O'Byrne's pub has great Irish fair. There food it really good pub food. Had their Irish breakfast it was very nice.

Stopped here on the Urban Pedal Tours (pedal bike tour). Sat on their very nice patio and had some drinks. Got the Vizzy bucket - 4 Vizzy Hard Seltzers which was nice it came in a bucket of ice so it stayed cold. Staff were very kind to our large group and service was good. read more

IMO the best Irish pub in Edmonton. Their food is great and even though they have many beers to select from I have to go with a Guinness every time I visit. The patio is great and is heated for the cooler days. They also allow kids until a certain time but I would say their menu isn't exactly kid friendly, my kids will get French fries if we visit. read more

Excellent. Wife and I went here on the weekend and really enjoyed this place. Starting with the ambiance. Really neat inside. Appears to be in an older building which adds to the character of an Irish Pub. We both had the fish and chips, and they were fantastic. Two big pieces of fish and nice crisp fries. I had the curry dipping sauce as a side and it was very tasty. I had the potato soup as an appetizer and it was very tasty as well. They have a small menu which I sometimes welcome as it makes decisions easier. Nice selection of beers on tap including ones from Ireland. The happy hour pints were only $4. The waiter we had provided excellent service which was prompt and friendly. Would defiantly go here again. The prices were excellent as well as we were surprised how small the bill was. For anyone reading this that might be thinking of opening up a pub in Red Deer, this is what Red Deer is missing! read more

O'Byrne's is a traditional Irish pub along the main strip of Whyte Avenue. From the music to the decor, O'Byrnes has got it right. It's a great place to drop by after work to relax with a beverage of choice -- needless to say, Guinness is on tap. There is also a full line of other beers and spirits. The menu is a small step above typical pub grub. Also with an Irish flavour, there are items traditionally found at these sorts of establishments intermixed with Irish dishes. I enjoyed a boxtie for supper one evening - a large potato pancake topped with beef, vegetables, and gravy. At another time, I had the "hangover breakfast" (even though I did not require it for medical purposes) - it was a generous helping of steak, eggs, and hash browns that served as my lunch, rather than breakfast. read more

Oh no something devastating is happening at this most awesome Irish pub. Been coming here for over a decade celebrating many friends birthdays & large events, spending literally thousands of dollars until now. Went there the other night with a very attractive friend of mine and we were treated like garbage. We are over 25 years old. Still sexy, still attractive & holding thick wallets. However, we were stuffed into a corner & were not in allowed to sit on the patio, or inside the bar or at the bar. When we were seated in the terrible location in the corner by ourselves in a giant empty room we said we rather wait back in line let somebody else have this table and then they said you have a choice of this table or that table both in the same empty area of the entrance to the bar, literally nobody in it. My friend and I at different times spoke to different people asking if we on the list for the patio or the bar or the restaurant area and they kept saying yes... my friend said well how am I on the list if you don't know my name? There is platinum blonde woman that works there, she's controlling all these girls and door people and training them to be disrespectful to loyal customers because of their age group. This is not the first time this is happened. I've been holding back to make a review because I love this establishment. I couldn't hold back any longer because I've never felt so uncomfortable and hurt and just totally discriminated against because I'm not 25 anymore. We would've spent tons of money there, both of us wanted to eat dinner we wanted to buy drinks and instead we had one pint and left. It was so discouraging and so prejudiced and so hurtful. I just can not believe this is happening. I called ahead of time and actually spoke to the male manager before we came and he said there were tables inside the bar that were available. We left the house immediately and were there within 15 minutes. Every table that I pointed out that was empty they pretended that somebody was there, every time we said we were seeing literally dozens of people walk in here they would pretend that they knew people already in the bar, the staff pretending and being told to pretend and lie to customers is totally insane. I don't understand what's going on there? What I was grateful for was that my friend was experiencing the same sadness and Hurt, the pain discrimination and rejection led to an internal rage, so I know it was not just me my imagination or making things up in my head. Young person after person after person after person literally dozens of people were flowing into the bar and they were getting seated inside the bar, at the bar, and at the patio. Even when we brought this up and reminded them that we offered to go back in line it didn't matter. We were told sorry, theses are the only you two get to sit at. In addition to that the waitress didn't come and ask us if we wanted another drink or want food even though they gave us menus to eat very very very very very bad / questionable behaviour going on there. There were even two other girls that were seated in the same empty place after we were and they also left. This is absolutely devastating and so out of character for this bar. I need people to know how hurtful it was to be treated like a literal trash. What's devastating is since this pandemic has hit I and at least 20 other friends have come at every opportunity we can to support the business. And this is how we were paid back for our loyalty. read more

The best Irish British pub in Edmonton. Reminds me of the Ottawa pubs. Low ceilings, dark wood trim, brick, lots of nooks and crannies. Really cool space. Nice aesthetic for Edmonton. Burgers, salads and Irish fare. Beer prices are reasonable. Personable staff. They now have TV screens for sports. They have a patio but it's kind of in an alley. They have live music at least once a week. read more

2.5 stars. So I have gone here for years and years and years. It was my favourite Irish pub and I loved hanging out on the patio or the lovely restaurant and having a pint and talking into the wee hours. And then, maybe 5ish years ago, my friends and I found that there was a shift in the place. New management? Tired management? not sure. The food came out sloppy. Maybe there was more competition (Fionn MacCool's and Duggan's Boundary Irish Pub?) And if it was the food that would be one thing, it was the service that took a huge dive. Not enough servers, and the servers we had were either overwhelmed or rude. Three years ago my girlfriends and I who always go during the Fringe for a drink and food there vowed never again after our server was snippy to us without being provoked and our food came out lukewarm. I love good Celtic music so my husband and I decided to venture there for a date. The music was wonderful. Really worth going to if you love that sort of thing. We will probably be back. We didn't even bother with the food and just ordered a few pints. Our server was pleasant enough but it took her forever (on a non busy Tuesday night) to get to our table to begin with and then back. It was clear she had way too many tables to serve. It is sad. It is sad that many of my friends who love genuine Irish food, atmosphere, and music have gone to other places. We go to Duggan's Boundary Irish Pub ourselves when we want good service, food and welcoming. This is a decent place to go to if you are bumbling around Whyte Ave and need a pint. But if you want real Irish hospital seek somewhere else. I hope for the sake of the institution O'Byrne's created and for the people themselves, they relook at how they are doing things. Perhaps they are making enough money to do well enough on the weekends with the bar hoppers, but I didn't think this place was about that. And I have hopes that it can change. read more

My friend and I had tickets to see a show last month (live theatre for the first time in overa year) and we stopped at O'Byrne's for dinnner. I find Irish pubs are a good go to for a casual dinner or drinks. Obviously, they got Guinness, and Jameson's on the drink menu, but there are plenty of other drinks as well. There's fish and chips, burgers, stew bit what really got me excited was seeing 3 in 1 on the menu. I lived in Ireland for a bit and 3 in 1 was always on the menu at Chinese takeaways. It's basically rice, chips (a.k.a what we think of as fries), and curry sauce. You can add chicken balls to make it 4 in 1. I didn't get this dish because the curry sauce has dairy in it (waiter checked for me) and I didn't have any lactose pills (joys of being lactose intolerant). But seeing it reminded me a bit of my time in Ireland. They also have a full Irish breakfast available all day with white and black pudding (the meat kind, not the dessert kind) which again reminds me of Ireland. Full Irish breakfasts are quite a lot of food, and not something I was in the mood for, so I opted for the lamb burger, which was delicious. I also got a house lager on special for $4, which was great. Our waiter was very friendly and chatting we learned that O'Byrne's closes on Monday so their staff can have a break after the busy weekends (this is a pub right on Whyte Ave). I think that's great for the staff that they'll have a day off from work, but it's worth knowing if you stop by on a Monday this place won't be open. read more

Felt like some fish and chips and thought i' d give theirs a shot. Nice well appointed bar and good service. Had fish 'n chips and coffee. 2 decent sized chunks of cod with a nice plain breading . By that i mean not the greasy fluffy type a lot of places use .The pieces were heavy,tasty and filling which was nice. Came with tartar sauce and a small dish of cole slaw. The chips were real home made fries like we used to get off the fry wagon at home when i was a kid. Excellent. Decent coffee. read more

Going to O'Byrne's on a Saturday at midnight is completely different than being there at noon . When you go during the day, it's a fantastic place. Big sunny patios, fantastic prices. It would be a 4 star review. But go Saturday at midnight? It's like hanging out with a friend who's had far far too much to drink. Go home OBryrne's you're drunk. Overpriced drinks, I think with tax and tip about $20 for two kokanee, unattractive bar crowd....(so that's why there's no line up) and worst of all a very very very bad DJ. I've had the joys of working in the hospitality / bar world for a while (running an afterhours for over half a decade) in the past. And I can tell you the DJ was by far the worst I've heard in a long long time. I"m not going to knock the song choices (pretty much the same as you would hear as at the Pint or Hudsons) but the way he played them. He had the horrible tendencies to try and "mix them", but I know what a mix should sound like. I also know what a train wreck sounds like, and this DJ was the audio equivalent of Via Rail explosion. The mixing itself wasn't the worst it was the way he would.... cut off ...the song...before the...hook played out. It would be like reading this review and having....the food was really...that's where I saw the girl with the huge...entrance near the door don't....banana is the number ....bing bong......annnnnnnnnddd still mixing......illogically. Came here on may long Monday for a casual afternoon pint. Their patio was surprisingly calm given that it was a holiday. The service was prompt and their house radler is very good! Fries could use a little bit more salt but the curry sauce that came with them was surprisingly delicious. Bonus points because they serve full 20oz pints. read more

PORTOBELLO TRUFFLE BURGER 14 Portobello mushroom and truffle patty seared and parmesean crusted, topped with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and mayo and served on our homemade bun. AMAZING. The flavour that comes out of this burger is to die for. I of course didn't eat the bun but the mushroom/truffle burger was so packed with flavor I could have eaten 3 patties. So worth the trip to Whyte Ave just for this burger alone. Yummy! read more

Oh, O'Byrnes. I want to like you. I like Whyte, and I like your food (the Buffalo Chicken sandwich in particular). I like your space, especially your patio, and I like your drink special prices. I do not, however, like your service. It's consistently inconsistent, with a strong leaning toward sub-par. The last two times I've visited, my table has been sorely neglected despite the place being quiet. We've had to track down a waitress more than once, and when we do, there is no apology for the poor service. I selected a table directly adjacent to the pass-through at the bar the last time, hoping that the choice would pay off due to our being situated directly next to the servers area. They would have to keep an eye on us, right? Wrong. They did notice our table, but this didn't result in someone actually coming over to serve us. We left 10 minutes later without so much as a water glass brought to the table. I guess O'Byrnes knows that it's too big to fail - the crowds will come, regardless of the quality of service. For me, though, it seems wrong to throw money at an establishment where situations like the one described above are the norm. I will be choosing other (hungrier) businesses along the Ave; there are plenty of other pubby options. read more

I went here for lunch today with my Mom..it was a nice little pub, the food was tasty, the service was really good, and the atmosphere was really good. My mom had the potato soup and lambwhich..and I had the butter chicken curry with green onion cakes. The food was good and reasonably priced. O'Byrnes is my go-to place on Whyte. I have had my 18th, 19th, and 20th birthday celebrations there and will make it four years straight this summer coming up. I've never had a bad time no matter when I'm there. In a day and age where bars are crowded with over-drunk, obnoxious people with little if any respect for others O'Byrnes is on its own level. Everyone working there is always friendly, the Irish music is just the right volume to allow for talking and there certainly is a lot of that. It is also one of my favorite places to sit down for dinner. I ALWAYS order the "Fat Boy"... essentially a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches instead of buns. They're delicious every time, despite feeling like I am about to die after consuming. With more and more bars and pubs turning to the Lucky 13 business model of loud club music, flashing lights and huge dance floors, O'Byrnes is a breath of fresh air with comfortable booths, good food, good drinks and GREAT energy. I highly recommend it to any and all! read more

If it's warm enough outside and I happen to be down on Whyte Ave. I head over to O'Byrne's patio. It's one of only a few good patios on the commercial strip. There are lots of picnic tables and umbrellas and the western exposure makes it possible to tan all afternoon while quenching your thirst with a few cold bevvies. Good times and good friends flow together at this place, "enhanced" by the spirits. The Irish sure do it right. There's an atmosphere of conviviality in this place, and when the mercury rises everyone seems to catch the wave. (Or maybe it's just the beer.) The menu's pretty good. There is some good Irish grub but I've mostly sampled the appies. They have an amazing Guinness-infused poutine, the perfect treat for a wee hangover. read more

Has a nice Irish pub feel. Has lots of space on the inside. There's an upstairs and a back area. We went upstairs first but it was too hot up there so then we found a table in the corner by the hostess counter. We sat down, there was 3 of us. We ordered our drinks and luckily we got that rather quickly. However I ordered a Ceaser chicken salad, my friends ordered steak bites and hot wings. We set there drinking our drinks and didn't realize that the food was taking forever until we were on our third round of drinks. At which time we asked the server what was going on with our food. That was when she told us that there was a large party ahead of us. Which fine, but it would've been nice for her to have told us that before we had to ask. Because we were drinking so much, I asked if we could order some fries hoping that it would come out quick. Which I guess it did come out before our other food. But at the end of the day we sat there and waited over an hour before getting served. Which is really terrible because the food was actually good quality bar food. My chicken a good size piece of white chicken breast, that was nicely grilled. And the salad was nice and fresh, maybe a bit too much dressing but over all a good salad. The fries were good and my friends said their food was good as well. But we really couldn't get over the fact that the food took forever. read more

I love this place on Whyte! It is such a gem! Always busy always a great time! They have amazing food! I had the sweet potato fries - the basket was huge and tasty. I have also had the soup, and the bread it came with was amazing! The burgers are massive - although I have never had one... Service is excellent. I firmly disagree with the 3.5 star rating overall! This is my favorite pub on whyte Ave, and I'll tell you why. The decor is fantastic- the place is done up with household and other quirky items from Ireland. I think that alone is really cool! They also have some funky seating- old wooden tables and such, as well as some tall tables with a BUILT IN TAP. That's right folks. A tap at your table. What more could you ask for? You can also grab a huge table upstairs if you're coming with a group. The food is pretty standard pub food, but with some Irish specialties as well, and a lot of Guinness-infused items. That Irish stew is pretty epic. The staff are always so incredibly sweet. I've never had anything less than a fantastic experience with every employee I've run into. I highly recommend checking out open mic night- some of the talent here has blown me away, and is why I originally started coming. However, if you miss open mic, they often have some Irish music playing anyway- or at least some great feel good tunes (not top 40). The only downside is the bathrooms are out the back, and in kind of a separate part of The building, and you can't bring you drink. I've never been too bothered by that though- I like to stretch my legs now and then, and sometimes the bouncer will even keep an eye on your drink if he isn't too busy and you ask him real nice And this is why I say 3.5 stars is hooey, and you should go to O'Byrnes. read more

Tonight I went to O'Byrnes. I'm not sure my servers name, but she was very attentive, extremely nice and helped me pick out a good drink. I haven't been to a place in quite a while where I can actually say the server was really good. The food is pub food, all very good, and it's cool they have live music. Went here after going to the rack( see previous review) on august 5th. It was extremely busy but it was very easy to find somewhere to sit. All i have to say is the service was excellent and swift and it felt like we were at Molly Malone's back in Calgary. read more

We've had some great nights here.. late night fun Dj on a Saturday night with a small dance area beside the Dj box.. friendly door and bar staff.. Are in it one Sunday I have to say I prefer to just leave it as a late Saturday night drop in!! My low rating for O'Byrne's is only based on Friday/Saturday nights. I've been a couple of times in the past couple of months and not enjoyed it at all. They do that standard (and annoying) thing where they try to turn from pub-to-club on the weekends and it doesn't work. First of all, the layout of the bar is kind of confusing to me. The bar is quite big, but all the rooms are almost sectioned off like a house rather than a big open space. It gets so crowded in there it's almost impossible to move around comfortably. The DJs are hit and miss... I've heard some good hip hop and dance tunes, but then they'll be followed up by Spice Girls or some weird rock song. Not good flow. I was there last night and they were playing the Grease medley and other tunes you might hear at a wedding or junior high dance. And they play the music way too loud. Obviously it has to be a decent volume so people can dance and whatnot, but it's just deafening. You can't hear the person next to you who's screaming into your ear. There is a dance floor but I've never been on it! I know almost certainly that if I went to O'Byrne's on, let's say, a Wednesday night for a casual beer and maybe some food that my experience would be better and my rating would be higher. It's a nice, big place, but the pub-to-club thing just doesn't work for me here. read more

It seems that among my friends at MacEwan, O'Byrne's is a regular stop for "Wing's Night". On this occasion, wings sell for 30 cents each, and beer for $5. For students trying to hang out on the cheap, that does sound like a good deal. So I went with them. As has been thoroughly covered, yes, this is an Irish pub with Irish atmosphere, which, I personally liked. Service was slow, but friendly. The live music was nice, and helped set O'Byrne's slightly apart from other pubs. That takes us to the wings and beer. The honey garlic wings were nice, but the extra hot wings were... really not. They had that cheap, vinegary kind of hot taste to them, and I didn't like that at all. I'd avoid those if you go. The beer itself was perfectly fine. Lastly, they provided wet-wipes for wing eaters, and as someone who hates sticky hands, I really appreciated that. All in all, this is a decent place to visit for Wing's Night. read more

Where do you go and party for St. Patrick's day? Wherever you WERE partying, you were not at the right place. O'Byrnes is the place to be on March 14th. It opens up early and stays open late and truly marvels in the "holiday spirit." On all other days, this Irish bar on whyte is a good place to go for a pint and some food. Their patio is one of the best, come summer season but it sure does fill up fast, so if you see a seat - nag it! Service is usually good at O'Byrnes and food is good pub food- nothing special. If you can't make it down to O'Byrnes for St.. paddy's day, go any other day of the year to experience it. read more

O'Byrne's is a terrific little Irish pub. We stopped in for a drink on a Friday night and the place was jam-packed. People were lounging about in every direction, but the service was quick. The place was fun. We had a good time fighting back the hordes of people and the spilled drinks. What was once Whyte's best patio is still kicking, though the best part of the patio-seeing and being seen-is no more. Well, has been no more for a while now. I visited O'Byrnes this past Tuesday night for the first time in a while, I was pleasantly surprised to find an empty patio and the Guiness family on special (pints for $5.75). If the weather had been warmer, no way would the 15 or so of us had found a spot outside, but we lucked out. We asked three times before the patio heaters were turned on (twice they inisisted that they were on...) but our server was friendly and competent. Our table had poutine (yum, especially the fresh green onions), sweet potato fries and nachos. All standard pub fare, though I have to say that O'Byrnes focuses on their Irish-themed food, and why not? Local musicians were playing inside (excellent fiddling music) which was nice and low-key, and pretty authentic. Also, it was a nice change from the top 40 that is usually pumped into the crowded bar, making it impossible to visit. I know that O'Byrnes has ample space, while other venues may not, but any Edmonton pub could take a cue from O'B's in regards to the washrooms. Ladies appreciate a full length mirror and a counter that isn't muddled with water and soap to touch up at. Even though I was in post-frisbee garb and was looking like the track-panted, hoodied, ball-capped Northsider that I am, I still appreciated the lovely washroom digs. All in, I hope O'Byrnes remains a Whyte fixture! read more
