I enjoy taking the train to Carpinteria, getting my burger and fries from the Spot, and taking them over to eat at Island brew. This time i also tried their corn dog, and just ate everything at home. Oh! I also tried their chile relleno and had that for breakfast. Everything was heavenly :-) Its cash only but they have an ATM on site. They are remodeling their patio, so cant wait to see how that turns out. read more

There was a bit of a line since the food is so good I ordered a classic cheese burger large fries and chocolate shake I bit off a bit more than I could chew because it was a lot more fries than I originally thought burger was super good decent size next time I'll grab the small fries because it was so much haha (this is a good thing) they also do a variety of other things it's not limited to burgers fries and shakes highly recommend eating here love this place. side note tho very limited space for the line since it's on the sidewalk and only a handful of places to sit but the park is literally across the street so not too bad read more

This restaurant is Cash Only but they do have an ATM. We have been eating at the Spot for over 20 years and it is the exact same menu with the exact same experience every time. The food is good and the clam chowder served in the bread bowl is pretty legit. The staff are usually pretty nice but sometimes it can take forever to get your food. Like half an hour to 40 minutes if you are trying to get food on the weekend. There are some other restaurants in town a little that can get your food quicker if you are in a bit of a hurry. read more

I was just there Saturday, visited with my wife. She grew up in carp and worked at the stand when she was 13, from 86'-88'. Service was ok, but could be faster. Burger was missing a fresh flavor. Been going to the Spot most of my life as we'd make trips to Carpinteria in the summer. Still cash only after all these years. The 4/5 stars is probably more based on nostalgia and novelty than anything else. If there were no nostalgic ties for me, this would probably be a 3/5 based on my recent visit. The food itself is pretty basic. For the convenience of being right by the beach, it's great in that respect. It is possible that the gal who took my order may have been having a bad day, but she was hardly friendly. Either way, it's too bad because the customer service aspect of going places is huge--and when it's lackluster, the experience takes a big hit. Cool outdoor restaurant has a nice variety on the menu. I had a cheeseburger, fries and a soda cost about $14.74 but like everything now days what's not. Cash only no cards ATM available. The food: fries were fresh and hot. The cheeseburger was just the right size for me at least I am not a big eater. It had cheese melted covering the whole burger. The burger itself was fresh and hot personally it was cooked medium-ish I like my hamburgers cooked medium well. ( my 4 star rating) The bun for the burger was fresh tasted like it was homemade coming right out of the oven. This establishment was trying to steal money from my dad who is disabled by withholding his change. I went to speak to the employee who refused to give him his change and she was being rude and badmouthing my disabled dad to the other customers, claiming she did nothing wrong. The manager refused to come out and speak to me and left her teenage employee to handle a customer complaint. I will never support this business. read more

We decided to stop by and look for a burger spot before getting to Santa Barbara and we always prefer to look for a mom n pop shop, rather than a franchise restaurant when it comes to burgers. Boy, was that a great decision! The place is crowded, but the line moves by quickly. There is also plenty of seating around and there is greenery around to eat as well like picnic style. We got burger combos, an order of chili cheese fries, and some onion rings. Nothing disappointed. The burger was so delicious. It looked like a homemade burger and tasted like a piece of heaven. The spot is basically the go-to place to eat at the beach, hence, the name "the spot". It is located several meters away from the blissful beach in Carpinteria. The weather is always cool and relaxing here. Surrounding the spot are side streets to park and a nice little area vented with a/c. I felt like being in a corner was a great place to put the restaurant. The spot is a burger/fried food for convenience. The area has been here for years and I can see why. Plenty of locals come to eat their food. The prices for this place are on the expensive end. I ordered onion rings for $6 and I felt that I didn't get much. The other items like their fish and chips are quite tasty and amazing. There are small bathrooms located on the side. But you can go to a bathroom stall a couple yards away. Overall, my experience here was awesome. Going to the beach with a nice breeze and eating this food makes you feel calm inside. Also, the lines are long, but it goes by smoothly so you won't have to wait long, I love this type of service. read more

Harkening back to the 1960's when this type of restaurant was the definition of "fast casual", The Spot caught our attention when we were cruising around Linden Avenue on New Year's Eve during the day. Eating burgers and drinking shakes while sitting outside to eat is a sunny SoCal day tradition, right? Parking nearby was free, and we snagged a close place. A healthy-sized line had gathered in front of the order window, but moved quickly. The young people who were working that day had reasonably good attitudes. Fast is a relative concept. Took a while to get our food. We had to wait for a group to leave to snag a table on their deck out to the side. I enjoyed my burger, and the chocolate chip banana shake was pretty amazing. The fries were only so-so, which was a let down. Also, the staff was not keeping the tables clean. They were busy in the kitchen, but must have been short staffed to not also be taking care of the space where people sit to eat. Cash only is their rule here, so be prepared. And I just went over there this past weekend and ordered my usual pastrami sandwich, and it was definitely not fresh very cold, and I am disappointed with the quality of food after years of being very excited to eat at the spot, I am hesitant to go back again. My bf grew up coming here so he has great memories and hyped this place up a LOT. I'll likely come here for their amazingly crunchy onion rings and chili cheese fries. Their burgers were nice but not particularly special, which could be just what someone is looking for a for beach day meal! Onion rings on the other hand. To die for! I recommend! They only reason I'm not giving five stars is because the add ons are $2 extra so adding bacon and avocado added $4 to my burger. This hit extra hard because my burger had zero avocado on it. I've been eating at The Spot for close to 30 years. My son and I just finished two burgers, fries and a chocolate shake. The shake was the best part. My burger was not made to order, even after repeating and correcting the gal two times, both were luke warm, so into the microwave they went. The fries were more cold than warm, and as a result were hard, but not crispy hard, more like stale, lack of flavor hard. I was astonished by the price increases, I understand that all places have raised their prices, but The Spot seemed to inflate way more than they should have, and it seems that the quality went down as much as the price went up. For 5.25 I should not be able to glance at my fries and easily could how many there were. Sadly, I will not be going back. The end of a great burger joint. read more

Went to the beach for a fun birthday hangout for my sister. Ordered 3 chicken tender meals and a double hamburger meal with fries. Food is very bland, and customer service was absolutely unacceptable. Very rude and inconsiderate employees. They didn't give us two of the tender meals either and we had to let them know and they seemed annoyed and overall unhappy. I get it, it's just food and it doesn't really matter, but i think it is professional and overall polite to run a little burger business with polite employees. i don't recommend, especially when there are other amazing places in carp. 2 stars for the chicken tenders reminding me of being a kid. read more

Some thought it was close to In-N-Out Shakes probably a 4. If you have the chili dog, watch out, it's a 2+ cheese bomb. My wife had the mushroom, swiss burger (add bacon) that was very good. The onion rings were great, and the fries had some good crunch and taste. The service was pretty prompt - classic order, get a number and then pick up when the number is called. Decided to try this place out because someone told me they had addicting burgers. Hamburger here is my type of burger! Moist meat patty, lots of lettuce, raw onions and some nice buns. I would almost compare it to In-N-Out without the super long lines. But I think they use ketchup and mayo vs the thousand island. The burgers have that freshness feel to them, even after waiting half an hour to eat them. My wife likes the type of fries, but by the time I got home (30 min after picking up the food) the fries were dry. The nachos were ok. The stewed meat on them were long strips of meat (very tasty in may say), it almost reminded me of corned beef flavor. The nachos also have sour cream, guacamole, thin chips, melted cheese and lotsssss of beans (I asked for beans on the side). I prefer thicker chips on my nachos, but the topings weren't bad. Next time I try this place is going to be dine in or taking it to eat along the beach. read more

The food here was good, but certainly overpriced for what you get. I had the cheeseburger, french fries and a Pepsi. The cheeseburger goes for $4.80, the small french fries for $2.25 and the medium Pepsi for $2.50. You can get a much better burger for half the price at any In-N-Out. Although I thought the burger was only ordinary, I would say the french fries were superb - nice and golden brown. The seating is all outdoors, although it looked like they were refurbishing an indoor seating area that may open soon. There's also plenty of parking in the back. read more
