was good I got fish and chips, the fish was very nicely done but the french fries were greasy. The chicken wings- while the sauce was tasty were under done and a bit rubbery. Over all neutral experience. The place isn't cheap so you expect better quality. We might go back as a last resort if it's late. Many other local places have much better wings. Update. After my initial review I was contacted by the manger and offered a gift certificate for my next visit. No one ever replied to my email and no coupon was ever sent. Very poor business practice. I'm adding a star. Tried again and again and....this time although it was packed and loud our waiter was very good in spite of it being so busy. Chicken "bites" were cooked perfectly with not too much breading or sauce. Friends burger was very good, fries as always hand cut and delicious. They still have a problem with the fish tacos. The Spot has dropped a star in the past year. I like the place as there are few viable alternatives to Newburyport. The location is great and the vibe is really good. I would say the sushi is overpriced and they can't make a medium burger (I have tried numerous times). I love the spot especially the calamari. It's the only place I've ever been to that serves all parts of the calamari especially the tenticals. But recently they changed the dish from Asia to a black pepper. I was very disappointed but when I asked them if they could make it the old easy there was joy problem. This has become my local go to spot. The food is solid and service is friendly. Burger is really tasty. Wings are average but they have 50 cent wing specials and dollar oyster specials. While I do like this place and will continue to go I feel everything is a couple of dollars too much. $16 for 2 fish tacos is steep. Get a loyalty card. Well this is the 3rd and final try at fish & chips. First time was a nice thick good size piece of of white fish cooked awsome with thin crispy batter coating. Second time was a soggy smaller piece and was disappointing. Today's takeout was true disappointing rip off $22 for piece that look like single tilapia filet and soggy fries. Just got back from The Spot and don't think I'll be going back to that spot any time soon. I had such high hopes for this restaurant since it is part of the Serenitee Restaurant group. The place was close to empty when we got there on a Sunday about 5, yet we were seated at the worse seat in the house where all the waitresses have to come out and everyone has to pass to go to the bathroom. I don't think that was deliberate just a lack of experience. By the time we left the back of the restaurant was pack while the front was empty. My husband had to keep moving forward as the waitresses came around to wait on the tables. Waitress was good but no opportunity to have a conversation came up because everyone seemed to be waiting on us. That's ok because you want hot food. She asked us if everything was ok right after we got our apps then nothing. No one asked why half of the app was left or why half of my food was left. We were never asked if we wanted anything bagged up. Food is just laying in my stomach right now. So disappointing. Mac and Cheese balls, very salty and I had to ask for ketchup. Fish tacos lacked flavor. They were on a corn tortilla so I expected that but the filling was just bland. I found the tiny tiny lime after I picked up the second taco. The onion rings were just frozen rings (as I now assume the mac and cheese balls were). That was one of the biggest disappointments from a Serenitee Restaurant. Based on my experience at other Serenitee Restaurants, did Serenitee not feel Georgetown would benefit from a restaurant with fresh and interesting food? Missed the spot this time. 30 minutes "ticket time" from order to food with only one (albeit large) party in front of us. I had the $18 meatloaf entree. It didnt have any of the bourbon and maple flavor described on the menu, and the accompanying "potato croquettes" were bland mashed potatoes formed into a patty and dropped in a fryer. 2 in the group had GREAT burgers, and 2 who had salad with steak tips found the steak tough. Had heard mixed reviews on this place so wanted to check it out for ourselves. The common complaint that it is very overpriced is VERY true. $63 for just my husband and I. No apps, 3 drinks, chicken sandwich, linguini with clam sauce, no dessert. Linguini was overcooked and mushy and the dish was almost tasteless. Generous amount of clams though. Chicken sandwich was good but nothing special for the price. Service was adequate but no follow up after our meal was served (how is everything? do you need anything?). I enjoy giving this place the support that it deserves. I have not had a bad meal there yet in the I am guessing.... 30 times I have eaten here in three years. I find that the bartenders are very friendly and accommodating. The bartenders that stand out most to me in customer service are Stacy and Tammy. I have experienced that Lindsey is very friendly as well. I think the manager Krista is very concerned with feedback from customers in which I can appreciate. So I order some sushi, oysters, and some fried pickles. For a meal, the Asian pulled pork sandwich. Well, everything came at once...by the time I got to the sandwich it was soggy...didn't like it at all. The waitress was good about it and took it off the bill, which afterwards was almost $60. I agree with Kelly. I was excited to see a new restaurant in town but it was a disappointment. Waitstaff was friendly but that was the only positive. The atmosphere was horrible; it was so loud that my wife and I could not hear each other. The food is average at best and overpriced. I can drive the same distance to Newburyport and have a much better meal at 50 Water or Loretta. We will not be going back. read more

We went out today to celebrate my wife's birthday; since Holloway's working off winter hours we gave The Spot a try. While the food was good, the prices and service level should make it difficult to keep this place a float. A bowl (not more than a cup and a half) of chili was $7, a Captain and Coke is $8....a well bourbon and ice tea was $7.... When we didn't order up right away upon sitting down our waitress went sight unseen for a while today. Absolutely understandable if the joint was jumping, but it was fairly quiet today. Nobody dropped by to see how we were, no one came by to explain the kitchen was backed up...just nothing. By the time we did receive food, our 3 year old was ready to eat... I've been to some of their other properties and enjoyed myself so maybe it is just a Georgetown thing...basically a disappointing enough experience that I actually did the math to only leave a 15% tip. read more

This place is GREAT. We took my parents here for their Anniversary. We got two sushi rolls for appetizers that were Phenomenal! One was a salmon roll, the other was a tuna roll and they were both top notch. My wife got the Fish Tacos that were great, my Parents got Burgers, both of which they said were excellent! And I had a pork sandwich that was possibly one of the tastiest morsels I have ever eaten. The drinks were great too, my wife had a special raspberry drink that she loved and the wine selection was very good as well, I had a Guinness that was poured perfectly and was exactly the perfect temperature. We were familiar with their sister restaurant, Maggie's Farm, and really enjoyed dining there, but there was something extra special about The Spot, that we truly enjoyed that night, our server was fantastic, and the ambiance was nice, our only negative was it was a little loud where we sat, but not at all too loud that we felt it hindered our overall experience! It's a fun friendly atmosphere, joyous places sometimes get loud... I highly recommend giving The Spot a chance, you can park on the street, or in the town lot and walk over...it's totally worth the two minute walk! I can't wait to go back. read more

Been meaning to write this for a while now. Went here for dinner with my wife and father-in-law before taking her out for her birthday. We arrived and sat at the corner of the bar facing the kitchen. There were two bartenders on shift one male one female. It was moderately busy, but there was no wait for a table or bar seat and there were open tables as well. The dirty dishes from the prior guests stayed in front of us on the bar-top for a good 5-10 minutes before either bartenders took the time to acknowledge our presence. We waited patiently and were polite when they did clear the dirty platewear. We then sat there for another 10+ minutes before the partender came back to ask if we would care for anything to drink and if we would be having food at the bar or if we were waiting for a table. We gave a drink order and informed him we would like to dine at the bar so we could enjoy our food/drink as well as watch the hockey game. (there were at least 4 tv's with all of them tuned into the RedSox game so we did not see it as an issue that we ask for 1 of them to be changed to an NHL Stanley Cup Playoff game. Upon arrival of our food my wife and father-in-law got their entres, yet i waited an additional 15 minutes for mine, and it ended up being something i did not order (i ordered a burger with onion rings and was delivered a pasta dish).... but that is ok, accidents happen. No need to get confrontational with anyone. Easy fix, or so i thought. I remained foodless for an additional 15-20 minutes while my wiffe and father-in-law let their food get cold. Eventually i just told them to go ahead and eat without me. By the time my food was delivered, all of our drinks remained empty for over 20 minutes with no inquiry of if we would like refills. At this point we were very disgruntled but not ready to file a complaint lol The final straw was that as soon as we were physically handed the check (with desert and after-dinner drinks in front of us) the male bartender immediately changed the one out of 4 tv's we had asked to have hockey on while they were in double over time. We immediately noticed and could not believe the rudeness and blatant disregard for a custoners request. Not to mention it was the most inopportune time to do that, considering our bill was around $140.00 and we had not filled it out yet. We just moved to the local surroundings, and we've already sampled the Spot's wares three times. The last two times were really very good -- once a baked haddock and mashed potatoes with grilled asparagus. Sounds simple, right? That haddock was totally perfect, and the asparagus was just charred but still had bite.. So good. Last time I had a caterpillar roll that was both lovely and delicious. The boy is satisfied with their veg options, which is nice for a small town. Service is fun and friendly. Beware the Spot Russky cocktail -- it's dangerously delicious. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Fried calamari was lightly fried and delicious, and the side of fries were crispy and just about perfect. Had a couple Downeaster Ciders (bartender even shook em before pouring like you're supposed to) that were plenty cold and reasonably priced. I am really pulling for this place. We need dining options in this part of the world. The menu is good enough and reasonably well executed. The - ahem - ' opportunity ' is service. It is complete amateur hour. The bar staff spends most of its time talking to each other or chatting up the waitstaff, when they are not on their phones. The wait staff seems to have never worked ( or even been) in a restaurant. Yes, we would like napkins and a set up for our meal. Who knew? Yes, we would like you to clear the appetizer plates when we get dessert. Yes, when our wine glasses have been empty for 20 minutes, we would like you to stop by. I would have thought experience or skill would be requirement, but now see how that is not part of the plan..... My mistake. Whoever owns this place, please engage. Get a manager on site. We have so many friends who have written you off. The death spiral has begun. You can right it, but you need to act now....thank you. Update- I just want to commend the management for responding to this review with a very authentic approach to addressing the concerns raised. Went there on Easter and service was very attentive and enthusiastic. I continue to salute the Serenitee group for being bold enough to open a restaurant in Gtown and wish them nothing but success. read more

Nothing to say but it's the "Spot". I live in town and find myself there about once a week. Monday's are my favorite because of the sushi specials they offer. Besides their specials the sushi you can get is some of the best around. Their drinks are a little pricy so I wouldn't go to just drink and socialize. The best meal in my opinion is their meatloaf entrée that's wrapped in maple bourbon bacon. It's a tad small so there's not much waiting room and can get squishy at times.
