First off, the decor. Great job to whoever designed this place. On to the food. We got the yuzu mango mousse cake and the melona honeydew coco cake. I'd give the yuzu cake a 4/5. It was tangy, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet (on a scale of 1-10, it would be like a 6). The honeydew cake was probably like a 3/5. It was about a year ago I found this dessert establishment on Instagram. While waiting for traffic to lightening up on rainy day to return to San Diego I decided to stop by here. There were several reason why I wanted to come here base on what I saw on Instagram. First the Nutella Bear, the smoked (dry ice) plated desserts, and the blooming tea. Upon arrival to the location I saw cute, simple decor. The vibe was relaxed. There was a group at a large table and us in the establishment. When it was time to order I didn't see any plated desserts that were appetizing. Also, the establishment no longer offers dry ice to the plated desserts, so that was disappointing to learn. I ordered the Nutella Bear, a blooming tea, and the Durian Mousse. The Nutella was smooth, creamy, light, and just sweet enough. It was very good. The blooming tea was served in a clear tea pot. The flowers were aromatic and beautiful. My partner would have preferred the teapot served without the hot water so I could had the full experience of pouring the water my self in the pot to see the flowers bloom. Drinking the tea right away was great. As the flowers steep longer the taste of the tea becomes intensely floral. He enjoyed the Durian Mousse. It does have an acquire, earthy taste. I enjoyed the bite I had, yet I don't know if I would order and eat the whole dessert. I ordered myself a second dessert. The Ube Cheesecake. That was wonderful! Best girl's dessert outing ever. We were thinking of places to go after the gym and this was the perfect place. It's so cute inside, you feel like you're at a tea party. They have so many desserts to choose from and cute character ones as well. We had a nut-allergy friend and she was able to have many options there as well. Fun, tasty, unique. Staff is nice. Seats are okay, tables are not comfortable because they are so low and far from the fancy seats. They need to be a good 12" taller to be able to eat from when sharing. If eating solo you can pick up the saucer and eat your dessert like you would hold a tea cup and saucer. I'd put it at $$ price. I went there looking for specialty desserts for one of my best friends birthdays. I used yelp and found The Spoon. Every dessert they make look spectacular. When I mentioned to the lady that it needed to be transported as I was going to be bringing these treats to my friend, she packed them up so nicely for me and gave me frozen ones on their own little pads, stuck to the bottom of the boxes so nothing would connect as I drove them to my friends house. They made it unscathed and every single one we tried was absolutely amazing! I know they're a little pricey, but for special occasions, it's a well worth it! Cute ambiance, great service, and tasty treats - all presented beautifully. The ice cream was shaped so cute (a sleeping teddy bear) that my son felt bad getting it to eat (we can work on that later - eat the bear!), but he loved both cheesecake flavors and I enjoyed them along with the coffee. Was searching Yelp to see what has durian and found this spot. Upon entering, u see glass cases full of the most beautifully decorated desserts. Some of the larger cakes are so pretty I wouldn't want to cut into them. The restaurant itself is cute and decorated in a modern style. There are comfy couches to sit on our booths along the wall. Even the walls were textured with large flower pattern. The service is top notch. The owner took time to explain everything and the different flavors in the desserts. When I see the words contemporary dessert, I automatically think of tiny, expensive desserts that look really good but don't taste all that great. This place fits the description, with the exception of last part. Everything I tried tasted excellent, and my whole family loved everything I got. All the items had a gelatin outer layer with sponge cake and other fillings in the middle. All items had enough sweetness, and presentation was just superb. Guava Cheesecake is my favorite so far. It tasted just like the description and had guava jelly in the middle. Thai Tea Panna Cotta is a close second. Very smooth texture with perfect amount of Thai tea flavor. Banana Oreo Cheesecake was excellent as well. It tasted just like the description. My five-year old son was able to taste Oreo and banana without even knowing what it was when he ate it. Dulce De Leche Choco Mousse had the best presentation, but probably the least interesting flavor (at least for me). Also received some type of cream pop as a complimentary item. I think it was part of grand opening special. It had matcha filling, and outer layer tasted like strawberry (or maybe raspberry). Also a good item. Service was excellent. Decor is nice and elegant. 3/2/2023 3 1/2 Stars FIRST IMPRESSION Newly opened dessert café in Stanton. I parked at the side of the café. There was a side door right where I parked, but wanted to take a picture of the front. Surprised to find 4 large empty boxes and a small wooden plank right in front of the café's front doors! It was such an odd sight given the café was already opened and ready to receive customers. So I decided to turn around and walk in through the side door. They did not have a menu posted at the front nor did they offer a menu for me to look at. They just stood there waiting for me to order something when there's no menu. I just decided to order whatever they had in their display case. I asked and they do offer various ice teas and coffee. Cream pops are $3. The mini cakes prices ranged from $6 - $9. The whole cakes prices ranged from $35 - $45. The café had beautiful velvet armchairs, velvet sofas and small tables to place your coffee and ice teas and create Instagram photos. There were also slightly larger tables in the back. The ambiance was there and it was pretty to look at, yet it wasn't a space where various groups can come in and hang out comfortably. It wasn't created to be a hang out spot. Maybe a 2-3 friends can come in and take a quick photo type of spot. UBE CHEESECAKE It tastes like caramel. Can't taste the ube or the cream cheese. The outer consistency is jello-like and jiggly. The inside texture is more of a mousse than a cheesecake. There was also a thin layer of vanilla spongecake. So it was confusing because the name is different from the actual taste, flavor, and consistency. Overall I liked the flavor, but it's not ube nor is it cheesecake. OREO JASMINE MOUSSE It tastes like a fruity and creamy peach. You know those fake peach flavors in drinks. It's not completely a peach flavor, but it has a refreshing, light peach and fruity flavor. No jasmine present at all. There was an oreo cookie in the center. Only the outside chocolate cookie layer. Strangely the fruity and oreo flavor worked well together. This was my second favorite. DURIAN MOUSSE Tastes like durian as expected. Same like the other cakes, it had a jello-like texture and exterior. Inside is spongecake and a small sliver of durian fruit pieces in it. But small enough where you can miss it. MATCHA TIRAMISU Not a tiramisu. Nothing about it is tiramisu. Not sure why it's named that way. However, it does taste like matcha. But not the Japanese matcha strong bitter flavor. It is sweet, light sponge in the center. It's a bit gooey and with the outward jello-consistency, the overall mouthfeel is jello-like and mushy cheesecake-like consistency. This is my least favorite out of the five cakes I've tried. GANACHE DULCE LE LECHE This cake was given as a complimentary /  promotional item! This is the best one out of the five cakes I've tried. It delivers in name, taste, and consistency. Chocolatey,  fudgy ganache and a bit of chocolate sponge cake. I like that there's a variety in cake selections, but the cakes I've tried so far did not live up to my expectations. For the price, it should have been better. All the mini cakes I've tried except the Ganache Dulce Le Leche, all had similar jello-like textures and had thin layers of sponge cake. I'm not sure what I was eating most of the time. The flavors weren't bad, but I'm confused to what I did eat. For those who want to try, give it a try. At least the cakes look pretty. CUSTOMER SERVICE There were two Asian women working there. I assumed were the owners. However, I did not ask, so I'm not 100% sure. Overall, good customer service and everyone was polite. The strawberry pistachio mousse is the best!! We came during a quieter night but it's great setting for large parties.

Went here from all the IG hype to try them out. Based on photos the desserts look so fancy and beautiful. We needed to get a dessert cake for a dinner we had planned for the evening so I was excited to try them out. I was already questioning the freshness of their food based on reviews I read that the miniature cakes they ordered didn't seem fresh because there were cracks already in the shapes of the desserts when it was served to them indicating the desserts weren't super fresh. Also I read pricing for the desserts were higher than it's worth since the desserts are more mousse and very little actual cake. I can surely agree with previous posts because when I asked about the larger cakes since I didn't see them in the display case they said it was in the back and frozen (???? Sus for sure). But I needed to get a dessert cake as dinner was in 5 hours and I knew hubs didn't want to drive around to another bakery especially with Porto's down the street. I chose the small lychee cake for $36 that serves 5-6. While there my daughter saw the animal shaped desserts and chose the $9 lychee mousse pigs while I wanted to also try the ube cheesecake since that was top popular picks based on clerks reply. In total we spent $70+ on a small lychee cake, 2 pig lychee mousse, 1 mini ube cheesecake, and 1 lychee tea. We were quite disappointed in all the desserts. The ube cheesecake had very little cake and mostly all mousse, no cheese texture/flavor at all...the pig lychee mousse cake had no cake at all, it was primarily all mousse with a few bits of lychee jelly. The lychee cake was the same way, only a quarter was cake wrapping the center for the lychee jelly/fruit. The rest was all mousse and the mousse had no lychee flavor to it. The only positive for The Spoon is the very kind/helpful staff & exquisite decorating of the desserts. The guy in the back preparing the lychee cake asked if we wanted a different color than pink for the cake which my daughter quickly shouted out blue when that was an option.
