It has been a while since I have been here and since I have been really busy with work the past few days, I thought I would jump in and write my feelings on this bar. Interesting crowd, to say the least...20 to 50 somethings...a bit of attitude (which I completely do NOT understand) a small outdoor patio for the smokers...nice enough bartenders (they pour a decent drink too!) and they really try to get to you quickly (which is always a plus when one wants a drink). Back to the customers...do I have too? Yes, I have too! This is Long Beach folks...NOT West Hollywood...what is with the attitude? Every time I come here it is the same BS...snotty little 20 somethings looking for a one night stand (good luck!)... 30 somethings just looking for anything they can get and 40 and 50 somethings hoping for anything that will get them laid...and if not, just sitting around, or standing, drinking themselves to death...sad... On the brighter side (?), I only go here with friends...this way I am assured that someone will at least talk to me while I am there...I did go (once) by myself...big mistake...I was here for about 3 hours (why I do not know) and the only person that talked to me was the bartender, when he wasn't busy. Listen, folks, I am a very friendly guy and I love a good conversation but, this is not the place for that (I guess). There are better places to go than here...however, I will still give this place a firm 3 stars for it's popularity...and good bartenders. read more

This is in response to jennifer p's comment. Let me start by saying that I have been a regular at the Silver Fox for the past 10 years. It is simply my favorite spot for drinks, music, and conversation. I was also there the night jennifer p had her incident. When the other customer discovered her wallet was missing we ALL were asked if we had seen it. Jennifer P had walked out front and the bartender went to ask her about it. She then exploded. We could hear her yelling inside the bar. The girl who's wallet was missing told the bartender to let it go and everyone returned inside. About a minute later jennifer p came back into the bar to confront the other girl. The bartender asked her to leave while she continued to scream expletives. She refused to leave and then slapped the bartender across the face. Nobody chased her out. When you assault someone, you will be escorted out. No questions. And yes, she should be embarrassed by her actions. That said, this was not a normal night at the Silver Fox. It usually goes like this: daily happy hour prices are cheap and the drinks are stiffer than anything you'll find in Weho. There's a birthday jackpot drawing at 7pm every night. I've won it once and got almost $300! Karaoke on Sundays & Wednesdays can get quite packed. Tuesdays are the best day for drinks because they are 2-for-1 all night long. DJs on Friday & Saturday and dancing sometimes happens when the right group of people are there. Holiday parties are always busy especially Halloween & Christmas. For Christmas there is a huge (free) buffet for all customers that donate toys to Toys 4 Tots. And unlike many other LB bars, parking is available in the lot across the street. I find it funny that a lot of reviews say this is a bar for older men. I guess if most of those Yelpers are 21-25 then yes, there are "older" men here. I've been a customer since my early 30s and have made many friends here. Yes the carpet is "colorful", yes the bathrooms are ready for an update, and yes sometimes the A/C needs to be turned on full blast. More importantly, for me, the people there are good people. People from all walks of life. People of all ages. People who know my name. And isn't that where everybody wants to go? Cue the "Cheers" opening music ... read more

from a straight guy. this bar is a riot. i used to go with my ex girlfreind, her roomate dave would go and rock that places kareoke every wednes ( i think was the day) and it was buy one get one free drinks. The drinks are STRONG.. not like, oh that has bite, but strong like their may not be a need for a 4rth round. I have no problem going to a gay bar (well, as long as i've got my girl with me) and this one i've been to plenty of times. Outdoor area to smoke in, and you can bring your drinks out there as well. all in all a good bar, gay or straight. check out the kareoke , it's entertaining as hell. It's my local bar - literally around the corner from my apartment so it's very convenient for me to go. It's not as classy decor as Costa Mesa's Tin Lizzie. It looks like a a highschool musical backdrop for guys musical revue. It's sort of dirty and the bathrooms are icky. Drinks are cheap and on Tuesday's, it's Buy One Drink, Get the 2nd for 25Cents. The music is danceable as they play a constant stream of Britney, Cher, Rhianna, Fergie, Christina, Gwen and Janet [you get my drift] music videos on flat screens. There's a patio in the back but you can't take your drink. It's alright for when I need a stiff drink. read more

Beautiful on the outside, comfortable and welcoming on the inside. They play music videos at a good sound level, the crowd is friendly and welcoming and the bartenders (except for one) are super friendly. This is a great place to go have an adult beverage and relax, chat with people -or not- and enjoy it. I recently moved into the neighborhood and so of course stopped in for a drink and the opportunity to meet some new people. Everyone there was very welcoming and it's now my new favorite place to hang out. I stopped in the other night with 3 girl friends and they were treated with the same friendliness and respect. Amazing place with amazing staff. Strongest drinks in Long Beach. Can't ask for more then that.

Been twice. Not impressed. NO parking DRINKS are not very good. (tasted like paint thinner) STAFF/barbacks were extremely rude and stuck up. There is no need for uninvoked sarcasm and rudeness, especially from people who try to make you think they are from Malibu when they act like they're from Compton. (karaoke Selection is mediocre at best) I advise to skip it and go to the Brit, Hamburger Mary's or Piston's read more

But let me say for the positive that the bartenders pour a stiff drink, they are always friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Why all the neg press for Silver Fox? As bad as the lighting, the carpeting, and oh god that front is awful, the Fox is not without its charms (e.g. hot bartenders and funny drunk ass old guys). Drinks are strong and not so expensive. read more

Tried this out on a Saturday night after midnight; decent crowd and 50/50 guys and gals (mostly straight), good service from the bar. Nothing special, $4.50 domestic beers seems to be the rule in Long Beach, a little steep from what I'm used to. I'd give it another try though. read more

Out-of-town travelers who visited on a Saturday night. Easy to find, and free parking across the street (though I was told that lot might become a medical marijuana store...). Nice, comfortable atmosphere, huge selection, great music/videos (although maybe just a little too loud when you're trying to chat with anyone). And last but not least, Felix and Sky were the fastest, hardest working bartenders I've ever seen, anywhere. They did it all, and still found time to chat with us and make us feel welcome. I can't really figure out how I truly feel about the Silver Fox --- I mean it's not as if there's anything so bad that would stop me from coming back, but at the same time, I don't really see myself in rush to go back either. My friend told me about their karaoke nights (Sunday & Wednesday nights), and being a huge sucker for karaoke, I knew I had to check it out myself. From the outside, The Silver Fox looks like a really nice, modern place, but once you get in you realize it looks just like any outdated bar. But if you're not too picky about that kind of stuff like me, it shouldn't bother you at all. The bouncers are super friendly --- I've never had a problem with them, and so are the bartenders! They are extra generous when it comes to smiles and alcohol. As for the crowd and the karaoke night, again I have mixed feelings. Everyone here seems to know each other, so if it's your first time there and you're not in a big group, you may feel out of the loop. But from my experience, a lot of people were more than willing to get to know you. It's definitely not a place to find a hookup, rather it's more of a kick back, relax, and socialize type of place. The crowd is very supportive of whoever is singing, even though it seems like they're not paying attention. While they have a good collection of songs (updated), and they seem to cycle through everyone quickly, I've been to other karaoke bars where I was a lot more comfortable. Maybe I should have had more to drink before I went on stage, but I always feel like there's a glass wall between me and the crowd --- maybe it's just harder to entertain the gays, I probably need to step up my game. My only major complaint is the bathroom. All I can say is I feel sorry for the ladies. Next time, I think I'll come with a bigger group of people. I definitely recommend everyone to try this place out once, maybe we'll run into each other sometime. read more

First time at this bar last night and first gay bar I've been to in LB. Guys were really nice and the bartenders weren't pretentious douchebags. Not a lot of dancing, but more of a mingling crowd. Nice patio out back for some fresh air. Mixed crowd and interesting people. Drink prices were half the price of Weho! Will be visiting again :) read more

Great crowd! A majority are males though, not so many females. The bartender Steve/n (I think it was) concocts any drink you want, he's a genius! I had a pineapple upside cake cocktail, perfectly mixed and shaken. Also had an appletini which he made tart and sweet. Yes as everyone has said, the bathrooms are gross, but most bar bathrooms are and when your drunk it matters a lot less. The outside of the building is gorgeous art deco. The inside is just like any other bar really except EVERYONE is so nice, bartenders and customers. I love 'em all. I have never had a bad time here. read more

I've had many a good time at the Fox over the years. It's a great place to go for a quiet drink or a party if you want one. I especially enjoy Todd singing on certain days of the month. They used to have this Blake guy that was TERRIBLE but now that he's gone I can enjoy my Fridays again. read more

I had forgotten what a great place The Silver Fox is to just kick back and have drinks. I had not been there for a while because I was going to WeHo. But when I went there recently, I got a huge welcome and hug from John B., the manager/bartender. Just because John recognized me, he took the time to ask me where I'd been, how I was doing and treated me like an old friend he had not seen for some time. John was extremely welcoming and I remembered how he, and the entire Silver Fox staff, has always been friendly and treated customers well. I really had forgotten what a comfortable, welcoming gay bar I have right here in Long Beach--without the need to head all the way to WeHo. I will definitely be heading to the Fox more often! read more

I'm from San Francisco and popped in with some local friends. Sky was our bartends and was a great guy.

Have been here sporadically over the years and came here on a Saturday night. They had a DJ that seemed more impressed with his music than the crowd did. It was more appropriate for an ethnic, younger crowd than what was present. I would like to see someone in the regular DJ booth with just current hits and some oldies. I went there Monday night for a couple of drinks with a friend, late through the night some drunk girl who sat 10 feet away from me lost her wallet, or maybe never brought it in since the first place, blamed me of taking it and the bartender too, it was the most embarrassing moment of my life!! they research my purse which by the way its illegal !!!! they chase me out to my car and called me a thief, it was so horrible i cannot believe what they did!!! Great atmosphere! It's mostly more mature men but still fun. The staff are very friendly drinks are cheap, but strong. I too hadn't been to this place in a while and I'm so glad I took a chance and paid them a visit recently. It was quiet night (mid-week) and the ambience was nice and relaxed with the staff being very friendly and welcoming (Sky, the bartender that night, was particularly cool and also proved to be a real master when it comes to mixing some fantastic drinks!) Nice bar, older men who like to look at younger men. They provide great music and videos. Also known as "The Brutal Poodle" i am not sure what that means, it is one if not the cleanest bars in long beach.
