This is not a place I would think to visit but it turned out to be great. I came here to celebrate a friends birthday early in the evening on a Friday. I was surprised at how busy it was around 4:30. We had a reservation so I'm not sure how long the wait would be if that wasn't the case but I did notice that tables cleared out fast. Things started to die down a little after 6:30. Our waitress was nice but wasn't attentive to us needing water refills. I ordered the fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised. They were delicious and I would totally order them again. They were also quite filling. The fries were just okay. I'd pick a different side next time. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. The bowls looked amazing and I heard were too. I did find it a bit too loud with the music though. At times it was hard to hear the conversation. read more

This place is my favourite in Edmonton.. The beer is awesome.. i love the food , but mostly for the staff. My server Makia did a perfect job and had just the best personality & customer service. The manager Meg is super cool & does such a great job making people like this a friendly neighborhood pub. Both are very cheerful people & top notch. 10 out of 5 From DH read more

Lots of TVs if you're there to watch the game. Can get fun and loud when a big game is on. Solid food. Solid drinks. Solid service.

Must have been a game on as it was ++ loud and NOT a good date spot/any conversation as too loud. Server was friendly and checked in on us regularly. Was 30% full Sunday 11AM. Boyfriend got coffee and asked for cream and it came in a cute little saucer like it was meant for our cat! I tried the Crispy chicken sandwich -9/10 was really really good, but chicken itself was quite small. loved the bun, slaw, sauce, and breading on the chicken. Boyfriend got the Braised Beef Bacon Hash brunch option. Not enough beef, crispy potatoes is not exaggeration. potatoes were BLACK and Burnt and not just some but ALL - I found it inedible. Highly NOT recommended. Boyfriend suffered through it but really disappointed in his meal. Overall, I would come back for another chicken sandwich if opportunity arose. read more

Simply terrible food. Small portions. Overpriced. Overcooked. Great wait staff. The staff made what would have been a terrible experience much more pleasant. read more

So, the food was decent... However service was meh. Took forever for someone to come help us (and the server was "oh, you're not my table... but I see you haven't gotten drinks yet...") so points to her for taking care of someone not in her zone. The biggest issue was the volume... it was 6-8pm on a Friday night, and we couldn't hear ourselves think. My watch went off three times warning me that the volume was over 90db (30 min at that volume causes temporary hearing loss) It's an "Eatery", not a club... especially at 6-8... maybe after 9-10 if you want to crank it. read more

So I'm guessing LOCAL is like the Canadian version of a smaller BJs or Yardhouse? ... from the vibe I got (just from brunch!) and its menu. Large TVs lined up in a row, a large rectangle bar in the center, booths and tables against the walls. Definitely a happy hour/hangout chill spot. I came during brunch, so it was pretty empty. And although we sat in a booth in the corner, the service was good. My boyfriend and I ordered the breakfast sandwich, cheese pirogies, and the huevos rancheros. My cousin and his girlfriend ordered the eggs Benedict and steak & eggs. -cheese pirogies were verrryy hot, and definitely cheesy. I really liked the savory caramelized onions and the sour cream on the side. the wrapping it was in was a little hard though -huevos rancheros: this was actually my first time having it LOL. The salsa, avocado and that gooey cheese was amazing, but holy shit there were so many black beans hiding under the tortillas! I'm not a big fan of black beans but I still enjoyed it -breakfast sandwich: I basically called this a rainbow sandwich! it was gorgeous to look at. the sourdough was toasted and buttery, the FRIED EGG was so delicious and runny (honestly the best part). What I liked most is the this breakfast sando came with a little berry smoothie in a shot glass! I wasn't able to try the eggs Benedict or steak& eggs, but they're regulars, soooo im sure they know what they're ordering Really enjoyed this spot! Glad to have tried this chain while visiting Canada! read more

We got the local burger with caesar salad, steak and fries and blackened chicken. Food was overall good, however the caesar salad was meh, but everything else was tasty. The service was great to start - however after our appetizer they didn't check up on us so I wasn't able to get a refill on my drink. They accommodated our allergy request (for our young son), however we didn't realize the blackened chicken was spicy so he didn't eat it - but that's our fault. They also had a high chair that attaches to our table which was great. read more

I'm a big fan of Local Sherwood Park, and get cravings for That Chicken Sandwich more than I care to admit, so I was excited to meet in the middle with a group of friends and visit the South Ed location for a change. Even though it was a football sunday we were seated without much wait, the hostess was super sweet. We were even able to get a booth near the back. The food without fail was amazing - the sandwich was just amazing as I knew it would be. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive and didn't rush us at all even though it was a busy day. I would definitely visit this location again without hesitation. read more

Awful burgers. Two skinny patties, processed cheese. Tastes like a McDonalds burger at 3 times the price. Processed cheese on a $20 burger is so bad. At least they have happy hour and good beers and wines. The ladies will like the Apricat beer. Warehouse feel inside with brick and bright windows. Metal stools at high tables. And some booths. Staff were great. TVs everywhere. Very popular place. Wish food was better. read more

Beer is great, service is great, and the food is great. What else do you need. We had the deluxe burger and a Seasonal Lager (scona gold) and a India pale ale (lone bison). Both excellent. Recommend the deluxe burger for sure and if your sharing they split it on two plates. Awesome! We went to he local on aug 16 and was delighted to see that they didn't serve their drinks with straws! That's totally awesome! #endplasticrevolution read more

This is a good place for a late night snack! Parking lot is a little crowded, but it's not difficult to find a spot. It's really like a bar inside: loud, self-seating, and TVs everywhere playing sports channels. It's dim & rustic inside, not sure what the shuffleboard is about though. There was even a change table in the washroom, so I'm thinking it's family friendly during daytime hours. Service was consistent throughout. I'd say the menu for the healthier options are more visually appealing and the selection runs along the lines of upscale pub food. For some reason, I keep thinking the pulled pork poutine will be like the BBQ pulled pork sandwich kind, but is definitely not. It's really just fries and gravy with shredded pork roast. But with its happy hour price of $2 off, it's okay. If you like lemons with your fish tacos, ask the server for extra ones. The one that comes with the dish is more like a cut off a wedge tip than an actual wedge. I do appreciate that if you order some guacamole, they mash it right in front of you before serving. The food is affordable & enough to be full without leftovers. Overall, I'd say it's a good space for mingling with friends & I could see myself coming back to do more of the same. read more

Sigh. It pains me to do this, but I have to downgrade my review significantly. I like the food at LPE and it's the kind of place where everyone can find something on the menu they'll like. Plus, the beer selection is decent and cold. Everyone's happy right? When my 18 year old cousin came to visit us from BC for the week, I thought we could take him to Local Public Eatery for a casual south side bite and a pint before catching a movie. We stopped in on a Monday night and the place was very quiet - not unusual for a pub on a Monday night, so I wasn't put off by it. Our group of 5 strode across the entire place and found ourselves a booth (it's seat yourself style) at the opposite end of the restaurant. Then we waited. And waited and waited. There were maybe four or five other tables of customers in the whole place, and at least 2 or 3 servers. We watched as the servers hung out at the bar, talking and laughing. No one ever came over to our table in the fifteen minutes that we waited. We all got up and left to find a different place to eat. The end. read more

I was surprised to see such a low rating for this place. Our experiences have always been great here. There was once an issue with my friends food. The waitress handled the situation very professionally, she quickly apologize then offered to have a new dish made. She even took it off of our bill! We usually have brunch and a few Caesars here. I have also been here for a birthday dinner. Great food and great service with a casual atmosphere. read more

Came in Saturday at 5pm. I asked for a glass of red wine, the girl gave me wine in a very dirty glass. She didn't come back for 18 mins... Server came back finally and I told her about the wine. No apologies. I did not want another glass nor any food here because of the cleanliness that was already represented. Terrible sanitation and service. Least to say I am never coming back. read more

Awesome place. One of favorites. Great food, great service. Thanks Nadine for being a Rockstar tonight.

This place gets a bonus point for being the oasis in the desert that is the South Edmonton Common (seriously, what's with that place). I've been to the location in Kits and it definitely isn't as distinctive in its environ. The patio has a high wall that blocks out the parking lots and big box stores that extend beyond the horizon. There's also a foosball table. I don't really care for the decor nor the map motif they've got going on for the menus. The waitresses seem both attractive and competent which is a great combination. There are some interesting beer bucket combos. The Lucky Lager inclusion definitely takes me back to highschool; that said, I'd never order it. The day I went there was a pepper berry lager and an Allay Kat Full Moon on special; both were very good and refreshing. I had the veggie burger and it was great. I like it when veggie burgers don't try to taste like meat. It was nice and crunchy with almonds and cheese. The brioche bun tasted good too, but was a tad greasy. If I ever have to go back to South Edmonton Common I'll probably eat here again. read more

Can I get a resounding "Meh?" The first time my husband and I went to this establishment, we actually left without eating our food because our waitress somehow forgot us completely and served other people who came AFTER us. We actually saw our food at the pass, sitting there, getting cold. Not that we were really that pissed off as opposed to disappointed, but it was enough that we flagged down the manager who apologized and gave us a $30 gift card and asked us to try again some other time. So, last weekend after a jaunt at IKEA, we decided to give the place another try since we did have a gift card. We ordered the nachos piled high ($18) and the "Oil City" burger (forgot, about $14?) with the sweet potato fries. It was okay. Not awful, not great, but... okay. I enjoyed my nachos but for the price, was disappointed that they were light on the chicken toppings. My husband thought his burger was dry and his alliance for best burger in Edmonton is still Pub 1905. Now, I can't really fault the look and feel of the place, because it has a classy gastro-pub feel, a decent patio that had walls high enough to hide the parking lot and lack of view. I think the designers who worked on this place did a good job, but for the price and touch-and-go service, I really can't recommend going here even if you had a gift card. read more

I, like everyone else, was slightly disheartened when OPM closed.. but when I checked out Local for the first time one summer, I realized there aren't as many places like Local in Edmonton! This place is always packed! For this reason, we don't go often. However, the food is pretty good. The fish tacos are some of the best in the city and their guacamole and house made chips are spot on. We haven't tried much of the other items but we know the burgers and drunken noodles are good from other people. I took a couple stars off for the fact the place is so loud you can barely hear the person next to you and there's limited parking. read more

Stopped by the LOCAL after a movie at South Edmonton Common on a Thursday night around 9pm. It was super close by and convenient so we thought we would give it a try. We seated ourselves at the bar as indicated at the hostess table. They have this thing call the mystery wine where you can order a 6 oz glass of red or white for $4.50. They won't reveal to you what the name of the wine is so in a way I was intrigued. I ordered a glass of white and it tasted fine, my bf ordered the red and he had no complaints either. Started with ahi tuna poke with avocado, ginger and soy sauce with tortilla chips. We asked for no jalapenos as the bf can not handle spice. I was a little disappointed with the portions of the ahi tuna and found too many tortilla chips with the dish. It didn't taste like anything special, had better elsewhere. We shared the the pressed deluxe burger with smoked bacon and aged cheddar. We substituted fries for yam fries. I liked that the server asked if she could split it for us in the kitchen which made for less of a mess at the table. The burger was and the yam fries (came with truffle lemon mayonnaise and parm cheese) were very good. That totally hit the spot! All in all successful date night, especially since I don't go to pub/bar food often. Would have given it 4 stars if the portion of the ahi tuna was not so little. read more

Great huevos rancheros!! I came for lunch but asked for brunch. They said only weekends! But they have the huevos all day. It was really good. We started with the ahi poke which was ok, for the price I wouldn't get it. The tacos my friend had were amazing too. Such soft tortillas, and the sauce and cabbage was very well balanced. Cool place with lots of beers on tap. Service was a bit off but it was super busy. Very friendly she just missed a couple of things. Try it, apparently owned by earls and Joeys company. read more

Really torn between the 3 and the 4 star. I'm giving it a 3 for now... but if you like pub food this really is a great place to check out. It really is a great pub. It's a happening place, great open space, lots of tv's, and plenty of space for large groups. In fact, this would be the perfect place for a large birthday gathering. I really liked the menu. There were lots of appetizers and shareable, which is great if you're like me and prefer to order an appetizer or two instead of a meal. Menu items that stood out to me that I'd like to try in future visits... baja chicken or fish tacos ($5 each), quesadilla ($6.5), and the churros ($5). I seriously love that they have so many different small size plates, because then I can try lots! For my first visit, I went with the tortilla soup, which was delicious, but seriously it had two tiny pieces of avocado. Sorry, but that's just ridiculous. What is it with this city and being cheap on avocado?! STOP IT!!! I want my avocado! Mmmm k? Mmmm K. I also ordered the drunken chicken to share with the BF. I didn't think it was anything special... other than fact that the sauce they use tastes exactly like my own homemade ginger sauce. That was interesting. The BF ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich, which I must say looked pretty damn good, and came with a nice salad. He enjoyed it. The service was fine... you don't go to place like this expecting 5 star restaurant service. I'll be back, and I'll try something else. Maybe I'll add a star. But if they rip me off on my avocado again... read more

I visited Local Public Eatery after a movie at the Cineplex and also the day of the last hockey game at Rexall ring. So the place was packed, but we were able to find a table without delay. We started with Szechuan Edamame, covered with garlic chili sauce, toasted sesame and soy sauce, delicious. A press burger with cheddar and a portion of house salad. A tortilla soup with a little bit of pulled chicken, avocado and crispy tortillas 2 Baja Chicken Tacos without cabbage ( I don't like cabbage and the tacos tasted perfect) The service was great, the server was friendly and always checking on us. In less than a month, Local Public Eatery has went from spectacular to nightmare. Went back with friends and were disgusted with the lack of quality of food and service. On Saturday night, what is claimed as family friendly turned out to be one big hook up place for customers and staff. Wendy's fast food down the road would have served better food.
