We went to The Shack to grab some late-night ice cream, and it was such a cute experience! It's a family-owned kind of spot, and you can really feel that cozy, welcoming vibe the moment you walk in. The inside is adorable -- calligraphy, paintings, and drawings all over the walls make it feel creative and homey. The whole place just has a really nice, chill energy. The ice cream itself was fresh and flavorful -- we tried the Horchata and Ube flavors, and both were amazing! You can tell they use good, fresh ingredients. The flavors tasted real, not artificial, which I loved. The staff were super friendly, too. I don't remember the name of the girl who helped us, but she was great -- when we asked how many samples we could try, she said "as many as you want", which was honestly the sweetest thing ever. We got the kids' size, and it was the perfect portion for a late-night treat. I'd definitely recommend The Shack -- great vibes, great service, and even better ice cream! Overall Rating: 5/5 Must Try: Ube & Horchata Ice Cream Vibe: Artsy, cozy, and welcoming

This place just missed the mark for me. I liked the atmosphere and the kiosks, but the ice cream was disappointing. It tasted like Dreyer's and the flavor wasn't strong. I usually love salted caramel and cotton candy ice cream, but neither stood out here. I decided to shake things up and try the cookie sando, which was a bit of a mystery since there were no signs explaining it. It turned out to be ice cream between two Oreos, but there was very little ice cream inside. I liked the games, but they did not work because they required extra payment. The people were nice and the service was fast, but overall the ice cream just wasn't it.

Great place for ice cream. Kids always want to make the drive to come here. So happy this place opened as there aren't enough ice cream places in Marin!

The shop is pretty tiny, located next to a donut shop near the netrance of a medium sized open plan shopping center. Came in there and the worker offered us whatever samples we wanted and we immediately noticed the really interesting but unusual flavors that they had. Of the classic type flavors, we really liked the brown sugar vanilla and the breakfast cereal one. The cherry special drink and the grapfruit one also tasted quite nice. But the ones that stood out the most were the thom ka and the chaat masala ones. while the chaat masala didnt end up having that distinct tanginess you might expect, the thom ka ice cream was mind blowing. It tasted exactly like having the soup but in a cool and refreshingly creamy dessert form. My mind couldn't really process it other than the fact that it was delicious. We ended up opting to pair the thom ka and the brown sugar vanilla to have a "normal" flavor to offset the unusualness of having a thai soup ice cream. We honestly could not get enough of it - it easily was one of the best ice cream scoops we had ever had and it being a plant based ice cream was insanely impressive. Frankie & Jo's will definitely be a place we will be returning to especially as the new seasonal flavors roll out so we can see what other concoctions they might be able to try and conquer.

It's fun to watch them, like a well rehearsed choreographed dance. But the frenetic energy is not so fun. It would be helped if they just had one more person there during rush hours, to greet people, find out if your pizza is completed on the stack, rather than having to rudely jump the line and ask questions of these busy people.

A few folks outside some inside. This made ordering quick and easy, and the food was prepared quickly; a benefit for us, perhaps not for the business. The place is still attractive and clean, with plenty of tables outside and inside. I did not that, as my last visit, there is no shade really provided for the outside seating, save ONE small umbrella. Ugh - not sure what the issue is, and being it was a sunny day, we opted to sit inside as much as the patio called to us. The inside is nice, too, though, and there is easy access to the soda fountain machine and condiments. There are still self-ordering kiosks, large digital menus, and of course, you can also order through the app (even if standing inside!) or at the counter. We ordered a bit of each - side, main, and dessert! There was a portabella "'Shroom" burger (with a crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun), cheese fries, a mac 'n' cheese, chicken bites, and a Key lime shake, a special offering! Damn the calories, full taste ahead! The food was indeed prepared quickly and served hot. The Shroom burger was my favorite last time, and for taste and texture this time was also delicious and good. The cheeses inside were melty-gooey, and the mushroom crispy. It was, though, much smaller than I remember - it fit within my hand! A con, against the price, for what is a nice option for veggies or anyone wanting a change in their burger. The chicken bites were smaller than expected in size, more like nuggets, but tasty. The mac 'n' cheese was also tasty, but also a bit small for the price. The fries are always good, and in this case, you need to dig to the bottom early on to scrape some of the melted cheese that dripped down back onto the fries. Very yummy. But the best part was the Key lime shake, a flavor I just love (cheesecake is my favorite iteration of this flavor) but this milkshake satisfied me greatly. A little pricier than their everyday shakes, but how often so you find a unique flavor like this! A win! Overall, a solid 4-stars for food flavor and quality, and also for ambience and environment. Price wise, it was about $40 for two of us, so not a great bargain, but given the economy today I have the same financial shock at other places as well. Still, a nice treat and we left happy.

Anyway, we arrived around an hour before close, most places in this area close at 9pm btw. We were greeted by the host who walked in from near the kitchen area. We decided to sit outdoors since the weather was pleasant. We found a table for two near the projector showing a muted black and white film on the brick wall. The chairs had blankets over them just in case it gets chilly at night. It was very thoughtful. I decided to order their special 3 course meal including a white wine ($45!). It was like they had their own restaurant week specials like SF but I don't believe that exists in Marin. The 3 course meal included a beet salad, pasta (it was the screw shaped kind) with Bolognese and a tiramisu which was my fav of all 3. The white wine was a bit on the sweet side. My husband had the pappardelle pasta with oxtail. That was a treat! I liked his dish more than mine but all of it was so much we had to take half home! The complimentary focaccia really pushed us over the edge. I would definitely come back to try their pizzas!

She told me that she had read my review and asked what it is I would like to discuss, as if we were about to enter into negotiation, rather than simply admitting fault and reimbursing me for their mistake as any other high-end and low-end restaurant would do in this situation. The manager told me that I should have spoken up last night and have asked for the steak to be reheated. Lol! She then said that it was me who should've caught the mistake on the bill, and that I shouldn't have posted my review. She also said that I should've called the restaurant when I noticed the bill which would've be impossible because I noticed it at midnight. She put the blame on me when I did nothing wrong in this scenario. She tried to make me feel bad about posting the review and made me feel as if it was I was the one that mishandled the entire situation, rather than accepting full responsibility. Eventually, I stood up for myself during the phone call and put the blame back on the restaurant, at which point she realized that maybe she and the restaurant staff that night did do something wrong. Spoiler alert! When that revelation crossed her mind, she offered to partially reimburse me for the cheaper steak that I originally ordered. The steak that they brought out afterwards... I still had to pay for it. Everything so far is clearly being handled correctly. I said that I would like everything reimbursed from that meal and after ten minutes of talking on the phone, she offered to reimburse me for the more expensive steak and the tip from that night, which should have been done in the first place without any of this. As if the situation couldn't get any juicier, she informed me that the kitchen staff have ongoing issues with temperature control on the steaks. Since they want to be petty, I'll be petty too. I saw many servers bagging the crudities that they bring out with their avocado hummus with their bare hands. The avocado hummus station is in the middle of the entire restaurant mind you. This is a bad look for the only dish that seems to be keeping this place afloat.
