We came with a group for some eats and drinks. The service throughout was attentive and friendly. I ordered the beef dip, and it was good. A few weeks later, I was back before a concert. The service was slower, and one of my friends had an issue with her food so it took longer to get the food and finish so that we could head to the concert. We stopped by Sherlock Holmes Pub for brunch on a Saturday during St. Patrick's Day weekend, and it was a great experience. It wasn't too busy around noon, and our server was super friendly, welcoming, and gave us excellent service right from the start. They offered a brunch menu that runs until 2 PM, which was a nice surprise. I tried the Eggs Benedict Yorkshire--a unique twist with scrambled eggs and a cheesy-style hollandaise. It was rich, flavorful, and surprisingly good. My wife had the Eggs and Bangers, and she especially loved the potatoes that came with it. We also ordered a couple of Caesars, which were perfectly mixed and really hit the spot. Overall, we had a great time. Cozy atmosphere, good food, great drinks, and fantastic service. Classic old school pub here. Great dive atmosphere for any time of day. Plenty of beer options to choose from and some good deals. Food is stick to your ribs tasty too. I had a shepherds pie and a buffalo chicken Cesar wrap another day. Shepherds pie was delicious, I'm a fat boy and coated it with some gravy to plus it up and it was choice. Buffalo wrap wasn't Buffalo-y enough for me but it was still tasty. Definitely stop in for a beer and meal. Can't really go wrong with either. Not sure about parking cause I was walking around town. Plenty of space and tables or you can belly up to the bar. They have a few TVs for sports as well. read more

Came here after dining at the Share restaurant inside The Westin Edmonton. This place has a great vibe to grab a pint. It definitely reminded me of the pub in London called Sherlock Holmes, which is a favorite of mine! I strolled around inside to check out the memorabilia and ended up sitting at the bar. The patio was full since it was a beautiful day outside. So, after making small talk with the bartender and settling the bill, I was off to check out the rest of the town. It's been several years since I've been here. The atmosphere is better than the food. Service at the bar is good and the beer selection is fine. If most of your menu is burgers, at least do them really well. Bun has obviously been frozen and thawed as it was still cold and wet on top. Burger was too small for the bun. No spice at all on the spicy burger. Paid extra for sweet potato fries. I could count them on my two hands. It's a cool spot and a good location but can you up your food game a little? read more

Went for patio dining when the weather was decent. They have a nice patio on a fairly quiet street, so it was pleasant. Or server was prompt and friendly. Basic British pub food. Nothing too exotic but I think most people will find something they like. We were feeling snackish so we ordered the buffalo cauliflower and the nachos that were a special. Food came in a timely manner. The cauliflower was AMAZING. Perfectly cooked, well spiced and the coconut chutney was an good pairing. I love buffalo cauliflower and order it often, this was probably my favourite in the city. The nachos were okay, but they were skimpy on the cheese (see photo). I did like that the toppings of veggies were fresh and plentiful. I also had a beer which paired well with the food. Wow. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this sherlock's. I have been going here for quite some time being a downtown worker, I have been for lunch, after-work, patio and weekend. Everytime is good. Really good. We go here because we know the fish and chips will be good. The Guinness will be cold. All the food is hot and exceeds your pub food expectations. The live entertainment is always excellent and in my experience stuff you know and can sing along too, full on pub-style with east coast and Celtic, folky and rock-y too. There is literally almost no parking. That's a drawback. But park in a parade and walk in. Everything is wooden and seems vintage. A place you can go that seems homey and solid. Love it! read more

We ate on the patio on a nice summer evening. I had the firecracker burger with a side of poutine (with vegan gravy) and my wife had the Mac & cheese. We both also got cocktails (I think it was called the Cape Codder?). Everything was really tasty and the service was great. There are three Sherlock Holmes Pubs in the greater Edmonton area and yesterday five of us had lunch at the downtown location. The interior is very cool to look at with an explosion of stuff on the walls and the ceiling - advertising signs, street signs, papers and posters. Our server, Laurel, was super friendly and promptly took our drink orders and answered menu questions. I ordered a glass of the house beer -Sherlock's Lager ($5.24) and it was very good- light and refreshing. They have some British menu choices like Bangers and Mash ($15) and Shepherd's Pie ($15), plus a whole lot of salads, pub appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. I wasn't very hungry so went with a Taco Salad ($12) that came with ancho-lime dressing, greens, sweet corn, black beans, diced tomato, cheese blend, salsa and chips. I passed on the included sour cream, and the add-ons -guacamole ($3) and ground beef/chicken ($4) or salmon ($6). I did sample someone's small order of Poutine ($8) and that was very very very good! Great little spot. Over the years still just a great place to eat and have some drinks. Service was fantastic. When we got there they had some live music that was really good and not overly loud and dominating which was nice on a Saturday afternoon. We tried their special which was chicken thighs (supposed to be like chicken wings) they were good just lacked flavour. But I would order them again just a different flavour. I got the red Thai curry hoping for some heat and there was none. My friend got the steak spice ones and he loved them. The beer was great! Just another great time and a great spot! read more

Be forewarned, this place can be REALLY PACKED at lunch time and parking can be difficult to find downtown! They make great fish and chips and shepard's pie... and if you're lucky enough to be there on a day they are serving their homemade clam chowder, you are in for a treat! Countless business men and women flock within its sunny, ivy lined boarders as soon as the spring snow clears and they stay there until that last leaf hits the side walk of Rice Howard Way. The food is ok; it is just a pub! The draft is cold, the shots hard and the music (often live) is loud. Sherlock's never tries to be anything more then it is supposed to be. This, by most definitions, is the classic neighborhood pub. The character is off the charts with that house turned English pub feel. This is probably Edmonton pub mecca because it has been around so long. And with the Westin, Hotel Mac, Mariott and Shaw Conference Centre nearby it's also where out-of-towners end up because of proximity and the fact that it is open until 2 am the right nights including the all important Sunday. That being said the beer menu is nothing to get excited about and the food is average in my opinion. I had the Sunday roast beef dinner special. It was ok, but nothing special. Given my options, I am much more inclined to head to the Underground. But in terms of character, you'll find it here. And if you want to increase your chances you'll bump into an out-of-town NHL or CFL player then this is your place (a lot of the teams find themselves staying at the Westin). read more

This quaint little pub is nestled in the heart of bustling down town, hidden away on Rice Howard Way. If you didn't know this place was here, you would probably never have the chance to enjoy this cozy little spot. I just so happen to live stumbling distance away, so I thought I'd pop in one night and have a drink. Warm and inviting, Sherlock Holmes is the perfect little pub. When I walked in I was immediately hugged by its beautifully lit Christmas garland and tastefully decorated walls. It was like a children's gift shop, except for big kids! I pulled up a chair at the bar and was immediately greeted by one of the bartenders. He smiled and asked what I'd like to drink. Having never been here before I asked for a suggestion on their beers on tap. He, being a great bartender pried a little more and suggested something to my taste. It was a little late, and I was feeling peckish so I asked for a menu. Alex (the bartender) told me they were on a limited late night menu and provided me with their menu. For a late night menu it was pretty vast. I decided on pizza! Moments later it arrived, hot and bubbly! Certainly not skimping on the toppings, this zza was loaded! I didn't have to ask for flatware, chillies or Parmesan. It was already there for me! Proof that your neighbourhood pub can provide! It was, quite honestly one of the best pizzas I've had in the city! Crispy crust, easy sauce and lots of toppings and cheese. I will certainly be back for it again! Attentive throughout my visit, Alex certainly went above and beyond. He must have picked up in our conversation that I work in the industry, because he mentioned their generous industry discount. Ambiance: From the outside in, it truly felt like I was in London, or at least what I envision London to be like since I've never been. I'm talking about a lit-up silhouette of a detective and a red telephone booth (minus an actual telephone). Well, really only two things. Once inside, I wasn't paying much attention to exactly what was on the walls, but I'm sure they were more London memorabilia. The trippy thing is once you enter the cozy, two-story pub, hockey is plastered on every TV screen. Food: I ordered the chicken pot pie, which I thought would be Marie Callender's esque, but it turned out to be a half creamy, half watery chicken pot pie base with a flat, flakey croissant on top. There was no actual pie base - it was more like chicken pot + pie on top. It was...interesting, unexpected, and like nothing else I've ever had. Overall, I was not quite sure what to make of it. Regardless, I ate it all. I also ordered the poutine (I had to!), which are french fries with gravy and cheese. Apparently, the gravy is dark and beef-based, so I apologize if you're vegetarian. I actually liked the darker gravy, as I generally prefer darker gravy, but I wish it was a tad less thick. The cheese lard is like mozarella but harder - the texture and consistency tasted like small blocks of string cheese. The cheese itself was fine, I just wish it was actually melted and stringy. I've had better poutine in Vancouver, but it was one of the few restaurants we went to during our short visit that offered poutine. Didn't get a chance to try their beer, so no review on that, but the pub was pretty packed for a Wednesday night - both working people and families, for that matter. Interpret it as you will. Been here couple times just for a quiet bevy.. At the moment they have outside looking beautiful with Christmas decorations. The service is good and casual. The bar itself is a nice cosy English style bar. I've never eaten here so I can't comment on the food.. usually just a stop in for a quiet drink kinda place. The were set up for live music I seen a mic and guitar there we didn't stay that long to see what it would be like as the bar is quite small. Super cute decor in this cozy pub located in the heart of downtown. I've always walked by it and thought hey that's a cool building but only went in for the first time recently. Their menu at lunch has lots of public food and some English specials. I decided to try their sausage rolls as they were listed as a special and I was told they would be too heavy for lunch time. This is by far one of the best pubs in the city. There are many welcoming regulars, the staff is attentive and friendly. If there's a game on, that's what the TVs are tuned to, if not they have live music sometimes, other times the background music is decent. The upper level is great for private parties and is a bit quieter. It's a pretty small place upstairs - I think it holds about 20 people if all the tables are used. The main floor has seating around the bar, some two-seater tables, booths along the sides, additional bar seating. The appetizers are awesome - especially if you have a group of people and order the sampler. Outside is a patio which is open in the summer. I think I stayed here a bit too long but as the song that was playing as I arrived says, "Whatever gets you through the night, it's alright." read more
