A guava dessert was way better than I expected (since I don't like guava) and was actually my favorite. Coffee was strong. Table or couch seating. This is one of those places you need to visit to see just how cute the offerings are. These are in the category of "too cute to eat." Almost. Location: In a small strip mall on Beach Blvd and Plaza Way with it's own parking lot right next to some new housing across the way. Lucky residents!! Desserts: 1) Nutella Bear: I was afraid this would be too sweet because of the Nutella name. I was pleasantly surprised the sweetness level was very light and not overpowering. Very cute presentation and I was very reluctant to eat it, but I did. 2) Mango passionfruit cheesecake: Not what I was expecting in a cheesecake, but it was still good. Don't expect the thickness and dense version of a cheesecake because this is not it. Still, light and sweet. 3) Yuzo mango mousse: This was okay for me. I thought it would be sweeter, but it wasn't. The private parking lot it's a bit on the small side, it was pretty full. The service was okay, the food/drink were really good. The place is well decorated, very lovely style. It does need a deep cleaning tho. The windows need a major professional cleaning (if they have a service, time to change it for a competent one, as they are dirty marks everywhere and even a big layer of dirt on the frame by the poor plant at the back of the store). The music was pleasant and just a tiny too loud, I had to shout a bit to be hear. The nutella bear was delicious, the dulce de leche was good but didn't taste at all like dulce the leche (I am Argentinean, I know my dulce de leche flavor like a professional taster lol). 08-13-2023 Who doesn't want to eat luscious sweets in a fancy(ish) setting? I am torn on the rating because I think we came on a day that was unusual. The lady was filling in due to some unforeseen circumstance. Instead of closing up shop, she filled in. There is obviously potential for this to be a higher rating under their normal operating day. I truly wanted to LOVE the desserts! All of the desserts are gorgeous to look at and super alluring! They make for really delightful photos, perfect for a Social Media post! The prices are reasonable. I appreciate the white plates and real spoons. It makes you feel like you are in a more upscale setting than when you are served with plastic utensils. Plus, I think it is more appropriate to eat your fine delicate desserts with! The seating arrangements are nice. I love the sets of purple & red chairs. They look so plush and would be the perfect place to have your tea! We were greeted as we entered and we chatted with the lady who was still getting things ready for the day. I wouldn't recommend coming here as soon as they open for the day. Some of the pastries are frozen and need to be thawed. I think it was the pig & bear (or everything) that were in need of some time to thaw and would be ready to serve in a bit. I tried to redeem my Yelp Check-In Offer for a free Lemon Iced Tea. The dessert shop has cute decor and has clean seating areas. Service is fast, you order, select your seats and they bring you the desserts. We got the lychee bunny and the matcha tiramisu. Both desserts were tasty, but not the best I've had. I would say, while they were delicious, they looked even better. The lychee bunny had bits of frozen lychee jelly in the middle. The matcha tiramisu was mostly mascarpone. I would have preferred having some more lady finger for a texture change. Overall, the desserts looked better than they tasted. This is the most cute dessert place I've been to in OC and they taste so delicious. Freshly made, with high quality, tastes extra creamy, and milky fresh. I am a big fan of durian and love their durian mousse so much, filled with fresh durian inside, it's a real heaven. Their flaming cha cha is the best matcha crème brûlée I ever had, very earthy, nice crunch on top and super matcha flavor inside. And It came with fire, was a nice show! For tea, I like their blooming flower tea, with cute tea cup sets, very joyful to see the flower bloom in the water. The staff recommended butterfly tea, super beautiful tasty refreshing. We also tried their signature dessert- Hypnosis, with cream, fruit, and jelly on it, which came with a smooth, great presentation, and tasted delicious. Cute setting, comfy cushions, and instagrammable desserts. What more could a girl ask for? If you're the type of person who likes desserts that aren't too sweet, The Spoon is the place for you. They've got a variety of flavors with Asian roots such as lychee and durian in cute presentations (rabbit, bear?) Dessert aside, we were blown away by how good the lemon tea (complimentary with yelp check in) was. I could tell from the frothy top that it was hand shaken and I gambled requesting the lemon tea without adjusting the sugar; it was perfect. It was so good that when my friend tried it off of me, she checked in too lol. I'm a sucker for dry ice presentation so ordered the deconstructed dessert. It's not on the printed menu but they had a photo of it on a flyer holder so I was happily able to point to it. The cream was delicious in flavor and they kept you on yours toes with parmesan crisps and mysterious crunchy blue sugar. The fruit swirl was very icy and refreshing as well. Shout out to Les S. for putting The Spoon on my radar. I love cute cakes so this is heaven for me. They are located in a plaza tucked next to a residential area. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Great variety of small individual size cakes as well as a few bigger cakes to purchase for celebrations. Complimentary Lemon Iced Tea ($4.50 value) with Yelp check in. I started off ordering the Thai Tea Panna Cotta ($7) and a Yuzu Mango Mousse ($8). If I stopped there, they would have gotten a better rating, but I saw this picture and I inquired. She said this is the Hypnosis and it is only available for dine-in. Well that's easy. I can dine in, if that's required. Well guess what? There was no price listed and I didn't find out until paying that it was $20.50. YIKES!! Thai Tea Panna Cotta - Love it! The Thai tea flavor comes through well. Texture is smooth and creamy, just as a panna cotta should be. My one complaint is the garnish. I'm not taking it against them but more for feedback to ownership the weird garnish piece tasted stale and gross and messed up my tastebuds. You can easily make a cute chocolate garnish that is tasty too. Yuzu Mango Mousse - The yuzu was great. Didn't love the mango or the cake-base, but the yuzu mousse top layer was great. Hypnosis - Served on a platform where it's cloudy in effects, which might be why they are overcharging for it. It's a smear of panna cotta, which I did not like as much. There was a spiral thing that tasted like the gelatin ratio was too high and it was chewy and reminded me like fruit roll up. The original photo had figs, which she ran out of and warned me that she swaps for guava but the guava flavor did not work with everything else. I think it would have tasted better with the figs and that's the only reason I'm not being too harsh on them. A raspberry cut in two. And more of those random stale garnishes. I did not like any elements of the hypnosis which is such a shock when I really enjoyed their little cakes. The morale of the story... stick to the cute little cakes. Had I not ordered that awful Hypnosis this would have easily been a 5 star but I have to evaluate based on my experience and I cannot honestly give it anything higher than a 4 star. Came here on a Sunday around 1:20pm. It was pretty busy so wait to order to actually get our order was 30-40 minutes. The employees were also lost finding the customers since they bring it to you and had no intercom adding more wait time. Parking in lot was small and seating was limited due to it being busy. Was able to pick up a durian cake the same day that I needed it. The prices are so reasonable and the cakes are beautiful. When I showed up, the staff confirmed the cake for me and packaged it up securely. Everyone at the party enjoyed the cake and said it was especially flavorful and packed with actual durian fruit. I had to exit the parking lot and come around again. Once inside, it was really dead. We ordered two desserts and one drink. I got the nutella bear with some sparkling jelly drink. My cousin's daughter got the green tea tiramisu. The tiramisu was terrible. It was hard and too chilled. The flavor wasn't great either. Both of us thought it was a complete fail. I didn't really like my drink, but I finished it because it wasn't cheap. I thought the nutella bear was cute. It was a nice pudding and had little bits of crunchiness in it. It was almost $9 -- pretty steep for what it was - but it was the only thing worth anything out of what we got. This place earns a solid 4 stars to me. I saw this place online and wanted to stop by to get some work done and enjoy drinks and desserts. Upon entering you'll see the display of various mini cakes to try and they also have full size cakes. I kept it simple and asked what was popular and was given a few choices. I went for the ube cheesecake, a vietnamese iced coffee, and did a yelp check in for a free lemon iced tea. It wasn't until I sat down that I looked at my receipt and realized I was charged for the iced tea. I brought this up to the employee and he was able to take care of it, no problem. Unfortunately there wasn't any visible outlets so this isn't a great place to study, but the boss? went above and beyond and got me an extension cord so I can plug in my technology. That's great service. In terms of the items I got, my review is the coffee and tea were very decent. It took awhile for the drinks to come out which makes me feel the drinks are made to order which is a good thing. The ube cheesecake was okay, presentation and flavor was decent but the temperature its being stored in makes the inside part noticeably icy and its a tiny cake. 4 small bites and you'll be done. I will probably try a variety of mini cakes next time or their other desserts that come out in smoking plates. So all in all I would come back and try more and study here.
